A social group is defined as two or more people who share expectations and responsibilities and have a unifying characteristic or purpose. Common types of social groups include peer groups of the same age, cliques with shared interests, clubs dedicated to activities, households within a home, primary close relationships, and secondary impersonal interactions. The document then discusses stereotypes of nerds, goths, and popular girls and how including these contrasting subcultures and stereotypes in a film opening sequence can make it more interesting for viewers by subverting expectations.

2. Definition
• A social group is two or more people in a social
interaction who share expectations and
responsibilities to the group who share a unifying
characteristic or sense of purpose.

3. Types
• Peer Group: people of the same age and social status
• Clique: same interests, usually in found in secondary school settings
• Club: a group of people dedicated to particular activities
• Household: individuals in the same home
• Primary: individuals in a close relationship with other individuals
• Secondary: impersonal and emotional temporary interactions

4. The Nerd
• Stereotypes of the nerd subculture include:
•Nerds always wear glasses and have freckles
•Nerds are weak and helpless
•Nerds are really smart and into computers
•Nerds are uncool
In my opening sequence we have
decided to include the Nerd subculture
as it very much contrasts the genre of
our film. So by having a psychopathic
nerd, it becomes interesting for the
viewer to see the contrast in stereotypes.
In the opening sequence the nerd will be
represented by the character Matilda,
who will be played by myself.

5. The Goth
• Stereotypes of the Goth subculture include:
•Goths are always depressed.
•Goths are homicidal.
•Goths are Satanist.
•Goths only dress in black.
•Goths are always angry and violent.
•Goths are quiet and shy
In my opening sequence the Goth group
will be represented by Edith who will be
played by Claire Hayes-Bowlzer. We have
chosen to include a Goth character in our
opening sequence because, the stereotypes
of Goths will make the audience fear
them and create a feeling of danger as
they are seen to be quiet but angry. Its also
very stereotypical for a goth to be seen as
an outcast subculture so for them to be a
main character in a film will influence
peoples views and hopefully add interest.

6. The Popular One
• Stereotypes of the Popular Girl subculture are:
•They are snobby and rich
•They are loud and demanding
•They are often bullies
•They dress in a slutty but posh manor
In my film we have chosen to include the
Popular stereotype as it largely contrasts
with the other subcultures included and to
have these 3 subcultures as best friends is
very unknown and it will allow the viewer
to see them differently and will hopefully
make it more interesting and intrigue the
viewer on how they all became friends.
This stereotype will be represented
through the character Vanessa who will be
played by Nicole Richards
