No Room in the Inn
1. No Room in the Inn
Text: Luke 2:6-7
6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were
accomplished that she should be delivered.
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped
him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger;
because there was no room for them in the inn.
Gen 42:27 And as one of them opened his sack to
give his ass provender in the inn, he espied his
money; for, behold, it was in his sack's mouth.
Exod 4:24-25 24 And it came to pass by the way in
the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill
him. 25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off
the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and
said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
Luke 10:33-35 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he
journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him,
he had compassion on him,
2. 34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds,
pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast,
and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took
out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said
unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou
spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
An Inn that has no room for Jesus is no longer a hostel
but has become hostile.
…laid him in a manger; because there was no room for
them in the inn.
John 16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea,
the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that
he doeth God service.
John 16:6 But because I have said these things unto you,
sorrow hath filled your heart.
John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye
cannot bear them now.

But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before
the LORD exceedingly.
Prov 1:10; 13:21; 23:17; Isa 13:9; Amos 9:10; Mat 9:13; 1Tim 1:15; Jas 4:8
Prov 1:10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou
not.
Prov 13:21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous
good shall be repayed.
Prov 23:17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be
thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
Isa 13:9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel
both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land
desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out
of it.
Amos 9:10 All the sinners of my people shall die by
the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor
prevent us.
4. Matt 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I
will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not
come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
1Tim 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all
acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to
you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your
hearts, ye double minded.

ocency
Gen 20:5
Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she
herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart
and innocency of my hands have I done this.
John 15:22-23; Rom 1:20; 2:1; 1Pet 2:16
John 15:22-23 22 If I had not come and spoken
unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have
no cloke for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
5. Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even his
eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without
excuse:
Rom 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man,
whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou
judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou
that judgest doest the same things.
1Pet 2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a
cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

Matt 4:6-7 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son
of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall
give his angels charge concerning thee: and in
6. their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any
time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt
not tempt the Lord thy God.
Exod 17:2 Wherefore the people did chide with
Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink.
And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me?
wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?
Ps 78:18 And they tempted God in their heart by
asking meat for their lust.
Ps 78:41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God,
and limited the Holy One of Israel.
Ps 78:56-58 56 Yet they tempted and provoked the
most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their
fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
58 For they provoked him to anger with their high
places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven
images.
7. IV. No Room for Jesus in the Inn-er prison of
self-pity
Acts 16:23-24
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they
cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them
safely:
24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into
the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
Job 35:9-10; Ps 119:55; Mark 14:25-26; 2Tim 4:2
Job 35:9-10 9 By reason of the multitude of
oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry
out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who
giveth songs in the night;
Ps 119:55 I have remembered thy name, O LORD, in
the night, and have kept thy law.
Mark 14:25-26 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink

into the mount of Olives.

Matt 22:4
Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them
which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my
oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready:
come unto the marriage.
Rev 3:20; Rev 19:7-9; Pr 15:17; Eph 5:32-33
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if
any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with
me.
Rev 19:7-9 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give
honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come,
and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed
in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the
righteousness of saints.
9. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which
are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And
he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Prov 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is,
than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
Eph 5:32-33 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak
concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let
every one of you in particular so love his wife even as
himself; and the wife see that she reverence her
husband.
Conclusion:
Prov 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that
winneth souls is wise.
“Most men are aiming and endeavouring to win
something to which they attach great value. It may be
secular wealth, or earthly honour, or sensual pleasure. But
there can be no wisdom in spending one’s life in the
endeavour to win any one of these things.
The aim of Paul was to win Christ, and that should be our
first aim too. Having won Christ for ourselves, our aim
should be to win souls for Christ.” (John Morgan)
10. Luke 5:9-10; John 4:36; 21:6-7; Jas 5:20
Luke 5:9-10 9 For he was astonished, and all that
were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they
had taken:
10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of
Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus
said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt
catch men.
John 4:36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and
gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that
soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
John 21:6-7 6 And he said unto them, Cast the net
on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They
cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it
for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto
Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard
that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him,
(for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
Jas 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the
sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from
death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
