Customer Requirements : N Cost Efficient Essay
Customer Requirements
· Cost Efficient
Potential customers in the Defense Contracting industry are limited by the amount of money granted
by the government. Therefore, customers such as Victoria want to find suppliers who can provide
the lowest cost possible when producing batches of parts. Wolfe & Swickard can offer this with its
expertise in manufacturing. By looking at the customer's supply chain as a whole, Wolfe &
Swickard can make suggestions for lowering costs. According to Joe Williams, Wolfe & Swickard
was able to save a customer 1 million dollars a year by analyzing the supply chain and
manufacturing parts at a lower cost Citation: Joe Williams (president of Wolfe & Swickard) in
discussion with the authors, August 2016.
If the customer and Wolfe & Swickard communicate effectively and openly share information, both
companies can work together to accomplish a cost efficient relationship.
· Communication
Communication is a very important aspect for Wolfe & Swickard's target customers. Accurate and
timely communication can be achieved through constant share of information. Both companies must
work together and communicate in order to ultimately produce a satisfactory end product for the
U.S. military. It is important for Wolfe & Swickard to keep its customers in the loop and
communicate any potential problems with the manufacturing process as soon as possible. It is also
important for Wolfe & Swickard to communicate accurate timelines to its customers.

Persuasive Essay On Defense Spending
Something that I vehemently disagree on with both political parties is defense spending. In their
platforms, both parties seem to favor an increase in funding, even if it is a bit more discretely
worded under the Democratic Party's platform. In my view, we allocate too much of our country's
resources to the military, and neglect many of its other needs in doing so. The United States military
is by far and away the most puissant armed organization in the world. Here are some figures that
help illustrate just how pragmatic that last statement is. In the 2015 fiscal year we spent 598 billion
dollars on the military; that's over fifty percent of the federal government's discretionary spending.
(1) In 2016, only 19 of 194 nations had a higher GDP than America's defense budget; that means
that the U.S. spends more money per year on its military than the total value of all goods produced
and services provided in a country in a year in 90 percent of the world's nations.(2) According to
2016 statistics the U.S. spends more on its defense than the next eight countries combined.(3) That
same year, China was second with a 215 billion dollar defense budget and Russia was third at
approximately 69 billion.
Donald Trump's audacious administration is actually proposing a budget for 2018 that increases
military spending by 54 billion dollars!(4) To make this feasible massive cuts have to be made to the
detriment of bureaucratic organizations such as: the department of education, the EPA, department
of labor, housing and urban development department. To give that number a frame of reference, the
estimated cost of providing tuition free public universities under the 2016 Sanders plan is
approximately 75 billion dollars.(5) We already have nearly eight hundred military bases around the
world, do we really need to allocate more resources to this department in which we already have the
ability to act unilaterally on a global scale with impunity?(6) Or are there other departments in our
society that could benefit more from an influx in funding?
I disagree with the egregiously high military budget for several reasons. Not only do I feel that other
pivotal areas of our society are lacking support, but I also disagree

Essay about Lockheed Martin Organizational Environment
Organizational Culture and Environment
As one of the only major defense contractors, one would think that Lockheed Martin has a different
organizational culture and environment than most companies, but in reality they run like any
company would but in a unique industry. They specialize in four different business segments
including Aeronautics, Space Systems, Electronic Systems, and Integrated Systems and Global
Solutions. Their vision statement says, "Powered by Innovation, Guided by Integrity, We Help Our
Customers Achieve Their Most Challenging Goals". (Lockheed Martin, 1) This company works
toward maintaining their lead in global security through innovative research and development.
Lockheed Martin's internal environment is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They must be able to quickly respond to any threats to our nation's security. They are firmly on the
defense and government side of aeronautics. Considering that 85% of their sales derive from the
United States Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin is directly affected by the government's
military spending cuts. (Hoovers, 1) So, this company thrives off of the government's budget and
specific needs. Lockheed Martin's 2007 revenue was $41.9 billion which shows that the current
economic situation has not affected them that much which is probably because their products and
supplies are being used in the war in Iraq. Their products are in high demand here in the United
States and around the world due to recent terrorism and turmoil. One good thing about working
closely with the government is that job stability is not a problem. Lockheed Martin rarely lays off
employees and can supply them with good benefits. However, other factors affect the way that the
company runs such as its focus on the environment and "going green". Lockheed is creating
programs that will help make their products more environmentally friendly. Considering 90% of
Lockheed's greenhouse gas emissions derive from energy use, they created an energy program
which operates with the Environmental, Safety and Health organization. This energy management
program tracks the corporation's usages and costs so that it can monitor energy efficiency

Meeting in person also helps build a better professional relationship, particularly at the earlier

Prepare an agenda, share with and invite the member of staff to add anything he/she wants to discuss

Inform the member of staff (if this is their first appraisal), how the meeting will be conducted, and

organisation.
Read the previous year's appraisal (if available), and any other records of meetings e.g. 1 2 1

deadlines that have not been met. Also review any commitments made by management (you or the
previous post holder) to ensure these have been met, and to assess outcomes.

Characteristics Of Northrop Grumman
The regular operations and key characteristics of Northrop Grumman(NG) are demonstrated in the
companies Our Values (2017) document. It describes the characteristics that create the company's
daily atmosphere. Evaluating NG's leadership process, based on systems theory, can be viewed
through how well the sectors communicate amongst each other. Corporate culture at NG shows
employees across the hierarchy, living by these guidelines.
Northrop Grumman(NG) operates from a systems theory approach to maximize communications
across the hierarchy, between and among sectors. The basic tenants of systems theory as apply to

SWOT Analysis. General Dynamics has grown steadily over the years and even though military
spending has shrunk in the last few years, the company has been able to obtain large contracts with
the US Navy. The company survival depends heavily on governmental contracts, so they are trying
to expand their horizons to new business opportunities worldwide. One of the advantages of General
Dynamics is the company's diversification of products which play a key role in their dominance in
the market. For example, the Marine section of their business develops combat ships and submarines
for the US government and it is one of the two crucial shipbuilders in the country. Following are
examples of the company's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats the company faces,
especially in the Marine sector. Strengths: Powerful top of the line technology including the stealth

According to the company contract the costs for a Virginia class submarine can go up to $2.7 billion.
The product itself offers a variable number of features which make it the most reliable warfare
equipment right now in the market. Features include really advanced technology, the capabilities of

submarines offer are very important for the national security of the US to prevent attacks in US soil.
On the other hand, promotion for this product can be based on the company experience and proven
record of achievement developing this kind of product. Once the company wins the contract there is
not much promotion to do. Building Virginia class submarines is a coordinated program with

Teams
The team aspect of Lockheed Martin in my opinion would be generalized as a traditional works
groups, meaning there is responsibility at the top of the group with support provided by others.
However, when it comes to their product development department, there must be more of a
participative leadership to encourage employee ideas and innovation. Relating back to the story of "
Skunkworks", when Clarence Kelly Johnson's team designed and built the first tactical jet fighter,
Kelly's promotion of innovation and creativity amongst his team helped to not only complete the
project but to complete it ahead of schedule. This style of leadership promoted pride in the product
which made each team member feel as though they had a personal stake ... Show more content on

Personally, I suspect that this is not a feature often utilized and if an employee has an idea or
suggestion it is often communicated directly to their immediate supervisor who then may or may not
continue to the remake up the ladder. This can create boundaries to the communication within the
company however I believe with the employee's ready access to information and the encouragement
of communication from top managers, Lockheed Martin will continue to improve in this area.
Wrap Up Lockheed Martin began as a small venture of two individuals who passionately believed in
their product and the future of aviation. In their passion, a company was formed that would go
through highs and lows both in leadership, reputation and production development. Their
management philosophy of "make it better" combined with their lean management approach ensures
that the product is made to the best quality while eliminating cumbersome manufacturing or
environmental wastes. Their strengths and weaknesses can be measured by the outside factors that
they face. They continue to be the largest defense product provider in the world however they face
factors outside their control which could upset the very structure and existence of their company.
They migrate this risk by diversifying their products and expanding their involvement in projects
across the world. This diversification has led to the company spreading across the world and
increased its need to maintain a solid organizational

Obtaining A House Keeper For Building An Organization Essay
Obtaining a house keeper to come clean three times out of the week is simple to do. One only needs
to look on–line and hire the one that is available at the time. However, when you operate an
organization that has 1,000 employees, 12 departments, 25 restrooms, 15 break rooms, 10 proposal
rooms, 8 Executive offices suites, and one large dining area you need more than just three days a
week of cleaning. A solution needs to address the specifics of what our organization requires in
cleaning our facility. The solution for this will come by way of developing a Request for Proposal
[emphasis added] and to establish a specific contract type that will address the needs of our
organization. The cleaning services organization that we offer the contract too must understand the
specific tasks that we want them to perform. For starters they must provide commercial cleaning.
The specifics would include, cleaning of draperies and upholstery, lobby entrances, windows and
floor care, break rooms and restrooms. Furthermore, they must demonstrate a high level of
experience with their employees. The second task will be with janitorial services. This service
provided will ensure that all garbage bins or emptied on a regular basis to prevent overflowing. The
refrigerators in all the break rooms will be cleaned to prevent mold from accumulating, all
microwaves and coffee machines will be cleaned daily, and vacuuming of all carpeted areas will be
performed twice a day. It is vital that

Raytheon Case Analysis
Discussion Activity 1 – Personal Application
Background
My current employer is Raytheon Company, which is one of the largest defense companies in the
United States (Choi, 2016). Raytheon was founded in 1922 and has grown organically by winning
new and maintaining the existing government contracts, as well as through a number of acquisitions.
The company provides advanced and integrated technological products, services, and solutions for
both domestic and international customers ("Raytheon's 10–K Report", 2016).
According to Global Edge, the aerospace and defense (A&D) industry is highly concentrated, which
means that the industry's direction and price points are largely shaped and controlled by a small
amount of large firms in the industry (Global Edge, n. d.). The top five A&D contractors based on
their 2015 revenues are Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Northrop
Grumman (Choi, 2016).
Fundamental Strategic Issues in Defense Industry The A&D industry relies mainly on the defense
budget allocated for various government and military products and services, such as military
aircrafts, ships, missiles, and other defense–related technological devices. As the government faces a
debt crisis, A&D companies are subsequently affected by the decreasing spending, stalled and
eliminated contracts, and priority changes (Global Edge, n. d.a; Kulikowski, 2015). Because of the
U.S. government budget constraint, many A&D companies have entered into international

The Politics And Last National Security Essay
Arms Trade, Weapons Sales, Armament Sales are just few terms used for the manufacture and sale
or trade of devices to protect a country, attack another and quite possibly benefit economically, or
politically on a global scale. Countries, entities, factions, make, sell, and give things of destruction
to others. This is a reality. The intent of this paper is to provide information that individuals can use
to determine the necessity. The economics, the politics and last the National Security are the three
main discussion points.
History
History of Arms Trade, Weapons Trade or the trade any of items necessary to protect, feed or
conquer dates back to the dawn of time. Scholars note that arms trade or weapons trade could be
traced back 300,000 years (Thieme). As "humans" evolved and interacted with each other, scholars
speculate that the trade of many things occurred. The trade would include stories, knowledge, which
can be considered intangibles, then the tangibles, seeds for food, things to make tools, how to make
a shelter, weapons for protection and survival. Basically trade included instruction and things
needed for every aspect of life; to survive. Agers 2
Elements of Thought
Think about it this way. You have a clan or tribe with really good sharp rocks and a clan or tribe
with really good wood staffs. You put both together you have a more lethal device, for protection
and providing food. An item that was designed to help a human to survive evolved

Blown In Insulation Research Paper
Blown In Insulation May Be The Solution For Staying Warmer In The Winter
If it seems like your power bill is higher in the winter than it used to be, it might be because you
need to add insulation to your attic. Insulation can compress over time, or it can get wet from attic
leaks and cease to work like it should. Adding insulation could improve the energy efficiency in
your home and that in turn will reduce your power bill. While you can choose from a few different
types of insulation to add, blown in insulation is often the best option. Here are a few things to
know.
Apply It Over Existing Insulation
As long as your current insulation is not wet or moldy, you can have new insulation blown in over
top of it. This will save you from the labor of pulling up old insulation that could release fiberglass,
mouse droppings, or other dangers into the air that might circulate through your home. However, if
you need to pull out the existing insulation, you will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fiberglass is one option. It can be blown into your attic, but there is the risk that tiny bits of
fiberglass will become airborne and float through your home. For that reason, the contractor might
install a netting system over the fiberglass to hold it in place. The advantage of using blown in
fiberglass over batts is that the blow in variety is able to settle itself evenly over the floor of your
attic, and isn't confined to the shape of the batts that might leave small gaps uninsulated.
Cellulose is the more common type of blown in insulation. It is made from recycled paper and
cardboard that is treated to be fire retardant. It is heavier than fiberglass, so it stays put once it is
blown in. Although it is heavy, it is manufactured to be fluffy. This allows for air circulation that
prevents mold. Plus, the trapping of air pockets improves insulating

This was mostly accomplished through operational improvements and capital deployment actions.
Also, for 2010, they were able to generate $1.9 billion in operating cash flow, have a 14.6% return

further look at Raytheon's financial position, the data from a financial ratio analysis can be viewed.
To compare both Raytheon and Northrop Grumman, a financial ratio analysis was constructed for
the two companies. There were 19 total ratios and other financial factor utilized to compare both
companies. Out of all 19, Raytheon was able to best Northrop Grumman in 11. Some of the bigger
areas that are of concern are: current ratio, debt to asset ratio, times interest earned ratio, gross profit
rate, and asset turnover ratio. This is a good accomplishment for a company that sees's much smaller
revenues than many of its competitors. Although the company has much going for it, there are still
some concerns that should be taken into consideration. As mentioned above, the company does see
smaller revenues than many of its competitors. This lower generation of revenues could end up
putting the company at a disadvantage in such a competitive market. Raytheon's size could also lead
to a reduction in bargaining power against its competition (DATAMONITOR). Another weakness is
the company's dependence on government contracts. Since these contracts are

1. What contractual issues should the contractor pay special attention to before signing the

Massive and sophisticated demolition work predates the establishment of the proposed

by myriad constraints and limitations, rendering the nation acutely incapable of successfully

Such prohibitions enlisted in the contract must also be studied and adhered to with caution.
2. Discuss some of the fundamental issues that must be considered by any demolition contractor
bidding for the work.
The demolition contract entails the annihilation of a 10,000 square meter warehouse and three two–
storied industry buildings in order to ready the site for the construction of the proposed
developmental property. The cost required to be incurred on this project is estimated at US $10
million. As a large–scale demolition and construction endeavor involving unprecedented costs,
resources and strategizing, all contractors who wish to bid for the project must vigilantly analyze
and interpret the fundamental issues surrounding the execution of the task. These issues have
discussed as under.
Firstly, the project involves a very high degree of technical erudition. The buildings to be
demolished lie close to certain historically significant sites and residential areas, which must be
insulated from any sort of risk and impairment. This spells increased expenditures and efforts on the
part of the contractor, and also implies rigorous financial damages in case the contractor fails to
deliver the completed project within the stipulated timeline.
Secondly, the contractor must examine reports that suggest that portions of the land being prepared
for the new property is polluted. On account of the industrial activities that are prevalent in

How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one
manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and
disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of
faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, "The person who risks nothing – does
nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he
simply cannot learn... and grow... and live." (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractor who is bound to the

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace
apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The
parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence
in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v.
Schofield case, which states, "We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the
duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof." The court also noted that the complex had
been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work
that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the
pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of
the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims
as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been
identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as
a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the
contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

Cyber Security Policies and Defense Contractors Essay
Abstract Cyber security policies in the private sector have been a challenging issue for major
defense contractors, especially after recent attacks. As a result, the U.S. increased its strict
enforcement against these companies by justifying its intervention to improve cyber security. The
government would like to impose standards for companies who lack the proper protocol. Due to the
revised and new procedures, corporations are responding by rejecting any congressional
intervention. This has caused major friction in the relationship between the government and

  • 9. Persuasive Essay On Defense Spending Something that I vehemently disagree on with both political parties is defense spending. In their platforms, both parties seem to favor an increase in funding, even if it is a bit more discretely worded under the Democratic Party's platform. In my view, we allocate too much of our country's resources to the military, and neglect many of its other needs in doing so. The United States military is by far and away the most puissant armed organization in the world. Here are some figures that help illustrate just how pragmatic that last statement is. In the 2015 fiscal year we spent 598 billion dollars on the military; that's over fifty percent of the federal government's discretionary spending. (1) In 2016, only 19 of 194 nations had a higher GDP than America's defense budget; that means that the U.S. spends more money per year on its military than the total value of all goods produced and services provided in a country in a year in 90 percent of the world's nations.(2) According to 2016 statistics the U.S. spends more on its defense than the next eight countries combined.(3) That same year, China was second with a 215 billion dollar defense budget and Russia was third at approximately 69 billion. Donald Trump's audacious administration is actually proposing a budget for 2018 that increases military spending by 54 billion dollars!(4) To make this feasible massive cuts have to be made to the detriment of bureaucratic organizations such as: the department of education, the EPA, department of labor, housing and urban development department. To give that number a frame of reference, the estimated cost of providing tuition free public universities under the 2016 Sanders plan is approximately 75 billion dollars.(5) We already have nearly eight hundred military bases around the world, do we really need to allocate more resources to this department in which we already have the ability to act unilaterally on a global scale with impunity?(6) Or are there other departments in our society that could benefit more from an influx in funding? I disagree with the egregiously high military budget for several reasons. Not only do I feel that other pivotal areas of our society are lacking support, but I also disagree ... Considering that 85% of their sales derive from the United States Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin is directly affected by the government's military spending cuts. (Hoovers, 1) So, this company thrives off of the government's budget and specific needs. Lockheed Martin's 2007 revenue was $41.9 billion which shows that the current economic situation has not affected them that much which is probably because their products and supplies are being used in the war in Iraq. Their products are in high demand here in the United States and around the world due to recent terrorism and turmoil. One good thing about working closely with the government is that job stability is not a problem. Lockheed Martin rarely lays off employees and can supply them with good benefits. However, other factors affect the way that the company runs such as its focus on the environment and "going green". Lockheed is creating programs that will help make their products more environmentally friendly. Considering 90% of Lockheed's greenhouse gas emissions derive from energy use, they created an energy program which operates with the Environmental, Safety and Health organization. This energy management program tracks the corporation's usages and costs so that it can monitor energy efficiency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relating back to the story of " Skunkworks", when Clarence Kelly Johnson's team designed and built the first tactical jet fighter, Kelly's promotion of innovation and creativity amongst his team helped to not only complete the project but to complete it ahead of schedule. Raytheon Case Analysis Discussion Activity 1 – Personal Application Background My current employer is Raytheon Company, which is one of the largest defense companies in the United States (Choi, 2016). Raytheon was founded in 1922 and has grown organically by winning new and maintaining the existing government contracts, as well as through a number of acquisitions. History History of Arms Trade, Weapons Trade or the trade any of items necessary to protect, feed or conquer dates back to the dawn of time. Cellulose is the more common type of blown in insulation. It is made from recycled paper and cardboard that is treated to be fire retardant. • 59. Latent Defect Essay Mike Christensen December 10, 2009 CM 385: Section 1 Final Paper How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work? Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, "The person who risks nothing – does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live." It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, "We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof." The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child. Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor. Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
