Women's bridal costume
involved:
 A velvet jacket (with a
pocket embroidered with
lace).
 A satin skirt (with pleats)
long up to the ankle.
 Chains with golden coins
(according to the bride's
social and financial status)
 On the head they used to
wear a white scarf.
Men's costume involved:
 Breeches made of canvas
(vraka)
 A white shirt and a velvet
vest
 A velvet hat
 Shoes - boots (stivani)
 In the waist they wore a
fabric colored girdle
 Their legs were covered up
to the knee with a sock
 Festive costume from a
mountainous village of
Rhodes.
 It consists of a white
woven shirt with silk
embroidery in the neck,
the sleeves and the hem.
 On top they used to wear a
sleeveless dress made of
black cotton fabric
embellished with colorful but
very fine silvers and a red
knitted belt with fringes
wrapped around the girth
twice.
 Part of the costume are also
the tall leather boots.
 On the head we have a yellow
floral scarf with coins hanging
on the front.
This is also a piece of
jewellery they used to
complement the costume
with.
 Festive costume
 It consists of a white cotton
shirt with narrow long
sleeves and silk embroidery
that project beneath the
raised dress (gown -
kavadi).
 This is striped, with the
sleeves inside decorated
with silk fabric. In the waist
we have a silk waistband.
 The head and the
shoulders are covered by
a square cotton scarf
(tsemperi) which has four
eagles in its corners.
 Festive costume that
shows the developed
textile and embroidery
art in the Dodecanese.
 It consists of a white
woven cloth, the white
shirt embroidered in the
neck, the sleeves and the
hem. Above this shirt
they wore the “kavadi” as
we call the dress,
embroidered in its
openings.
 Above the “kavadi” we
have a silk apron.
 They also used to wear
two-colored high
embroidered leather
boots. A black scarf
(tsemperi) and a
colorful triangular scarf
are tied on the head.
 The costume is
complemented by
gold jewellery.
