2. The genre explored in our short film is social realism, the title
of our production is ‘Enough’. Our short film explores the
wider social issues that happen on a daily basis, the film
allows the audience to connect and sympathise with the
character, who is domestically abused by her father and
conforms with the codes and conventions of social realism.

Realism
Social Realism in films is a text that is representative of real life
situations and difficulties
● Location shooting rather than filming in a studio
● Wide shoots that show a good view of the settings
● Non- professional actors
● Semi improvised scripts
● Seriousness
● Wider social issues explored via emotional and dramatic individual
stories

● Uses predominantly diegetic sounds, and held camera work
4. Location Shooting and Wide shots
- Social Realism films are often filmed in real life locations, for
example council estates, flats and parks.
- Using these locations, as opposed to fiming in a studio gives
the film a sense of realism for the audience.
- Social Realism shots tend to use a variety of camera shots but
majority of those shots are wide shots, to allow the audience
to know where the setting is and also giving them a good
understanding of whats going on in the film.
5. Non- professional Actors and Semi improvised Scripts
- In Social Realism films, the actors used are non- professional
and unknown actors, this enables the film to look realistic.
- Semi- improvised scripts are often used in order to achieve
realistic dialogue, such as everday to day normal life
conversations.
6. Seriousness and Wider social issues
- Social Realism films deals with a lot of day to day issues that
people experience that tends to involve the struggle to survive
the daily grind. The films generally include certain level of
seriousness and emotion.

- The narrative and characters protrayed are everday ones, usually from a
working class backgorund
- The narrative also represents the minority and under represented
- The genre uses a linear narrative
- The narrative is usually set in a time of big social change and focuses on
social injustices
