Chapter 11 Apush Outline
Raflores, Lhaird
Ch.1: With the Treaty of Paris, the British set up military posts running from the Northern end of Lake Champlain, to Niagara, Detroit, and
Michigan Peninsula. The British took the posts because the US failed to live up the treaty terms. In 1784, the Spain closed the lower Mississippi
River to the American commerce, and then orders a tariff on US goods. The U.S. made negotiation for commercial treaties and did trade directly
with Europe. The Britain excluded the U.S from the imperial trade and received a large quantity of cheap goods. The U.S in the time of depression
and the balance of trade made some states print more money between 1785 and 1786. Other states also tried imposing taxes and restricting new issues
of money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Macon's Bill No. 2 became law this removes all restrictions on commerce with France and Britain. All trade with Britain returned to pre embargo
levels and British fleet limit trades with France. General William Henry Harrison tried solving the Indian problem by pushing the Indians farther west
made the Indian attack them and led by Chief Tecumseh. In November 7, 1811, The Battle of Tippecanoe was the attack of Tenskwatawa at Harrison's
camp without Tecumseh permission. Madison attack onCanada was a way to force British to respect neutral rights. On June 18, 1812, Madison
declared was on Britain. The U.S used few merchant marines as privateers attacking British commerce. They captured more than 1,300 British vessels
and sent its seven modern frigates to confront British. The USS Constitution defeated the HMS Guerrier and in October the USS United States forced
the surrender of HMS Macedonian also the USS Constitution destroyed HMS Java. In the Invasion of Canada in 1812, the US military leadership
was poor and attack against Canada failed. Gen. William Hull retreated and surrendered Fort Detroit in July 1812. In September 1813, the US
destroyed British vessels on Lake Erie led by Captain Oliver Hazard Perry. In the Battle of Thames William Henry Harrison killed

Summary Of Dr. John Walton's Compassionate Care
Dr. John Walton, in writing this work, is attempting to bring to the forefront the reality that "catharsis" plays a vital role in patient recovery.
According to Dr. Walton, Christian counseling has come to depend more upon its theological roots and less upon psychology. The single most
important ability of a Christian counselor should be that of being a good listener. Often the counselee will tell the SCP what the problem is and
sometimes even the solution. Dr. Walton agrees with Saint Francis de Sales statement, "Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with
yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them. Every day begins the task anew." The
author's intent for this book is to make available a reliable source of information for caregivers of the seriously ill. Dr. Walton discussed the physical
and emotional needs of patients and caregivers. He made available information that will be valuable to, what he terms Spiritual Care Providers, whether
highly trained professionals or Christian laypersons.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Greatest Mistake In My Life
Never did I think a horrible mistake would positively impact my life this much. During my short 17 years of life, I have overcome many obstacles
that have now shaped me to who I am today. One of the first obstacles life ever threw my way was the changing of schools multiple times. I
transferred schools three times in my life, which made keeping friends rather difficult. I first transferred to a new school when I was going into the
5th grade. I found this challenging because I was at my former school from 18 months old till 10, so it was all I knew. I was scared to acquire new
friends, which now I find was the silliest idea to be afraid of. Once I found my niche at this new school, I made a huge mistake in life that altered my
path forever.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the end of November till the 21 of December my Grandpa was put into Hospice, or a at home nursing home to prepare your loved one for death.
At this time I was trying to balance my studies as well as supporting my family morally and emotionally due to the tough times we were going
through. During the week of exams, my father was rarely home because of his father nearing death. This led me and my mom to provide each
other with dinner and help each other. Knowing about the struggles we were having, my two uncles which were my moms brothers came over to
have dinner and help up set up our Christmas tree. It was December 20th when they came over which was the day before my grandpa passed. My
mom mistook me for my uncle and said my grandpa was going to die that night or the next morning. I didn't realize she said this and didn't know
they were hiding this from me. I came home from my exams the next day to see my father balling due to his death. Because of the mourning
process I missed one day of exams and lost complete focus in school for a short time. After I came to the facts that he was dead I started to work harder
than I have ever worked before. This led to me getting the best grades I had ever gotten in my high school career and they are still getting better. While
getting over death is never fully obtainable, you have to learn to be able to live with the thoughts that run through your head daily about your deceased
love one. I

Graduation Shot-Personal Narrative
"8B, please come up when your name is called." We were lined up in alphabetical order by the brick wall. Our silky blue robes brushed the floor as
we fidgeted nervously. A wooden stage was set up in the front of the gym since our school didn't have an auditorium. Blue and gold banners with the
distinct St. Francis de Sales cross imprinted were draped over an arc–like frame for the backdrop. An aisle ran down the middle of the rows of foldable
chairs, now occupied with our parents, relatives, friends, and teachers. They sat on the edges of their seats with their phones raised, already prepared to
capture the perfect graduation shot. Mr. Johnson, my U.S. history teacher, was standing rigidly in the center of the stage along with our church pastor
and our principal. The certificates were clutched tightly in his hands. During the ceremony rehearsal, we were instructed to shake hands... Show more

Each step up the stairs increased my apprehension. My thoughts were now jumbled. All I could think about was the moment I was about to
encounter, the moment that I had been waiting so long to experience yet never wanted to arrive. I hurried across the stage. I had never liked being
the center of attention, but all the same, a flame of pride had been ignited in me. My mother would be somewhere up front, trying every way she
could to achieve the perfect angle for the perfect picture. Mr. Johnson handed me my certificate, which I grasped in my hands, clammy from the
agitation I felt since an hour prior. The pastor and principal were smiling encouragingly. I shook their hands, then turned so that I was facing the
audience. To the people watching this scene unfold, it would have seemed like I was uncomfortable. However, the smile plastered across my face
was genuine. I walked quickly off the stage. Now that more than a hundred pairs of eyes weren't on me, I was elated. I couldn't contain my pride. I
was also thrilled, for this new chapter in my life was only just

Iron-Sulfur World Hypothesis: The Origins Of Life
There are many ways that Researchers across the world have come up with for the reason for life today. These following examples are some of the
most popular today.
Primordial soup hypothesis: Life began about three and a half billion years ago when amino acids lead to the beginning of life in a body of water.
Alexander Oparin in 1924. The chemicals were like "soup" and mixed together to make proteins. There was an experiment that showed that organic
molecules could be formed from non–organic atoms. Called the Miller–Urey experiment, that proved that it was possible.
Iron–Sulfur world Hypothesis: Gunter Wachtershauser introduced a theory in 1988 about how the first organism was created by biomolecules made by
a high pressure lava flow. A similar event has happened and can happen in the right environment.

Only after evolution did DNA take over. Proposed by Sir Francis Crick, he determined that RNA could act as an enzyme and a gene to masterfully
create the basis for all life today.
Community Clay Hypothesis: This theory about the origin of life comes from clay creating a perfect environment for the synthesis of biomolecules.
Clay hydrogels are what supported the creation of complex biomolecules. Dan Luo presented a way for inexpensive hydrogels to be used to produce
proteins. Then he realized he might have discovered more than just a way to synthesize protein, but how life was synthesized.
Panspermia Hypothesis: Sales Gyon De Montlivant was a major contributing factor to the development of this hypothesis. He proposed that life came
from the moon. While he was proven wrong, he jumpstarted a theory based on live starting from space materials or other planetary materials. H.E.
Richter also proposed that life came from comets and asteroids so he contributed in the same sense. Now the theory means that life "seeds" came from
another planet and moved to

Houma History
Prior to 1870, Jean Pierre was involved with the Houma Academy and later the Sisters of the Marianites of the Holy Cross, to establish the
convenient school that later became St. Francis de Sales Elementary School. In 1870, Jean Pierre sent his son, François "Frank" Camille to
Louisiana State University, formerly Louisiana State Seminary. The school, relocated from near Alexandria, Louisiana after a fire, to Baton Rouge
on the grounds of the Deaf and Dumb Asylum. At 13 years old, Frank Viguerie became a member of the Preparatory Class of cadets. Also in 1870,
Jean Pierre dug a canal to facilitate the transportation of lumber, working with the St. Louis Cypress Company to harvest the many acres of cypress
trees owned by the Vigueries. In Houma, the Viguerie building and others in the block witnessed one of the most dramatic incidents in Houma history.
During the tense days of the carpet–bag regime in the 1870's when Louisiana was under federal occupation, grim–faced men, armed with guns, stood on
the balconies and upstairs windows of the two–story buildings in the block to keep off a hostile mob of several hundred. They marched into Houma
on foot armed with pitchforks, rakes, hoes, and any farm implement that could serve as a weapon. Striking workers had not committed any violent
acts, but their standoff with obstinate planters was heading toward a violent climax on January 14, 1871. For two days in a row, Henry C.

Presbyterian Denomination Of Christianity
Presbyterian Denomination of Christianity
The Presbyterian Church is a branch of Reformed Protestantism established by John Knox. This variant of Christianity derives its name from
Presbyterian form of ecclesiastical polity. The church is governed by representatives of elders or ministers. It also primarily follows Calvinism since
Knox was in Geneva along with Calvin and took his teachings back to Scotland where Presbyterian form of church started. Protestant Reformation was
due to several reasons including distrust in papacy, Western Schism, corruption of priests and bishops, and Renaissance humanism.
Western Schism was the division in Roman Catholic Church from 1378 to 1417.Several menfrom Avignon and Rome, later Pisa as well, claimed to be...

In England, Henry VIII was desiring to annul his marriage with Catherine of Aragorn and marry Catherine Parr. However, the pope at the time did
not approve of this. Because of this, he passed Act of Supremacy in 1534 and made the king the head of Church of England. This did not affect
Scotland because it was about 70 years before the two kingdoms were united. In Scotland, John Knox started as a Catholic priest. Historians are not
very clear about the earlier life of John Knox but in 1546, he turned away from Catholic and embraced reformation probably provoked by Wishart's
death. George Wishart was a reformist who fled to Scotland in 1538. Knox became one of the closest associates of Wishart and deeply rooted in
Protestantism. In 1546, reformists forcefully took a garrison to take refuge. Scotland called for France for help and Knox was captured as a onboard
slave for a French galley for nearly two years. Knox was released in 1549 and returned to England to take refuge. He was appointed one of royal
chaplain for Edward VI. His position was changed due to the reign of Mary I, so called Bloody Mary. She restored Catholicism to England from
1553 onwards. John Knox fled to Geneva in 1554 and met Calvin. He learned more of reformed theology and Presbyterian polity. There he wrote a
series of tracts on political disobedience to idolatrous rulers, misogynist view of women's rights to rule, and right

Examples Of Developing Patience
How to Develop Patience (Happiness Volume 1)
Patience is a virtue. But unfortunately most people don't have that. They lose their coolness when they face uncertainties, when situation doesn't flow
into their way, or when people don't listen to them.
However, one truth you must need to know, Patience full persons are not different nor even they have any secret. They wholeheartedly follow some
rules; those rules don't allow them to break their patience.
Here in this article I will share those rules to you.

"Patience is power.
Patience is not an absence of action" ― Fulton J. Sheen
The hardest truth about patience is to keep silent when you want to speak out the most. Silence heals the heat moment. When you want to speak the

New Generation Of Ships For The Merchant Marine
Despite extensive renovations and unsympathetic additions to her superstructure, The Emerald, as she was known for her final years of service, was in
fact a significant ship in maritime history. She was one of the last American–built passenger ships and steamships, able to survive years of obscurity and
the bankruptcy of two owners to have a long career.
Starting her life as Santa Rosa, her story began as part of the United States Government's post–World War II initiatives to encourage development of a
new generation of ships for the merchant marine. A beneficiary of these efforts, in 1954 Grace Line entered into a $286 million agreement for one of
the largest ship replacement programs in American history.
Grace Line was a storied firm, tracing its roots back to William Russell Grace, who was born in 1832 in County Cork, Ireland. He established a trading
business between Peru, Europe and the United States, operating magnificent clipper ships before transitioning from sail to steam. By the 1950s, Grace
Line's fleet consisted of twenty–three passenger and cargo vessels operating on three Latin American trade routes, including two 1932–built 10,000
gross ton sister ships, Santa Rosa and Santa Paula, that offered fortnightly service from New York with stops in the Caribbean en route to Columbia
and Venezuela.
Grace's new passenger ships would be designed by America's preeminent naval architect, William Francis Gibbs. His plans called for two, very solid

The Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales
From St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City to the Cathedral of Notre–Dame in France, architects have designed some of the most beautiful Churches in
the world. Expressing every little detail and nuance, they have relentlessly taken the time to develop these remarkable centers of worship. However,
tourists of these Churches seem to fail to go "behind the scenes" and appreciate all the decision making and planning used to create these magnificent
wonders. Thus, we the architects have put together this detailed synopsis to allow worshipers to appreciate every aspect and feature of The Cathedral

Baptism will make them one of the men that Catholicism has caught, or rather, has taught. The confessionals, also known as reconciliation rooms,
are areas where one can perform the Sacrament of Penance, also known as confession. These are located in the back of the Cathedral so that the
confessor may confess their sins in a secluded room where they feel private and comfortable. A cry room is located in the back of the Cathedral. It
is for families that have newly born babies. If the parents were to bring their babies to Cathedral they would most likely cry during the Mass, and it
will interrupt the Mass. Therefore, the cry room is for families who still want to go to church but do not want to interrupt the Holy mass. The cry
room has speakers in it that are connected to the priest's microphone so that those inside the room will be able to follow and hear the Mass.
The "Adoration Chapel" is a term that is broadly used to designate the practically uninterrupted adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The Adoration
Chapel contains the Eucharist, which is in a special holder called the monstrance. Parishioners of the Cathedral may come to pray and worship Jesus
continually throughout the day and at night. As mentioned earlier, the Adoration Chapel is one of the annexes in the Cathedral. (Becchio, Bruno, and
Schade 25) The Eucharist is the prime celebration that brings Catholics together. Thus, it is vital that they feel like a part

Who Is Edward De Vere And The Life Of William Shakespeare
Who is Edward de Vere?
Family
To understand whether or not Edward de Vere was William Shakespeare, I must first describe the life of Edward de Vere and the life of William
Shakespeare. Edward de Vere was the 17th Earl of Oxford and can sometimes be known as Oxford. It is know that he was born April 12, 1550 at
Castle Hedingham (the family's ancestral) and died June 24, 1660. John de Vere his father was Lord Great Chamberlain died in 1562. His mother
was Margaret Golding. After John de Vere's death Margaret married Charles Tyrell and seem to have passed out of Oxford's life for unknown
reasons. John de Vere and Margaret Golding also had a girl named Mary who went to live with her mom and step dad. With both of his parents out of

Thomas Smith who was England's most respected Greek scholar and the former Cambridge tutor of William Cecil. Smith was a scholar of widely
varied interests, which was reflected in his 400–volume library. His second tutor was Laurence Nowell who was an accomplished cartographer,
premier scholar of Anglo–Saxon literature but also obtains the only copy of Beowulf [The De Vere Society]. Another important educational
influence of De Vere's early studies was his maternal uncle Arthur Golding, an officer in the Court of Wards under Cecil, Arthur Golding is
credited to translate Ovid's Metamorphoses. In 1558, Oxford attended Cambridge and was awarded an honorary MA by Cambridge on a royal progress

Education Is A Main Part Of An Individual 's Youth
In most countries education is a main part of an individual 's youth. From an early age education helps a person grow academically, socially,
physically, and emotionally. I was fortunate enough to be born in the United States and grow up in New Jersey my entire life. I believe because I
was fortunate enough to live in one area my whole life my parents created a stable life and environment for me to grow off of and continue to
succeed from a very young age. I first began school at the age of three at a private preschool program at St. Francis de Sales in Barrington, which
was very close to my house at the time. Both of my parents come from a Catholic background, so they knew they wanted the same for their children.
My parents decided to send me to this particular private Catholic school because it was close to my home, we knew people in the community, and my
father also attended this school from sixth to eight grade. I attended St. Francis from the age of three till I was fourteen in eight grade. When it was
time to choose a High School I was torn between two. I toured several different schools with my parents and went on class trips to the schools. When
it came down to deciding it was between attending the local public school Haddon Heights or another private school. My other choice was a school
that many of my extended family members attended which is Paul VI High School. Since I had such a structured childhood in and out of school, I

St Francis De Sale Research Paper
My saint is Saint Francis de Sales. I chose Francis because he is the patron saint of the deaf. My mom is half deaf. He even created a sign language so
a deaf man could hear about God. Another reason why I chose St. Francis is because my brother's name is Francis. I enjoy reading books, and Francis
was the patron of Catholic writers.
I can live like my saint by always choosing God. De Sales's parents wanted him to become involved in politics. He chose to trust God. I can also live
like my saint by guiding myself and others in the direction of God.
St. Francis de Sales was born in 1567. He was born on August 21st, in the King
dom of Savoy. Francis was in a high–born family. Francis wanted to perform for God, even at a young age. His family wanted him to become
involved in the government. He attended the University of Paris in 1580. He acquired his doctorate in law, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francis took his place as Bishop of Geneva. While saying a sermon, Francis met a widow named Jane de Chantal. Francis guided Jane, like the Holy
Spirit guided the apostles. Francis made The Order of Visitation along with Jane, in 1610.
De Sales suffered because of his habit of working hard. He believed his work made him spiritually stronger. Francis leaded people to the direction of
God. He also believed all Christians were to live holy. De Sales was the blueprint to the Second Vatican Council. They reteachJesus' scriptures.
The lay people received spiritual guidance from Francis. He made a book about guiding the lay. The book was called the "Introduction to the Devout
Life." In Francis' opinion, the worst sin is to categorize someone. On December 28, 1622, Francis de Sales died from illness.
On April 19, 1665, Francis was officially declared a saint by Pope Alexander VII. He became the patron saint of catholic writers because of the books
he wrote. He is also the patron saint of the deaf. January 14 is St. Francis de Sale's feast

Reflection Paper
I fall into venial sins more than I can care to mention. With regard to spiritual exercise, they weary me, as he puts it. Church feels like a chore, and
for a while, I never went to confession. I went to confession for the first time in about 6 years while at the school and I went again when I started to
really fall apart in my faith. I am not a confession regular but I try to go when I can feel sin affect me. De Sales continues a bit more with this question,
asking why my heart is not inclined to these spiritual exercises. I would not say that I find any of them repugnant, rather I am not drawn to them. It
just feels like I am forced to sometimes as if it is mandatory. There is no coming to Christ moments. With regard toJesus and Mary, I think that they are
amazing but am I particularly drawn to them. Not as strong as I would like to be. As I learn about my faith, I try to be more discerning about my own
thoughts because they can take a turn that concerns me. I try to be diligent and conscious of how I think in order to tailor them to the good. My
thoughts on God and my own actions for His sake. I love being an artist and I am constantly afraid of losing it, and in my worries, I forget to offer it up
as a talent God gave me. The fear stems from an incorrect notion that he will take it away. I put art above all other things and I will do anything for it.

Essay about Arkansas: A Different State
Arkansas: A Different State
For many people the very mention of the word "Arkansas" conjures up images that are unflattering and certainly not very complimentary. To suggest
that Arkansas is "a different state" is to guarantee almost immediate agreement from any given audience, but such agreement is usually about the
negative aspects of the state instead of the ones making for actual difference.
Those negative aspects extend back to the early days of the territory. When Cephas Washburn was on his way to Arkansas in 1819 to serve as a
missionary to the Cherokees, he stopped at the present site of Vicksburg, Mississippi, to obtain specific directions to the territory, only to be told that
"the way to get there was wnknown."1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Little Rock banker, Virgil C. Pettie, was head of the Arkansas Advancement Association, a group that had been trying to put together at least two
hundred reasons to justify the nickname of Arkansas as the Wonder State. In words just as cutting as those of Mencken, Pettie described theBaltimore
journalist as "sufficiently obnoxious to a majority of the American people to warrant deportation."7
Finally, the reader should remember the famous observation about Arkansas contributed by Harry S. Ashmore, the former executive editor of the
Arkansas Gazette: "In the statistical accounting from income to education, Arkansas ranked near the bottom of the list of states; at the Chamber of
Commerce the census reports provided only an occasion to thank God for Mississippi."8
Comments such as those made by Ashmore and others in the preceding paragraphs could be expanded upon almost without limit; many travelers wrote
about their experiences in Arkansas, and all too frequently those comments did not convey a favorable tone. Arkansas, it seemed, was "a different
state" primarily because of so many bad things associated with it.
A closer examination of the history of this state does reveal Arkansas as "different," but not at all for the reasons noted above.

When The Mayans Came To America
Ten million years ago North America began to take form from the Canadian Shield. Then, eight million years later the Great Ice Age formed the
Bering Land Bridge, which allowed nomadic people to cross from Eurasia to North America. Once the Ice Age ended the sea levels rose again, and the
Americas were isolated. However, that did not stop the Americas from growing. Before the Europeans came to America, there were possibly fifty–four
million people inhabiting the Americas. The Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas were sophisticated civilizations spread across the Americas in Mexico,
Central America, and Peru. The Mayans developed a crop called maize, or corn, around five thousand B.C. The people no longer had to follow their

and starvation because they were an unorganized group of men. John Smith took over in 1608 and forced the settlers back in line. By 1609 only
sixty men survived the "starving winter" out of four hundred. Finally, in 1610 Lord De La Warr came to Jamestown with a military and supplies. By

Chinese Influence On The United States
Chinese Influence in America
Dustin Merritt
Webster University
Abstract
The influence China is having on the United States is extraordinary. As America continues to drastically import and purchase from China, China is
purchasing and investing in valuable American assets. Some of these assets include energy, entertainment, food, aviation, minerals, land and other
businesses. Although we operate in a global economy, the positive short–term gains by American companies selling to foreign investors may lead to
negative long–term consequences. Countries such as China are literally buying tangible assets on American soil. This trend could affect commercial
prices, resources, supply and demand. When a foreign company or individual owns rights to assets in the Unites States, American citizens could be
subject to their conditions. Americans could be at the mercy of market conditions set forth by an entity to whom we are directly competing with on a
global scale. For better or worse, China has great influence on inflation, monetary policy and acquisition within our own borders.
Chinese Procurement of American Resources
Global market conditions have presented opportunities for investors to purchase assets for less. United States (U.S.) real estate prices are depressed and
many firms in the West are starved for cash. The Chinese see this as a prime opportunity to rummage through the bargain bins and to gain technological
know–how and international

The ongoing plunge in bank capital is already forcing banks to significantly cut back on outstanding loans, and businesses' plans for major investment
projects are being scaled back. These capital losses are resulting in financial institutions going bankrupt or merging with stronger banks. "Financial
services companies have cut more than one–hundred thousand jobs this year and deeper layoffs may come" (Berenson, 2008). Even while cutting back
on long–term loans seems to be unbearable, short–term loans pose a greater threat to the survival of the financial system. The fourth and final threat
facing our economy is the necessity of short–term loans. In an effort to reestablish tangible capital, banks are beginning to cut back on short–term
loans. "If the short–term commercial paper and money markets were to break down, the economy could go into a severe collapse because solvent and
profitable businesses would be unable to attract working capital" (Sachs, 2008). This kind of collapse in financial liquidity is the basic reason why the
United States economy fell by around twenty–five percent during the Great Depression (Sachs, 2008). Already, some of the biggest names on Wall
Street have disappeared into thin air. Some attempts have been made to bring liquidity back to financial institutions. In an effort to avoid an

East African Americans Before Colonial Kenya
Before the colonial settlers in Kenya, the Arabs and the Asians had already settled in the coastal region with a history of trade and growing
intermarriage between the Bantu and Arab giving the rise to Swahili culture (J Mwaruvie, ‎2011). The Bantu were among the first indigenous
people in Kenya believed to have originated in central Africa.
The management of land and other resources in the interior depended on the occupation of the people occupying these areas. According to Wamicha
et.al, the Agrarian community depended on tilling the land for crop production and the pastoralist on the other hand believed that all livestock was
given to them by God (Wamicha, 2000).

The acquisition of the land was faced with resistant from Maasai who did not want to relinquish their land. According to (Muriel, 2000), due land

Paul Vi High School 's Brief History
Paul VI High School 's Brief History Paul VI Catholic High School was founded in 1983 in Fairfax, Va. Located in the center of Fairfax, the school
is part of the Diocese of Arlington, and until John Paul the Great opened in 2008 Paul VI was the newest school in the diocese for 25 years.
Originally founded by the Oblates of St. Frances, the school has since passed on to be run by lay persons. It has grown from an original class of 350
students, to an enrollment that averages well over 1000. The mission of Paul VI has always been to give the best possible intellectual and spiritual
education possible to the youth, and through the years and changes Paul VI has fulfilled this mission to its students. Paul VI was founded in 1983 and
originally run by the Oblates of St. Frances DeSales. The building was bought from George Mason University, and originally it had been the campus
for Fairfax High School. The decision to have the Oblates run the school was made by the then Bishop of the Arlington Diocese, Bishop Thomas
Welsh (Flach, 1998). The original principal of Paul VI was Father Don Heet. He and other Oblates oversaw managing and teaching at Paul VI, and
the rest of the faculty did not have religious vocations. The final member of the Oblates that served as Principal at Paul VI was Father John Lyle. In
Spring, 1998 it was announced that Paul VI would no longer be run by the Oblates of St. Frances DeSales. Father Lyle and other Oblates remained at

Coffee And Poverty
First of all, people in local communities suffer from poverty because of imbalanced trade and payment to the commodity that they grow. Their lives
depend a great deal on so–called global commodities such as coffee, cacao, and tea, which can be available to citizens in developed countries at a low
price. Therefore the demand of these commodities has increased in the last few decades. According to Ambinakudige (2009),coffee that is one of the
most traded commodities in the world is the main means of small farmers' lives in developing countries. He examined how people in developing
worlds are influenced by volatile global markets, especially focused on small farmers in the Kodagu district of India. In 1998, the amount of coffee
export reached to US$469 million. However, after the International Coffee Agreement collapsed, known as the coffee crisis, which deregulated the
international coffee supply, the labour force in coffee sector decreased in India, and 150,000 jobs were lost between 2000 and 2002 (Oxfam, cited in
Ambinakudige 2009). People cannot manage their coffee plants and yield, earn enough money to return a loan on time, and get the loan the following
year, which results in less investment in coffee. That cycle makes their lives worse and makes people stay in the cycle of poverty (Ambinakudige 2009
p.562).
Here is an another example of livelihoods of coffee farmers. The film 'Black Gold' (Francis & Francis 2006) depicted the unequal coffee trade in

China And American Trade Relationship Essay
China and American Trade Relationship
On February 22, 1784 an American vessel named the Empress of China set sail from New York to Canton, a province in China that is now referred to
as Guangzhou, in order to establish a trade relationship between the United States and China (The Chinese Magnet). Samuel Shaw, the officer of the
Empress of China, was responsible for overseeing the cargo and the sale of the goods that traveled on the merchant ship. Shaw was appointed as the
unofficial representative of the vessel by the United States congress, but did not gain any political recognition from the United States, nor did he have
the opportunity to be in contact with the Chinese officials. The Empress of China was the first American ship to set sail from the United States to
China and arrived in the region of Canton on August 28, 1784 after an eighteen–thousand–mile long expedition (The Empress of China).
From the 1760s on, all trading with Western nations had been conducted in Canton through a group of Chinese merchants with official trading licenses.
Some American colonies had traded with China before the 1760s, but the journey that the Empress of China embarked on had marked the official
admittance of the United States into a mutually beneficial trading partnership with China (United States Relations With China). Little did China and
the United States know going forward in their trading relations, that centuries later their trading relationship would be known as the most

because of richness in its content for those who which to live a good Christian life and are not religious. This is precisely the audience that St.
Francis de Sales wrote this book for. He wrote it so that the laity could live a devout or holy life without having to live in a monastery or convent. The

St. Francis walks the reader through the steps of purging mortal sin out of her life and making a confession. He adds that this is a duty but that
God does not give us duties that are impossible so we can rest assured that this duty is attainable. He then tells the reader that the way to rid herself
of her attachments to mortal sin is by becoming aware of the attachments to the sin and confess them with a contrite heart. As the end of this
section comes to a close, he provides daily meditations and spiritual exercises to help on the journey. In part two, he stresses the two principal
means of deepening this union with God. These two principal means are the sacraments in which God comes to us and prayer in which we go to
God. In short part two is an instruction manual on how to pray, worship, and receive the sacraments. For part three St. Francis offers some advice
on friendships and elaborates on the virtues that are necessary for one progression in the spiritual life. Part four of the book deals with the
temptations that arise when we choose to live a holy life. St. Francis counsels on how to avoid these temptations and to continue forward. In the last
part, he advises Philothea to take a step back and refresh to regain strength so that she may press forward and advance further in the devout life. It is in

St. Francis De Sale Research Paper
A person in history which I admire greatly is St. Francis de Sales. The reason I admire him and love to think of him is because of his disposition
towards all such that the Church has declared him, "All things to all men and women." At the same time he was generous and kind–hearted to all, he
was also a great leader who nevertheless submitted his leadership decisions in all things to the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.
The way St. Francis treated his neighbors was always with compassion and tenderness. He was known far and wide for his gentleness. Even so, he
was always firm in making sure that God was served correctly. He is a good role model in this for me because it should always be my aim to think of
others before myself and treat them as I would want to be treated. Treating others with respect is a mark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francis de Sales by looking at how he balanced both his work and prayer life. Often I begin the day planning to pause at certain times throughout the
day and say a quick prayer, and often I find upon examination at the end of the day that I have scarcely even though of God. St. Francis de Sales was
able to accomplish very much for the temporal and spiritual well–being of the people in his pastoral care, and yet he had a deep prayer life with
meditation and reflection each morning and evening, and several other prayers throughout the day. I can best serve my neighbors by serving God first
as is proven by the life of my favorite saint, St. Francis de Sales.
The lessons of being kind to my acquaintances, leading with a mission, and serving through doing God's Will are important lessons which one can
learn from this saint. By reflecting on what my favorite saint would've done in difficult situations in which I may find myself, I will prepare myself
for whatever leading or living hardship I may face. May God be forever blessed and praised for having given to the earth such a good example of

The Death Of A Railway Section Man Essay
When William married 17 year old Orrville native Margaret on October 15, 1917, he was like his dad a railway section man in Falding. Indeed, 3 out
of the 5 boys Milo and Eliza had would at some time work for CNR. Clearly dad was useful in getting employment for his sons. After marriage the
couple resided in Gordon Bay on Lake Joseph. There they fell so ill of the Spanish Flu that sister Ethel had to temporarily take up residence with them
in Mid–June of 1919 to see them through. As William gained experience he moved down the line to Washago as a RR foreman. The son now lived in
the first place his father worked in Ontario back in 1881.
Tragedy befell the childless couple when they went on a 19th June 1927 trip, Margaret "fell from [an] auto" fatally injuring her brain. A
haemorrhage killed her 5 days later after Toronto General tried in vain to save her. Her bereaved parents, who had moved to Richmond Hill from
Orrville to deal directly with the sad details. As for William, less than a year later he married a woman Alice Maria Davy from Beaverton a town
just south of Washago and where William 's sister Edith had been living for 12 years as Mrs. Morrison. The marriage occurred on May 5, 1928 in
Beaverton and they continued to live in Washago through WWII. William dabbled on the side, for a time, in selling dry goods. By that time William
was promoted to road master and soon after the war the couple moved to Gravenhurst for the rest of their lives. They had 2 girls.

How Did Pope Leo X Influence The Medici Family?
Pope Leo X was born into the Medici family on December 11, 1475 in the Republic of Florence and given the name Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici

father's cousin, Pope Innocent VIII. The influence of the Medici family would greatly increase with Giovanni. His love of learning and of art grew

Argumentative Essay On Bullfighting In Spain
Bullfighting has existed for thousands of years and it has been popular in Spain for nearly a millennium. Its cultural, economic and social impact to the
Spanish culture is undeniable, but it is a theme that has encountered a very heated debate over the past years. Anti–taurine claim that bullfighting is
indecent, unnecessary and barbaric, but their arguments are often unsubstantiated. The aggressive and bloody nature of this spectacle has always
created extreme positioning among people on whether being in favor or not.
I saw my first ever corrida in the ВґВґValenciaВґs Plaza de TorosВґВґ back in 2008 and was immediately smitten. The crowd, the blood and the
spectacle that bullfighting proposes does not leave anybody indifferent and I wasnВґt the exception. I didnВґt particularly like it because it is an event

Reputed writer Ernest Hemingway effectively explained that bullfighting is "a decadent art in every way [...] if it were permanent it could be one of
the major arts". Bullfighting is an art, and the ВґВґtoreroВґВґ (the person that outmaneuver and eventually kills the bull) is considered to be the artist.
Continuing with the same principle, the fans are the judges who, based on the artistic performance of the ВґВґtoreroВґВґ, decide whether it was a

Moreover, it is considered that the closer the bullВґs horns get to the ВґВґtoreroВґВґ, the better the ВґВґtoreroВґВґ and the quality of the corrida.
Spanish poet Garcia Lorca affirmed that ВґВґbullfighting is the only art in which the artist is in danger of death and in which the degree of brilliance

governmental policies on tobacco, and discuss evidence that shows the impact of these policies.
1.2 Methodology
Desk research was conducted by accessing relevant governmental and Commonwealth websites for legislative requirements. Information about public
and private external organisations was gathered by internet research, not using specific data bank.

At least 69 compounds derived from tobacco smoking are known carcinogens. Second–hand smoke (SHS) contains those chemicals in different
proportions, exposing non–smokers to harmful conditions (American Cancer Society, 2014).
Whilst adults have the choice to be exposed to SHS, children often do not have the chance of expressing their preference( American Cancer Society,
2014), especially when travelling in cars. Among other factors, breathing in SHS increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, development of
asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia, meningitis, coughs and colds and otitis media (Royal College of Physicians, 2010).
Most of Australians (88%) reported using a passenger vehicle to get to places other than work in 2012, such as to go shopping or visiting family and
friends. Considering that children aged between 5 and 6 years old spend an average of 68 minutes/day travelling in the car (Baxter & Hayes, 2012) , it
is important to guard them from environmental tobacco smoke.
As observed by Chapman & Freeman (2007), car manufacturers operating in Australia have replaced cigarette lighters with a power source for
electronic equipment and ashtrays do not exist in most models. Most European cars have abandoned the idea of having the "smokers ' kit" as well.

Why Do Scientists Come Up Hypotheses
This paper will be talking about hypotheses and theories that have been proven over time with the experience of how scientists came up with their own

hypothesis correct. Russian Chemist A.I. Oparin and English Geneticist J.B.S. Haldane were the first scientists involved and conceived the Primordial
Soup Hypothesis. It was developed in the year 1924. These scientists claimed that the building blocks of the life came from one simple molecule that
was formed from the atmosphere (without oxygen) and was called "organic soup". Now,evidence suggests that the first organisms were autotrophs. Two
new scientists, Chemists Stanley Miller and Physicist Harold Urey, did a famous experiment 30 years later in 1950. Their experiment consisted of

A restaurant is an establishment where refreshments or meals may be obtained by the public; a public eating house (Merriam–Webster, 2015). The
initial notion of selling food for profit dates back to as far as the earliest civilisation. Restaurants were a place that people would come to eat, drink and
socialise as recognised by the French Revolution. In the early to mid–18th century, only taverns and inns sold food and drink. There were no menus or
even options to choose from, the choice of food that would be served on differing nights would be determined solely by the chef. The food they
served mainly consisted of boiled or roasted meat broth, served without sauce or seasonal vegetables. The word 'Restaurant' itself derived from a
French word that describes this particular boiled or roasted meath broth that they served. Overtime, restaurants developed an established concept that
steered away from the traditional inns (which were usually located in the middle of the countryside, providing meals to travellers) and provided seating
to customers at their own tables, and a menu from which patrons could choose their own dish. The definition of restaurant may be extended and
brought under the broader concept of store as restaurants of every type and sub–type are strictly in the business of merchandising food. The same

This is the result of commercial and investment banks lending vast sums for housing purchases and consumer loans to borrowers who are ill–equipped
to repay. As consumers begin to default on their loans, banks are realizing the horrendous fact that they have no tangible cash to carry out business
procedures. These profound errors in risk management are taking disastrous tolls on the economy. The U.S. economy is now facing four serious
problems. The first problem is that consumers are cutting back on spending in an effort to try and repay their loans. "Presently, consumers and banks
are trying to reduce the amount of money borrowed in relation to their assets or income, a process known as de–leveraging" (Francis, 2008). This will
cause a recession since consumers make up seventy percent of all spending. The inventory of unsold homes is now large, so the demand for housing
and construction will be low for several years. Other businesses will also begin to reduce the production of goods in order to keep pace with the
decrease in demand. The International Monetary fund is forecasting the United States' gross domestic product to grow by just .5% in 2008 and .6% in
2009. The problem of consumer spending is actually the least of the economy's worries. The second dilemma that the economy faces is the increase in
the number of defaults on mortgage payments and consumer loans. Large quantities of consumers were purchasing homes in belief that the property

William Shakespeare Controversy
Up until a decade ago, there was no questioning the famous playwright William Shakespeare's authorship. Now, theorists use the lack of documents
on Shakespeare's life and doubt about how a commoner like Shakespeare could have written his famous plays to argue against Shakespeare's
authorship. While arguments for other candidates may be compelling, no concrete proof exists for any one candidate that provides a clearer picture of
a literary genius than Shakespeare himself. Those who support Shakespeare as the best candidate and true author "emphasize the fact that the body of
evidence that does exist points to Shakespeare, and no one else, as the author of his works" (Pruitt). The established documented facts: Shakespeare's
education, the appearance of his name on not only his published plays, but around eighty other writer's works as a form of tribute or homage in an era
where providing the author's name was not customary, his familiarity with acting, setting the stage, and orchestration of the action, and his life events
which are reflected in the mood of his writing give William Shakespeare holds the strongest claim to the works that bear his name.
From the historical evidence available on William Shakespeare's life, it is known that he was born in April 1564, the oldest son of John Shakespeare.
John Shakespeare was ambitious, and he filled many municipal offices in Stratford including that of burgess, which privileged him to educate his
children without charge at the

Very briefly, the CPA step analyses the customer base to identify customers to target with different value propositions. The second step involves the
business in getting to know the selected customers as segments or individuals and building a customer data–base which is accessible to all those whose
decisions or activities impact upon customer attitude and behaviour. Step three involves

The Role of the Cartels, the United States and the...
The "Drug War" along the border of Mexico and the United States is one of the longest coordinated engagements of law enforcement (who have
accepted the aid of the Mexican military) in both countries' history (Winslow, 2015). The history of this unofficial war is extraordinarily complicated;
rife with both political and criminal players, violence, corruption, bad policy, and controversy. Its importance to America and Mexico cannot be
underestimated, especially in its role in legislation, law enforcement techniques, and public opinion. The sheer size and scope of the war surpasses
general understandings of battlefields and skirmishes; but it is obvious where the most "warfare" is occurring–the border (Pacheco, 2009). To explore

This dramatic operation effectively ended after about 10 days, and was completely abandoned after 20–both public and political outcry from both sides
of the border pressured him to ease up. It is here that one may consider the first "shots" were fired of the war on drugs, in the Mexican theatre.
However, Nixon was just one step in a progression of drug policy reforms since the early 20th century. But for the sake of conciseness, many historians
consider this a key turning point in Mexico–US relations relating to illegal drugs (Payan, 2006). Over the next two decades, the US carried out swift
and largely effective operations to stop the flow of cocaine from Columbia through the Caribbean (Vance, 2011). The Columbians, frustrated by the
DEA's efforts there, sought a new pathway to the lucrative American public–and they turned to Mexico. Miguel Angle Felix Gallardo–an already
successful drug lord who had an efficient system already in place for his heroin and marijuana distribution–saw the prospect and immediately agreed to
aid the Columbians. This agreement formed what could be considered the largest drug cartel Latin America has ever seen, the Guadalajara. Gallardo, a
relatively stable, sane and calm personality, was able to efficiently move these drugs into the US at an alarming rate–prompting an aggressive
counter–drug

Strategic management Tesco
Strategic Management Research Essay – Tesco
The report below provides an insight into the supermarket company Tesco, with emphasis on the company's internal analysis of resources, competence
and competitive advantage, whilst also considering its external environment.
Tesco are the chosen company for this report as they are the market leader within the supermarket industry, Tesco controls over 30 percent of the UK
grocery market, a figure which is almost double the combined share of nearest rivals Asda and Sainsbury's. This provides the report with an excellent
basis for analysis of competitive advantage. The statistical evidence for the company's performance over the last five years can be seen in the table and
graphs, within in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, Miller (1992) questions the notion of being "caught in the middle".
One of the primary activities of the value chain model and one of Tesco's core competencies is marketing and sales. Evidence of this is through
Tesco's use of information technology as a key resource, with over 40 million customer's worldwide using loyalty card's such as 'Clubcard' (TescoPlc,
2013). Research by Clemons and Row (1991) suggests that although it is unlikely that any single investment in information technology will lead to
competitive advantage, what does make a difference is the competency to innovate with IT over a period of time. This shows how Tesco's innovation
of the 'Clubcard' has enabled them to differentiate from their competitors, as they have shown the notion of innovation that is not easily replicated.
Specifically, Tesco' use of information technology has lead to a competitive advantage as it is used to leverage differences in strategic resources.
Evidence of this is supported by Rowley (2005), who describes how Tesco's ability to understand their customers effectively, as a source of both
differentiation and cost advantages, provides them with a competitive advantage. Rowley states that unlike other companies, Tesco uses data about its
customers to provide services for them. This innovative capability allows making correct decisions about which products to supply and the best way to
introduce this

Chapter 11 Apush Outline

  • 1. Chapter 11 Apush Outline Raflores, Lhaird Ch.1: With the Treaty of Paris, the British set up military posts running from the Northern end of Lake Champlain, to Niagara, Detroit, and Michigan Peninsula. The British took the posts because the US failed to live up the treaty terms. In 1784, the Spain closed the lower Mississippi River to the American commerce, and then orders a tariff on US goods. The U.S. made negotiation for commercial treaties and did trade directly with Europe. The Britain excluded the U.S from the imperial trade and received a large quantity of cheap goods. The U.S in the time of depression and the balance of trade made some states print more money between 1785 and 1786. Other states also tried imposing taxes and restricting new issues of money. ... The USS Constitution defeated the HMS Guerrier and in October the USS United States forced the surrender of HMS Macedonian also the USS Constitution destroyed HMS Java. In the Invasion of Canada in 1812, the US military leadership was poor and attack against Canada failed. Gen. William Hull retreated and surrendered Fort Detroit in July 1812. • 2. Summary Of Dr. John Walton's Compassionate Care Dr. John Walton, in writing this work, is attempting to bring to the forefront the reality that "catharsis" plays a vital role in patient recovery. According to Dr. Walton, Christian counseling has come to depend more upon its theological roots and less upon psychology. The single most important ability of a Christian counselor should be that of being a good listener. Often the counselee will tell the SCP what the problem is and sometimes even the solution. Dr. Walton agrees with Saint Francis de Sales statement, "Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them. Every day begins the task anew." The author's intent for this book is to make available a reliable source of information for caregivers of the seriously ill. Dr. Walton discussed the physical and emotional needs of patients and caregivers. • 3. My Greatest Mistake In My Life Never did I think a horrible mistake would positively impact my life this much. During my short 17 years of life, I have overcome many obstacles that have now shaped me to who I am today. One of the first obstacles life ever threw my way was the changing of schools multiple times. I transferred schools three times in my life, which made keeping friends rather difficult. I first transferred to a new school when I was going into the 5th grade. I found this challenging because I was at my former school from 18 months old till 10, so it was all I knew. I was scared to acquire new friends, which now I find was the silliest idea to be afraid of. Once I found my niche at this new school, I made a huge mistake in life that altered my path forever.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the end of November till the 21 of December my Grandpa was put into Hospice, or a at home nursing home to prepare your loved one for death. At this time I was trying to balance my studies as well as supporting my family morally and emotionally due to the tough times we were going through. During the week of exams, my father was rarely home because of his father nearing death. This led me and my mom to provide each other with dinner and help each other. Knowing about the struggles we were having, my two uncles which were my moms brothers came over to have dinner and help up set up our Christmas tree. It was December 20th when they came over which was the day before my grandpa passed. My mom mistook me for my uncle and said my grandpa was going to die that night or the next morning. I didn't realize she said this and didn't know they were hiding this from me. I came home from my exams the next day to see my father balling due to his death. Because of the mourning process I missed one day of exams and lost complete focus in school for a short time. After I came to the facts that he was dead I started to work harder than I have ever worked before. This led to me getting the best grades I had ever gotten in my high school career and they are still getting better. While getting over death is never fully obtainable, you have to learn to be able to live with the thoughts that run through your head daily about your deceased love one. I ... • 4. Graduation Shot-Personal Narrative "8B, please come up when your name is called." We were lined up in alphabetical order by the brick wall. Our silky blue robes brushed the floor as we fidgeted nervously. A wooden stage was set up in the front of the gym since our school didn't have an auditorium. Blue and gold banners with the distinct St. Francis de Sales cross imprinted were draped over an arc–like frame for the backdrop. An aisle ran down the middle of the rows of foldable chairs, now occupied with our parents, relatives, friends, and teachers. They sat on the edges of their seats with their phones raised, already prepared to capture the perfect graduation shot. Mr. Johnson, my U.S. history teacher, was standing rigidly in the center of the stage along with our church pastor and our principal. The certificates were clutched tightly in his hands. During the ceremony rehearsal, we were instructed to shake hands... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each step up the stairs increased my apprehension. My thoughts were now jumbled. All I could think about was the moment I was about to encounter, the moment that I had been waiting so long to experience yet never wanted to arrive. I hurried across the stage. I had never liked being the center of attention, but all the same, a flame of pride had been ignited in me. My mother would be somewhere up front, trying every way she could to achieve the perfect angle for the perfect picture. Mr. Johnson handed me my certificate, which I grasped in my hands, clammy from the agitation I felt since an hour prior. The pastor and principal were smiling encouragingly. I shook their hands, then turned so that I was facing the audience. To the people watching this scene unfold, it would have seemed like I was uncomfortable. However, the smile plastered across my face was genuine. I walked quickly off the stage. Now that more than a hundred pairs of eyes weren't on me, I was elated. I couldn't contain my pride. • 5. Iron-Sulfur World Hypothesis: The Origins Of Life There are many ways that Researchers across the world have come up with for the reason for life today. These following examples are some of the most popular today. Primordial soup hypothesis: Life began about three and a half billion years ago when amino acids lead to the beginning of life in a body of water. Alexander Oparin in 1924. The chemicals were like "soup" and mixed together to make proteins. There was an experiment that showed that organic molecules could be formed from non–organic atoms. Called the Miller–Urey experiment, that proved that it was possible. Iron–Sulfur world Hypothesis: Gunter Wachtershauser introduced a theory in 1988 about how the first organism was created by biomolecules made by a high pressure lava flow. A similar event has happened and can happen in the right environment. Deep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only after evolution did DNA take over. Proposed by Sir Francis Crick, he determined that RNA could act as an enzyme and a gene to masterfully create the basis for all life today. Community Clay Hypothesis: This theory about the origin of life comes from clay creating a perfect environment for the synthesis of biomolecules. Clay hydrogels are what supported the creation of complex biomolecules. Dan Luo presented a way for inexpensive hydrogels to be used to produce proteins. Then he realized he might have discovered more than just a way to synthesize protein, but how life was synthesized. Panspermia Hypothesis: Sales Gyon De Montlivant was a major contributing factor to the development of this hypothesis. He proposed that life came from the moon. While he was proven wrong, he jumpstarted a theory based on live starting from space materials or other planetary materials. H.E. Richter also proposed that life came from comets and asteroids so he contributed in the same sense. Now the theory means that life "seeds" came from another planet and moved to ... • 6. Houma History Prior to 1870, Jean Pierre was involved with the Houma Academy and later the Sisters of the Marianites of the Holy Cross, to establish the convenient school that later became St. Francis de Sales Elementary School. In 1870, Jean Pierre sent his son, FranГ§ois "Frank" Camille to Louisiana State University, formerly Louisiana State Seminary. The school, relocated from near Alexandria, Louisiana after a fire, to Baton Rouge on the grounds of the Deaf and Dumb Asylum. At 13 years old, Frank Viguerie became a member of the Preparatory Class of cadets. Also in 1870, Jean Pierre dug a canal to facilitate the transportation of lumber, working with the St. Louis Cypress Company to harvest the many acres of cypress trees owned by the Vigueries. In Houma, the Viguerie building and others in the block witnessed one of the most dramatic incidents in Houma history. During the tense days of the carpet–bag regime in the 1870's when Louisiana was under federal occupation, grim–faced men, armed with guns, stood on the balconies and upstairs windows of the two–story buildings in the block to keep off a hostile mob of several hundred. They marched into Houma on foot armed with pitchforks, rakes, hoes, and any farm implement that could serve as a weapon. Striking workers had not committed any violent acts, but their standoff with obstinate planters was heading toward a violent climax on January 14, 1871. For two days in a row, Henry C. This variant of Christianity derives its name from Presbyterian form of ecclesiastical polity. The church is governed by representatives of elders or ministers. It also primarily follows Calvinism since Knox was in Geneva along with Calvin and took his teachings back to Scotland where Presbyterian form of church started. Protestant Reformation was due to several reasons including distrust in papacy, Western Schism, corruption of priests and bishops, and Renaissance humanism. In England, Henry VIII was desiring to annul his marriage with Catherine of Aragorn and marry Catherine Parr. However, the pope at the time did not approve of this. Because of this, he passed Act of Supremacy in 1534 and made the king the head of Church of England. This did not affect Scotland because it was about 70 years before the two kingdoms were united. In Scotland, John Knox started as a Catholic priest. Historians are not very clear about the earlier life of John Knox but in 1546, he turned away from Catholic and embraced reformation probably provoked by Wishart's death. George Wishart was a reformist who fled to Scotland in 1538. Knox became one of the closest associates of Wishart and deeply rooted in Protestantism. In 1546, reformists forcefully took a garrison to take refuge. Scotland called for France for help and Knox was captured as a onboard slave for a French galley for nearly two years. Knox was released in 1549 and returned to England to take refuge. He was appointed one of royal chaplain for Edward VI. His position was changed due to the reign of Mary I, so called Bloody Mary. She restored Catholicism to England from 1553 onwards. John Knox fled to Geneva in 1554 and met Calvin. He learned more of reformed theology and Presbyterian polity. There he wrote a series of tracts on political disobedience to idolatrous rulers, misogynist view of women's rights to rule, and right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. New Generation Of Ships For The Merchant Marine Despite extensive renovations and unsympathetic additions to her superstructure, The Emerald, as she was known for her final years of service, was in fact a significant ship in maritime history. She was one of the last American–built passenger ships and steamships, able to survive years of obscurity and the bankruptcy of two owners to have a long career. Starting her life as Santa Rosa, her story began as part of the United States Government's post–World War II initiatives to encourage development of a new generation of ships for the merchant marine. A beneficiary of these efforts, in 1954 Grace Line entered into a $286 million agreement for one of the largest ship replacement programs in American history. Grace Line was a storied firm, tracing its roots back to William Russell Grace, who was born in 1832 in County Cork, Ireland. He established a trading business between Peru, Europe and the United States, operating magnificent clipper ships before transitioning from sail to steam. By the 1950s, Grace Line's fleet consisted of twenty–three passenger and cargo vessels operating on three Latin American trade routes, including two 1932–built 10,000 gross ton sister ships, Santa Rosa and Santa Paula, that offered fortnightly service from New York with stops in the Caribbean en route to Columbia and Venezuela. Essay about Arkansas: A Different State Arkansas: A Different State For many people the very mention of the word "Arkansas" conjures up images that are unflattering and certainly not very complimentary. To suggest that Arkansas is "a different state" is to guarantee almost immediate agreement from any given audience, but such agreement is usually about the negative aspects of the state instead of the ones making for actual difference. Those negative aspects extend back to the early days of the territory. When Cephas Washburn was on his way to Arkansas in 1819 to serve as a missionary to the Cherokees, he stopped at the present site of Vicksburg, Mississippi, to obtain specific directions to the territory, only to be told that "the way to get there was wnknown."1 ... • 20. Chinese Influence On The United States Chinese Influence in America Dustin Merritt Webster University Abstract The influence China is having on the United States is extraordinary. As America continues to drastically import and purchase from China, China is purchasing and investing in valuable American assets. Some of these assets include energy, entertainment, food, aviation, minerals, land and other businesses. Although we operate in a global economy, the positive short–term gains by American companies selling to foreign investors may lead to negative long–term consequences. Countries such as China are literally buying tangible assets on American soil. This trend could affect commercial prices, resources, supply and demand. When a foreign company or individual owns rights to assets in the Unites States, American citizens could be subject to their conditions. Americans could be at the mercy of market conditions set forth by an entity to whom we are directly competing with on a global scale. For better or worse, China has great influence on inflation, monetary policy and acquisition within our own borders. Chinese Procurement of American Resources Global market conditions have presented opportunities for investors to purchase assets for less. The ongoing plunge in bank capital is already forcing banks to significantly cut back on outstanding loans, and businesses' plans for major investment projects are being scaled back. These capital losses are resulting in financial institutions going bankrupt or merging with stronger banks. Even while cutting back on long–term loans seems to be unbearable, short–term loans pose a greater threat to the survival of the financial system. The fourth and final threat facing our economy is the necessity of short–term loans. In an effort to reestablish tangible capital, banks are beginning to cut back on short–term loans. "If the short–term commercial paper and money markets were to break down, the economy could go into a severe collapse because solvent and profitable businesses would be unable to attract working capital" (Sachs, 2008). • 24. Coffee And Poverty First of all, people in local communities suffer from poverty because of imbalanced trade and payment to the commodity that they grow. Their lives depend a great deal on so–called global commodities such as coffee, cacao, and tea, which can be available to citizens in developed countries at a low price. Therefore the demand of these commodities has increased in the last few decades. According to Ambinakudige (2009),coffee that is one of the most traded commodities in the world is the main means of small farmers' lives in developing countries. He examined how people in developing worlds are influenced by volatile global markets, especially focused on small farmers in the Kodagu district of India. In 1998, the amount of coffee export reached to US$469 million. However, after the International Coffee Agreement collapsed, known as the coffee crisis, which deregulated the international coffee supply, the labour force in coffee sector decreased in India, and 150,000 jobs were lost between 2000 and 2002 (Oxfam, cited in Ambinakudige 2009). People cannot manage their coffee plants and yield, earn enough money to return a loan on time, and get the loan the following year, which results in less investment in coffee. That cycle makes their lives worse and makes people stay in the cycle of poverty (Ambinakudige 2009 p.562). Here is an another example of livelihoods of coffee farmers. Samuel Shaw, the officer of the Empress of China, was responsible for overseeing the cargo and the sale of the goods that traveled on the merchant ship. The reason I admire him and love to think of him is because of his disposition towards all such that the Church has declared him, "All things to all men and women." At the same time he was generous and kind–hearted to all, he was also a great leader who nevertheless submitted his leadership decisions in all things to the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. The way St. Francis treated his neighbors was always with compassion and tenderness. He was known far and wide for his gentleness. St. Francis de Sales was able to accomplish very much for the temporal and spiritual well–being of the people in his pastoral care, and yet he had a deep prayer life with meditation and reflection each morning and evening, and several other prayers throughout the day. Pope Leo X was born into the Medici family on December 11, 1475 in the Republic of Florence and given the name Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici by his parents, Lorenzo the Magnificent and Clarice Orsini. • 31. Argumentative Essay On Bullfighting In Spain Bullfighting has existed for thousands of years and it has been popular in Spain for nearly a millennium. Its cultural, economic and social impact to the Spanish culture is undeniable, but it is a theme that has encountered a very heated debate over the past years. Anti–taurine claim that bullfighting is indecent, unnecessary and barbaric, but their arguments are often unsubstantiated. The aggressive and bloody nature of this spectacle has always created extreme positioning among people on whether being in favor or not. I saw my first ever corrida in the ВґВґValenciaВґs Plaza de TorosВґВґ back in 2008 and was immediately smitten. The crowd, the blood and the spectacle that bullfighting proposes does not leave anybody indifferent and I wasnВґt the exception. Whilst adults have the choice to be exposed to SHS, children often do not have the chance of expressing their preference( American Cancer Society, 2014), especially when travelling in cars. Among other factors, breathing in SHS increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, development of asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia, meningitis, coughs and colds and otitis media (Royal College of Physicians, 2010). These scientists claimed that the building blocks of the life came from one simple molecule that was formed from the atmosphere (without oxygen) and was called "organic soup". The initial notion of selling food for profit dates back to as far as the earliest civilisation. Restaurants were a place that people would come to eat, drink and socialise as recognised by the French Revolution. In the early to mid–18th century, only taverns and inns sold food and drink. There were no menus or even options to choose from, the choice of food that would be served on differing nights would be determined solely by the chef. The food they served mainly consisted of boiled or roasted meat broth, served without sauce or seasonal vegetables. The word 'Restaurant' itself derived from a French word that describes this particular boiled or roasted meath broth that they served. Overtime, restaurants developed an established concept that steered away from the traditional inns (which were usually located in the middle of the countryside, providing meals to travellers) and provided seating to customers at their own tables, and a menu from which patrons could choose their own dish. The definition of restaurant may be extended and brought under the broader concept of store as restaurants of every type and sub–type are strictly in the business of merchandising food. As consumers begin to default on their loans, banks are realizing the horrendous fact that they have no tangible cash to carry out business procedures. These profound errors in risk management are taking disastrous tolls on the economy. The U.S. economy is now facing four serious problems. The first problem is that consumers are cutting back on spending in an effort to try and repay their loans. "Presently, consumers and banks are trying to reduce the amount of money borrowed in relation to their assets or income, a process known as de–leveraging" (Francis, 2008). This will cause a recession since consumers make up seventy percent of all spending. The inventory of unsold homes is now large, so the demand for housing and construction will be low for several years. Other businesses will also begin to reduce the production of goods in order to keep pace with the decrease in demand. The International Monetary fund is forecasting the United States' gross domestic product to grow by just .5% in 2008 and .6% in 2009. The problem of consumer spending is actually the least of the economy's worries. The second dilemma that the economy faces is the increase in the number of defaults on mortgage payments and consumer loans. • 37. William Shakespeare Controversy Up until a decade ago, there was no questioning the famous playwright William Shakespeare's authorship. Now, theorists use the lack of documents on Shakespeare's life and doubt about how a commoner like Shakespeare could have written his famous plays to argue against Shakespeare's authorship. While arguments for other candidates may be compelling, no concrete proof exists for any one candidate that provides a clearer picture of a literary genius than Shakespeare himself. Those who support Shakespeare as the best candidate and true author "emphasize the fact that the body of evidence that does exist points to Shakespeare, and no one else, as the author of his works" (Pruitt). The established documented facts: Shakespeare's education, the appearance of his name on not only his published plays, but around eighty other writer's works as a form of tribute or homage in an era where providing the author's name was not customary, his familiarity with acting, setting the stage, and orchestration of the action, and his life events which are reflected in the mood of his writing give William Shakespeare holds the strongest claim to the works that bear his name. From the historical evidence available on William Shakespeare's life, it is known that he was born in April 1564, the oldest son of John Shakespeare. John Shakespeare was ambitious, and he filled many municipal offices in Stratford including that of burgess, which privileged him to educate his children without charge at the ... Its importance to America and Mexico cannot be underestimated, especially in its role in legislation, law enforcement techniques, and public opinion. Evidence of this is through Tesco's use of information technology as a key resource, with over 40 million customer's worldwide using loyalty card's such as 'Clubcard' (TescoPlc, 2013). Research by Clemons and Row (1991) suggests that although it is unlikely that any single investment in information technology will lead to competitive advantage, what does make a difference is the competency to innovate with IT over a period of time. This shows how Tesco's innovation of the 'Clubcard' has enabled them to differentiate from their competitors, as they have shown the notion of innovation that is not easily replicated. Specifically, Tesco' use of information technology has lead to a competitive advantage as it is used to leverage differences in strategic resources. Evidence of this is supported by Rowley (2005), who describes how Tesco's ability to understand their customers effectively, as a source of both differentiation and cost advantages, provides them with a competitive advantage.
