Target group (class): 5th grade (10 years)
Time required: 1 or 2 lessons (45-90min), in the case of shorter lesson it is possible to divide
content into smaller units – The Universe to begin with, The Sun to continue with, planets to
follow...

Lesson structure:
Evocation (10-15 minutes):
1. Pupils become familiar with the objective of the lesson.
2. The teacher begins brainstorming by introducing a topic – Universe. Pupils express their
ideas and everything they know about this topic in the application Padlet/One Note (Office
365), using tablets/ or their own devices. They write what they know about the topic, and what
they want to learn. /K-W/
3. Use of VR / Virtual reality (Oculus) - Mision: ISS application to demonstrate the universe
from the perspective of the space station (the selected pupil examines the space; pupils
see the view through the paired board or take turns) - continuation of brainstorming.

4. Pupils create knowledge mind map based on brainstorming (Notes from Padlet to Mind
Maps, or PPT, or directly in PADLET)
Awareness (30-60 minutes):
1. Based on the pupils' answers, the teacher determines the questions that need to be
solved (knowledge that needs to be supplemented to fulfill the goal).
2. Pupils use Atlases, the Space Walk application, Sky maps, NASA, or the Internet
(Wikipedia) to search for answers, they work in groups with tablets, 2in1 devices, their
own devices. The CLIL method (English language keyword search) is used.
3. The groups present information about the Universe (general information), the Sun,
planets, the Moon ...
4. Using Office 365 resp. another platform, the information and findings obtained between
the groups are gathered and shared (One Note / Word / PPT).
5. The teacher summarizes the short presentation of the necessary knowledge (MS
PowerPoint / OpenOffice / LibreOffice / Google Office / Canva / Slides / Prezi ...),
emphasizes the interdisciplinary relationships (we have only one habitable planet ...).

Reflection (5-15 minutes):
1. Pupils add information they have learned using the application Padlet (What I have
learned).
2. The teacher shares online the results of the lesson (EDUPAGE, Office 365, bezkriedy.sk)
pupils' presentations, notes, padlet, teaching material ...
3. With the help of the feedback card pupils say whether they have enjoyed the lesson,
what would they change, if they found it difficult to understand a concept and what
concept attracts them and they want to know/learn more about (formative assessment)8
