The Search Committee Chair Must Collect And Review The
The Search Committee Chair must collect and review the applications immediately before the
interview to ensure all signatures and relevant information (e.g. correct employment dates,
references, etc.) are complete. The Search Chair must sign page five of the Application,
acknowledging the fact that s/he has received and reviewed it. Note: Please ensure that candidates
complete the CUNY application in its entirety. All relevant work experience must be completed on
the application, with month and year, start and end dates, and a brief description of duties for each
position. Relevant information on the resume but not on the application will not be considered by
HR. This ensures the proper evaluation of the candidates experience against the ... Show more

Avoid a "halo" effect. This is when an interviewer allows one or two positive traits of a candidate to
affect his/her judgment in other areas. It can also apply to negative traits or characteristics.
Occasionally, applicants may volunteer non–job related information relating to religion, sex, marital
status, national origin, age, etc. during an interview, which can be used to discriminate. An example
is an applicant who talks about being divorced or about his/her children and childcare arrangements.
Even though you did not ask for the information, you can still be charged with discrimination if a
question arises subsequently about how this information was used. Should an applicant volunteer
non– job related information:
o Do not write the information down o Do not ask follow–up questions or make statements to
continue in the area of discussion
o Return the discussion to job related issues
o Do not consider the non–job related information in decisions about the applicant's candidacy.
Be careful not to overrate compatibility with other department staff/faculty because it can work
against diversity. Be wary of making assumptions about the candidate like:
o This person won't be happy here
o This person won't understand our students, our employees, our internal customers, etc.
o This person won't stay if we hire them.

Reflection Of The Curriculum Portfolio
How well does your portfolio reflect the course goals and requirements (as defined in the syllabus)?
My portfolio is able to meet the course goals because it clearly describes my personal goals in both
positions. They are both tailored to the position that I am applying for, in that they take words from
the application in my short answer and cover letter specifically. I worked to make my online
presence more professional with a fairly distinct change in my profile, that prior focused on my
current job, that now looks forward to the positions that I hope to achieve. With my research of the
audiences, I found two positions that I think will provide me with skills and experiences that will
help me reach my future goals as well. The requirements according to the syllabus as to having a
copyedited final version is met in this draft also, and the audience is kept in mind in all citations.
This material has been submitted on time, and includes all required portions therefore meeting the
remaining requirement for this paper.
What choices did you make as you crafted your message to a variety of audiences? What decisions
did you make about your writing in response to feedback from peers, your instructor, and your Real
Reader? Choose 1–2 significant revisions to discuss in detail.
In regard to the Curriculum Vitale, I chose to lump together my animal related experience and
research experience into one category of experience, as suggested by my real reader. I also joined

Recruitment And Selection Process Essay
As the business world is ever–changing, so is the process that companies use in selecting ideal
candidates. The most common way for companies to start the process of filling an open position, is
to create a job posting. Job postings are most commonly posted on popular online job websites, such
as Glassdoor or Indeed. Many of the companies will also use software that will sift through the
thousands of resumes received and select a group of candidates that it feels are ideal for the position.
The company will then proceed to interview those candidates. With software that selects resumes
based on keywords that are specific to the job, it only makes sense for candidates to tailor their
resumes to maximize the opportunity to achieve that initial interview. By creating a variety of
resumes and cover letters tailored to specific position openings, one increases his or her opportunity
to receive an initial interview and getting hired. Developed and developing economies have caused a
shift in the scope of business. As the world as a whole progress', jobs have become more
demanding. "In our knowledge–based economy, value is the product of knowledge and information.
Companies cannot generate profits without the ideas, skills, and talent of knowledge workers, and
they have to bet on people–not technologies, not factories, and certainly not capital" (Martin &
Moldoveanu, 2003, pg. 36). More demanding job requirements have caused companies to only hire
the best. "Workers now require more

Interview Skills Analysis
Interview Skills, Resumes, and Cover Letters
We discussed resume and cover letter tips and the importance of proofreading and modifying
resumes and cover letters before submitting them to an employer. We also discussed how to prepare
for an interview. Interviewees need to think of answers to commonly asked questions, work on
maintaining confidence and clarity when speaking, and prepare questions for the interviewer. I
learned that my resume is my first opportunity to introduce myself to a potential employer. Before
an employer ever meets me in person for an interview, the employer or a human resource personnel
person dissects everything that I state on my resume to form an opinion about who I am or what I
can offer. Therefore, it is critical that I list my most qualifying and unique ... Show more content on

However, treat everyone with respect and kindness in the workplace. Coworkers do not have to be
friends but they must coexist so, if the issue is able to be resolved and it becomes unbearable work
on transitioning out of the department or organization.
Younger versus Older Workers
In class, we discussed the rift that exists between younger and older workers in the workforce.
Employers are hiring more young workers that possess fresh ideas and technical skills that older
workers lack. Older workers often are content and are reluctant to learn new practices or skills.
I learned that employers also employ younger workers because employers can pay younger workers
less than older workers. Although there is rift between two generations of workers in the workforce
both generations of workers have knowledge beneficial to the other generation. Young workers are
needed to share their technical knowledge while older workers are needed to share their tried and
true knowledge of the industry.

Sample Cover Letter: Personal Narrative
Good Evening Cheri, Thank you for your post and kind words. I greatly appreciate it. From my
experiences, I truly believe that In a nutshell an individual's resume is a short snapshot of who they
are and why he or she is the best choice for the job. In today's job market, no matter what the job or
industry who are trying to enter, it is key that your resume catches a potential
opportunity's/employer's eye and tells the story they want to hear. I not saying fabricate your
abilities, but present the in a clear direct manner that makes the potential employer say, "Wow, I
(we) need to meet this person." However, be sure that you can back your resume. Do not make your
snapshot one of fiction. The other point I want to make is that if your resume

TEMPLATE
Some Points to Consider...
 Put your name and contact info at the top of the letter. Make sure your name is in a
font large enough to easily pick out.
 Whenever possible, address the letter to a specific person by name and title. Even if
responding to a job ad that states "no phone calls", consider calling to politely ask the
name of the hiring authority. Unfortunately, you may not always be able to identify the name of a
specific person. In which case, send the letter to the title of the recipient (i.e. Human Resources
Manager, Recruiter, Marketing Manager, Accounts Payable Supervisor, Office Manager, etc). Do
not use "To whom it may concern."
 State ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
 You may want to be proactive and state a general time when you will call the
employer to follow–up.
 Try to sign the letter in blue ink since it implies the letter is original and may get
more attention. Also appropriate ink color to use is black. Never use any other color on the cover
letter.
 Keep sentences short and to the point.
 Keep the entire letter brief – no more than one page with three to five paragraphs.
Make it quick and easy to read by using short paragraphs, bullet points, and sufficient white space.
 Use the same paper stock for both your cover letter and resume.

Peer Review Example
During last week class, I was peer reviewed by Cindy Huynh and Francesca Joo. Both of them gave
constructed and helpful advice to improve my resume. Their overall critiques were grammatical
errors and font size errors. The most helpful comment from Cindy Huynh was to personalize the
object for the intending internship/job. By personalizing the objective the employer will think that I
am really interested in the corporation and really want to get a job at that corporation. Francesca Joo
most helpful advice was to make the font more consistent. The first two sections contained smaller
font compared to the other sections. I thought that the smaller and bigger font will make my resume
stand out, but the resume just looks untidy. These two critiques ... Show more content on

The header/sub–header is bigger than the points was because I wanted the header to pop out and the
information to support the section. Second, I changed "Work Experience" to "Extracurricular
Activities" because I have no professional work experience. It will make no sense to put "Work
Experience" if I don't have any work experience. Third, I change the objective to be more
personalized to a specific job or internship. Finally, I changed all my action words to be past tense
from the present tense. To make sure that there were no misunderstandings for my experience. I
accepted all of their advice because it was logical and reasonable to make these changes to my
resume. Cindy Huynh recommended me to work on my formatting and list more skills in projects.
These two recommendations help me build up my resume by trying to pursue more experiences.
Francesca Joo suggested me to change all my words past tense and make my font more consistent. I
need to make my resume free of grammatical error, so I can show the employer I am not illiterate.
The font consistent will allow my resume to be atheistically

Resume : A Personal Marketing Tool
Resumes are a personal marketing tool with the purpose to showcase skills, accomplishments, and,
ultimately, land an interview. The resume will highlight the applicant's values through talents,
abilities, and achievements. A remarkable resume alone will not get the dream job, but suitable
selections in determining what information is used in a resume can make an applicant far more
noticeable to potential employers. There is not one defined way to generate a fabulous cover letter or
resume, but the best resumes are concise, result–oriented, and clearly presented. Step one is to
brainstorm. Take a moment to list your experience and skills that are relevant to the position you are
applying for. Take the time to study the job posting and think about how you want to illustrate that
you are the ideal candidate the employer is searching for. Most job postings have wish list of
preferred skills. Pay special attention to this list and try to think of how your experience
compliments and reflects those skills.
Keep in mind that this is the way you are introducing yourself to a potential employer and you want
them to deliberate that you are the perfect person for the job. Consider leadership roles,
demonstrated resourcefulness, skills, and keep the employer and job description in mind. Keep
whatever you list on your resume applicable and personalized to the position. Step two is to capture
it in writing. There are hundreds of resume examples on–line that can be

Good Cover Letters
When I decided to reenter the workforce and began the tedious and gut–wrenching task of sending
out resumes and good cover letters for resumes to every employer I could think of, I quickly realized
my hard work and tenacity were not getting me very far. I am a pretty decent writer, and I thought
my good cover letters for resumes were truly works of art. I was sure I would get at least an
interview for each and every one of these beauties.
But I was barely getting even so much as a courtesy confirmation that my good cover letters for

being fired. I canoodled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a sad reality in the corporate world where they still think they want one person per task,
instead of sharing the work load as a creative collaborative effort. So for my good cover letters for
resumes to really have the desired effect: (get me an interview) I needed to narrow their focus a bit.
You need to sound less fancy when writing your good cover letters for resumes.
What? This threw me for a loop. But she explained: My writing was in fact great. I had a very

Unfortunately this was not a good thing. In fact it was hurting my good cover letters for resumes for
two reasons, both of which are silly but true:
1. It makes me sound like an insufferable prig. Certainly not the impression you want your good

2. The managers I am applying with are likely less verbal, and might feel threatened if they were to
hire someone they viewed as possibly "smarter" than they are.

Resume Reflective Analysis
Reflective Analysis for resume Initially starting off, I had a resume previously used for my current
position. I originally wanted just to have that resume included, and work off of that. Through careful
evaluation, I realized I needed some changes. Originally, my resume had basic skills, a vague
summary, and bullet point highlights of what each career entailed. From reviewing examples of
resumes for the position I am applying to, I found differences in which I believe would be necessary
to add, and realization that I needed to apply an overall change for the better. For the structure of the
resume, I kept it simple with a summary, skills, and work history section, then broke the skills and
work history sections into 2 smaller sections. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ended up applying examples of this into one area of the resume, and break out by category.
Resumes I had come across had technical skills closer to the bottom, and general skills closer to the
top. From my perspective, it would be helpful to have these in one section of the resume, so that the
hiring manager can review first, which programming languages the applicant has knowledge in, then
what competencies are held outside of programming. In return, this helps the hiring manager to gain
an understanding of how the applicant can apply their overall knowledge to the position. Specific
skills in my resume included T–SQL, C#, JavaScript, user acceptance testing, technical analysis, and
material gathering, and each of these in fact applied to the job description in one area. Additional
skills were added that could be useful to the position as well. Prior to this assignment, for work
history, I had just used bullet points for specific tasks done on a daily basis. From looking at other
resumes for this field, key achievement fields stood out to me. I carefully selected my key
achievements to be geared towards using knowledge to help other teams, and utilizing applications
that are used in the position each day. In my opinion, this will give the hiring manager the
impression that I am knowledgeable in the applications

Career Goals For A Professional Career Goal
There must to be sacrifice and dedication on the road to obtaining a degree. That sacrifice and
dedication doubles when the student is a middle–aged adult with a full–time job and other financial
obligations. It is not easy juggling a full–time job and being a full–time student. The art of time
management is a valuable tool to master and will definitely help with balancing everything and
getting all tasks completed. Professional Career Statement Creating a professional career goal
statement can significantly impact a resume. According to (Starzee, 2012) a professional career goal
statement allows the candidate an opportunity to provide the employer a synopsis of the value they
intend to bring to the organization. Below is a professional goal statement for a Client Relationship

it shows that the professional is more than capable of performing the duties and also has the highest

I had two individuals review my resume from the view of a merchandising and retail field. The first
person that reviewed my resume was Tara Derricott. Tara Derricott is the Assistant Trade Book and
Gift Buyer at the BYU–Idaho University Store. Her biggest suggestion to me was to add a "skills"
section to my resume. She told me that when she helps with interviews and reads students' resumes,
she likes to see a skills section. This is because it helps her see if their personality and abilities work
with the company. She also commented that she really appreciated that I kept it to one page. In order
to keep it to one page I had to eliminate one of my experiences, which also fixed my experiences to
be in chronological order. The last suggestion she gave to me was to change the font of my name to

Cover Letter Benefits
A cover letter is necessary and very helpful for employers when filtering through multiple resumes.
To an employer a cover letter is a bit of a preview as to what the resume has to offer, while to a
prospective employee, a cover letter is a foot in the door. According to the Office of Career Services
at Harvard University, "A good way to create a response–producing cover letter is to highlight your
skills or experiences that are most applicable to the job or industry and to tailor the letter to the
specific organization you are applying to" (16). It is one's first impression in black and white and
states a clear desire and capability for the desired position. Think of the cover letter as one's voice
for their personality and drive that sets them apart from others, where as the resume is the facts and
details of one's experience and capabilities.
What most if not all sources for tips on writing an effective cover letter for a position within the
health care state, is the importance of focusing on the needs of the employer and highlighting your
capabilities, which match this need. This tip has been shared by scholars at Harvard University as
well as from the professionals at Monster Worldwide, a source responsible for endless professional

Obviously highlighting one's skills and capabilities is important, but more important to keep it short
and to the point so highlighting experience that pertains to the specific position desired. A tip that
was also noted throughout all sources of information was to avoid using personal pronouns, such as
"I". Shining a modest light on the skills and experience that will make one stand out the most
through a neutral yet assertive tone is a great goal for any resume within a health care position.

Chronological Resumes
Resumes are important in telling a potential employees story in a condensed version of their
educational and employment history. Employers generally prefer single–page resumes; however,
often a two–page resume is acceptable (Cardon, 2013). Moreover, including too much information
contributes to confusion or jumbled messages and in contrast may actually take away from the
important qualifications and abilities that are displayed. According to Cardon (2013), chronological
resumes are the most common and are preferred 75% of the time. Accordingly, chronological
resumes are designed in reverse order with the most recent work history and education listed first
(Gantner, 2010). Chronological resumes are beneficial in displaying a strong work history.
Consequently, these resumes are preferred when there are no gaps in one's work history. In addition,
chronological resumes are also best in displaying a young professional's education and skills
(Cardon, 2013). Key components of chronological resumes are the name block, summary of ...

Importance is placed on drawing attention to key skills and qualifications that an employee

It may be wise to create a whole new email address just for your job search. There is a lot of spam
these days and you do not want to take the chance of missing an email from a potential employer
due to having 101 new emails coming through a day.
Your phone number should be the contact number where you are most available. Whether this would
be a cell phone or a home phone, be sure that your greeting message is business appropriate and if
you have a ringtone on your phone for people calling you, it would be wise to change to a normal
ring during your job search. Again, you do not want any small detail to cause the hiring manager to

double space to type your potential new employer's contact information.
The employer's contact information section should include the hiring manager's name, if at all

Personal Reflection
As I was reading this book, I kept having awe moments because I have either seen the material
covered in real time or have thought about it. Out of the five career strategy components, the two
that stood out for me were extending experiences and networking/connecting. Reflecting on my
educational and professional career, these two themes have been the most relevant.
Extending experiences When I graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), I expected to get a job
within the month. I believed that by simply having my degree I would stand out from the group,
little did I know this was completely false. I had a resume with little experience and realized it was
my lack of previous experiences that would haunt me. In addition to having little experience, I never
visited a career counselor at UCSB to assist me with the proper structure of a resume and cover
letter. Feeling unprepared and disappointed at myself about how I used my time while at UCSB, I
fell into a minor depression. After every denial email from employers, my depression grew.
However, it was one experience that truly shaped my job search perception. I applied to any and
every job in the market and got the opportunity to interview for AT&T for a clerk position. Going
into the job interview I had high hopes because I knew I had the discipline. When I entered the
office where the interview was being held, the hiring manager asked me a few questions about
myself and then he stopped. He was looking over my resume and

According to the resume and cover letters section of Ohio State University's website, you should
include your contact information which would include your phone number, email address, your
major, and your GPA if above a 3.0. You also need to list any of your goals that you want your
future employer to know. You need to give your professional profile including your work history
and any honors or interests you have. You should never include any information from high school in
your resume. It is helpful if you update your resume when new experiences can be provided. You
need to show who you are in the business world and make sure that your resume is clear, consistent,
and constant.
So now that you know what your resume is and what you need to put into it you need to know how
to set it up. In setting up a resume there is no proper way of doing it. Just make sure that it is simple,
to the point, and clear for the employer to understand. You cannot do your resume in one hour, so
give yourself some time to review it and also have a rough copy to have other people review it. You
can look at samples online as there are numerous templates available. I have printed you off a
template to take home so that you may create your own resume. In the article by Erin Binns,
Uncovering Resume and Skill Building Opportunities in Today's Market, she says that you should
only have a one page resume, two at the most. Never ramble in your resume, get right to the point.

Cover Letter Reflection
Resume and Cover Letter Reflection Writing a resume and cover letter seems intuitively easy at the
first glance. Not much to it, just list all that's required, and you should be good to go. Yet this
assignment opened my eyes on how much detail can collude with results. When I started this
assignment, I listed everything as I thought it should be. But trouble to arise was when I read the
resume back to myself. One challenge I faced was to word things in an order, so they are short and
concise, yet descriptive enough to understand. Every time I thought I was being descriptive, it tends
out to be either too long or too confusing for anyone but myself to understand. there's a continuous
process of editing, re–editing, and editing some more. There

A Workshop Of Marketing Effective Resume Essay
Due to Hurricane Matthew our team rope challenge was cancelled and I was unable to attend the
team rope event. Instead, I attended a workshop of Marketing Effective Resumes & Cover Letters
on Wednesday, October 12th. This workshop was in a room in CBC 121. I feel like it was important
for me to attend this workshop because there is always room for improvement for resumes and cover
letters. At this workshop we first discussed the proper attire that is considered as business
professional. After discussing the proper attire, we discussed the layout and key aspects we should
all have on our resumes. Our resumes should start off with our name, address, phone number, and
email. It is completely optional but after this you can have an objective or a summary. However,
they do not recommend it because most of the time individuals mess this part up. Then it should
include your education. She emphasized that you should only put your GPA if you have a 3.50 or
higher. However, I followed up with a question. I was wondering if we should include both our
major GPA and overall GPA and if we do how it would be written. I asked this because most
accounting firms ask for an overall and accounting GPA. She then answered that you should only
include both GPAs if your accounting GPA is higher than your overall GPA. She stated this because
firms would then think that your major GPA is lower and you don't do as well in your core classes. If
this is the case then you shouldn't include any GPA,

When doing my cover letter I focused on how I can bring leadership and tell them what I will bring

technical school for high school and that I graduated in a networking class. The second thing I
highlighted is that I will be graduating with an associates in Information Sciences and Technology
with a Business option. I think when they see my education they will see that I have a lot of
potential in any job I go for. The information that will be less important for the cover letter will be
the past jobs that have nothing to do with the job that I am applying for. I think the tone in my letter
will be to get the reader's attention without be annoying.
Amazon.com: IT Support Technician
The second job I am looking at is an IT Support Technician at Amazon.com. This job is located in
Detroit Michigan. Amazon is in need of a support technician and I have some requirements for the

Writing Your Cover Letter
Writing Your Cover Letter: What Important Points Are You Missing?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), every resume that you submit to a potential
employer needs a cover letter. The purpose of the cover letter is to arouse interest and highlight core
competencies. Below explains
Separate your Resume and Cover Letter
One of the most common mistakes that job seekers make is to simply summarize their resume in
their cover letter. However, the primary purpose of the cover letter is to express your interest and
particular interest in the specific position. Therefore, use the cover letter as an opportunities to
express your personality and share your passion for your industry. For example, you could share
examples from your personal and work life that highlight your passion for the position and industry.
Proofread for Perfection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a well–written cover letter doesn't mean that content is engaging and even interesting.
Proofread for content quality to ensure that your cover letter smoothly flows. If possible, read the
cover letter out loud and logically analyze how it sounds. Does it make you sound intelligent and
professional, or does it ramble on with unnecessary information? If possible, have others proofread
your cover letter and provide feedback.
Be Professional, yet Personal
Cover letters must follow the standard business format, which includes proper salutation, opening,
body and closing. However, the cover letter is one of the best ways to sell yourself through
highlighting not only your qualifications, but your unique, pleasant personality. Keep in mind that
HR professionals will only spend a few seconds skimming through your personality, so it's better to
be honest and engaging, then stiffly formal. That is, reveal how passionate and upbeat you are, while
maintaining a professional tone.

First the type of degree. I'm currently working on my Associates but have complete intentions on

I should put Associates degree on the work sheet. On my resume and/or cover letter should I include

my GPA should I include it?
Second question I'm not sure about dates and what dates your asking for I still have no Idea when

Accounting At The University Of Florida
1. I am currently studying Accounting at the University of Florida with the possibility of pursuing an
education in tax law while in graduate school. Accounting appealed to me as a good major because I
am interested in how to develop or maintain a successful business. I choose to pursue an Accounting
over a General Business degree because learning the value of how to handle and manage finances is
critical to understanding how a business operates. An Accounting degree also opens up many doors
in the business world, which can help me achieve my goal of becoming a CFO or CEO.
2. Ideally I picture myself 5 years from now working as a basic accountant in one of the "Big Four"

Since Accounting is so hands on I believe experience shadowing or working with other accountants
would help me, because I would get to see how the accounting system works when everything isn't

teaches me what I can not learn in a classroom and helps expand my knowledge in that field
1. One skill that I learned while watching the Lynda.com videos was creating functions in tables to
help calculate averages, sums, products, etc. Learning how to use mathematic functions through
Microsoft Word can not only be helpful but in many cases essential for an accountant to learn. An
example of when this skill would be helpful is when I would need to prepare financial data into a
word document for a financial report. If I mastered this skill I would be able to input financial data
into tables and graphs much faster, which would allow me to spend more time on research and the
quality of my work. This tool is also useful because it shows that unlike many accountants in the
industry I can prove to my company that I am familiar with technology and that I am efficient.
Proving that I am an efficient accountant can be very valuable because many accounting companies
especially the "Big Four" look for graduates that have a strong accounting background but that are

me because I feel as though it is the most useful major offered through the business school. With a

I am not currently taking classes towards a minor, I plan on minoring in Real Estate. My brother is a
commercial real–estate agent, and his line of work is actually fairly interesting. Although I don't
exactly see myself pursuing the exact same thing, I feel it would be helpful in the future to have

I need to put all my effort into my classes so that I can get the highest grades possible, as well as

studies, so it's important I learn the material the first time around. Another experience I think would
be helpful in order to achieve my goal of getting into graduate school would be getting a great
internship. I plan on doing that by attending all the networking functions hosted by the University of
Florida as well as the business school. 1. One new skill I learned about Microsoft Word from the
Lynda.com video series is how to insert symbols into a word document. I was always under the
impression that in order to insert symbols you had to use the "shift" or "command" buttons and then
hit multiple other keys in order to find the right symbol, which I never really mastered. But, after
watching these videos, I learned that you can just put the cursor where you want the symbol to be
inserted, and then use the Media Browser button at the top of the word document, and then from
there you are able to browse through a list of all the symbols available and easily click on the one
you want to use. I believe mastering this skill will help me in the finance industry later on in life
because when I am trying to type up financial information about companies and need to use their
trademark logos I'm able to include that in the document. Also, finance deals with money, and if I'm

suggestions that I believe you should make to better show off your skills, experience, and value.
First off, you have some great experience and I have no doubt if you work hard you can get the
career that you deserve. The changes you should make are below. For your internship at Kingland
System Corporation, you should start off the 2nd bullet point with a stronger verb. I suggest
removing the words "Continued to" and started to bullet point with "Enhanced". Then I would
change that line to "Enhanced data quality over time by performing continual data clean–ups on new
and existing data." I would replace the 3rd bullet point with something else. That line doesn't

software did you use? Describe in more detail, so the reader can get a better idea of what you did.
The 4th bullet point, "Calculated risk . . " is a strong point and you should move it closer to the top
of that experience. The last bullet point, "Improve multitasking . . .", you must describe how you did
all that. Just saying you improved a skill and had to adapt doesn't mean anything unless you back it

You may consider it entry level, and to an internet resume rewriting concern, it could be. This isn't
Silicon Valley anymore, much less NYC. Companies here want to pay a receptionist's wage to run
the office. If an executive assistant clearing $35,000 15 years ago in another state receives between
$17, 500 and $18, 000 gross, she's lucky. Any office position of any kind in this neck of the wood is
few, far–between and flooded with applicants. In the land of huge families, it's to whom you're
related, and nepotism is therefore condoned. Temp agencies are asked to fill one or two clerical
contracts per year. (It would genuinely behoove you in your practice to consider location.) I was told
I'm overqualified on several interviews, so I have to be careful not to put on airs. Someone desperate
for a job, regardless of years and/or experience, must be prepared to accept minimum wage and
menial work. My salaried days of challenge, activity and pride are well over. The contributions of a

Reflection Of A Cover Letter
Business Letter
Cover Letter
In this course, I've learned the appropriate audience, purpose, structure, and voice for a cover letter.
A cover letter accompanies a resume and is written formally. It is used to convince the company that
you are fit to be hired, and to introduce yourself to them. The audience of a cover letter is the
manager of a business or company. The purpose is to introduce yourself to a potential employer and
to highlight any relevant skills you possess. The structure of a cover letter includes your address, the
date, the recipient's address, and a salutation. The opening paragraph states why you're writing,
establishes a point of contact, and gives a brief introduction of yourself. The body paragraphs
highlight some of the more important points from your resume. The closing paragraph should
politely request an interview at the employer's convenience. Identify what supplementary material's
being sent, such as a writing sample or a portfolio. The reader should be thanked for their
consideration and you should indicate that you're looking forward to hearing from them. There
should be a complimentary closing followed by your name and signature. The voice of a cover letter
should be polite, formal, and concise.
Inquiry Letter
In this course, I've learned the appropriate audience, purpose, structure, and voice for an inquiry
letter. A letter of inquiry is written when you're interested in working for a business but there's no
job posting or when information's being requested. The audience of an inquiry letter is a manager,
admissions officer, or a program coordinator. The purpose is to introduce yourself to a potential
employer or to request specific information. The structure of an inquiry letter includes your address,
the date, the recipient's address, and a salutation. The opening paragraph states why you're writing,
establishes a point of contact, and gives a brief introduction of yourself. The body paragraphs
specifically outline the information you're looking for. It is easier for the person to reply the more
specific your request is. The closing paragraph should make sure that the reader knows exactly what
you'd like them to do, such as phone you, send information, or email you. There

The Things You Are Covered About Careers In Class

thing because people can lie about so many things just to get a job. A cover letter is a letter that you

Careers are constantly changing within the job market which means applicants have to constantly
develop new skills to meet the requirements of that job. Transferable skills are essential in anchoring
your next career however, you should also consider whether your skills are compatible with the
career you have in mind. Employers always make sure that they hire the correct person for the
position they have open. You have to make sure that you actually want this job, it's suited to your
skills and that you will perform well in the given workspace. Always include why you think the
you're the right candidate for the job; be confident enough to state your opinion to your employer.
Allowing the employer to see how confident your desire is for this position will make them see how
well you will work; they'll want a person that can work comfortably in that job. Always mention
what you could bring to the workplace; how you could be an asset. Again, mention how your
transferable skills can be put to use to benefit the company that you have applied to work for.
Showing the employer how much they could benefit by hiring you is what will make you a more
desirable choice compared to your competitors, this is your opportunity to show what you're capable
of. Always have the confidence to state why you think you deserve this job and what you have to
offer. The job market is a competitive place, volunteering

Effective Cover Letter
So you have just finished creating the perfect resume and now need an effective cover letter to go
with it. Everyone knows that writing a great cover letter for a resume is extremely important. In fact,
the entire purpose of the cover letter is to sell your qualifications enough to get you an interview, but
there are a lot of little tricks that you can use to increase the chances of the employer actually calling
you.
A cover letter is essentially a marketing ad designed to sell your qualifications to an employer. So
where can we go to learn more about what works in a marketing advertisement? We actually get an
endless stream of highly refined marketing ads sent right to our mailbox. Yes, we can actually learn
something from the junk mail that we get every day. A lot of research goes into crafting the
messages in junk mail, so why shouldn't we take advantage of some of this research and put it to
some good use?
If you take some time and study your junk mail, you will see several things in common. Don't
worry, others have studied it for you so you don't have to worry about doing this yourself. One thing
you will notice about junk mail is that the vast majority have some sort of postscript (PS) at the end.
This is because research has shown that people will more likely read the PS ... Show more content

Again, we can gain some insights on this by looking at marketing ads. Effective marketing ads
always tell the reader what action they should take. Many letters are weak on the "call to action"
statement. A cover letter should be specific on the action you want the reader to take. So for your
letter, you can briefly reiterate your qualifications and politely request that the reader call you for an
interview to further discuss employment opportunities. You can also state that you will follow–up in
a few days with a phone call. This will demonstrate that you are motivated and on top of

  • 1. The Search Committee Chair Must Collect And Review The The Search Committee Chair must collect and review the applications immediately before the interview to ensure all signatures and relevant information (e.g. correct employment dates, references, etc.) are complete. The Search Chair must sign page five of the Application, acknowledging the fact that s/he has received and reviewed it. Note: Please ensure that candidates complete the CUNY application in its entirety. All relevant work experience must be completed on the application, with month and year, start and end dates, and a brief description of duties for each position. Relevant information on the resume but not on the application will not be considered by HR. This ensures the proper evaluation of the candidates experience against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Avoid a "halo" effect. This is when an interviewer allows one or two positive traits of a candidate to affect his/her judgment in other areas. It can also apply to negative traits or characteristics. Occasionally, applicants may volunteer non–job related information relating to religion, sex, marital status, national origin, age, etc. during an interview, which can be used to discriminate. An example is an applicant who talks about being divorced or about his/her children and childcare arrangements. Even though you did not ask for the information, you can still be charged with discrimination if a question arises subsequently about how this information was used. Should an applicant volunteer non– job related information: o Do not write the information down o Do not ask follow–up questions or make statements to continue in the area of discussion o Return the discussion to job related issues o Do not consider the non–job related information in decisions about the applicant's candidacy. Be careful not to overrate compatibility with other department staff/faculty because it can work against diversity. Be wary of making assumptions about the candidate like: o This person won't be happy here o This person won't understand our students, our employees, our internal customers, etc. o This person won't stay if we hire them. • 3. Reflection Of The Curriculum Portfolio How well does your portfolio reflect the course goals and requirements (as defined in the syllabus)? My portfolio is able to meet the course goals because it clearly describes my personal goals in both positions. They are both tailored to the position that I am applying for, in that they take words from the application in my short answer and cover letter specifically. I worked to make my online presence more professional with a fairly distinct change in my profile, that prior focused on my current job, that now looks forward to the positions that I hope to achieve. With my research of the audiences, I found two positions that I think will provide me with skills and experiences that will help me reach my future goals as well. The requirements according to the syllabus as to having a copyedited final version is met in this draft also, and the audience is kept in mind in all citations. This material has been submitted on time, and includes all required portions therefore meeting the remaining requirement for this paper. What choices did you make as you crafted your message to a variety of audiences? What decisions did you make about your writing in response to feedback from peers, your instructor, and your Real Reader? Choose 1–2 significant revisions to discuss in detail. In regard to the Curriculum Vitale, I chose to lump together my animal related experience and research experience into one category of experience, as suggested by my real reader. • 4. Recruitment And Selection Process Essay As the business world is ever–changing, so is the process that companies use in selecting ideal candidates. The most common way for companies to start the process of filling an open position, is to create a job posting. Job postings are most commonly posted on popular online job websites, such as Glassdoor or Indeed. Many of the companies will also use software that will sift through the thousands of resumes received and select a group of candidates that it feels are ideal for the position. The company will then proceed to interview those candidates. With software that selects resumes based on keywords that are specific to the job, it only makes sense for candidates to tailor their resumes to maximize the opportunity to achieve that initial interview. By creating a variety of resumes and cover letters tailored to specific position openings, one increases his or her opportunity to receive an initial interview and getting hired. Developed and developing economies have caused a shift in the scope of business. As the world as a whole progress', jobs have become more demanding. "In our knowledge–based economy, value is the product of knowledge and information. Companies cannot generate profits without the ideas, skills, and talent of knowledge workers, and they have to bet on people–not technologies, not factories, and certainly not capital" (Martin & Moldoveanu, 2003, pg. 36). More demanding job requirements have caused companies to only hire the best. "Workers now require more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Interview Skills Analysis Interview Skills, Resumes, and Cover Letters We discussed resume and cover letter tips and the importance of proofreading and modifying resumes and cover letters before submitting them to an employer. We also discussed how to prepare for an interview. Interviewees need to think of answers to commonly asked questions, work on maintaining confidence and clarity when speaking, and prepare questions for the interviewer. I learned that my resume is my first opportunity to introduce myself to a potential employer. Before an employer ever meets me in person for an interview, the employer or a human resource personnel person dissects everything that I state on my resume to form an opinion about who I am or what I can offer. Coworkers do not have to be friends but they must coexist so, if the issue is able to be resolved and it becomes unbearable work on transitioning out of the department or organization. Younger versus Older Workers In class, we discussed the rift that exists between younger and older workers in the workforce. Employers are hiring more young workers that possess fresh ideas and technical skills that older workers lack. Older workers often are content and are reluctant to learn new practices or skills. I learned that employers also employ younger workers because employers can pay younger workers less than older workers. Although there is rift between two generations of workers in the workforce both generations of workers have knowledge beneficial to the other generation. Young workers are needed to share their technical knowledge while older workers are needed to share their tried and true knowledge of the industry. • 7. Sample Cover Letter: Personal Narrative Good Evening Cheri, Thank you for your post and kind words. I greatly appreciate it. From my experiences, I truly believe that In a nutshell an individual's resume is a short snapshot of who they are and why he or she is the best choice for the job. In today's job market, no matter what the job or industry who are trying to enter, it is key that your resume catches a potential opportunity's/employer's eye and tells the story they want to hear. I not saying fabricate your abilities, but present the in a clear direct manner that makes the potential employer say, "Wow, I (we) need to meet this person." However, be sure that you can back your resume. Do not make your snapshot one of fiction. The other point I want to make is that if your resume ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Make sure your name is in a font large enough to easily pick out.  Whenever possible, address the letter to a specific person by name and title. Even if responding to a job ad that states "no phone calls", consider calling to politely ask the name of the hiring authority. Unfortunately, you may not always be able to identify the name of a specific person. In which case, send the letter to the title of the recipient (i.e. Human Resources Manager, Recruiter, Marketing Manager, Accounts Payable Supervisor, Office Manager, etc). • 10. Peer Review Example During last week class, I was peer reviewed by Cindy Huynh and Francesca Joo. Both of them gave constructed and helpful advice to improve my resume. Their overall critiques were grammatical errors and font size errors. The most helpful comment from Cindy Huynh was to personalize the object for the intending internship/job. By personalizing the objective the employer will think that I am really interested in the corporation and really want to get a job at that corporation. Francesca Joo most helpful advice was to make the font more consistent. The first two sections contained smaller font compared to the other sections. I thought that the smaller and bigger font will make my resume stand out, but the resume just looks untidy. These two critiques ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Third, I change the objective to be more personalized to a specific job or internship. Finally, I changed all my action words to be past tense from the present tense. To make sure that there were no misunderstandings for my experience. I accepted all of their advice because it was logical and reasonable to make these changes to my resume. Cindy Huynh recommended me to work on my formatting and list more skills in projects. These two recommendations help me build up my resume by trying to pursue more experiences. • 11. Resume : A Personal Marketing Tool Resumes are a personal marketing tool with the purpose to showcase skills, accomplishments, and, ultimately, land an interview. The resume will highlight the applicant's values through talents, abilities, and achievements. A remarkable resume alone will not get the dream job, but suitable selections in determining what information is used in a resume can make an applicant far more noticeable to potential employers. There is not one defined way to generate a fabulous cover letter or resume, but the best resumes are concise, result–oriented, and clearly presented. Step one is to brainstorm. Take a moment to list your experience and skills that are relevant to the position you are applying for. Take the time to study the job posting and think about how you want to illustrate that you are the ideal candidate the employer is searching for. Most job postings have wish list of preferred skills. Pay special attention to this list and try to think of how your experience compliments and reflects those skills. Keep in mind that this is the way you are introducing yourself to a potential employer and you want them to deliberate that you are the perfect person for the job. Consider leadership roles, demonstrated resourcefulness, skills, and keep the employer and job description in mind. Keep whatever you list on your resume applicable and personalized to the position. Step two is to capture it in writing. There are hundreds of resume examples on–line that can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Good Cover Letters When I decided to reenter the workforce and began the tedious and gut–wrenching task of sending out resumes and good cover letters for resumes to every employer I could think of, I quickly realized my hard work and tenacity were not getting me very far. I am a pretty decent writer, and I thought my good cover letters for resumes were truly works of art. I was sure I would get at least an interview for each and every one of these beauties. But I was barely getting even so much as a courtesy confirmation that my good cover letters for resumes were being received in the appropriate HR mailbox, much less an interview. This is a sad reality in the corporate world where they still think they want one person per task, instead of sharing the work load as a creative collaborative effort. So for my good cover letters for resumes to really have the desired effect: (get me an interview) I needed to narrow their focus a bit. You need to sound less fancy when writing your good cover letters for resumes. What? This threw me for a loop. But she explained: My writing was in fact great. I had a very extensive vocabulary and my sentences were complex and interesting. Unfortunately this was not a good thing. In fact it was hurting my good cover letters for resumes for two reasons, both of which are silly but true: 1. It makes me sound like an insufferable prig. Certainly not the impression you want your good cover letters for resumes to leave. 2. The managers I am applying with are likely less verbal, and might feel threatened if they were to hire someone they viewed as possibly "smarter" than they are. I originally wanted just to have that resume included, and work off of that. Through careful evaluation, I realized I needed some changes. Originally, my resume had basic skills, a vague summary, and bullet point highlights of what each career entailed. From reviewing examples of resumes for the position I am applying to, I found differences in which I believe would be necessary to add, and realization that I needed to apply an overall change for the better. Resumes I had come across had technical skills closer to the bottom, and general skills closer to the top. From my perspective, it would be helpful to have these in one section of the resume, so that the hiring manager can review first, which programming languages the applicant has knowledge in, then what competencies are held outside of programming. In return, this helps the hiring manager to gain an understanding of how the applicant can apply their overall knowledge to the position. Specific skills in my resume included T–SQL, C#, JavaScript, user acceptance testing, technical analysis, and material gathering, and each of these in fact applied to the job description in one area. Additional skills were added that could be useful to the position as well. Prior to this assignment, for work history, I had just used bullet points for specific tasks done on a daily basis. From looking at other resumes for this field, key achievement fields stood out to me. If you used in your pitch an example of your roomy and visually–even resume reformatting, people might be even more inclined to respond. I've been a support person with no bells or whistles or team–leading for many years, in one capacity or another. My resume is crowded and visually uneven. I brought the font down to the smallest standardized font size possible. I listed most everything I've handled on a regular basis in my brilliant career.
