Arlington Road Evaluation

2. MISE EN SCENE
Location- the area looks like a rural or sub urban town or road,
which has large open spaces and an abandoned feel to it, for
example- the swings show no one on it despite still moving and
there are empty roads.
Characters- we see images of small children doing normal things
such as playing and a dog also chewing a ball in the garden. We
aren't introduced to any protagonist yet or any other older
characters. This and the lack of dialogue makes the whole area
seem uninhabited.

3. The props in the sequence only consist of objects such as road
signs, fences, flowers and houses. The props are fairly normal
everyday objects- which doesn't’t fit the sinister theme of the
opening sequence, so it confuses the viewer and makes us
wonder what they mean and how they might be linked in with the
plot of the film.
Costume- We see one man in the whole sequence and he is
wearing along trench coat, hat and is facing away from the
camera. This makes us wonder who he is and how he is relevant
to the props or scenery.

4. CAMERA SHOTS
Long shots are used In the title sequence, to show distance
shots of settings
Close ups or extreme close ups are used on unknown
objects such as fences, which confuses the viewer
Moving shots are used in the sequence to show houses and
makes the viewer feel like they are walking down the rural
roads.

5. EDITING
The images and clips move between each other at fast
speeds, giving the sequence an intense feel. The fade or
dissolve between clips makes us feel disorientated and
confused as clips merge together. There are also fast cuts
which make it so that images or clips aren't on screen for too
long, this lack of information makes us feel confused as well
as we try to piece what is happening together.

6. SOUND
The music in the clip creates an eerie atmosphere which
makes us as the viewers feel uncomfortable and no evident
storyline means that we are left clueless in a sinister area.
The loud noises and deranged vocals gives off a horror vibe,
as we see clips of innocent children, then quick cuts to
abandoned places makes us wonder if it is a flash forward
and what has happened to these children.
