Increase College Success
College success is defined as academic excellence Many factors lead to success in college and
identifying these positive influences is important to serve as a guide for parents who desire a college
education for their children and for college students who want to achieve their educational goals.
There are differences of opinion inn ranking these factors or influences in order of importance.
There are some that believe that a college degree is not important. Then there are others that think
that because they did not do well in high school, college is not for theme. However, there are three
factors that are crucial to follow in order to increase college success such as placing a value on
education, parental support and the amount one studies.
One of the three factors is how much a person values a college education Placing a value on
education does not only help one obtain a great job, it can help a person become a better educated,
responsible and respected young adult, In addition, family and friends view changes after a person
successfully attains a college degree. Furthermore, one fells more successful in life knowing that
their study time had paid off. In general, students that finish college have a fifty percent increase

The College Success Course
A quality education ignites a thirst for learning that forms a foundation for an affluent community.
Unfortunately, an embarrassing amount of high school graduates of Bogalusa, Louisiana, are not
thirsting for higher education. In 2011, City Data reported that 72.9% of adults, aged 25 or older
living in Bogalusa, Louisiana, has a high school degree, but only 12.0% of the same population has
earned a bachelor's degree. This is an obvious problem for the individual students who decide not to
go to college but the lack of higher education affects the entire community as a whole. Without a
bachelor's degree, students are less likely to be employed, more likely to live in poverty, and are less
active citizens of their community. Students with a low level of education are also more likely of
welfare dependency and crime. In order to raise the 12% college educated citizens in Bogalusa, high
school juniors and seniors of Bogalusa High School should be required to complete a college
success course before graduation. The ultimate purpose of the College Success course is to teach
each junior and senior the benefits of successfully earning a bachelor's degree and the consequences
of choosing not to pursue higher education. This will be accomplished by helping students to define
goals and interests, understanding college costs, and planning financially and academically. The first
step is for the teacher to prepare a list of questions to help students define goals and interests. This

Initially college education seems to be the perfect tool to succeed in real life. Newly graduated may
believe that achieving their goals is easy, but the truth is opposite, slowly they become aware that
the surrounding factors can be extremely hostile. However, the success of those that have completed
a college education and step into the real world depends on several individual factors such as
motivation, self–confidence, personality, and perseverance.
Although a successful college education is associated with higher skills and greater abilities,
unexpected, the struggle for success, in reality, is overwhelming. Therefore, a standard practice
taught in school and real world practice is entirely different. Today's society is overwhelmed by the
amount of information and research that is added every year, and some school curriculum updates
slow; consequently, by the end of the educational process, information learned in school becomes
outdated or inapplicable. Additionally, college students are asked to take part in some courses that
probably will never apply to the real world. Therefore, college graduation is not a guaranty for a
perfect future, because not every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

failure or success to factors that are surrounding us is not a point of reference in finding answers.

According to a Thomas Nelson Web site, only 15.7 percent of students were able to complete their
degree in 2010. This statistic is shocking because not many students are graduating. I am attending
Thomas Nelson now in a two–year program. In addition, I hope I will be part of the 15.7 percent

Success or Failure in College
Do you know that 20% of students dropout college because they couldn't handle the academic
work? Most people believe that college is the main key for getting a good job. Thousands of
students are enrolling in college in the United States every year. However, some of them quit college
after the freshman year. Learning about success in college is very important. All students should
learn about success in college, which will give them a full idea of how they can be successful in
college. There are many things that students should learn to meet their goals in college. There are
huge differences between high school and college. Students should predict a lot of work in college
before they start studying, and that work must be organized with high quality. Your instructors will
expect an academic work from you. This is will be a huge step in your education, and you need to
spend more time on your project. For instance, you have to be aware about when the assignment is
due to give it enough time to make it as good as you can, (The University of Alabama).
Students should choose their major very carefully. A few students who graduated from high school
have their own thought about their major. On the other hand, the majority of students might be
confused about their major. If you don't have an idea which major will be good for your future life,
you might take a specific quiz that might give you an idea about yourself. Most colleges provide

College Admissions Essay: The Definition Of Success
The dictionary definition of success is "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose", while this is true,
I personally hold a definition of success to a higher standard. With failure being a crucial part of
ultimately reaching success, the definition therefore is not simply accomplishing a goal, a task, or
overcoming a challenge, rather it is working hard to achieve that goal to the best of one's ability and
learning valuable life or academic lessons along the way. To me it is the knowledge gained that can
be applied to other aspects of one's life that is of utmost importance when working towards a goal,
regardless of the outcome. Measuring success on a personal level is more than just achieving a goal,
it is feeling a sense of pride and happiness of working towards a goal, completing it, and watching
oneself grow as a person as a result. Whenever I complete a goal, no matter how small, the most
gratifying part is feeling that sense of pride for knowing I worked my hardest to achieve the desired
outcome. The supportive nature, inclusive environment, and focus on learning through experience at

The Reflection Of Achieving College Success In College
Achieving College Success has been a very positive journey for me. Prior to the course, I was
mostly a positive thinker, and had overcome several things in my life. However, the class provided
me with strategies useful in pushing forward in all life circumstances. Many negative thoughts run
through my head, as is true for everyone else. It was important to know how to control them and use
my negative experiences to better myself. I also learned how to set positive goals that will positively
benefit me, and to set a deadline to achieve my goals. I feel much more organized and confident
after taking this course. I feel like I can face anything and come out of it with a positive take away
or goal, and building off every experience will always be a goal now. This class gives great advice
for achieving success in all major life goals. The main, and probably most important concept I
learned was the Creator idea. This means that, "When you accept personal responsibility, you
believe you can create everything in your life." (Downing, 43) I knew I could create many positive
things in the world beforehand. I had a migraine for over 3 years toward the end of middle school,
and in the beginning of high school. I should have died at birth, but was given a test trial medication
that saved my life. I had childhood epilepsy that went away, and I have a disabled mother and a dead
sister. Perseverance and coming back from trouble have been the qualities that have characterized

The Importance Of Success In College
Having a college education has a major impact on someone's career and future. Many people are
either very successful or unsuccessful in their college careers. I believe college is difficult to
successfully complete for many people. There are several reasons why I believe so. One reason I
believe college is difficult to successfully complete is financial issues with the student. Another
reason is because not all students are on the same educational level and some struggle more than
others. The last reason I believe completing college successfully is difficult is because many
students are unable to juggle being a full–time student and being able to work at the same time.
First, finances can have a big impact on whether a student gets to attend college or not. For example,
a very dedicated student can be denied access to a college because they are unable to pay upfront or
by the due date. There are some people who are less fortunate than most people, but those less
fortunate people seem to be the most eager to learn. Even with loans or financial aid available, not
everyone can qualify for that help. Many people will enroll in college and pay their first payments
but end up falling short on the rest of the payments thus causing them to be dropped from their
classes. I can recall the time I was applying for the LVN program in Andrews run by OC. I was a
17–year–old high school graduate with no job experience whatsoever. Of course, my parents were
going to attempt to help me pay

One of the question on the board I'd like to respond to that was very early in the semester is what
does success look like. My original response to this was, "There multiple ways to answer this.
Success is being happy, but smiling is a look associated with happiness, but depressed people can
smile and laugh too. So to answer what success actually looks like is someone who show's
continuous genuine happiness. The best way to achieve that status is to have your stress levels at a
minimum." After being in college for the rest of the semester I think for the most part my answer
stays the same. I still believe success is when you are truly happy in the world you live in, but I can
explain this a lot better. Success is when you don't have to worry about things in life anymore. When
you don't have to work to get yourself out of bed in the morning and knowing what you have to face
for the rest of the day. Success is when you can say to yourself, i'm glad that the things that I did in
my past lead me to this point I am at now. To the new me that's what success looks like. It's not an
easy thing to obtain but everyone can obtain it as long as the keep an optimistic view on life and
remember to just keep moving forward.
Another question I liked from the board that I jotted down was what works? My initial response to
this was this. "Friends & partying helps a lot. It's so much relief but you have to keep it at a balance.
Another thing that helped out a lot was teachers who curve or

The Importance Of Students Success In College
What are the factors that contribute to a student's success in college? Many people would say that it
is up to them how well they do on college, because they are already young adults who already know
their own responsibilities. But these answers are not factors that help student's success and their
attitude are one of the circumstances that are missing from a student life, the support from their
family members and close friends are a lack of confidence and motivation that can be given. In
history, there has been cases in which one thing lead to another, meaning there are an infinity of
things that can help or get it worst. Its time to change the world and give the opportunity to have
some positive thoughts and stay away from all the negativity of other people, leading students to a
new path that will end in a successful college experience. Even though students have challenging
times because of diversity after decades they have many education opportunities, students should
regulate their style of living because of the health issues that could came eventually, time
management will help students survive throughout the courses, and character strengths will increase
positive achievements on life.
First, students should regulate their style of living because of the problematic events that could came

Strategies for Succeeding in College College is a time unlike any other in our life, like high school,
middle school, nor elementary school where students can just turn everything in at the end of the
fourth quarter. College academics, especially in the first term, will be the most difficult because it is
new material that students have never seen before. Plus, they'll be facing much higher expectations
for performance and the expectation that they are the one responsible for their own motivation and
success. Unlike high school, college expects students to build their education from the bottom up,
rather than regurgitating whatever facts a teacher feeds he/she students. This means much more
work than they are used to. As a college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

According to the Web site collegeresults.org, only about 19% of students attending Thomas Nelson

Most people will agree that a college education is important. According to Robert. S. Feldon, a
psychology professor, a college education offers many benefits (29). One important benefit is that I
will be more comfortable at thinking critically as well as communicating better. I will be able to
analyze and solve problems by understanding how things are now verses how they will be. Another
benefit is that I will be able to adapt to different and new situations. I will use the college culture,
new challenges, and new experiences to better prepare for my future experiences. A third benefit is
that I will be comfortable with leading a life of community service. Colleges provide opportunities
in the community where I learn how to treat others with courtesy and respect while making my own
contributions. Finally, I will be more comfortable living and working in a world of diversity by
understanding others, their backgrounds, and how our cultures impact each other.

There is a certain criteria which a college must meet in order for me to feel that a truly beneficial
education can be gained from it, and with the costs that go into college it is highly important that
this criteria be met. My first choice school would have definitely met my personal requirements, but
in the event that admission to this college was not granted to me my previously used checklist would
be applied to my three options in order to determine the best school for me.
A personal first on the college checklist is population size, classes with an average of twenty
students or less are most desirable to me. Over the years small schools have become the norm, and

There is of course also the issue of a different class style to grow accustomed to. It stands to reason
that my strategies for taking notes during lectures would need work as lectures will become a
commonality for me as a college student. The book mentions using the note taking process that
works best for an individual and does not attempt to assign the label of best to any of the methods
listed, because ideas are tools after all. The book also mentions the importance of each step of the
note taking process and this seems to be where the most work is needed for me. At times certain
steps are skimmed over and a greater attention to detail could assist me with learning more from my
notes, and this is perhaps the biggest thing that can be taken from the book, and it does apply solely

I have broken these goals down further and further, to the basic steps of completing all of my

these goals in a timely manner, I must plan for time management. According to a study done by

For many years, the idea of success in life has been simple enough: a person embarks in school for
twelve years, follows up with college, and that will lead to them having a successful life and career
in adulthood. Meant to be a 'natural progression', for many, college was just the next step in life and
simply made sense. There weren't many other choices to be made in that regard. You wanted a good
life? You went to college. You wanted money? College. You do not want to work at McDonald's for
the rest of your life? College. You want a guaranteed future? College.
But this is, unsurprisingly, not an option and future open to many, but not to all and it is not so
simple to come by for many. Social class, race, location, the type of education received, and an
individual's personality all often play a part in a person's ability to get that 'next step' in life to better
themselves. Even upon acceptance, success is not guaranteed to a person at all times, a lesson I

a college education we need to make the most out of the time we have. The average cost in 2004–
2005 of a four year private schools is $20,082 (up 6% from last year) and the average cost of a four
year public school is $5,132 (up 10.5% from last year), (2004–2005 College Costs,
http://www.collegeboard.com/article/0,3868,6–29–0–4494,00.html). With the rising costs of
education a person needs to be disciplined to make the most out of it. All these skills, time
management, critical thinking, and discipline are keys to success in college. I began my college
education in 1991 and these skills are probably the three that I use the most. Time management is a
skill that I have been trying to master since I began my college education. I not only need and utilize
this skill for college but for my civilian job. I think being a college student has made me better at
managing my time but I find I still struggle. Discipline plays a key role in time management, or at
least for me it does. When I make daily lists of things to accomplish I lack the discipline to go back
at the end of the day to check off things that I did accomplish.

College Success
Success, as defined in the dictionary, states the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. In college,
success is exactly what every student wants. Students attend college to get a good education but it
also means much more. College prepares students for life's work. Every person, male or female
needs to work in the world today. Exceeding in college opens the doors to their future. According to
the Inside Higher ED, it explains, "Full–time community college students graduate at a rate of 57
percent within six years." That means almost half who start out don't make it to the end. What would
have helped these students? What are some success strategies that can help all students achieve their
academic goals? Over recent studies, the students who best excel in their classes are those who are
actively involved, those who use and make the most of the campus resources and those who have
the end in mind. Following these three simple steps can make the difference and here is why.
What does it mean to stay actively involved? When students hear the word "school" a lot of times
they think it means the hours spent in class. In a matter of fact, it is, but it also refers to the hours
spent outside of class. A general rule of thumb for college classes is that you should expect to study
about 2 to 3 hours per week outside class for each credit hour. Taking a college class is a lot to bear

Achieving College Success
Stop pressuring us to do something that we might not want to do. What if college isn't for me? There
is always a different path for everyone and college might not be the answer for our future. Yes,
college is a wonderful thing for some people, but we can still be successful without going to college.
Let us make that decision, help motivate us to live our own dreams, as well as to encourage us to
find our path for our future. Parents, teachers, friends, and more should want to help us succeed our
dreams than to go to college if we do not want that. There are several great careers that do not
require college and make a good living environment. For a good example, my father did not attend
college and he makes good money to support his family without having college debt. He is a farmer,

The website webmd.com, it says, "Stress is any change in the environment that requires your body
to react and adjust in response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and
emotional responses." This is not good for the body because stress and pressure can lead to
symptoms such as, headaches, upset stomach, chest pain, and problems sleeping. Putting pressure on
us can affect us in harmful ways and you do not even realize that you are doing this. It is not good to
make us feel this way because it puts more damage to us than you think. On apa.org, it mentions
"When the body is stressed, muscles tense up. The muscle tension is almost a reflex reaction to
stress– the body's way of guarding against injury and pain." To put us through this, is putting us in a
bad situation and is putting stress on us to try to make you happy. All you should want, is for us to
be happy because no matter what, we can be successful without a college career. For us to be stress
free and not feel the pressure, it is only right for you to have confidence in us to know we will take
the right paths and

The Importance Of College Degree To College Success
I believe that college success can help with future success. College success depends on how a
student can apply their knowledge to the real world. College allows a student to explore different
crafts and forge new skills. A college degree can greatly improve a candidate's chance of getting a
high paying job. A college degree shows that an employee has trained professional skills that can be
applied to a company. The most university will have some sort of networking events that will allow
a student find a job easier (DeSilver, 2014). Despite all of these perks, the most important benefit to
get a college degree is an experience. An unconventional example of how can college can lead to
future success is Steve Job. Steve Job was responsible for creating Apple that led to a technological
revolution. His creative ideas allow him to catapult his name to the hall of fame. All of these
accomplishments were inspired by a single college class. This class was a calligraphy class taught in
Reed College (Rosoff, 2016). Steve Job might have dropped out of college, but during his time in
college he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

College Success
What does it mean to be successful? Many people look at the word success from different views.
The dictionary defines success in two ways: the accomplishment of one's goals and then the
attainment of wealth or position. I believe you can be successful in two ways as well: you can be
successful in your career and you can be successful by doing what makes you happy and living a
fulfilling life to your standards. You don't have to have a huge mansion on top of a private hill
looking over the ocean to be defined as successful. When asked what it takes to be successful in
college, that's a different story. To be successful in college is to reach your academic goals in a
productive way. I am in college to obtain a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another vital skill that will help me to succeed in college is to have good communication with
professors. I chose this skill because your instructors are your most important resource through your
college years. Mastering this skill will help me with just about anything; keeping up with grades,
going over questions that I have on the homework assignment so that I don't make the same mistake
on the test. Professors can be your friend if you let them. They really are there to help you succeed.
In "Student Guide to First–Year Composition" Sugie Goen–Salter writes, "When you are a student
in a first–year composition course, your instructor is your most important resource."(50) Goen–
Salter is saying that you have many resources in college but your main one will be your instructor.
You can use them as a learning tool or even as someone to just talk to. I'd much rather my professors
be my friend or at least know me by name and face rather than not know who I am. I will talk to my
professors about anything; the weather, how their day is going, what they had for breakfast, etc. The
purpose of your instructor is to be your guide along this journey of life. If I keep in good contact
with my professors I will never be unsure about what is being asked of me. Sugie Goen–Salter also
writes, "Office hours and your instructor's office location will be listed on your syllabus, and your
instructor will post her office hours outside her

College Essay : College Is Knowledge, Not Success
Bakari Young–Smith
Mrs. Arant
English Comp. A
23 October 2017
College Equals Knowledge, not Success Endless studying, expensive tutors, exhausting all–nighters,
the common theme behind these: high school, or more importantly, graduation (SP #7). While this
may not resonate with 100% of all high school students, for the majority of the student population
this a mutual objective. Especially in a school like Ravenscroft located in Raleigh, NC, a college
preparatory school that offers a high–level of honors and AP classes to ensure success for the 100
percent of graduates who typically pursue education beyond the secondary level (Private). A student
there or anywhere else may devote four plus years to building up a student that colleges will ...

However, after falling through with a U.S Marshall position, Suren's hopes and dreams plummeted
and her debt accumulated to almost six figures (Reveal). Jessie, like many, faced the largest
deterrent of college education: debt. While ultimately the problem lies with the government 's
privatization of student loan debt collection, which through numerous bills has become the least
dischargeable debt (Consumer). Failure to pay off loans often results in constant harassment, which
proved true for retired University of Cincinnati professor Mary Franklin who said, "student debt
collectors told her they would garnish her disability insurance benefits because she had fallen behind
on a student loan dating back decades" (Consumer). This debt continuous to loom, over 70% of
college students graduate with student loan debt with an average amount of $29,000 (Institute).
Conversely, debt should be easily paid off, or it says so on paper. College serves one primary
purpose: to prepare students to enter the adult world with the ability to survive and succeed on their

challenge. One factor that I was completely sure of though, was that I wanted to be doing something
important. Something that I personally felt like I would be remembered while also giving back to
the community in which I live. With that in mind however, it not only takes one's talents that are
depended on but the experience needed when selecting a career path. Out of the many careers that
one can select, I had to pick an admirable career where I would not only make a decent living for
myself and my children, but also undertaking something that I would enjoy doing. Personal Mission

College Admissions Essay: The Seven Secrets Of Success
The "Seven Secrets of Success" lecture brought an uplifting perspective to what building upon your
goals looks like beyond a day–to–day basis. Beginning with the first 'honest truth,' living
intentionally, having a goal–based attitude can only benefit you when you plan and have a way to
reach your desired outcome. The second piece of advice given was to 'choose the right tribe,' in
other words, the energy you keep around you is the energy you put out into the world. The power of
both negative and positive impacts from our friends and peers affect us much more than we realize.
A piece of the lecture that particularly resonated with me was the mention of linking one's identity to
a high performing person or group, also called ignition. Our environments (as well as genetics)
influence our success. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person most affected by your own failures is you. The fourth truth was simply "pick up a book"
(more than once). People who are more wealthy often watch television for under an hour a day.
Anything that sparks personal development or piques the interests you may have is worth learning
about through podcasts or books. Seeking out failure was another piece of advice given, simply
because trying and failing will help you to readjust your course of action and try again faster than
preparing (trying) for much longer to be 'sure,' when you may fail either way. Investing in yourself
is one of the more immediate or tangible ways to live that this lecture brought to my attention.
Asking people who are older, who have experienced more, for advice on how they felt they have
bettered themselves is valuable. The last 'secret' was to work– and not complain. Experience is
everything so taking the opportunities to build upon it is essential. Understanding that success
requires diligent work and commitment without immediate results is part of the attitude one should
carry to reach their

Strategies for Succeeding in College College is a time unlike any other in our life, like high school,
middle school, nor elementary school where students can just turn everything in by the end of the
fourth quarter. College academics, especially in the first term, will be the most difficult because it is
new material that students have never seen before. Plus, they'll be facing much higher expectations
for performance and the expectation that they are the one responsible for their own motivation and
success. This means much more work than they are used to. As a college student one thing in our
mind is to work hard, keep up all the good work, and succeed. "Someone's sitting in the shade today
because someone planted a tree a long time ago."–Les Brown. The most important thing a student
can do when they want to be successful in college is to plan ahead of the course or their schedule.

College : Success, And My Life Is Failure In College
College essay
An experience that has impacted me and my life is failure. In school we learn about a lot of
successful people throughout history. What many people don't know is that a lot of people we study
in history weren't always successful starting out. People like Henry Ford, Albert Einstein, Walt
Disney and multi billionaire Bill Gates all had trouble on the way to success ! It's humanly normal
to fail. Some of the greatest minds in history have failed in order to succeed. Throughout all our
lives we have experienced failure, it is a key factor in our lives that makes us more resilient . But
what is failure? Failure is the inability to succeed; being unsuccessful. For some failure can either
make you or break you, however, it made me into the intelligent, hardworking person I am today.
"Giving up is the only sure way to fail".Five years ago that is exactly what I did. In junior high
school I failed to uphold the values that I set forth prior to beginning junior high school. I always
told myself that I would work hard for my grades, that I would put my all into my work even if I
didn't get good grades, and most importantly I would be a strong intelligent young man. Instead I
gave up, I slacked off, got my house called every week, and worst of all I acted a fool in
class.Ultimately my grades paid the price, and so did I. I was supposed to be mature and well
rounded before I left junior high school ,but at the rate I was going I didn't see that for my

College Success for Non– US Students
College success is important for any student who wants to achieve his or her goals. Foreign–born
Students need to consider what to do in order to be successful in their new situations within a new
world. They have many new challenges in a new country as foreign students, but they can achieve
by having a plan and working hard during their education. . There are things a student needs to take
into consideration if he or she would like to study in another country. Students generally like to try
new things and they can learn a lot from their mistakes. Because they may not have any experience
in their lives yet as students, they need three elements to achieve their academic success: focus,
effort, and motivation.
First, focus is one of the most important factors to success. There are some ways to be successful as
an international student anywhere in the world. Students need to keep in mind where they'll be
studying. First of all, before applying to colleges, students should figure out what colleges they want
to go to and what they're looking for in a college. For example, there are many colleges in the
United States which means that students really don't have to compromise an awful lot to find what
they're looking for. There are so many more factors that add up to the American college experience

manage their learning, activities, and social life. But college is an entirely different ballgame so to
speak. (Jonathan pluckers) Collage is a bit of a paradox when it comes to being successful. We act as
if success and failure are up to you and you alone. And they often are especially compared to high
school, where students have teachers, counselors, coaches and family members among others to

make sure to read your syllabus carefully it's your contact for your course there's no excuse for not
being aware of essential information that has been provided to you. In addition check your email
account daily, faculty and staff will often use email to send you additional information and to

Friends can help out a lot while trying to be successful in school. They can be very encouraging and
can also help out with school work if ever in a bind. Now along with that comes the distractions of
friends wanting to go out and have some fun but you have school work that has to be done before
twelve o'clock that night. Some things can be done to avoid the pressure of deciding what to do.
First thing is that you could finish the school work a couple of days prior to the due date making
sure you are always ahead and not having to stress about making sure your work is turned in on
time. Another thing could be and I know this is probably not going to happen but it is worth a try.
Have your friend help you out with your school work to make sure it is done correctly then the both
of you can go out and have a good time without having to worry if that school work was turned in.
Like said earlier technology can be very distracting when trying to do work if not used in the proper
way. A way to solve this problem is maybe turning your phone on silent and maybe even going as
far as to turning the phone off for the time you are in class so you have your full attention for the
class. Two hours is not long and will not kill you if you do not have your phone looking at it. Also
making sure your phone is not around when doing school work because time can slip away while
the social media is being search and looked at while your school work is right in front of you
needing to be

  • 3. The College Success Course A quality education ignites a thirst for learning that forms a foundation for an affluent community. Unfortunately, an embarrassing amount of high school graduates of Bogalusa, Louisiana, are not thirsting for higher education. In 2011, City Data reported that 72.9% of adults, aged 25 or older living in Bogalusa, Louisiana, has a high school degree, but only 12.0% of the same population has earned a bachelor's degree. This is an obvious problem for the individual students who decide not to go to college but the lack of higher education affects the entire community as a whole. Without a bachelor's degree, students are less likely to be employed, more likely to live in poverty, and are less active citizens of their community. Students with a low level of education are also more likely of welfare dependency and crime. In order to raise the 12% college educated citizens in Bogalusa, high school juniors and seniors of Bogalusa High School should be required to complete a college success course before graduation. The ultimate purpose of the College Success course is to teach each junior and senior the benefits of successfully earning a bachelor's degree and the consequences of choosing not to pursue higher education. This will be accomplished by helping students to define goals and interests, understanding college costs, and planning financially and academically. The first step is for the teacher to prepare a list of questions to help students define goals and interests. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. College Success Initially college education seems to be the perfect tool to succeed in real life. Newly graduated may believe that achieving their goals is easy, but the truth is opposite, slowly they become aware that the surrounding factors can be extremely hostile. However, the success of those that have completed a college education and step into the real world depends on several individual factors such as motivation, self–confidence, personality, and perseverance. Although a successful college education is associated with higher skills and greater abilities, unexpected, the struggle for success, in reality, is overwhelming. Therefore, a standard practice taught in school and real world practice is entirely different. Today's society is overwhelmed by the amount of information and research that is added every year, and some school curriculum updates slow; consequently, by the end of the educational process, information learned in school becomes outdated or inapplicable. Additionally, college students are asked to take part in some courses that probably will never apply to the real world. Therefore, college graduation is not a guaranty for a perfect future, because not every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although college is difficult, I will be successful by seeking advice from experts and by developing effective strategies for success. • 11. Success or Failure in College Do you know that 20% of students dropout college because they couldn't handle the academic work? Most people believe that college is the main key for getting a good job. Thousands of students are enrolling in college in the United States every year. However, some of them quit college after the freshman year. Learning about success in college is very important. All students should learn about success in college, which will give them a full idea of how they can be successful in college. There are many things that students should learn to meet their goals in college. There are huge differences between high school and college. Students should predict a lot of work in college before they start studying, and that work must be organized with high quality. Your instructors will expect an academic work from you. This is will be a huge step in your education, and you need to spend more time on your project. For instance, you have to be aware about when the assignment is due to give it enough time to make it as good as you can, (The University of Alabama). Students should choose their major very carefully. A few students who graduated from high school have their own thought about their major. On the other hand, the majority of students might be confused about their major. • 17. College Admissions Essay: The Definition Of Success The dictionary definition of success is "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose", while this is true, I personally hold a definition of success to a higher standard. With failure being a crucial part of ultimately reaching success, the definition therefore is not simply accomplishing a goal, a task, or overcoming a challenge, rather it is working hard to achieve that goal to the best of one's ability and learning valuable life or academic lessons along the way. To me it is the knowledge gained that can be applied to other aspects of one's life that is of utmost importance when working towards a goal, regardless of the outcome. Measuring success on a personal level is more than just achieving a goal, it is feeling a sense of pride and happiness of working towards a goal, completing it, and watching oneself grow as a person as a result. Whenever I complete a goal, no matter how small, the most gratifying part is feeling that sense of pride for knowing I worked my hardest to achieve the desired outcome. • 19. The Reflection Of Achieving College Success In College Achieving College Success has been a very positive journey for me. Prior to the course, I was mostly a positive thinker, and had overcome several things in my life. However, the class provided me with strategies useful in pushing forward in all life circumstances. Many negative thoughts run through my head, as is true for everyone else. It was important to know how to control them and use my negative experiences to better myself. I also learned how to set positive goals that will positively benefit me, and to set a deadline to achieve my goals. I feel much more organized and confident after taking this course. I feel like I can face anything and come out of it with a positive take away or goal, and building off every experience will always be a goal now. This class gives great advice for achieving success in all major life goals. The main, and probably most important concept I learned was the Creator idea. This means that, "When you accept personal responsibility, you believe you can create everything in your life." (Downing, 43) I knew I could create many positive things in the world beforehand. I had a migraine for over 3 years toward the end of middle school, and in the beginning of high school. I should have died at birth, but was given a test trial medication that saved my life. I had childhood epilepsy that went away, and I have a disabled mother and a dead sister. Perseverance and coming back from trouble have been the qualities that have characterized my life up to ... College essay: The word successful can have different meaning to others, success can be measured on monetary worth, items you acquired over the years, people you've met, people you've procreated with starting a family, those very same people are the ones you know and love. Success isn't for all, some will fail trying ever so hard reaching for that pedestal of completion in life, it's the drive of life to compete therefore there is underlying drive to succeed. Although a roof over my head, food on the plate could be considered successful for some, I want to go above and beyond the bar. It's a good chance that won't happen but that does not mean it can't happen. If we as humans don't take chances we won't advance. We were evolved to take chances and if we don't take them we will never know what could have happened. • 23. The Importance Of Success In College Having a college education has a major impact on someone's career and future. Many people are either very successful or unsuccessful in their college careers. I believe college is difficult to successfully complete for many people. There are several reasons why I believe so. One reason I believe college is difficult to successfully complete is financial issues with the student. Another reason is because not all students are on the same educational level and some struggle more than others. The last reason I believe completing college successfully is difficult is because many students are unable to juggle being a full–time student and being able to work at the same time. First, finances can have a big impact on whether a student gets to attend college or not. For example, a very dedicated student can be denied access to a college because they are unable to pay upfront or by the due date. There are some people who are less fortunate than most people, but those less fortunate people seem to be the most eager to learn. Even with loans or financial aid available, not everyone can qualify for that help. Many people will enroll in college and pay their first payments but end up falling short on the rest of the payments thus causing them to be dropped from their classes. I can recall the time I was applying for the LVN program in Andrews run by OC. I was a 17–year–old high school graduate with no job experience whatsoever. • 25. Reflection Of Success In College One of the question on the board I'd like to respond to that was very early in the semester is what does success look like. My original response to this was, "There multiple ways to answer this. Success is being happy, but smiling is a look associated with happiness, but depressed people can smile and laugh too. So to answer what success actually looks like is someone who show's continuous genuine happiness. The best way to achieve that status is to have your stress levels at a minimum." After being in college for the rest of the semester I think for the most part my answer stays the same. I still believe success is when you are truly happy in the world you live in, but I can explain this a lot better. Success is when you don't have to worry about things in life anymore. When you don't have to work to get yourself out of bed in the morning and knowing what you have to face for the rest of the day. Success is when you can say to yourself, i'm glad that the things that I did in my past lead me to this point I am at now. To the new me that's what success looks like. It's not an easy thing to obtain but everyone can obtain it as long as the keep an optimistic view on life and remember to just keep moving forward. Another question I liked from the board that I jotted down was what works? My initial response to this was this. "Friends & partying helps a lot. It's so much relief but you have to keep it at a balance. Another thing that helped out a lot was teachers who curve or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Importance Of Students Success In College What are the factors that contribute to a student's success in college? Many people would say that it is up to them how well they do on college, because they are already young adults who already know their own responsibilities. But these answers are not factors that help student's success and their attitude are one of the circumstances that are missing from a student life, the support from their family members and close friends are a lack of confidence and motivation that can be given. In history, there has been cases in which one thing lead to another, meaning there are an infinity of things that can help or get it worst. Its time to change the world and give the opportunity to have some positive thoughts and stay away from all the negativity of other people, leading students to a new path that will end in a successful college experience. Even though students have challenging times because of diversity after decades they have many education opportunities, students should regulate their style of living because of the health issues that could came eventually, time management will help students survive throughout the courses, and character strengths will increase positive achievements on life. College Success Strategies Strategies for Succeeding in College College is a time unlike any other in our life, like high school, middle school, nor elementary school where students can just turn everything in at the end of the fourth quarter. College academics, especially in the first term, will be the most difficult because it is new material that students have never seen before. Plus, they'll be facing much higher expectations for performance and the expectation that they are the one responsible for their own motivation and success. Success And Success : The Benefits Of A College Success College Success According to the Web site collegeresults.org, only about 19% of students attending Thomas Nelson Community College graduate within three years. This low overall graduating percentage is very surprising. I intend on staying at TNCC, but I plan on graduating on time. Because a college education is important, I will become successful by listening to expert opinion, by developing effective strategies, and by overcoming my challenges. Most people will agree that a college education is important. According to Robert. S. Feldon, a psychology professor, a college education offers many benefits (29). One important benefit is that I will be more comfortable at thinking critically as well as communicating better. I will be able to analyze and solve problems by understanding how things are now verses how they will be. Another benefit is that I will be able to adapt to different and new situations. I will use the college culture, new challenges, and new experiences to better prepare for my future experiences. A third benefit is that I will be comfortable with leading a life of community service. Colleges provide opportunities in the community where I learn how to treat others with courtesy and respect while making my own contributions. Finally, I will be more comfortable living and working in a world of diversity by understanding others, their backgrounds, and how our cultures impact each other. My first choice school would have definitely met my personal requirements, but in the event that admission to this college was not granted to me my previously used checklist would be applied to my three options in order to determine the best school for me. A personal first on the college checklist is population size, classes with an average of twenty students or less are most desirable to me. Over the years small schools have become the norm, and moving to a college of the same nature would make the transition much easier. IIt would also ensure that I learned well in all of my classes. There is no way to make these all work without some sacrifice. I will have to dedicate time that I normally spend elsewhere to my studies. According to the plan that I have made, most of this sacrifice probably will come from the time I currently spend on hobbies. • 41. College Success For many years, the idea of success in life has been simple enough: a person embarks in school for twelve years, follows up with college, and that will lead to them having a successful life and career in adulthood. Meant to be a 'natural progression', for many, college was just the next step in life and simply made sense. There weren't many other choices to be made in that regard. You wanted a good life? You went to college. You wanted money? College. You do not want to work at McDonald's for the rest of your life? College. You want a guaranteed future? College. But this is, unsurprisingly, not an option and future open to many, but not to all and it is not so simple to come by for many. Social class, race, location, the type of education received, and an individual's personality all often play a part in a person's ability to get that 'next step' in life to better themselves. College success depends on how a student can apply their knowledge to the real world. College allows a student to explore different crafts and forge new skills. The power of both negative and positive impacts from our friends and peers affect us much more than we realize. Seeking out failure was another piece of advice given, simply because trying and failing will help you to readjust your course of action and try again faster than preparing (trying) for much longer to be 'sure,' when you may fail either way. Investing in yourself is one of the more immediate or tangible ways to live that this lecture brought to my attention.
