History Of National History Day District Competition
Oh, have I caught your attention? Obviously, I did, with such an eye–catching blog post title like
that. Apparently Marc Gamayo beat me to a blog post of National History Day District competition
(I should have done it early, aaaaa) that took place at Ewa Makai Middle School where participants
would be interviewed for their projects and to know who are going to state competition. Warning!
Super long schedule of what I did on Saturday for NHD district competition. Skip to end for a recap
of what I did and thoughts from the experience. For my group 's interview, Quincee and me (yes,
sadly there was no Jacob), to my surprise, went well. I say this because I can say that I was prepared
and there was little to no hesitation in answering or responding to my interview, making a good
impression; however, my partner only spoke once and that was due to not being able to hear our
speaker and the eye contact confused him (Quincee). After the interview, there wasn 't much to do
since our interview finished at about 9:07 or so and there were no available activities, so we
(Quincee and me) explored the campus a bit more, and I have to say I 'm impressed; the campus was
more complex, the campus displayed wise students, and had air–conditioning that was spread to
pretty much every area (except the bathroom), so sorry, (I 'm gonna get hate from this) I think our

the world. Jonas Salk found the vaccine for polio which is a disease that paralyzes and possible kills

Dean William McEllroy talked Salk into joining the university full–time. Though the school's
research budget was a grant from the American Society for the Study of High Blood Pressure in the
amount of $1,800, he saw the opportunity to do two things. One was to continue the work he was
doing on influenza, second was to begin working with the polio virus. A few months after arriving in

As a Freshman at UB, I participated in the Leadership House Living Learning Community.
Surrounded by thirty other first–year students, we were encouraged to deeply immerse ourselves in

Sociological Perspective
Coming from AJP, I needed to cross Fifth Avenue to start my walk, and like what I had to do every
day when I had class at that building, I found myself once again waiting for the walk sign to appear
across the street. This Sociological Perspective of seeing society in our everyday lives showed how
the smallest personal choices, even the action of walking, is affected and shaped by society and how
it functions. As I was walking through Fifth Avenue, I noticed that there were buildings at every
corner of this long street. Students, some wearing Carlow gear while others wore Pitt gear,
populated the sidewalks, conversing with other students. As I got farther into Fifth Avenue, I could
see UPMC hospitals and signs with directions of entrances and parking lots. People populated the
end of the sidewalk in this street, waiting at the Bus Stop sign. In the area of Forbes Avenue, there
were a lot of restaurants, and I noticed many students walking to get in and eat.
The pedestrian traffic was very similar to the automobile traffic on the street. Through the
Sociological Perspective of seeing the general in the particular, I was able to identify the general
patterns of the group of pedestrians walking on the sides, including myself. There is a systematic
way in society that traffic runs, and as I was walking, I, along with the rest of the pedestrians near

My Life After High School
"What do you want to do with your life after high school" is a frequent question that I am asked
from family, faculty, and friends. Deciding what I want to do after high school was surprisingly
quite easy for me, considering the fact that I have known what I wanted to do since freshman year.
To find out more information about becoming an anesthesiologist, I conducted a research project on

I can't remember when I first heard about the University of Pittsburgh; I've lived in Pennsylvania my
entire life so Pitt was always in the discussion when in came to colleges. I do, however, remember
when I started seriously consider Pitt as somewhere I'd like to attend. In the Summer before my
senior year of highschool I was working a pizza place and one of my coworkers was attending Pitt
in Fall. Whenever we had shifts together all she would ever talk about was how excited she was for
school to start. Being that I was still in highschool and hadn't done any of my Summer work I didn't
share her sentiment While I was initially a bit annoyed by her enthusiasm eventually through
osmosis I started to absorb some of the information and it all sounded pretty good. As the school
year began and I started to get into the thick of college visits I added Pitt to the list of schools.
I finally got the chance to visit the school in late September and I was blown away. All the things I
she had told me were true. The city was beautiful; there were plenty of trees and grass and the
architecture was beautiful. All the buildings throughout campus were awe inspiring, most of all the
Cathedral of Learning. These buildings weren't just impressive on the outside, but on the inside as
well. The first floor of the Cathedral of Learning looked like something out of a medieval castle.

around since ancient times of the Greeks and Romans. Today's society is in a constant race to
understand new diseases and develop cures for the human body. Animal testing has deployed a big
part in nearly every medical discovery over the last ten years. They have helped scientists discover
treatments for diseases, such as Poliomyelitis and test products such as medicines and others for our
safety. It has changed many human lives. "Americans are living longer, healthier lives and we owe

The field got its name from General John Forbes who fought in the French an Indian war. Forbes
Field was built in 1908 and cost over one million dollars. The way the field was created was entirely
different from any other ballpark in the United States. Steel and poured concrete were the only

virus enters through the mouth and reproduces in the throat and intestines. The virus can be
transmitted through person–to–person contact such as coughing or sneezing or by feces. The most
common way that children developed polio was through contamination of feces on toys and on
hands which would then come in contract with the mouth. The very first polio vaccine contained
live and weekend forms of the poliovirus which was harmful still too little children. Later on, Jonas
Salk, an American scientist, virologist and medical researcher, developed a safe and effective polio

Dimes Foundation, Basal O'Connor, wanted to help Salk create the Polio vaccination. His goal was

College can be a pretty intimidating change. It is an entirely new lifestyle. You have to do
everything on your own, without any help from parents or guardians. So, when you choose a
college, it should be the perfect fit for you. I'm planning on researching two different colleges–
Duquesne University and Temple University. When choosing my future college, I will think about
the majors they offer, the location that they are in, and the extracurricular options that the university
provides.
Colleges can have an abundance of majors, but they may not acquire the major or field that you are
interested in entering. Both of the colleges that I am investigating have similar majors that I am
interested in. Temple University has a major for Entertainment Law (Temple University Degree
