Poetic Style Of Alexander Pushkin
"Редеет облаков летучая гряда" Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding him during the Southern
exile in the city of Gurzuf, Crimea, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin writes a poem inspired by nature and the sight of ancient ruins. His work of art
reflects Pushkin's innovative style. Pushkin combines the sense of natural sublime with elegiac elements and introduces a new romantic form born in
the classical antiquity. Pushkin originally titled the poem "Таврическая звезда," yet later dropped the title to poem's first line
"Редеет облаков летучая гряда." The original title refers to a historical Taurida region in Crimea, named after the
ancient Greek name of Crimea "Taurida" where the young poet found inspiration while in exile. Pushkin uses 16–line stanzas in a couplet rhyme
aabbccddeeffggaa similar to a sonnet, by combining two lines into one with a rhyme he creates a flow that resembles a song close to the original form
of an elegy. Pushkin's style is unique. Pushkin morphs distinct romantic elements with natural sublime on the backbone of classical antiquity. Pushkin
directs the first lines towards an evening star. The star is the source of light in the darkness, symbolizing something mysterious, ancient, and divine. The
evening star sheds light on the deep love and thoughts that the author carries within himself. It is necessary to note that the author is the narrator who
addresses the evening star that is unnamed, and at the beginning of the poem

Robert Frost Duality
It is without a doubt that Robert Frost is one of the most famous and revered American poets of the 20th century, having been made distinct not only by
his lyrical poems but also by his kind grandfatherly appearance. However, it is important to note that despite this public image he conveys, or perhaps
the image that the public perceives, underneath Frost's seemingly light–themed works are indications of his darker, more contemplative themes. While
his poems are very lyrical to an almost melodic degree which lends a charming tone to them, close analysis of these reveals certain meanings that can
be considered as much deeper than the superficial message embodied in his words. In a way, it can be said that Robert Frost is a master of poetic duality
in the sense that whereas his works are light from the outside, they possess a dark meaning. Which can be seen in three of his works ... Show more

Three poems were used to illustrate this and each attests to the opposing nature of their literal and figurative meanings. In In a Disused Graveyard,
"Frost explores fact of mortality as opposed to the literal meaning of fooling the inanimate. In Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening," he ponders
escape from responsibility in contrast to a simple stopover beside woods. And finally, in Leaves Compared with Flowers, Frost intimates the
co–existence of light and dark moods in a person. Yet whereas one can identify certain meanings in his poems, it cannot be discounted that aspoetry,
Frost's works remain ambiguous which opens many doors to various interpretations. What is universal, nevertheless, is the co–existence of different
meanings which may range from the light and superficial to the dark and profound. It is this vulnerability to various interpretations that Frost's poems
prove to be haunting as it is

The Importance Of Art
Art forms a very intricate part of the evolution of our society. It is a popular means of preserving our heritage in visually striking images and paintings.
Artistic forms such as paintings also help to foster empathy in society from understanding the various emotions being expressed by any piece of art.
They also help to pass information about particular cultures and their unique characteristics, and this causes an increased overall understanding of each
other. Art is thus an important part of social life on this planet, and it is imperative that keen study is undertaken to establish the motivations for
creating a piece of artwork, the intended message to be passed by the art and the various environmental influences on the type and quality of the art.
Broadway on a rainy evening is one such painting that not only leaves an impression but also holds much significance to the evolutionary heritage of
New York City. The painting is watercolor based with gouache and pastel highlights over a piece of graphite paper. In the painting is astreet with
vehicles and people using the road and several buildings stretching to the horizon. The road is wet, and the air appears hazy and gloomy just like any
other rainy evening. The street is also lit with lamp posts and even by some shops along the street. Vehicles along the road pick up passengers as they
go. The buildings and lighting suggest that the painting represents Broadway Street during the early 1900s. This is also evident by the

Mark Strand's Use Of Praise In Poetry
In the poem "From a Litany" by Mark Strand, the world praise is used quite a bit. On the other hand in Jane Kenyon's "Let Evening Come", the word
'praise' is never used but is instead inferred in the poem. The word 'praise' can actually mean a variety of different things depending on the context;
here it is used to mean admiration. The two poems overlap in the sense that they have a feeling of letting go or a mellowing–out quality that gives the
reader a sense of sadness from the author. Both poems depict a scene of morning to night, or beginning of life to death; thought they have collected
after many long years on earth. Although the similarities are striking in both poems, there are both diverse in there own way. Both poem expressed
admirations for the small things in life. They both mention the sun, sky, and the ground specifically in their texts. For example in Strand poem he
says, "... I praise the sky... I praise the wind, the rising generations of air... I praise the clocks..." All of these things come into play in our daily lives so
why do they get so much attention from Strand? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Clean Well–Lighted Dark Place "A Clean, Well–Lighted Place" by Ernest Hemingway is a story that paints powerful images of desperation, light
and darkness, and nothingness. The author primarily about an old deaf man who is drunk late at night and gets more alcohol, preferably brandy at a
nearby well–lighted cafГ©. In this cafe a young waiter and an old waiter are running the place. They are having a conversation about the man who is
a regular customer at the cafe, and he comes in every night to drink and kill time. The young waiter, who is rude to the old man, is impatient and

The cafe is a "Clean, Well–Lighted Place." According to the short story, the old waiter said, "Each night I am reluctant to close up because there may
be someone who needs the cafe." The old man spends every evening at the same cafe until it closes. Because of this, the waiter realizes that his
cafe is more than just a place to eat and drink. It is a refuge from the darkness of the night outside. It's has given the old man the opportunity to
temporarily steer away from the dark side and into the light side. Darkness is a symbol of fear and loneliness whereas the light symbolizes comfort
and the company of others. There is hopelessness in the dark while the light renders a sense of comfort. The setting gives the reader an understanding
of why he was always lonely and the comfort that he received from the cafГ©. Unfortunately for the old man, this light is an artificial one, and its

Descriptive Essay On My Aunt's House
Every household has its own individual characteristics that make it functional, while portraying the family. For the private residential space, I decided
to focus on my aunt's house. The space has a slight rustic theme throughout and utilizes natural products in every room. I choose to focus on the kitchen
/dining room of this home because it is the center of this household where everyone tends to congregate. After walking through the entryway, one
enters the spacious kitchen/dining room. The walls are a warm oak wood throughout, except the top half in the dining room is a wallpaper. The
wallpaper has small burgundy starts in a repeated pattern on a cream background. The flooring is a brown, appears stone like, linoleum through the
entire space. The main color seen is brown through all the oak cabinetry and walls; the accent color is different shades of red, mainly deep red, which
is present in the stars on wallpaper and decorations throughout the area. The kitchen is well lit with a centered rectangular incandescent lighting fixture
with recessed incandescent can lighting above the island. The LED lighting underneath the wall cabinets is perfect for all the baking and cooking done
in the kitchen. The dining room has a large amount of daylight entering from all directions, yet has a simple incandescent chandelier for evening light.
The lighting all emits close to daylight giving a warm color light. Overall, the space is well lit and supplies both day and evening

Analysis Of How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Let Me Count...
"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." Elizabeth Barrett Browning said that in her poem "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." to
show her love for her unnamed husband. She shows just from that statement her love for him if she is willing to make a list solely for the ways she
love him. If that is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to love her unnamed husband. The
poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love
of God and put towards her love for him. Browning has just written about her obsession over her husband and how it seems to be a problem with her

If she only has candlelight then it should indicate that there is no light outside and that it is the evening. So her meaning behind the quote is that she
loves him from the morning to the evening. If that isn't enough to sound a bit weird for somebody to love another person everyday. Browning
obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much?
ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...ВЁ. The poem is a love poem, but at times Browning
has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for this man. The quote states the ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my
lost saints.ВЁ The love that she lost is almost certainly the of God. When she says ВЁlost saintsВЁ a saint is a person that has a likeness are
closeness to God. A person with exceptional holiness. So when she says that ВЁlost saintsВЁ it should mean her lost of love towards God. So when
Browning writes ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to loseВЁ then it should mean that she loves him more than God, because it seems like she has
replaced her love towards God and replaced it with her love towards him. Putting the man in her mind at a God like state or being. So if Browning

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay
Creationism is the theory that man, the earth, and the rest of the universe was originally created rather than randomly exploding from nothingness into
chance existence. We reside on the surface of a small superbly crafted, autonomous self regulating space vehicle. Together with survival, conquest and
death we bear witness to beauty, fragrances, love and music. Think about this. Mathematics, philosophy, springtime, depravity, farming, courtship,
quasars, and iphones; all came from nothingness?, formed by chance......?

TPCASTT Analysis For Evening Hawk
TPCASTT Analysis For Evening Hawk
Title Reading the title, Evening Hawk, this poem allows me to imagine a literal interpretation of the title; a hawk swooping and gliding with the sky
streaked of scarlet red in the background. I believe this poem will be filled with imagery as the majestic creature flaps its large wings maybe hunting
its prey or just enjoying the cooling air.
Paraphrase
The first stanza sets the setting for the arrival of the hawk in the evening. It describes the time of day talking about shadows and last light. The end of
the stanza talks about the hawk arriving. The second stanza describes the hawk itself using elaborate descriptions and imagery. Its wing is put into
focus as it is described as a sharp edge that is cutting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning, the hawk and its surroundings are described in vivid imagery; however, that changes in the end when the light of day disappears
and the warning of human errors comes into play. Splitting the poem into its six stanzas would be the easiest way to analyze the tone of each
stanza which would help understand the attitude of the entire poem. In the first stanza, the poem is calm but near the end, when it says, "The
hawk comes," it feels like the calm before a storm. The next stanza is more majestic describing a hawk swooping and soaring, with a wing and
motion so sharp, it metaphorically cuts down stalks of time. Stanza number three is the one line stanza, a line full of meaning however. This is
where the poem shifts from a positive attitude to a negative, warning attitude as it speaks of human errors. The next paragraph shows the hawk
having no regard, an unforgiving world, shifting the poem even deeper into warning. However, as the sun sets and the hawk is replaced with an
image of a bat, he is still powerful. The attitude is much calmer. Finally, ending the poem off, it talks about how if we as humans listen, we could hear
everything, accenting another one of our errors. "Evening Hawk" is a poem thats attitude can be described as powerful as the image of the hawk is
powerful, and the meaning behind the hawk is powerful as

Duy Huynh’S Work Has Inspired People For Years And Is Known
Duy Huynh's work has inspired people for years and is known to make a lasting impression on people at first glance. His inspiration mainly comes
from ancient folklore and comic books. While much of his work is deeply personal, his clever and often times humorous use of symbolism and
wordplay invites the viewer to create their own storyline. There is one painting from his collections that stood out to me more than any other painting
he did, it was called "Evening Echos". Evening Echoes painting contains hidden meanings within the artwork to enhance the overall experience for the
person viewing the painting. His purpose for this painting to show the viewer the story behind the women in the painting.

In came to this conclusion, by the way arranged the butterflies and having the trumpet the arranged to be circular form. In addition, the moon also plays
a key factor in the painting because it is representing a cycle as well. The moon's cycle is to come up at night and go down in the morning. I believe
the women is kind of letting life past her by because she is standing in one position with her eyes close to maybe indicate that she not making herself
present during the process of the cycle. The artist chose to highlight her, the trumpet, the moon, and the butterflies by lighting the background
surrounding them and also chose bright colors to color in the objects.
This painting contains a lot of key objects within it that helped express the moral of the painting. One key element of the painting was the moon, the
moon was used to represent a cycle, in my opinion. The moon represents the passing of time and embodies its cycle. The moon has different phrases
throughout the years and its surface interchanges between light and dark. The light side I believe represents immortality and source of light and hope
during night time. The alternative side of the moon represents the gorier side of the night. I believe that the moon in this picture, with connection to the
girl, that she experiencing source of hope or promise because the moon is completely light.

Essay on James Joyce's Dubliners: Two Gallants
In "Two Gallants," the sixth short story in the Dubliners collection, James Joyce is especially careful and crafty in his opening paragraph. Even the
most cursory of readings exposes repetition, alliteration, and a clear structure within just these nine lines. The question remains, though, as to what the
beginning of "Two Gallants" contributes to the meaning and impact of Joyce's work, both for the isolated story itself and for Dubliners as a whole. The
construction, style, and word choice of this opening, in the context of the story and the collection, all point to one of Joyce's most prevalent implicit
judgments: that the people of Ireland refuse to make any effort toward positive change for themselves.
(1)The grey warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Circularity is also evident when the beginning of the story is compared with the final paragraph. Consider the alliteration in lines 3–4: "summer,"
"streets," "shuttered," "Sunday," and "swarmed" and the ending (p. 71), where the "s" sound is repeated once again: "stared," "smiling," slowly,"
"small," and "shone." In addition, the image of a lamp plays a key role in each situation: to expose the "shape and hue" of the crowd in the opening
(lines 4–6) and to expose the sovereign Corley holds in the final scene.
In "Two Gallants," Joyce uses circularity to point out a lack of real change in the situation he has presented. This concept sets up the scene as something
essentially static –– even the constantly "changing shape and hue" is reduced to a "murmur" when taken as a group (lines 7, 9). Likewise, the purpose
Joyce intends for the story is exposed by the fact that its central action –– trading sexual favors for the slave–girl's salary –– is just a matter of course
for the main characters. As the two men acknowledge,
Ecod! Corley, you know how to take them, he [Lenehan] said.
I'm up to all their little tricks, Corley confessed. (p. 63)
Even though Corley essentially steals money from an innocent woman, this "action" is merely an expression of the fact that both he and Lenehan
remain the same shallow creatures of habit they were at the beginning of the story.
Much like its

The Chalk Pit
The poems 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' by Robert Frost and 'The Chalk Pit' by Edward Thomas both convey a sense of place in their
meaning. 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' is about how the narrator stops outside the snow
–filled woods to admire the scenery along with
his horse. The narrator does not stay for long as he has 'promises to keep'. 'The Chalk Pit' involves the conversation of two people about a chalk pit
nearby. Speaker A adds a lot of imagination to the conversation while Speaker B is more plainspoken and mundane. The theme of the two poems is
of nature and place. In 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' the narrator is captivated by the scenery of the woods in Winter time. The conveys

The heavy, definite tone of the last stanza reveals to the reader that the narrator has to unfortunately leave the scene, not out of want but out of need
and he has human obligations to attend to. This conveys to the reader that the snowy woods are captivating and the speaker reacts in a way that
suggests the woods appeal to him. Where as, the tone of 'The Chalk Pit' is conversational and familiar throughout the whole stanza. This conveys to the
reader that the chalk pit is a talking point amongst passers–by and that it is intriguing. In 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' the language is
simple and understandable. This conveys to the reader the individual nature of the place in simple terms. For example, 'To watch his woods fill up
with snow.' This portrays to the reader that it is Winter and that the woods are experiencing the cold weather. The narrator says, 'The woods are lovely,
dark and deep.' The words have been juxtaposed i.e. words have been put together that wouldn't normally be used together, for effect. This conveys to
the reader that the speaker finds the woods pretty and also suggests that the speaker thinks the woods look mysterious and haunting. In the first stanza
there is sibilance of 'stopping' and 'snow'. This 's' sound alliteration achieves softness and

Comparison of Toadstool Wood and Snowy Wood
'The toadstool wood' describes a woodland at twilight. Everything is quiet and dark. Reeves describes the woods as if it is hoary and inactive, I
know this because in the poem he says 'mouldy'. He also says 'arching sprays of bramble' which means there would be alot of cultivation as well in
the wood. On the other the poem, 'stopping by Woods on a snowy evening' has the setting of a man on horse back stopping by the woods for a rest
when he is on a long journey. Frost describes these woods as if it is glacial and gloomy, I know this because in the poem he says 'The darkest evening
of the year'. This would also means that it is frightening. There are many common things between these two poems. Firstly both poems scenes are set in

The narrator knows the owner of the woods and knows where he lives but then he says, 'he will not see me stopping here'. Why will the owner of
the woods not see the narrator stopping by? Then the narrator says 'my little horse must think it queer, to stop without a farmhouse near', so that
means his horse thinks it is very odd, to stop when there is no farmhouse near. So why did the narrator stop then? This is another example of the
mystery the poem evokes. The author describes the woods as if it is very scary. I know this because he says 'the woods are lovely, dark and deep'. I
think he was being sarcastic when he said 'lovely'. 'Dark and deep' would mean that the woods had a lack of light and that it was very big and you
could get lost in it. In this poem the narrator still has miles to travel in his journey because on the last two lines he says 'and miles to go before I
sleep'. Where is the narrator's destination? This poem has an AABArhyme scheme. Frost has added alliteration 'dark and deep' and he uses
onomatopoeia 'the only other sound's the sweep, of easy wind and downy flake.' Overall this poem created a more powerful sense of mystery than the
toadstool wood, which means it has created more suspense. I can see more mystery in this poem other than toadstool wood. I have given examples.
Both poems employ striking imagery to create a powerful sense of place. Reeves describes the toadstool wood as an isolated quite place,

Art: Comparison and Contrast of 19th Century Art Essay
Everyone has been created unique and there is no other that is the like anyone else. People think different, dress different and like and dislike certain
things. This is similar to the artists of the nineteenth century including Pierre Etienne Theodore Rousseau and Joseph Mallord William Turner. They
are both artists during the nineteenth century and were painted at the same time; however, there is a difference between their styles, their point of
view, and the scenery. However there are similarities between the two paintings. The paintings that will be compared and contrasted are "Under the

"Under"). One could mistake that the focal point is the little figure under the birch tree who is a priest. However, the main point in this landscape
is all about the birches. The reason why one could say so is because of all the visual elements such as: the birches are in the middle of the painting;
they are also the most lighted objects in the painting (light is shining in the form of an oval) (National Gallery). Due to the levels of lightning one
can see that the picture is divided into three horizontal parts: the top (dark, but not as dark as the bottom of the painting); the middle is the
lightest; and the bottom is the darkest. This means that he used what he learned about the Dutch style and mixed it with his personal style thus we
have a whole new way of seeing his point of view. The second painting, "The Campo Santo, Venice", was done by Joseph Mallord William Turner.
He was born in London on April 23, 1775. Turner was interested in painting water subjects as well as landscapes ("Biography for"). He was
educated at the Royal Academy of Arts where he developed his way of expressing natural light on the paintings, thus his style is seen as
impressionistic. It is said that his father has been selling Turner's paintings at his own shop from1 to 3 shillings which may have influenced his
decision to have the boy educated as a painter. Turner's artistic style best progress was during 1835–45. It is also a time during which he painted "The

Explain Why It Is Important To Stay Indoors During The...
As spring and summer start to roll around, that means the weather is going to start getting hotter. For seniors, excessive heat can be deadly. The
elderly are generally more sensitive to extreme heat than their younger counterparts. Here are a few precautions to keep in mind as you work as a
caregiver to seniors in order to help them stay safe and avoid complications such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. #1 Stay Indoors During The
Hottest Period Of The Day Although it can feel great to get outside and enjoy the summer sunshine, be strategic about when you take the seniors you
work with outside. Going outside during the heat of the day can easily tire your charges out. Try to arrange your schedule so that you take the seniors

This will help keep them cool. #4 Stay Well Hydrated Many health issues in the summer time are related to dehydration. It is important to keep in
mind that your clients may not be aware that they need to drink water. As one's body ages, it does not always send one the same signals to drink
when the body needs water. In order to avoid health complications, it is vital that your clients are well hydrated. You can encourage them and help
them stay hydrated by always keeping a pitch of water near your clients or a water bottle nearby. If the seniors you work with do not like regular
water, add a little flavor by putting some fresh fruit into their water. Try to avoid serving them both caffeinated and alcoholic drinks during the
summer, as both types of drinks can make one dehydrated. The key to helping the seniors you work with surviving the spring and summer is to be
very aware of when you arrange for them to go outside, keeping an eye on the clothing they put on, and by keeping water near them at all

In many writer's and poet's creations , there is a debate of does their work have an affinity for either the light and benevolence element, or the dark and

Frost's work spark these debates, and the answer is because of conflict and duality. Robert Frost's work does not venture into one world, and lives out

The first day. The very beginning of everything, in this old world. The beginning of time, the beginning of history. The beginning of all the happiness

mist that has held close to the ocean begins to rise. All night and all the next morning it goes up, up, up until it becomes a beautiful fleecy white
covering high above the world. Between it and the water below there is clear, fresh air, forming the atmosphere.. "And God said, "Let there be a vault
between the waters to separate water from water." So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was
so. God called the vault "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning–the second day."

Daylight Savings
Why do we practice daylight saving times? I ask this question because I don't understand how it benefits us or help us. Why is it important? I
realize that every time during spring I reset my clock. During fall I reset my clock again. Why do we have to reset our clocks during those seasons?
The reason it began was to help conserve or save energy when people would get up in the dark before sunrise to do work. Who created daylight
saving times? Furthermore, how did daylight saving times start? We practice daylight saving times because it helps us to make better use of the natural
daylight hours. By adjusting the time, it allows us to do more things by daylight than had we kept to the same time all year; consequently, the amount
of energy is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

created daylight saving times? According to Chris Klein, author of "8 Things You May Not Know About Daylights Saving Time" reported that a
78 year old American in Paris in 1784 thought of the idea of daylight saving times after he was awoken at 6 am from the sunlight. He wrote an
essay in which he calculated that people could save 200 million dollars and after the result of the essay Benjamin Franklin was given the honor of
inventing daylight saving times. What are the benefits or drawbacks of Daylight Savings Time? The benefits of DST is that some people say that it
saves energy, promotes outdoor activities, and allows for more fun activity in the evening during the summer months, and is, therefore, good for your
physical and psychological health. It can help to reduce traffic accidents, reduces crime, or is good for business. The people or groups that tend to
promote DST are primarily small business owners, those that are active in outdoor sports and tourism operators, and others who benefit from
increased light during the evening in summer. My Mom says she likes it when she is able to gain an hour in her

Ptolemy's geocentric model explained that the planets moved backwards because the planets moved around in small orbit called the epicycle that
revolved in much larger circles around Earth. 17) How did Copernicus' heliocentric model explain why the planets sometimes move backwards?
Copernicus heliocentric model explained that the planets sometimes move backwards by coming up with the idea that Earth and all the other
planets circled the sun. He also concluded that if a planet was closer to the sun the great the orbital speed it would have. Kepler's 3rd law, p^2 = a^3,
applies to all objects orbiting our Sun. In this law p is the period of time it takes an object to orbit the Sun, as measured in years, and a is the
semi–major axis of this planet's orbit (its average distance to the Sun), as measured in AU.Using algebra we can solve for either p = a^(3/2) or a = p^(2

Essay about Does “Day” Mean a 24-Hour Period or Ages?
INTERPRETIVE QUESTIONS
Does "day" mean a 24–hour period or ages?
Neither here nor in verses 14–18 is an original creative act implied. A different word is used. The sense is, made to appear; made visible. The sun and
moon were created "in the beginning." The "light" of course came from the sun, but the vapor diffused the light. Later the sun appeared in an
unclouded sky. Genesis 1:5 – And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. The
word "day" is used in Scripture in three ways:
(1) That part of the solar day of twenty–four hours which is light (Genesis 1:5, Genesis 1:14, John 9:4, 11:4).
(2) Such a day, set apart for some distinctive purpose, as, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Circumstance found myself out on a rural bridge watching the shadows grow longer as I photographed each passing VIA train one summer

more interesting, memorable and unique photographs. STANDING IN THE DARK This same bridge would later serve as a location to do

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Winter Evening Settles Down '
T.S Eliot's poem, "The winter evening settles down" is a short, simple to read poem with several different examples of imagery. Eliot uses descriptive
words, for instance, "withered leaves", "broken blinds", and "lonely cab–horse" (lines 7–10). He paints an extremely bleak image of a town that seems
to be deserted of people. The tone of the poem plays hand–in–hand with the imagery used. This town is an unpleasant place where it has seemed to be
neglected for some years now. Eliot's use of imagery takes the reader to this deserted, torpid place; however, at the same time, his goal is to bring the
life back into this grim town.
As stated prior, the town being described in the poem has a very dull and gloomy feel that surrounds it. The first line reads, "the winter evening settles
down." By personifying winter, the reader is able to have a visual idea of what is currently happening in this fallen town. After reading this line one is
able to make the inference that the setting of this poem is the winter season. A winters day can start off beautiful and seem magical, however, when the
day comes to an end and the snow slowly starts to melt and everything becomes disgusting. Eliot is slowly painting an eerie scene in just the first line
of the poem. There is also an underlying feeling of exhaustion and boredom described throughout this poem. "The burnt–out ends of smoky days" (line
4) causes the reader to visualize perhaps the burnt out end of a cigarette. The fire is gone at the

Today, humanity replaces everything. If something is broken, worn out, or sometimes even dirty it is discarded and replaced with something brand
new. There are stories of perfectly good earth moving machines being left inside of coal mines that are still in working order simply because it's too
much work to get those machines back out and it may be cheaper on the company to leave it there than to bring it back out. Generations before saved
everything, many times even if it was broken. My parents have in their attic, right now, the first set of worn out tires from my 1987 Firebird. These

imagery is used to convey the meaning, Warren use of words creates a sense of sadness, and darkness. The hidden message within the poem can be
discern through his use of words and the mood he creates through the description of every object Robert mentions a hawk that symbolizes death, and
how humanity tends to ignore it. Part of Roberts's diction is using imagery, so that the reader can open up their imagination to what is going on in the
poem itself. Just in the first stanza he starts off mentioning a plane in the sky, "From plane of light to plane, wings dipping through Geometries and
orchids that the sunset builds" (1–2) which by reading the poem, you can interpret that the plane flying in the sky symbolizes the life of a human. After
describing the plane in the sky he mentions a hawk "out of the peak's black angularity of shadow riding. The last tumultuous avalanche of light above

and the outside world begin?"; "Where and when do you most enjoy the quality of light in your home"; "Have you ever been in transit between two
homes?" These questions get viewers thinking about connections to their own experiences, and also serve as a summary of the label itself. One of
the art pieces that were being focused on was Walter Henry Williams' oil on canvas painting, "A Quick Nap". His piece titled ' A Quick Nap ' stood
out to me along my browse throughout the museum. Its interesting color scheme grabbed me; I believed there was a tale to the story.
The lightly glossed, oil painted canvas depicts a little girl dozing by the red railing of a fire escape above the city streets. The little girl is seen to be
resting her head on her right hand, napping. Walter Williams contrasts the curves of the girl's soft pink dress with the hard grid of the ironwork and
straight lines of the window that reflects similar fire escapes across the street. A rooftop water tower is outlined against the haze of the evening sky,
and a skylight punctures the roof below.
The fire escape became more than an emergency exit in a burning building. It is used for everything from outdoor to dining to sleeping and gardening,
opening up the home to the surrounding city like a "porch in the sky" or "private get–away".
I gazed at the little girl in the foreground; the reflecting glass in the mid–ground, and the evening sky in the background. The painting is sized at about
24 inches by 30 inches.
While observing this painting, several questions came to mind, like a bulb became lit. Questions about the sky, the dress, the sun, the reflection in the
door, and the rooftop water tank were formed in my mind. I even wondered where Williams was while observing.
The pink dress being worn by the little girl appears to have the softest color, it is light cool and comfortable, which is most compelling and contrasting
being the only curves in the frame.
The sun is low in the skyline showing the time of day, possibly early evening and at the same time sets the tone for the artwork. I can imagine an
evening with a full household of at least 5 including the little girl. She has retreated to her place of tranquil and serenity.

In a Dark Night, I Find My Answers. The two poems "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "Acquainted with the Night" written by
Robert Frost are very similar to each other because of the simplistic form of language used and the uses of metaphors. When we first read the poem,
it looks like an ordinary poem but once we go in depth and understand the meaning, it becomes so much more. Both of the poem has a very dark,
gloomy and lonely setting with a really mysterious tone. There are different metaphors used in each poem to symbolize death; "Sleep" in "Stopping

"I have walked out in rain –– and back in rain." from "Acquainted with the Night" shows the depression of the character because most of us relate to
rain as an emotional moment and makes us feel vulnerable. When it rains, the whole atmosphere becomes very gloomy and sad, and the author is
trying to express the characters sadness.
The character in "Stopping by Woods in a Snowy Evening" is a very old fashioned person because he is with a horse and rides his horse through the
woods. "My little horse must think it queer. To stop without a farmhouse near– Between the woods and frozen lake" shows how even his horse is
surprised to be stopping in the middle of the woods where there is no livelihood. It is very unusual even for the horse to stop at this hour of the
night because they should be trying to get home as soon as possible since it is already dark. "He gives his harness bells a shake. To ask if there is
some mistake." express how the horse is also very attentive about what is going on around him and his master's unusual behavior. The horse tries to
confirm with the character whether or not they have stopped in the right place.
"I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet. When far away an interrupted cry. Came over houses from another street. But not to call me back or
say good–bye," from "Acquainted With the Night" shows that the character is looking for a sign for him to look back but it was not

How Did The Light Bulb Affect Society
The first successful light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879, little did he know that his invention would change the world and still has
affects to this day. There are many reasons why the light bulb was the best invention of the Industrial revolution, three reasons why are; it changed
human existence by illuminating the night. Another one is that it helped improve economics by making days longer. The last one is it improved
education, people began to read more and learning facilities had later classes. The light bulb was definitely not the only invention from the Industrial
revolution but it was the one to have the biggest impact on society.
The Light bulb changed the lives of many people; it had a big impact on illuminating the night. The night was always dark until the light bulb was
invented by Thomas Edison in 1879 and ever since then, the night has been able to be bright if people wanted it too. The story of the light bulb
begins long before Edison patented the first commercially successful bulb in 1879; in 1800 Italian inventor Alessandro Volta developed the first
practical method of generating electricity, the voltaic pile, made of alternating discs of zinc and copper, the pile conducted electricity when a copper

In the poem "Evening Hawk" Robert Penn Warren symbolizes death with a hawk that is oblivious to time and error. Through strong diction and
imagery, Warren illustrates a timeless scene of a merciless predator reaping the life out of the corrupt and greedy human race. The title of the poem
gives an initial feeling of the timelessness of the scene by describing the day of time as just another "evening." The diction used is quite dark and
almost cynical as Warren sets the scene at sunset, the lastlight of the day, and describes it [the light] as a "tumultuous avalanche" as if the light is
something that one struggles through the way one struggles through life. Warren also describes the way in which the hawk ends the day

Glenn Irwin's "Two Butterflies" demonstrates a movement in age and development of experience through the images of two distinct butterflies. The
ideas Irwin articulates about age and experience with this imagery also serve to show the disconnect between nature and civilization over time. The
poem is divided into two stanzas: morning and evening. Likewise, there are two butterflies: morning and evening. The morning butterfly has only just
completed his transition stage. He is faced with the beginning of life and the task to make a connection to civilization. The evening butterfly is well
into her final life stage. She has gone through the experiences the morning butterfly has not; her connection with civilization has been previously

touch," and "struggling to open" his wings (2–3, 6, 7–8). His body is unknown to him, he has "useless legs" and is compared to a "drunk on a pony"
(4, 5). He has yet to use his legs, to open and dry his wings, and to fly. In order to have those experiences he must make a connection with civilization.

Landscape With Aqueduct
For this paper I have selected two landscapes; the first painting is Evening: Landscape with an Aqueduct by Theodore Gericault from the 19th century,
which showcases a fairly bright and colorful presentation of a landscape. The landscape depicts ruins from the Italian countryside and is part of a set
of four paintings depicting different times of day. I chose this particular landscape because I enjoyed the feelings of hope and optimism that the painting
inspires out of the viewer. My second piece is View of Toledo by El Greco from the 16th century, which is much darker and is composed of a only a

Toledo itself is defined and is very much distinct from the surrounding vegetation and hills. The light blue coloring of these structures has no similarity
with any of the natural components except for the lighter clouds towards the top portions of the painting. This presents Toledo as separate from the
natural world, there appears to no direct interaction asides from being around the natural world. In fact, below that wall there is simply green
vegetation and a fence at the bottom of the river. This all stands in stark contrast the work of Gericault. Gericault's piece shows the natural world and
man–made structures as intermingling with the natural components of the painting. For example, even the compound shows several tall trees within its
confines. The structure on the far left shows it being consumed by vegetation. Whereas El Greco, makes every structure a separate entity sharing no
color with the surrounding natural world, the exception of course being the clouds. This makes the structures to simply be in the world and not
necessarily interacting with the natural component. Perhaps, this lack of interaction and the existence of an approaching storm show a negative

Imagery is an important form of figurative language, They help a poet to accomplish their vision while appealing to all five senses; sight, hearing,
touch, taste, and smell. The poet is able to evoke the emotions that accompany these sensations. Primary purposes of imagery in poetry is to help create

Evening Concert, Saint-Chapelle, By Updike
Updike's depiction of a concert in "Evening Concert, Saint–Chapelle" reveals that music has the power to sustain life. Using a theme of power, Updike
suggest that music is similar to the human heart because both are powerhouses of their bodies. Updike begins the poem by outlining what he is
comparing. "The celebrated windows flamed with light". Updike's first object used in the comparison is life because he depicts the windows
coming to life with the light. By separating this scene from the scene of the concert, Updike makes the windows an individual concept. Because he
chose to use the word "flamed", Updike suggest that this individual concept is life. Similar to how a flame gives life to a fire, the light gives life to
the windows and makes them a symbol for life. To establish the concert as its own concept, Updike states "Then violins vaunting Vivaldi's strident
strengths, then Brahms, seemed to suck with their passionate sweetness, bit by bit, the vigor from the red, the blazing blue." The violins are the
heartbeat of the concert, so the concert was given life and made an individual. Updike makes this clear by giving the description of the violins sucking
the red and blue which are the colors of blood. Unoxygenated blood is blue,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The music of the concert, or the heart of the concert, is keeping the life of the windows sustained. This direct link between the concert and life
reveals that music gives us life. The music is what keep the "fantasy", or one's life, alive. Updike states, "until our beating hearts, our violins were
cased in thin but solid sheets of lead," which shows that the wonder keeping everything going last until death. When a violin is encased in a sheet of
lead, it is no longer able to be played; therefore, the music and the wonder die. Since Updike made the violins a symbol of our hearts, he reveals that

That Evening Sun: Literary Analysis Essay
"That Evening Sun" by William Faulkner is a good example of a great emotional turmoil transferred directly to the readers through the words of a
narrator who does not seem to grasp the severity of the turmoil. It is a story of an African American laundress who lives in the fear of her
common–law husband Jesus who suspects her of carrying a white man's child in her womb and seems hell bent on killing her.
Many critics refer to "That Evening Sun" as one of the finest examples of narrative point of view. The story is told by Quentin Compson, whose voice
Faulkner utilizes at two distinct times in the boy's life. First, we have 24–year–old Quentin remembering a 15–year–old episode concerning Nancy's
fear of Jesus. This introductory point of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the short story several symbols appear. Mr. Stovell for example who is an illustration of both the economic system, he is a cashier at the
bank, and the religious institutions, he is a Baptist deacon, of the South, refuses to pay Nancy for her services. Stovell is representative of all the bad
in the South, and how the White take advantage of the Blacks, and don't get punished for it; he represents both the wealthy and the religious.
Another symbol is certainly the way that Faulkner uses dark and light in the story. For Nancy "that evening sun'' represents the danger that her
absent lover presents to her. Jesus whose name is likely an ironic joke on Faulkner's part represents danger and violence to Nancy, and he will wait
until night has come to fall upon her. When it is light she feels safer, but once the darkness hits, danger is represented. The title of "That Evening Sun"
refers to a popular black spiritual that begins, "Lordy, how I hate to see that evening sun go down," which implies that once the sun sets, death is sure
to follow.
In conclusion, William Faulkner's stories deal with a plethora of human problems, while at the same time they focus on social conflicts and
misunderstanding. In, "That Evening Sun" this can all be clearly seen, as he focuses on one of the most urgent problems of that

Analysis Of Home Burial By Robert Frost
Robert Frost poetry essay
'Meaningful discoveries can offer opportunities to change the course of an individual's life, physically, spiritually or emotionally.'
How is this view of discovery represented in your prescribed text and at least ONE other text of your choosing?
For an individual's life to under–go meaningful discoveries of a physical, spiritual or emotional nature, one must make use of the opportunities that life
presents them with. This notion is outstandingly exemplified through poet Robert Frost's poetry, specifically poems 'Home Burial' and 'Stopping by
Woods on a Snowy Evening'. Through the context of these poems as well as the placement of poetic devices, emotional, spiritual, and self–discoveries
are brought to light.
Frost's 'Home Burial' effectively presents emotional discoveries through reactions of a dramatis personae to the same revelation. Frost's text
encompasses a husband and wife whose melancholia over their deceased baby has essentially contributed to the destruction of their marriage. The
hostile nature of their marriage is alluded to in the double entendre in the title, "Home Burial." The use of double entendre elicts to the literal burial of
the baby in the home of the broken family. Additionally, the esoteric interpretations construct the proposal a baby has not only been buried, but a
marriage along with it. Through the progression of the poem, it is validated that although the catalyst of the spousal's problems is the loss of their

The title of the poem is "Evening Hawk" and the word evening implies the end– a day coming to a close. But, the day is transformed into all of time
through other figurative language in the poem. Beginning in stanza one, Warren depicts the "sunset build[ing]" as "The last tumultuous avalanche of
light" breaks through the pines (Warren 2, 4–5). Like evening, sunset implies the end of a day as the light leaves the earth and darkness encloses.
However, as the "sunset builds", light that breaks through the trees is the "last" bit of light before the hawk comes. The word "last" suggests there is
no more to come– ever. Not only is it the last ray of light, it is a "tumultuous avalanche of light" creating the image of a rough mountain in the mind of
the reader. This mountain reveals how the author recognizes that he has reached the climax of his life and is on a quick downward fall toward death–
the end of time is near. Furthermore, a "tumultuous avalanche" insinuates urgency in the tone of the author revealing how he is trying to warn readers
that the end is closer than previously thought. In stanza two, Warren continues to indicate the end is approached through the "crashless fall of stalks
of Time" as the hawk "Scythes down another day" (Warren 9, 7). Literally, time is compared to stalks of grain in a field and as they fall there are not as

Daylight Saving Time
Why do we have daylight saving time? So the main reason we have daylight savings time is to make better use of daylight. So instead of having an
hour of daylight in the morning, we get an hour moved to the evening. Some countries have different change dates. If you live near the equator the
day time and night time are the same. But if you live near the poles, you have more daylight in the summer time. Another reason why we have
daylight saving times is because a lot of people like to enjoy a long summer evening. Plus it is supposed to save you money on your power bill. Also
you can relax more if you like to sit outside when it starts to get darker since it will get darker a little faster. The very first campaign for daylight

William Wordsworth's Views Of Nature : Nature As An...
Nature as an Unconventional Teacher One of the many core tenets of the Romantic Period was the love and admiration of nature and its power.
However, the way each romantic poet approached this idea varied extensively from their respective views and interpretations of nature. William
Wordsworth, one of major pioneers of the Romantics, viewed nature from his own philosophical viewpoint as a formative influence superior to all.
He believed in the education of man by Nature which was a prominent theme in his poems "Expostulation and Reply" and "The Tables Turned." In
"Expostulation and Reply" and "The Tables Turned," Wordsworth's use of natural imagery, metaphorical imagery, and criticism of conventional
learning elevates the speaker's message of learning from nature over academia. Wordsworth's utilizes natural imagery in "The Tables Turned" and
lack thereof in "Expostulation and Reply" to heighten nature's superiority in contrast to scholarly learning. The first line of the "The Tables Turned"
the speaker urges his Friend to "quit [their] books" (1) and escape the "toil and trouble" of reading. In stanza two of "The Tables Turned," the
speaker use of natural imagery paints a picture of the magnifice seen in nature when describing a beautiful evening scene of "A freshening lustre
mellow /. . . all the long green fields /. . . first sweet evening yellow" (6–8). The content of the second stanza after the first is applied in such a way to
suggest the speaker is describing the

Poetic Style Of Alexander Pushkin

  • 1. Poetic Style Of Alexander Pushkin "Редеет облаков летучая РіСЂСЏРґР°" Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding him during the Southern exile in the city of Gurzuf, Crimea, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin writes a poem inspired by nature and the sight of ancient ruins. His work of art reflects Pushkin's innovative style. Pushkin combines the sense of natural sublime with elegiac elements and introduces a new romantic form born in the classical antiquity. Pushkin originally titled the poem "Таврическая звезда," yet later dropped the title to poem's first line "Редеет облаков летучая РіСЂСЏРґР°." The original title refers to a historical Taurida region in Crimea, named after the ancient Greek name of Crimea "Taurida" where the young poet found inspiration while in exile. Pushkin uses 16–line stanzas in a couplet rhyme aabbccddeeffggaa similar to a sonnet, by combining two lines into one with a rhyme he creates a flow that resembles a song close to the original form of an elegy. Pushkin's style is unique. Pushkin morphs distinct romantic elements with natural sublime on the backbone of classical antiquity. Pushkin directs the first lines towards an evening star. The star is the source of light in the darkness, symbolizing something mysterious, ancient, and divine. The evening star sheds light on the deep love and thoughts that the author carries within himself. It is necessary to note that the author is the narrator who addresses the evening star that is unnamed, and at the beginning of the poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Robert Frost Duality It is without a doubt that Robert Frost is one of the most famous and revered American poets of the 20th century, having been made distinct not only by his lyrical poems but also by his kind grandfatherly appearance. However, it is important to note that despite this public image he conveys, or perhaps the image that the public perceives, underneath Frost's seemingly light–themed works are indications of his darker, more contemplative themes. While his poems are very lyrical to an almost melodic degree which lends a charming tone to them, close analysis of these reveals certain meanings that can be considered as much deeper than the superficial message embodied in his words. In a way, it can be said that Robert Frost is a master of poetic duality in the sense that whereas his works are light from the outside, they possess a dark meaning. Which can be seen in three of his works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three poems were used to illustrate this and each attests to the opposing nature of their literal and figurative meanings. In In a Disused Graveyard, "Frost explores fact of mortality as opposed to the literal meaning of fooling the inanimate. In Stopping By Woods On a Snowy Evening," he ponders escape from responsibility in contrast to a simple stopover beside woods. And finally, in Leaves Compared with Flowers, Frost intimates the co–existence of light and dark moods in a person. Yet whereas one can identify certain meanings in his poems, it cannot be discounted that aspoetry, Frost's works remain ambiguous which opens many doors to various interpretations. What is universal, nevertheless, is the co–existence of different meanings which may range from the light and superficial to the dark and profound. It is this vulnerability to various interpretations that Frost's poems prove to be haunting as it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Art Art forms a very intricate part of the evolution of our society. It is a popular means of preserving our heritage in visually striking images and paintings. Artistic forms such as paintings also help to foster empathy in society from understanding the various emotions being expressed by any piece of art. They also help to pass information about particular cultures and their unique characteristics, and this causes an increased overall understanding of each other. Art is thus an important part of social life on this planet, and it is imperative that keen study is undertaken to establish the motivations for creating a piece of artwork, the intended message to be passed by the art and the various environmental influences on the type and quality of the art. Broadway on a rainy evening is one such painting that not only leaves an impression but also holds much significance to the evolutionary heritage of New York City. The painting is watercolor based with gouache and pastel highlights over a piece of graphite paper. In the painting is astreet with vehicles and people using the road and several buildings stretching to the horizon. The road is wet, and the air appears hazy and gloomy just like any other rainy evening. The street is also lit with lamp posts and even by some shops along the street. Vehicles along the road pick up passengers as they go. The buildings and lighting suggest that the painting represents Broadway Street during the early 1900s. This is also evident by the ... • 4. Mark Strand's Use Of Praise In Poetry In the poem "From a Litany" by Mark Strand, the world praise is used quite a bit. On the other hand in Jane Kenyon's "Let Evening Come", the word 'praise' is never used but is instead inferred in the poem. The word 'praise' can actually mean a variety of different things depending on the context; here it is used to mean admiration. The two poems overlap in the sense that they have a feeling of letting go or a mellowing–out quality that gives the reader a sense of sadness from the author. Both poems depict a scene of morning to night, or beginning of life to death; thought they have collected after many long years on earth. Although the similarities are striking in both poems, there are both diverse in there own way. Both poem expressed admirations for the small things in life. They both mention the sun, sky, and the ground specifically in their texts. For example in Strand poem he says, "... I praise the sky... I praise the wind, the rising generations of air... I praise the clocks..." All of these things come into play in our daily lives so why do they get so much attention from Strand? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Clean Well-Lighted Dark Place By Ernest Hemingway Amaan Maredia English 1302.50 Mrs. Hays 7 March 2016 Essay 2 A Clean Well–Lighted Dark Place "A Clean, Well–Lighted Place" by Ernest Hemingway is a story that paints powerful images of desperation, light and darkness, and nothingness. The author primarily about an old deaf man who is drunk late at night and gets more alcohol, preferably brandy at a nearby well–lighted cafГ©. In this cafe a young waiter and an old waiter are running the place. They are having a conversation about the man who is a regular customer at the cafe, and he comes in every night to drink and kill time. According to the short story, the old waiter said, "Each night I am reluctant to close up because there may be someone who needs the cafe." The old man spends every evening at the same cafe until it closes. Because of this, the waiter realizes that his cafe is more than just a place to eat and drink. It is a refuge from the darkness of the night outside. It's has given the old man the opportunity to temporarily steer away from the dark side and into the light side. Darkness is a symbol of fear and loneliness whereas the light symbolizes comfort and the company of others. There is hopelessness in the dark while the light renders a sense of comfort. • 6. Descriptive Essay On My Aunt's House Every household has its own individual characteristics that make it functional, while portraying the family. For the private residential space, I decided to focus on my aunt's house. The space has a slight rustic theme throughout and utilizes natural products in every room. I choose to focus on the kitchen /dining room of this home because it is the center of this household where everyone tends to congregate. After walking through the entryway, one enters the spacious kitchen/dining room. The walls are a warm oak wood throughout, except the top half in the dining room is a wallpaper. The wallpaper has small burgundy starts in a repeated pattern on a cream background. The flooring is a brown, appears stone like, linoleum through the entire space. The main color seen is brown through all the oak cabinetry and walls; the accent color is different shades of red, mainly deep red, which is present in the stars on wallpaper and decorations throughout the area. The kitchen is well lit with a centered rectangular incandescent lighting fixture with recessed incandescent can lighting above the island. The LED lighting underneath the wall cabinets is perfect for all the baking and cooking done in the kitchen. The dining room has a large amount of daylight entering from all directions, yet has a simple incandescent chandelier for evening light. The lighting all emits close to daylight giving a warm color light. Overall, the space is well lit and supplies both day and evening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Let Me Count... "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." Elizabeth Barrett Browning said that in her poem "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." to show her love for her unnamed husband. She shows just from that statement her love for him if she is willing to make a list solely for the ways she love him. If that is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to love her unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love of God and put towards her love for him. Browning has just written about her obsession over her husband and how it seems to be a problem with her day–to–day routine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If she only has candlelight then it should indicate that there is no light outside and that it is the evening. So her meaning behind the quote is that she loves him from the morning to the evening. If that isn't enough to sound a bit weird for somebody to love another person everyday. Browning obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much? ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...ВЁ. The poem is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for this man. The quote states the ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints.ВЁ The love that she lost is almost certainly the of God. When she says ВЁlost saintsВЁ a saint is a person that has a likeness are closeness to God. A person with exceptional holiness. So when she says that ВЁlost saintsВЁ it should mean her lost of love towards God. So when Browning writes ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to loseВЁ then it should mean that she loves him more than God, because it seems like she has replaced her love towards God and replaced it with her love towards him. • 9. TPCASTT Analysis For Evening Hawk TPCASTT Analysis For Evening Hawk Title Reading the title, Evening Hawk, this poem allows me to imagine a literal interpretation of the title; a hawk swooping and gliding with the sky streaked of scarlet red in the background. I believe this poem will be filled with imagery as the majestic creature flaps its large wings maybe hunting its prey or just enjoying the cooling air. Paraphrase The first stanza sets the setting for the arrival of the hawk in the evening. It describes the time of day talking about shadows and last light. The end of the stanza talks about the hawk arriving. The second stanza describes the hawk itself using elaborate descriptions and imagery. Its wing is put into focus as it is described as a sharp edge that is cutting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning, the hawk and its surroundings are described in vivid imagery; however, that changes in the end when the light of day disappears and the warning of human errors comes into play. Splitting the poem into its six stanzas would be the easiest way to analyze the tone of each stanza which would help understand the attitude of the entire poem. In the first stanza, the poem is calm but near the end, when it says, "The hawk comes," it feels like the calm before a storm. The next stanza is more majestic describing a hawk swooping and soaring, with a wing and motion so sharp, it metaphorically cuts down stalks of time. Stanza number three is the one line stanza, a line full of meaning however. This is where the poem shifts from a positive attitude to a negative, warning attitude as it speaks of human errors. The next paragraph shows the hawk having no regard, an unforgiving world, shifting the poem even deeper into warning. However, as the sun sets and the hawk is replaced with an image of a bat, he is still powerful. The attitude is much calmer. Finally, ending the poem off, it talks about how if we as humans listen, we could hear everything, accenting another one of our errors. "Evening Hawk" is a poem thats attitude can be described as powerful as the image of the hawk is powerful, and the meaning behind the hawk is powerful as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His inspiration mainly comes from ancient folklore and comic books. There is one painting from his collections that stood out to me more than any other painting he did, it was called "Evening Echos". I believe the women is kind of letting life past her by because she is standing in one position with her eyes close to maybe indicate that she not making herself present during the process of the cycle. The artist chose to highlight her, the trumpet, the moon, and the butterflies by lighting the background surrounding them and also chose bright colors to color in the objects. • 11. Essay on James Joyce's Dubliners: Two Gallants In "Two Gallants," the sixth short story in the Dubliners collection, James Joyce is especially careful and crafty in his opening paragraph. Even the most cursory of readings exposes repetition, alliteration, and a clear structure within just these nine lines. The question remains, though, as to what the beginning of "Two Gallants" contributes to the meaning and impact of Joyce's work, both for the isolated story itself and for Dubliners as a whole. The construction, style, and word choice of this opening, in the context of the story and the collection, all point to one of Joyce's most prevalent implicit judgments: that the people of Ireland refuse to make any effort toward positive change for themselves. (1)The grey warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Circularity is also evident when the beginning of the story is compared with the final paragraph. Consider the alliteration in lines 3–4: "summer," "streets," "shuttered," "Sunday," and "swarmed" and the ending (p. 71), where the "s" sound is repeated once again: "stared," "smiling," slowly," "small," and "shone." In addition, the image of a lamp plays a key role in each situation: to expose the "shape and hue" of the crowd in the opening (lines 4–6) and to expose the sovereign Corley holds in the final scene. In "Two Gallants," Joyce uses circularity to point out a lack of real change in the situation he has presented. This concept sets up the scene as something essentially static –– even the constantly "changing shape and hue" is reduced to a "murmur" when taken as a group (lines 7, 9). Likewise, the purpose Joyce intends for the story is exposed by the fact that its central action –– trading sexual favors for the slave–girl's salary –– is just a matter of course for the main characters. As the two men acknowledge, Ecod! Corley, you know how to take them, he [Lenehan] said. I'm up to all their little tricks, Corley confessed. (p. 63) Even though Corley essentially steals money from an innocent woman, this "action" is merely an expression of the fact that both he and Lenehan remain the same shallow creatures of habit they were at the beginning of the story. 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' is about how the narrator stops outside the snow –filled woods to admire the scenery along with his horse. The narrator does not stay for long as he has 'promises to keep'. 'The Chalk Pit' involves the conversation of two people about a chalk pit nearby. Speaker A adds a lot of imagination to the conversation while Speaker B is more plainspoken and mundane. The theme of the two poems is of nature and place. Where as, the tone of 'The Chalk Pit' is conversational and familiar throughout the whole stanza. This portrays to the reader that it is Winter and that the woods are experiencing the cold weather. The narrator says, 'The woods are lovely, dark and deep.' The words have been juxtaposed i.e. words have been put together that wouldn't normally be used together, for effect. Reeves describes the woods as if it is hoary and inactive, I know this because in the poem he says 'mouldy'. He also says 'arching sprays of bramble' which means there would be alot of cultivation as well in the wood. On the other the poem, 'stopping by Woods on a snowy evening' has the setting of a man on horse back stopping by the woods for a rest when he is on a long journey. The narrator knows the owner of the woods and knows where he lives but then he says, 'he will not see me stopping here'. Why will the owner of the woods not see the narrator stopping by? Then the narrator says 'my little horse must think it queer, to stop without a farmhouse near', so that means his horse thinks it is very odd, to stop when there is no farmhouse near. So why did the narrator stop then? This is another example of the mystery the poem evokes. The author describes the woods as if it is very scary. I know this because he says 'the woods are lovely, dark and deep'. I think he was being sarcastic when he said 'lovely'. 'Dark and deep' would mean that the woods had a lack of light and that it was very big and you could get lost in it. In this poem the narrator still has miles to travel in his journey because on the last two lines he says 'and miles to go before I sleep'. Where is the narrator's destination? This poem has an AABArhyme scheme. Frost has added alliteration 'dark and deep' and he uses onomatopoeia 'the only other sound's the sweep, of easy wind and downy flake.' Overall this poem created a more powerful sense of mystery than the toadstool wood, which means it has created more suspense. I can see more mystery in this poem other than toadstool wood. One could mistake that the focal point is the little figure under the birch tree who is a priest. However, the main point in this landscape is all about the birches. The reason why one could say so is because of all the visual elements such as: the birches are in the middle of the painting; they are also the most lighted objects in the painting (light is shining in the form of an oval) (National Gallery). Due to the levels of lightning one can see that the picture is divided into three horizontal parts: the top (dark, but not as dark as the bottom of the painting); the middle is the lightest; and the bottom is the darkest. This means that he used what he learned about the Dutch style and mixed it with his personal style thus we have a whole new way of seeing his point of view. The second painting, "The Campo Santo, Venice", was done by Joseph Mallord William Turner. He was born in London on April 23, 1775. Turner was interested in painting water subjects as well as landscapes ("Biography for"). He was educated at the Royal Academy of Arts where he developed his way of expressing natural light on the paintings, thus his style is seen as impressionistic. It is said that his father has been selling Turner's paintings at his own shop from1 to 3 shillings which may have influenced his decision to have the boy educated as a painter. • 26. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Winter Evening Settles Down ' T.S Eliot's poem, "The winter evening settles down" is a short, simple to read poem with several different examples of imagery. Eliot uses descriptive words, for instance, "withered leaves", "broken blinds", and "lonely cab–horse" (lines 7–10). He paints an extremely bleak image of a town that seems to be deserted of people. The tone of the poem plays hand–in–hand with the imagery used. This town is an unpleasant place where it has seemed to be neglected for some years now. Eliot's use of imagery takes the reader to this deserted, torpid place; however, at the same time, his goal is to bring the life back into this grim town. As stated prior, the town being described in the poem has a very dull and gloomy feel that surrounds it. The first line reads, "the winter evening settles down." By personifying winter, the reader is able to have a visual idea of what is currently happening in this fallen town. After reading this line one is able to make the inference that the setting of this poem is the winter season. A winters day can start off beautiful and seem magical, however, when the day comes to an end and the snow slowly starts to melt and everything becomes disgusting. Eliot is slowly painting an eerie scene in just the first line of the poem. There is also an underlying feeling of exhaustion and boredom described throughout this poem. "The burnt–out ends of smoky days" (line 4) causes the reader to visualize perhaps the burnt out end of a cigarette. The fire is gone at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Figurative Language In 'Evening Hawk' By Robert Penn Warren Evening Hawk In the poem Evening Hawk, the author Robert Penn Warren uses figurative language to portray the scene, mood and meaning. A lot of imagery is used to convey the meaning, Warren use of words creates a sense of sadness, and darkness. The hidden message within the poem can be discern through his use of words and the mood he creates through the description of every object Robert mentions a hawk that symbolizes death, and how humanity tends to ignore it. Part of Roberts's diction is using imagery, so that the reader can open up their imagination to what is going on in the poem itself. Just in the first stanza he starts off mentioning a plane in the sky, "From plane of light to plane, wings dipping through Geometries and orchids that the sunset builds" (1–2) which by reading the poem, you can interpret that the plane flying in the sky symbolizes the life of a human. After describing the plane in the sky he mentions a hawk "out of the peak's black angularity of shadow riding. The last tumultuous avalanche of light above pines and the guttural gorge, the hawk comes" (3–6), Roberts's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Analysis Of A Quick Nap and the outside world begin?"; "Where and when do you most enjoy the quality of light in your home"; "Have you ever been in transit between two homes?" These questions get viewers thinking about connections to their own experiences, and also serve as a summary of the label itself. One of the art pieces that were being focused on was Walter Henry Williams' oil on canvas painting, "A Quick Nap". His piece titled ' A Quick Nap ' stood out to me along my browse throughout the museum. Its interesting color scheme grabbed me; I believed there was a tale to the story. The lightly glossed, oil painted canvas depicts a little girl dozing by the red railing of a fire escape above the city streets. The little girl is seen to be resting her head on her right hand, napping. Walter Williams contrasts the curves of the girl's soft pink dress with the hard grid of the ironwork and straight lines of the window that reflects similar fire escapes across the street. A rooftop water tower is outlined against the haze of the evening sky, and a skylight punctures the roof below. The fire escape became more than an emergency exit in a burning building. It is used for everything from outdoor to dining to sleeping and gardening, opening up the home to the surrounding city like a "porch in the sky" or "private get–away". I gazed at the little girl in the foreground; the reflecting glass in the mid–ground, and the evening sky in the background. The painting is sized at about 24 inches by 30 inches. While observing this painting, several questions came to mind, like a bulb became lit. Questions about the sky, the dress, the sun, the reflection in the door, and the rooftop water tank were formed in my mind. I even wondered where Williams was while observing. The pink dress being worn by the little girl appears to have the softest color, it is light cool and comfortable, which is most compelling and contrasting being the only curves in the frame. The sun is low in the skyline showing the time of day, possibly early evening and at the same time sets the tone for the artwork. I can imagine an evening with a full household of at least 5 including the little girl. She has retreated to her place of tranquil and serenity. The rooftop water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Analysis of Acquainted with the Night and Stopping by the... Research Paper first draft 16th Nov 2011 In a Dark Night, I Find My Answers. The two poems "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "Acquainted with the Night" written by Robert Frost are very similar to each other because of the simplistic form of language used and the uses of metaphors. When we first read the poem, it looks like an ordinary poem but once we go in depth and understand the meaning, it becomes so much more. Both of the poem has a very dark, gloomy and lonely setting with a really mysterious tone. There are different metaphors used in each poem to symbolize death; "Sleep" in "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "Night" in "Acquainted with the Night." The characters in the two poem are both in a journey and has come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I have walked out in rain –– and back in rain." from "Acquainted with the Night" shows the depression of the character because most of us relate to rain as an emotional moment and makes us feel vulnerable. When it rains, the whole atmosphere becomes very gloomy and sad, and the author is trying to express the characters sadness. The character in "Stopping by Woods in a Snowy Evening" is a very old fashioned person because he is with a horse and rides his horse through the woods. "My little horse must think it queer. To stop without a farmhouse near– Between the woods and frozen lake" shows how even his horse is surprised to be stopping in the middle of the woods where there is no livelihood. It is very unusual even for the horse to stop at this hour of the night because they should be trying to get home as soon as possible since it is already dark. "He gives his harness bells a shake. To ask if there is some mistake." express how the horse is also very attentive about what is going on around him and his master's unusual behavior. The horse tries to confirm with the character whether or not they have stopped in the right place. "I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet. When far away an interrupted cry. Came over houses from another street. But not to call me back or say good–bye," from "Acquainted With the Night" shows that the character is looking for a sign for him to look back but it was not ... How Did The Light Bulb Affect Society The first successful light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879, little did he know that his invention would change the world and still has affects to this day. There are many reasons why the light bulb was the best invention of the Industrial revolution, three reasons why are; it changed human existence by illuminating the night. Another one is that it helped improve economics by making days longer. The last one is it improved education, people began to read more and learning facilities had later classes. The light bulb was definitely not the only invention from the Industrial revolution but it was the one to have the biggest impact on society. The Light bulb changed the lives of many people; it had a big impact on illuminating the night. The night was always dark until the light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879 and ever since then, the night has been able to be bright if people wanted it too. The story of the light bulb begins long before Edison patented the first commercially successful bulb in 1879; in 1800 Italian inventor Alessandro Volta developed the first practical method of generating electricity, the voltaic pile, made of alternating discs of zinc and copper, the pile conducted electricity when a copper wire was connected at either ended. • 32. Diction And Imagery In The Poem 'Evening Hawk' By Robert... In the poem "Evening Hawk" Robert Penn Warren symbolizes death with a hawk that is oblivious to time and error. Through strong diction and imagery, Warren illustrates a timeless scene of a merciless predator reaping the life out of the corrupt and greedy human race. The title of the poem gives an initial feeling of the timelessness of the scene by describing the day of time as just another "evening." The diction used is quite dark and almost cynical as Warren sets the scene at sunset, the lastlight of the day, and describes it [the light] as a "tumultuous avalanche" as if the light is something that one struggles through the way one struggles through life. Warren also describes the way in which the hawk ends the day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ideas Irwin articulates about age and experience with this imagery also serve to show the disconnect between nature and civilization over time. The poem is divided into two stanzas: morning and evening. Likewise, there are two butterflies: morning and evening. The morning butterfly has only just completed his transition stage. He is faced with the beginning of life and the task to make a connection to civilization. The evening butterfly is well into her final life stage. • 34. Landscape With Aqueduct For this paper I have selected two landscapes; the first painting is Evening: Landscape with an Aqueduct by Theodore Gericault from the 19th century, which showcases a fairly bright and colorful presentation of a landscape. The landscape depicts ruins from the Italian countryside and is part of a set of four paintings depicting different times of day. I chose this particular landscape because I enjoyed the feelings of hope and optimism that the painting inspires out of the viewer. My second piece is View of Toledo by El Greco from the 16th century, which is much darker and is composed of a only a few colors. Toledo itself is defined and is very much distinct from the surrounding vegetation and hills. The light blue coloring of these structures has no similarity with any of the natural components except for the lighter clouds towards the top portions of the painting. This presents Toledo as separate from the natural world, there appears to no direct interaction asides from being around the natural world. In fact, below that wall there is simply green vegetation and a fence at the bottom of the river. This all stands in stark contrast the work of Gericault. Gericault's piece shows the natural world and man–made structures as intermingling with the natural components of the painting. For example, even the compound shows several tall trees within its confines. The structure on the far left shows it being consumed by vegetation. Whereas El Greco, makes every structure a separate entity sharing no color with the surrounding natural world, the exception of course being the clouds. This makes the structures to simply be in the world and not necessarily interacting with the natural component. Perhaps, this lack of interaction and the existence of an approaching storm show a negative interaction between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Evening Concert, Saint-Chapelle, By Updike Updike's depiction of a concert in "Evening Concert, Saint–Chapelle" reveals that music has the power to sustain life. Using a theme of power, Updike suggest that music is similar to the human heart because both are powerhouses of their bodies. Updike begins the poem by outlining what he is comparing. "The celebrated windows flamed with light". Updike's first object used in the comparison is life because he depicts the windows coming to life with the light. By separating this scene from the scene of the concert, Updike makes the windows an individual concept. Because he chose to use the word "flamed", Updike suggest that this individual concept is life. Similar to how a flame gives life to a fire, the light gives life to the windows and makes them a symbol for life. To establish the concert as its own concept, Updike states "Then violins vaunting Vivaldi's strident strengths, then Brahms, seemed to suck with their passionate sweetness, bit by bit, the vigor from the red, the blazing blue." The violins are the heartbeat of the concert, so the concert was given life and made an individual. Updike makes this clear by giving the description of the violins sucking the red and blue which are the colors of blood. Unoxygenated blood is blue,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That Evening Sun: Literary Analysis Essay "That Evening Sun" by William Faulkner is a good example of a great emotional turmoil transferred directly to the readers through the words of a narrator who does not seem to grasp the severity of the turmoil. It is a story of an African American laundress who lives in the fear of her common–law husband Jesus who suspects her of carrying a white man's child in her womb and seems hell bent on killing her. Many critics refer to "That Evening Sun" as one of the finest examples of narrative point of view. Throughout the short story several symbols appear. Mr. Stovell for example who is an illustration of both the economic system, he is a cashier at the bank, and the religious institutions, he is a Baptist deacon, of the South, refuses to pay Nancy for her services. Stovell is representative of all the bad in the South, and how the White take advantage of the Blacks, and don't get punished for it; he represents both the wealthy and the religious. Another symbol is certainly the way that Faulkner uses dark and light in the story. For Nancy "that evening sun'' represents the danger that her absent lover presents to her. Jesus whose name is likely an ironic joke on Faulkner's part represents danger and violence to Nancy, and he will wait until night has come to fall upon her. When it is light she feels safer, but once the darkness hits, danger is represented. The title of "That Evening Sun" refers to a popular black spiritual that begins, "Lordy, how I hate to see that evening sun go down," which implies that once the sun sets, death is sure to follow. • 38. Analysis Of Home Burial By Robert Frost Robert Frost poetry essay 'Meaningful discoveries can offer opportunities to change the course of an individual's life, physically, spiritually or emotionally.' How is this view of discovery represented in your prescribed text and at least ONE other text of your choosing? For an individual's life to under–go meaningful discoveries of a physical, spiritual or emotional nature, one must make use of the opportunities that life presents them with. This notion is outstandingly exemplified through poet Robert Frost's poetry, specifically poems 'Home Burial' and 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening'. Through the context of these poems as well as the placement of poetic devices, emotional, spiritual, and self–discoveries are brought to light. Frost's 'Home Burial' effectively presents emotional discoveries through reactions of a dramatis personae to the same revelation. Frost's text encompasses a husband and wife whose melancholia over their deceased baby has essentially contributed to the destruction of their marriage. The hostile nature of their marriage is alluded to in the double entendre in the title, "Home Burial." The use of double entendre elicts to the literal burial of the baby in the home of the broken family. Additionally, the esoteric interpretations construct the proposal a baby has not only been buried, but a marriage along with it. The title of the poem is "Evening Hawk" and the word evening implies the end– a day coming to a close. But, the day is transformed into all of time through other figurative language in the poem. Beginning in stanza one, Warren depicts the "sunset build[ing]" as "The last tumultuous avalanche of light" breaks through the pines (Warren 2, 4–5). Like evening, sunset implies the end of a day as the light leaves the earth and darkness encloses. However, as the "sunset builds", light that breaks through the trees is the "last" bit of light before the hawk comes. The word "last" suggests there is no more to come– ever. Not only is it the last ray of light, it is a "tumultuous avalanche of light" creating the image of a rough mountain in the mind of the reader. This mountain reveals how the author recognizes that he has reached the climax of his life and is on a quick downward fall toward death– the end of time is near. Furthermore, a "tumultuous avalanche" insinuates urgency in the tone of the author revealing how he is trying to warn readers that the end is closer than previously thought. In stanza two, Warren continues to indicate the end is approached through the "crashless fall of stalks of Time" as the hawk "Scythes down another day" (Warren 9, 7). • 42. William Wordsworth, one of major pioneers of the Romantics, viewed nature from his own philosophical viewpoint as a formative influence superior to all. He believed in the education of man by Nature which was a prominent theme in his poems "Expostulation and Reply" and "The Tables Turned." In "Expostulation and Reply" and "The Tables Turned," Wordsworth's use of natural imagery, metaphorical imagery, and criticism of conventional learning elevates the speaker's message of learning from nature over academia. Wordsworth's utilizes natural imagery in "The Tables Turned" and lack thereof in "Expostulation and Reply" to heighten nature's superiority in contrast to scholarly learning. The first line of the "The Tables Turned" the speaker urges his Friend to "quit [their] books" (1) and escape the "toil and trouble" of reading. In stanza two of "The Tables Turned," the speaker use of natural imagery paints a picture of the magnifice seen in nature when describing a beautiful evening scene of "A freshening lustre mellow /. . . all the long green fields /. . . first sweet evening yellow" (6–8).
