3. Effects of Cockroaches on House hold
Stuff
• Cockroaches, also known as water bugs
• Most difficult household pests to control.
• They are found in basements, bathrooms and kitchens
where they feed upon a wide variety of foods, including
cereals, sugar-containing foods, meats, cheese, beer and
soda pop, leather, book bindings, and wallpaper paste.

• They are omnivorous ( Eat almost everything)
• They may be carried in homes in cardboard cartons,
sacks, beverage containers, furniture and pet foods.
• The presence cause serious mental suffering for some
people.
• Most roaches infesting homes like starch and will chew
on starchy items.
• They spoil food stuff, kitchenery material, usable liquids,
and water.

• Cockroach body contain allergen which causes an
allergic reaction or contaminated food and utensils.
• They give a specific smell.
• oily liquid that is produced by most species
• This oily liquid is known to stain fabrics, woodwork and
other surfaces.
• They may also act as vector of different diseases which is
very alarming and harmful.

• The sight of cockroaches can cause psychological or
emotional distress in some individuals.
• Cockroaches’ secretion affect the flavor of various foods
and can transmit disease as well
• Disease-causing organisms such as bacteria, protozoa,
and viruses have been found in cockroach bodies.

8. Effects of Cockroaches on House hold
Stuff
• Different forms of gastroenteritis diseases such as food
poisoning, dysentery, diarrhea, etc. transmitted by these
cockroaches.
• These disease-causing organisms are attached on the
legs and bodies of cockroaches, and are deposited on
food and utensils as cockroaches forage.
• Cockroach allergen responsible for the higher frequency
of asthma in poor urban areas. .
• The German cockroach will feed on books and their
bindings thereby destroying them.

• The larger roaches will also chew on paper products
damaging/destroying them in the process.
• They mostly attract to the food containing starch and
sweet, animal and vegetable products
