INTRODUCTION
An overpower exhibition of infrastructure and resource constraints by creativity and
inventive approach and bringing an indispensable change to not only an individual, a
community, a country, but to the entire nation. Strings of excuses are being coiled and put
Infront, complaints to shortcomings of systems and underperforming staff is all well
known in India. Breaking the odds how an IT guy, ventured teaching to a entire new level
and what made him to explore the uncalled voices of children from a primary school to
take such an inventive step which revolutionized the teaching method of India and
highlighted an Indian teacher among 12000 applications and nominations to win ā€˜Global
Teachers Award 2020ā€™.

INDIA IN SHORTFALL OF
INVENTIVE TEACHERS
There are many issues that need urgent attention for improving the quality of teacher
education programme. One of them is the need of innovations in teacher education
programme. Innovativeness means the ability to think beyond the boundaries and create
something which is different from that which already exists. Without innovations, no
progress is possible. Teachers have to be innovative and their grooming has to start from
their training institutions. Innovations in teacher education include IT literacy, interactive
teleconferencing etc. NPE (1986) stated ā€œThe existing system of teacher education needs
to be overhauled or revamped.ā€

that, throughout the world, their efforts deserve to be recognised and celebrated. It seeks
to acknowledge the impacts of the very best teachers ā€“ not only on their students but on
the communities around them.

RESEARCH
QUESTION
This study tried to put forward the effort and creative approach of Mr. Ranjith Disale,
recipient of the award, in prompting girl education, and what made him to think of such
an inventive idea.
7 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE
STUDY
ā€¢ This study will give an insight to the shortcomings of Indian education system and
How an ordinary teacher turned towards extraordinary approaches to solve educational
problems in India.
ā€¢ Study underlines the challenges and possible solutions to be drawn in order to make
education more accessible in India, specifically for rural children.
ā€¢ This case study will certainly encourage other teachers to work their best and find
creative ideas to make education more interesting and feasible.
8 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
DATA COLLECTION
In this study, analysis of news articles, official website, and authentic publications was
done and information was extracted using secondary sources. Also, interview recordings
of Ranjith Disale to various media houses were analyzed to collect information which is
treated as primary source data.
9 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
DREAMT TO BE AN ENGINEER
TURNED TERRIFIC TEACHER
He wanted to became an IT engineer, but somehow he could not do it. Later, his father
suggested him to pursue his career as a teacher. He joined a teacher training course,
Initially hesitant, Ranjithā€™s time in teacher training college was life-changing. He saw that
teachers are the real change-makers in the world, and decided to become a primary
teacher in Zilla Parishad Primary School. Paritewadi, Maharashtra in 2009.
10 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
CHALLENGES FACED
Ranjith Disale, alike an ordinary teacher got his first appointment as assistant teacher.
The first school he taught in was in a dilapidated building, sandwiched between a cattle
shed and a storeroom. Most of the girls were from tribal communities that did not
prioritise girlsā€™ education, and the practice of teenage marriage was common.
Additionally, the curriculum was not in the studentsā€™ primary language (Kannada), which
meant that many students were unable to achieve expected learning outcomes. Unlike
ordinary teacher he was not convinced by the education delivered and received by the
students, he decided to innovate the teaching methodology and paid attention towards
girls education as the share of girls education was minimal, due to unawareness, child
marriage,
11 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
ESSENCE OF INNOVATION
Ranjith Disale, unlike any usual teacher wanted to enhance the teaching learning
experience among students. He took on the task of turning things around and ensuring the
textbooks were available in the local language for the pupils and not only translated the
class textbooks into his pupils' mother tongue but also embedded them with unique QR
codes to give students access to audio poems, video lectures, stories and assignments.
The impact of his interventions has been that there are now no reported teenage
marriages in the village and 100 per cent attendance of girls at the school.
12 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
ESSENCE OF INNOVATION
Ranjith then went on to create nothing short of a revolution in the use of QR coded
textbooks throughout India. His school was the first in the state of Maharashtra to
introduce them and after submitting a proposal and successful pilot scheme, the State
Ministry announced in 2017 that they would introduce QR coded textbooks across the
state for all grades 1-12.
Following the success of this, HRD Ministry of India asked NCERT (National Council of
Education Research and Training) to study the impact of QR Coded Textbooks and how
this can be scaled up nationally. In 2018, HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar announced that
all NCERT textbooks would have embedded QR Codes
13 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
A REFORMER BEYOND
CLASSROOM
Beyond the classroom, Ranjith helps his students apply their learning to tackle real world
problems they are facing. With his school in a drought-prone district of Maharashtra, his
school has now successfully tackled the issue of desertification, increasing green land
from 25% to 33% in the last ten years. In all, 250 hectares of land surrounding his village
was saved from desertification, earning his school the ā€˜Wipro Nature for Societyā€™ award
in 2018.
14 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
LETā€™S CROSS THE BORDERS ā€“
AN INITIATIVE
Disale is equally passionate about building peace between young people across conflict
zones and through a "Let's Cross the Borders" project, he connects young people from
India and Pakistan, Palestine and Israel, Iraq and Iran, and the US and North Korea.
Over a six-week programme, students are matched with a peace buddy from other
countries with whom they closely interact. So far, Disale has initiated an incredible
19,000 students from eight countries into this programme.
15 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
ACCOLADES AND TITLES
ā€¢ Other then global teachers award 2020, Ranjith Disale received two major laurels in
teaching innovation. In 2016, Govt. of India awarded him as ā€˜Innovative Researcher
of the Yearā€™. And, in 2018 Ranjith received ā€˜Innovator of the Year awardā€™ by
National Innovation Foundation, India.
ā€¢ Not only in India, He has been widely celebrated and honoured by the foreign
institutes. Microsoft Corporation has bestowed ā€œMIE Expert ā€ , "MIE Fellow" and "
Skype Master Teacher" award to Ranjith for creative work. He had also represented
India in Microsoft Education Exchange(E2), Toronto Canada. His work has been
recognized by The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella in one of the three stories from
India in his book ā€˜Hit Refreshā€™.

ā€˜NOBLE MANā€™ TEACHES SHARING
LESSON
ā€œā€¦Teachers are the real change-makers who are changing the lives of their students with
a mixture of chalk and challenges. They always believe in giving and sharing.
And therefore, I am very pleased to announce that I will share 50% of the prize money
equally among my fellow Top 10 finalists to support their incredible work. I believe,
together, we can change this world because sharing is growing.ā€
-RANJITH DISALE
when asked what made him to share the prize money
17 CASE STUDY April 1, 2021
CONCLUSION
Despite all the hurdles and being in an ordinary profession as a teacher he displayed
exemplary zeal and inventive approach to figure out not only education but quality
education for every child. addressing the most sensitive issue of girl education in India
Ranjith empowered girl education from 2% attendance to 100%. his innovative approach
of inducing QR codes has been widely recognized and included not only by state govt.
but NCERT. His noble gesture to share 50% of the prize money among fellow finalist
shows his unique selfless character and respect towards the profession.
India is in urgent need of dedicated plus creative teacher to roadmap Indian education
system and to impart quality education for all.
