Mandatory Education
Education is mandatory for children in Ireland from the years of 6 to 16 or till pupils
have performed 3 years of second-level learning.
THIRD-LEVEL
EDUCATION
Third-level education is divided into the
number of divisions. The university
sector, the technology sector and the
colleges of education are mainly funded
by the State. Also, there are numerous
independent private colleges are there in
Ireland.
THREE STAGES OF EDUCATION
PRIMARY LEVEL
School begins in September, Eligibility
Children age is 6. Primary schools are
usually privately maintained by
associations/ boards of governors but they
are State-funded.
SECOND LEVEL
Second-level education is given by
different types of post-primary schools.
The second-level study consists 3-years
of a junior sequence followed by a 2-
year or 3-year senior sequence based on
whether an elective shift year is held
following the Junior Certificate test.
Students usually begin the junior cycle at
the age of 12. The Junior Certificate is
practiced later 3 years.
