a focus shot on a certain object, which may created intensity amongst the

effectively, especially with the type of music playing in the background.
■ Also, they tend to have a lot of images at the background which may relate to further
implications throughout the movie. These images could be seen to be symbolic
further on in the movie.
■ Referring back to the titles, they also appear in a scary manner, which also might
make the audience feel nervous as it is a thriller, which means it meets its

suspense, and the bold red credits create visual tension towards the audience.

remains hidden, and the tension of the hand may add to some sort of physical struggle.
- A loud crash of music comes through and then switches the camera to a shot of a gate. This is a
relatively large shot that is then followed by the camera closing in on the gate. This adds to the
suspense as it makes the audience wonder what will be behind the gates.
8. - The scene then changes to a close shot of a room that has flames, adding suspense.
- It then cuts to a shot of a gun, with a foot stepping onto it and then dragging it away. This adds a
sense of danger that could intrigues the audience even more.

black and red and music which is very suspicious, makes the overall mise en scene full of tension.
■
9. - The dark room tends to appear again which could show the audience that
it may contain some sort of handcuffs and chains. This gives the audience
some sort of clue of what the film may contain.
- The music takes a dramatic turn when the darkly lit scene is interrupted
with the strike of a single match. This powerful editing makes the audience
tense, and that feeling of 'keeping them on the edge of their seat'.
- There is then a long shot of a isolated island, which could connect with the
idea of being isolated in some sort of prison. This was earlier shown with
the use of bars and gates.
- The title is then shown in big bold red letters. The title then appears like it
is coming towards the audience, which adds to the visual tension.
