This treatment proposes a concept music video for the song 'Magic Tree' by Florens. 3. Treatment
Joan Lynch said there are three basic structures for a video: Narrative, Concept, and
performance. ‘Magic Tree’ by Florens is a song which has a synth style to it, and has a lot of
influences from technological instruments which means that it would fit well in the style of a
concept video, rather than narrative. There will also be elements of performance in this video
as well because that is a convention of music videos in this genre. Because it is mostly a
concept video, it will have many dramatic shots, such as silhouettes against sunsets and other
things which will help Florens develop a style- this is his first music video.
The video will start with some establishing shots of the first location. We will see close ups of
baubles on a tree and branches against a darkish sky. This will cut to a close up shot of my main
character with blue and red lights to create a magical effect. The overall atmosphere of the
introduction will be mysterious as we want to intrigue the viewer and initiate a curiosity inside
them as they want to know what direction the video is headed in. As the music builds up, the
shots become less vague and we understand that there is a connection between the character
and the tree.

4. There will be some mid shots of branches and trees which
will be slightly out of focus because the emphasis will be
on the sky behind them. This video will feature a range of
different sky settings- mostly dark to encourage the
mystery and magic of the theme.
After establishing the locations, the details become
clearer. We see a long shot of the main character walking
down a path. The lighting is dim to reflect the time of year
and also the mysterious mood. This will then cut to a
experimental shot of baubles, as baubles are the
decorations which adorn the magical tree. The use of red
and blue lighting will be continued to create a sense of
continuity and theme.
Throughout the video, we will have cuts back to the
character standing on the bridge- these will be a mixture
of long shots and mid shots to make it more interesting.

6. A tilt shot of bare branches leading
down to a graffiti bridge will help
establish the mysterious and
magical indie atmosphere.
After some more lip sync, there will
be a mid shot of the character
against the sun setting in the sky. It
is almost silhouette-like. This shot
is sped up and slowed down to
make it jumpier, and is mixed with
other camera lengths to keep it
interesting.
We will then see a close up of more
baubles hanging on the magic tree.
The next chorus will start with a
long shot of the character looking
at the tree with the wind blowing
through her hair for a dramatic
effect. The effect of this shot
doesn’t have to be clear as it is
abstract like most of the video.

7. This will be followed by more lip sync and then a close up of her eyes with the blue and red
lights. She blinks in time with the beat of the music.
She hen finally goes to grab a bauble off the tree. It starts off a long shot and then
becomes a close up tracking shot of her bringing the bauble back to have a look at. This
shot could be shaky or out of focus to keep in with the conventions already established in
this video where the filming isn’t perfect as this creates an effect of mystery.
A long tilt shot shows her walking over to the bridge with the bauble from behind. There is
a close up of the bauble in her hand as this is emphasising the importance of it, which may
not be known to the audience at this time. This then changes to show the front and the
audience can see her expression- determined yet lost.
There is another extreme close up of her eyes in the lip sync location to keep it divers- the
change of location will keep it interesting and more difficult to decode- adding to the
mystery.
We then see a mid shot of her standing at the side of the bridge holding the bauble. She
looks out over the water and landscape- perhaps making a wish?

8. This is followed by another abstract shot of the baubles moving around backwards this time
which means they go up in the air rather than down. A selection of close ups of her face in
different locations and different angles are used. One from the side and one from the front
shows her looking out over the bridge again. We then see some shots of the bauble in her
hands. It is a selection of close ups which have been edited together at a fast pace to almost
make it seem like one take, rather than lots of different takes.
There will be a mid/long shot of her standing in front of the tree which will be framed
perfectly and will have an aesthetically pleasing sky in the background- this music video is
about mystery but also beauty (in nature and places you wouldn’t expect to find it).
After this, the music changes slightly, so the editing will too. For example, there will be more
abstract shots and parts reversed than the rest of the video to show that
something significant is going to happen. This could be
symbolic of the wish coming true perhaps. The speed of
the shots from this pint on will be unnaturally fast or slow.
There will be some more close up lip sync at an angle.
Next, we will see a dramatic close up of one of the baubles
which has been sped up. The sun is setting in the
background and the bauble is a silhouette in front of it.
There will be a variety of different artistic shots and then
the last thing we see is the bauble she was holding
floating down the river with no explanation. Cuts to black.
