*It is the creation of a film of which is
based in settings that are realistic of
which are focused on issues that exist
in the society thus bringing meaning
to the genre ‘social-realism’. It is
more common in the British film
industry and even more so in the
independent film industry.
*
*Typically Social-realism films tend to
have location shooting as opposed to
filming in a studio, with less known
actors and a small production
budget/value. There is typically no
special effects or any CGI and usually
the sound is diegetic.
*
*The film will often focus more on
the social issues of which are
common and narrative themes.
Examples of these social issues are
often alcoholism, abuse, mental
illness, sickness etc. There’s usually
an emphasis on the working class of
the characters in the film, and their
daily life.
*
*Another constant convention is that
they often have a lot of strong
language to show the passion and
depth of the films. But also to show
the realism because everyone swears
when they’re angry. They’re often
limited however, in their distribution
due to the lack of funds to be able to
put in cinema’s other than the few
independent ones.
