Animal Farm Symbolism
In the novella, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, symbolism plays a great role. Symbolism
plays part in how the novel corresponds to the Russian Revolution. Throughout the novel you can
see how George Orwell uses symbolism to draw readers in and look for the true meaning in his
statements. All though, Animal Farm, is suppose to be about animals it's actual meaning holds so
much more. Animal Farm, is a clear symbol of the Russian Revolution in many forms, that can be
easily spotted throughout the book. "The true tarot is symbolism; It speaks no other language and
offers no other signs." –Arthur E.Waite. One of the strongest and most upright symbol swept
throughout the novel would be Manor Farm/ Animal Farm. Animal Farm also known by it's ... Show

the novel the animals tend to use the barn for their meetings and where they make rules. The

commandments were printed on the walls of the barn, "The commandments were written on the
tarred wall in great white letters that could be read thirty yards away." They used the barn to keep
authority in place, but after the downfall by Napoleon the barn lost it's true purpose. The barn

Symbolism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is all about symbolism. In this book it symbolizes the
Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin, an older dictator of Russia. This book symbolises so many
different things that some people can call bad. The main character, a pig named Napoleon
symbolises a dictator or leader, and no one wants a leader to be a dictator. A leader is supposed to
lead and follow the same directions he's giving but in this case, instead of following his direction, he
is sitting around doing nothing and watching everyone else do his job. By making everyone else do
his stuff, can symbolise someone hungry for power, or someone who thinks they're entitled to
certain things. The author uses something called syntax in this book. ... Show more content on

An example of how the author uses these literary devices is when Minimus wrote Napoleon a poem.
This poem read "Friend of Fatherless!.. Lord of the swill–bucket! Calm and commanding eye, like
the sun in the sky, Comrade Napoleon" (Orwell 65). This is comparing him to something he's not,
Napoleon is not a Lord, he is a pig. This book also uses this in the whole entire book. Animals do
not talk, they can not read and write and they can't build things. A reason the author did this was to
tell the story because its easier by using animals rather than humans. This is because humans don't
think that animals have feelings, so by giving animals a few feelings it makes it easier to write and
tell the story. It also is a way for people to learn about the dictatorships, a different way than flat out
saying Hitler was bad. This book uses symbolism to symbolise Napoleon as a dictator, but it also
symbolises a system of government. A way this book shows a system of government is by the use of
the seven commandments. These commandments can symbolise equal rights, and rules. In the
American Constitution, it reads "All persons born and naturalized in the U.S... are citizens of the
U.S... nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property" (14th Amendment). This is

How Does George Orwell Use The Symbolism Of Animals In...
Who would have thought that animals, yes I mean animals, could drink whisky and get drunk? Or
stand on two feet? Or even learn how to read and write? Forget that. Who could possibly imagine a
farm, that was completely ran by animals? Some may think it's dumb, others may think its brilliant.
Animal Farm written by George Orwell perfectly uses symbolism to tell a story. Now, did Orwell
use symbolism to simply protect him from outing the historical figures disguised in the book? Or
did he use it to solely to turn it into an easy read. In my opinion, he used symbolism to enrich the
central message. Each character, prop, action, and idea, resembled every bit and piece of the Russian
Revolution. All the way from the beginning, when the animals decided ... Show more content on

Mr. Jones was the owner or Manor Farm and he represents the last Tsar of Russia, Czar Nicholas, as
Mrs. Jones represents his wife, Alexandra. The pigs however were the communists. Old Major was
known to be the father of animalism, as he represents Karl Marx. Napoleon is Joseph Stalin, who
has been leading the farm from the beginning of the revolution. Squealer is not a representation of a
person, but is actually thought of as the Russian Media, which spread Stalin's version of the truth to
the animals. And Snowball was Leo Trotsky, whom was one of the original revolutionaries, soon to
be one of Stalin's biggest enemies, leaving him to be exiled from the farm. Orwell made sure to
include the communists as well as the workers, which were symbolized by the horses. Boxer
exemplifies the average working class, as he is dedicated, but not quite as intelligent. Mollie was
also a horse but who represents the members of the working class that remained loyal to Mr. Jones.
All these representations amplify the central message, but there are more then just the characters and
who they represent in real life. There are even more symbols that are used to exemplify abstract

Symbolism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Animal farm is a story of animals rebelling against their harsh human owner, Mr. Jones. The
revolution starts by a ig named old Major giving them the idea for the revolution, and the idea of an
equal society through animalism. Old Major dies, but the animals finally do rebell, and turn their
farm, known as Manor farm, into Animal farm. The farm is lead by the pigs, mainly Snowball and
Napoleon, because the pigs are smarter. They begin to learn and read and write the six
commandments to protect the animals and the equality. They promise to never become like the evil
humans. As the book continues, Napoleon and Snowball butt heads and argue. This leads to
Napoleon chasing snowball off the farm with his killer dogs and assuming all power. Continuously,
the pigs take more and more power from the other animals. Napoleon kills anyone who opposes him
with his dogs. One of Napoleon's most faithful workers, a horse named Boxer, got injured.
Napoleon promised to send him to the hospital but instead sent him to the slaughterhouse to be
turned into glue. The pigs start walking on two legs, wearing clothes, and become harsh leaders. By
the end of the book, the animals cannot tell the difference between a pig and a human (Orwell)
(Stephenson). George Orwell's book animal farm, uses large amount of symbolism. One popular
interpretation is that Animal farm is an allegory for the Russian revolution with the events and
characters relating to real life events, historical figures, and idea. Many

Symbolism In Animal Farm And The Lives Of Others
Animal Farm by George Orwell and The Lives of Others by Florian von Donnersmarck have
highlighted the dangers inherent in a Totalitarian society by using stylistic features. The stylistic
features used include, symbolism of art, and themes of corruption and hope. Animal Farm is an
allegory for communism, specifically the 1917 Russian Revolution the Stalinist era of the Soviet
Union and reflects on many of the events that lead up to the revolt. The Lives of Others is an
allegory for socialism, specifically the German Democratic Republic during the Second World War.
And although both focus on different times, both Orwell and Donnersmarck have used the power of
artistic expression in their respective works. The two texts use the symbolism of artistic expression
to show how totalitarian societies can use art to manipulate and control. In Animal Farm, Orwell
uses the song of 'Beasts of England' to show how the animals were easy to encourage to rebel,
whereas in Donnersmarck's The Lives of Others, Dreymann's plays are used to glorify the status
quo, which, throughout the film, change to show how the society is changing. This change of status
quo is evident at 006:46 at the beginning of the film where it is 'for the people' and very realistic by
being set in an actual workhouse, and again at 154:20 towards the end of the film where the play is
no longer realistically set in a workhouse and toned with shades of brown, instead, it's more
'western' and abstract. Although both texts

149,469,610 people have been killed by their own communist government. Scary statistic isn't it?
But what's more scary is how many people have been hurt by communism. If you want to see what
it's like to live in that kind of government you must read Animal Farm. George Orwell's book
Animal Farm is an interesting story of how animals create a communist government to survive after
taking over the farm from their farmer, Jones. Animal Farm is a must read because these animals'
struggles will cause it's readers look at governing in a different light and also because it has an
interesting use of symbolism. The struggles the animals face with their government can help readers
connect this to real people. This book can help the readers see the problems people face under
communist rule. On page 125 it is stated,"... animals on Animal Farm did more work and received
less food..." The animals can work as hard as they want, but they will still receive the same or less
than everyone else, just like the people in communist governments. The book shows readers that the
only people that ever gain anything in this kind of society is the government.
People are kept in the dark because their government withholds information from them, and Animal
Farm is no exception to this. Furthermore, the animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

government. One such example is shown on page 105 of Animal Farm,"Meanwhile life was hard...
Once again all rations were reduced, except those of pigs..." While the animals are in a deep crisis,
with a lack of necessities, the pigs who control the government are not deeply hurt. Furthermore
when a country lacks proper necessities, the people are the ones to suffer the most. Although this is
only one example, it must be stated that the whole story and it's characters symbolize a real life

Animals And Animal Symbolism In The Wars By Timothy Findley
Of the many important themes that appear throughout Timothy Findley's novel The Wars, the loss of
innocence is undeniably one of, if not the, most significant. When central character Robert Ross
goes off to fight in the War to end all Wars, the traumatic events he experiences strip him of his
docile nature. It should be noted that this loss of innocence in Robert Ross cannot be pinned down
to a single, sudden event or specific battle – rather, it is a process that unfolds slowly over the course
of the novel, and it is devastating. Perhaps more significantly, however, is that the loss of innocence
is strongly tied to another theme central to the novel – animals and animal symbolism. In The Wars,
animals and the natural world represent something pure and untainted by the war; whereas the world
of humans is war–torn and brutal. Robert himself appears to feel more at home with animals, and is
timid, fumbling, and awkward in front of other humans – at least in the early parts of the novel. It is
noteworthy, then, that in most landmark scenes in which some innocence is lost, an animal is always
present. At the beginning of the novel, Robert Ross comes across as timid and uncomfortable
around others, as well as a little naïve– his impressions of the world and its hardships are boyish and
altogether idealistic. When it comes to sea travel, Findley writes, "Calmer waters on earlier voyages
had given him [Robert] a false impression: the sea was... temperate. It rolled to your

More Intelligence can make someone more equal than someone with less intelligence. George
Orwell creates characters, which are animals, to create a good story and also discuss a real life
global issue thus making Animal Farm an Aesop fable. Reading the book literally the animals rebel
against the farm owner because he did not treat the animals equally, but after the rebellion the pigs
put themselves in power and did the exact same as Mr. Jones. Thematically the novel was inspired
by the Russian Revolution of 1917. Just like in the novel the Russian citizens felt unequally treated,
so they overthrew Tsar Nicholas II. Vladimir Lenin put himself in charge also treating people
unequally using propaganda to stay in charge. In Animal Farm, a political allegory, George Orwell,
the author, uses symbolism by introducing characters like Napoleon, sheep, and Boxer to show how
different levels of intelligence can establish different levels of equality. Boxer, a strong horse, had a
low overall intelligence level which made him only good for labor therefor his character symbolizes
a low working class in the real social world. Boxer was unaware and not able to realize how
Napoleon was misusing his power. Boxer just went along with the things he though were right
because he could not think as much as other animals on the farm. Boxer creates slogans such as, "If
comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right" and "I will work harder" which he put to use in his
everyday life (Orwell 51).

The Symbolism Of Clover In George Orwell's Animal Farm
Clover– Animal Farm The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is one to mock Communist Russia.
In the book Clover is meant to represent a common citizen who is having their doubts about what is
going on. The first time Clover is mentioned she is described as one of "two cart horses" (4). One of
her best friends is the second cart horse Boxer. They are together many times and have many
conversations. In multiple conversations Clover is motherly towards Boxer. The three main
characteristics of Clover are that she is caring, doubtful, and loyal. First off a characteristic of
Clover is caring. The book shows this by writing "Clover administered the medicine to boxer. In the
evenings she lay in his stall and talked to him" (11). Clover is caring for Boxer by giving him
medicine and by keeping him company. My symbol for this will be a heart. This works because a
heart represents love and care and that is what Clover shows in Animal Farm. When you are caring
for someone you usually love them or are a loving person which Clover is. These are my reasons for
choosing a heart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book shows this by writing "Clover who thought she remembered a definite ruling against beds.
But as it was there on the wall it must have done so." This shows that she is doubtful because she
doubting that the rules say "No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets"(66). She is doubting her
own memory because it is written up on the wall and she is illiterate so she can't read on her own.
My symbol for this is a broken magnifying glass. This is because Clover keeps on finding the right
information but can't seem to put it all together because she keeps on doubting herself. This is my
reason for choosing a broken magnifying

What Is George Orwell Use Of Symbolism In Animal Farm
Animal farm Used Everything About The Jungle Except the Meat
George Orwell's use of symbolism and character development with conjunction of imagery in
Animal Farm made his message very clear to the reader. Animal farm is most famous for being a
critique of the Russian Revolution; telling the development of Soviet communism in the form of an
animal fairy tale. Orwell achieved this by having every setting and every character being a symbol
for a class and the power that they hold. The farm itself represents Russia and the Soviet Union
under Communist Party rule; in the beginning of the novel it is called Animal Farm, but when the
pigs take control of the farm they change it to Manor Farm. However, to be more general, the farm
can be any nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A white stripe down his nose gave him a somewhat stupid appearance, and in fact he was not of
first–rate intelligence, but he was universally respected for his steadiness of character and
tremendous powers of work (Orwell 2).
Orwell uses Boxer to embody the working class who are too naïve in their trust of good intentions
that they are unable to recognize the political corruption. Boxer believes that the pigs are doing what
is right for Animal Farm and will follow their orders till death. The reader feels sympathy for the
naïve horse, reading about the dreadful tasks he endures through, all of this with a can–do attitude.
The reader feels an emotional connection with Boxer, and they all breakdown for Boxer's famous
death scene. When the animals are almost complete with the construction of the windmill, Napoleon
discovers that the money Mr. Frederick gave him for the timber was forgeries. Mr. Fredericks
attacks Animal Farm with a large group of armed men. The farm Animals fight back and win with
heavy cost of death and poor patriotic Boxer being injured. Even with a serious injure Boxer shows
no sign of pain and refuses to leave his work. However, Boxer's health begins to fade and Napoleon
calls for an ambulance to take him to the

Introduction
Symbolism is a literary device and a form of indirect expression. It enables the author to
demonstrate reality, while giving the reader the opportunity to conclude and analyze. Thus it adds
depth to the meaning of the literary work. It functions as pictures and colors in art that represent
thoughts and emotions. Animal Farm is a fable. A fable is a story, in which all characters are animals

Snowball resembles Trotsky, who took control of the military, and was successful in creating a
victory against Krensky in November. Trotsky also set the Red army that succeeded in ending civil
war in Russia in 1920. Trotsky created an economic plan that evolved trade with other nations.
Considered as an internationalist, he was exiled in 1928 by Stalin: the last major character in the
story, who is Napoleon. Napoleon used studded dogs with collars to spread fear among animals and
exile Snowball. A similar power was used by Stalin, in which he used the secret police. Napoleon
also followed snowball's schemes, but he put animals under harsh working conditions. Such
conditions were common among the Soviet Union, where ten million workers died, due to
starvation. Even though, growth was apparent in both the Soviet Union and Animal Farm, workers'
conditions didn't improve. Soviet economy posted an estimated average annual growth rate in gross
national product (GNP) of 5.8% from 1928 to 1940, 5.7% from 1950 to 1960, and 5.2% from 1960
to 1970 (Investopedia). Only the Bolshevik party or pigs took advantage of the growth and used
propaganda to show otherwise.
Conclusion
George Orwell showed dexterity in creating obvious resemblance between both the story characters
and the Soviet leaders. Therefore, Animal Farm could be considered a true master piece in the usage

All Animals Are Equal
Animal farm is a fable written by George Orwell. Animal farm takes place on a miserable farm
where the animal's owner is a drunken negligent irresponsible owner, Mr Jones. The animals on the
farm unite together and take over the farm. George orwell fills this story with symbolic figures and
events to depict the development and history of the soviet revolution. manor farm where the story
takes place symbolizes russia under the control of mr. jones who symbolizes Tsar Nicholas ii.
Orwell uses symbolism to depict Mr. Jones as a farm owner because farm owners have many
responsibilities in order to take care of animals, just like tsar nicholas ii who had many
responsibilities for his people. Manor farm is a place of misery and injustice because it was
controlled by mr jones who doesn't know how to successfully run his farm. Mr. Jones did not care
about feeding his livestock which led to starvation on the farm animals. "[just like] when tsar
nicholas ii was in control, his people were on a food shortage in homes, [which] resulted in most of
the russian population to be in the state of poverty"(weebly.com).
Orwell uses farm animals to symbolize historical figures and events that represented the incidents of
the russian revolution. To begin with Old Major the wise old boar who seeds the thought of
communism has a life changing impact on the farm animals from the speech he gives. " Old Major

Animal Symbolism In The Metamorphosis
Animals have been a popular use for literary symbolism in many works. Crows represent ominous
events that are to come and for some Eagles are American patriotism. The novel The
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and the graphic novel Maus by Art Speigleman are popular
examples of animal symbolism. In The Metamorphosis, Gregor Samsa awakes one morning to find
that he has become a bug while in Maus there are multiple examples of animal symbolism from the
Nazi Cats to the Jewish Mice during the Holocaust. Both Speiglman and Kafka use animals to
symbolize certain groups of humans, if animals were portrayed as humans or different animals the
effect of the symbolism would not invoke such a serious response to the audience. Gregor Samsa
from The Metamorphosis is transformed into a disgusting vermin or cockroach based off the given

Speigelman portrays the Jews as mice, Nazi's as cats, and Polish as pigs along with some side
groups such as the American dogs and French frogs. Just like Kafka, Speiglman portrays real people
as animals to dehumanize them for the audience's comprehension and understanding. The Jews are
portrayed as vermin, like Gregor in The Metamorphosis, who the Nazi's believe need to be
exterminated. Which is why the Nazi's are portrayed as cats. Stanislav Kolář makes the same
conclusion in their essay Animal Imagery in Kosinski's The Painted Bird and Spiegelman's Maus.
Mice are vulnerable victims, cats embody aggressive perpetrators (how many animated cartoons are
based on these antagonistic characters, e.g. 'Tom & Jerry'!) and pigs may evoke dirt, laziness, a
liking for comfort, and indifference. Here Spiegelman appears to be in a certain amount of trouble;
if we apply our stereotyped projections of animals, we can understand why the Polish public felt

Symbolism and Allegory in Animal Farm
Symbolism and allegory in three aspects of Animal Farm : Old major, The Windmill and The Seven
Commandments George Orwell uses symbols throughout the novel Animal Farm to show how the
upper class groups use manipulation to their advantage. Animal Farm in simple terms is the allegory
of a revolution gone sour. Animalism, Communism, and Fascism are all the symbols which are used
by the pigs as a means of satisfying their greed and lust for power. As Lord Acton wrote: "Power
tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" which is definitely the case. The author uses
the animals, the windmill, and the seven commandments to symbolize the extreme power over the
animals (workers commune). "Writers such as Jonathan Swift use allegory to ... Show more content

The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Workers of the
world, Unite!". Old Major leaves his animals with a similar message for revolution and to remind
them of this goal, he teaches them the anthem Beasts of England which is continued to be sang for
years after his departure. The animals willingly embrace Major's visionary ideals of socialism
(animalism), but the pigs themselves gradually twist the meanings of his words through their
regime. This is a symbol of the abuse in power from Stalin. Lastly Orwell makes the death of Major
more realistic by adding elements from Lenin's death ; the same way in which Lenin's remains were
put on show, Major's skull is also displayed to all the animals.
The Windmill is a powerful object that is a symbol of both industry and the manipulation that
existed by the pigs. Secondly the windmill is a symbol for Stalin's(Napoleon's) 'Five–Year plan'.
Just as The Windmill was promised to make the animal's life easier, the 'Five–Year Plan' was
supposed to improve industry and in turn the working class's lives by increasing production and
allowing the soviets to shorten the work–week. Just like the windmill, Stalin's plan was a failure.
This destruction of the windmill is symbolic for the failure of the Five Year PlanAfter the
destruction of The Windmill, the Animals decided to build another one and in real–life, Stalin kept

William Golding's stance in 'Lord of the Flies' implies that humans will often succumb to their dark
and primal desires, and very rarely to their civilised ones (seeing only Ralph and Piggy considered
their civilised mannerisms) (Green, 2016). Psychologists theorise about a 'Tripartite' –or three
aspects– of the mind. 'ID' which is a humans most primal desires; and the 'Super Ego' which is the
ethical values that person believes to be right and wrong. These two facets combine to the third,
which is referred to as 'Ego' (Conscious mind) (McLeod, 2016). Golding started to believe that
humans inherent desire is savagely based (Green, 2016). There was a 'Beastie' on the island with the
boys, in which all boys became frightened of. The Beastie was an imagining of the boys inspired by
the body of a dead fighter pilot in the trees suspended by his parachute. As the boys became less
inclined to follow rules and go hunting, they saw the Beastie more and more often. The Beastie
finally manifested into a physical being as the 'Lord of the Flies' for the boy Simon, through the
form of a pig's head. This Beastie was the metaphor for the savagery in the boy's minds –their ID
facet– and only Ralph, Piggy and Simon could see past this to their Super Ego (civilised) mindset.
One can also apply this mindset directly to the characters

Symbolism In Animal Farm
Confusion, hunger, anger, and the unknown ran through the minds of those whom were caught in
the middle of the Russian Revolution. Their hard work towards their dream of a better life was put
to shame by their once companion, turned leader, Stalin. The leader who the people of Russia
believed, and were told, could be their equal and lead Russia to the glory of guaranteed jobs, food,
hospitalisation, education, housing, and pension plans through Communism. Of course, as history
would have it, this glory was short lived. The novel Animal Farm depicts the revolution by
facilitating it so that it is easier to understand the mood and the events that occurred. The author,
George Orwell, does this by using animals on a farm as the pawns of the Russian Revolution.
Although this novel is seen as a well–written classic, the importance of the novel has been
overlooked. This novel shows the results of what can happen when too much trust in given to one
individual without being judged and held against his/her actions accordingly. It is important to not
forget what happened to prevent future mistakes. In Orwell's Animal Farm a contributing factor to
the confusion of the animals were that the pigs, which worked less, received more rations than the
other animals. It was explained that the pigs needed more rations to stay healthy, as they were
mandatory to the success of Animal Farm. This, to the animals, clarified why in an equal society one

Symbolism and Literary Techniques in George Orwell's...
George Orwell's Animal Farm is an allegoric fairy tale type novel that uses irony, satire, and
allegory to portray the true identity of media censored Communist Russia. Because of the
relationship between America and Communist Russia during WWII, Animal Farm was not
originally received with warmth because it was thought of as harmful propaganda. But then, during
the Cold War, when US–USSR relations soured, George Orwell's novel was finally read. George
Orwell, the pseudonym of Eric Blair, conceived the basis of Animal Farm during his tenure at Eden,
a prestigious English boarding school. It was here where Blair founded his belief in Socialism, a
centralized government that controls all economic procedures and enterprises. Socialism is ... Show

The most blatant use of irony that occurs in Animal Farm is the manipulation of the
Commandments, symbolizing the Communist Manifesto, by the pigs to cater to their own whims.
An extremely good example of this type of manipulation is the Commandment "No animal may
sleep in a bed." Once the pigs start liking the comfort of beds, they have Squealer change the
Commandment in the middle of the night to "No animal may sleep in a bed with sheets."At this
time, the animals notice that the Commandment has been changed, and start asking questions. Their
uneasiness is quickly quelled by the manipulative Squealer, allowing the pigs to keep
unquestionable control, without a doubt of uneasiness, on the farm. Another prominent example of
the irony used in the book is at the final pages of the novel in the line, "All animals are equal, but
some animals are more equal than others." This single line is the most important in the book,
because in the few words it is written in, it completely epitomizes the era of Communist Russia. It
highlights the corrupt and unjust hypocrisy of a nation built on morals that are completely ignored
and manipulated for those in power. Another facet of Animal Farm that it is built upon is allegory.
Allegory is a work in which the characters and events are to be understood as representing other
things and symbolically

Essay One With the Animals: Symbolism of the Animals in...
Animals come to represent, both purity and the relationship human beings have with the world.
Animals play a key role in Timothy Findley's novel, The Wars, whether it's for the interference,
necessity, affection or compassion towards the characters. In The Wars, several characters share this
close bond with the animals, that serve to emphasize the different qualities of each character's
personality. The animals connect with the main character, Robert Ross, in ways that reflect his
uncommon character and the obstacles that he faces throughout the war. Robert enlists into the army
as a Canadian soldier, shortly after the tragic death of his younger sister, Rowena. Throughout the
novel, Robert grows a connection with the soldiers in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Robert sees the rabbits as innocent bystanders, in the middle of a war between human arrogance and
complete madness. Rabbits reflect a defenseless and pure Rowena, that Robert feels has been
destroyed by the war. As the war goes on, the reader notices the appearance and thought of Rowena
and the rabbits slowly disappearing. "Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a rabbit beside the road.
Then he heard a rush of wings. Something exploded. The rabbit disappeared." (Findley 179) This
was the last time Robert sees a rabbit, signifying the innocence once seen with his sister and her
love for the rabbits, becoming forever lost within him. "Everything was in there– including the
picture of Rowena. Robert burned it in the middle of the floor. This was not an act of anger– but an
act of charity." (Findley 178) Robert Ross also shares a special bond with horses and a coyote.
Roberts numerous encounters with these animals, signify the step towards not understanding only
the animals, however himself. Robert being a soldier learns the importance of survival and the duty
to kill. "Always to trust the horse's judgment above his own when it came to path–finding." (Findley

instance, when Robert is out following the coyote, the coyote guides him to water that is safe to

Language And Symbolism In George Orwell's Animal Farm
George Orwell's 1946 novel Animal Farm, uses the animals of Manor Farm as a metaphor for the
Russian Revolution and the spread of Stalinism, in order to show the corruption of Communism.
Squealer demonstrates that true communistic power is demonstrated not with the dictator, but by the
mouth who speaks for him. Squealer represents propaganda. Stalin's propaganda used language and
symbolism, along with exaggeration to keep the public under control. Squealer's arguments even
sound alike to Pravda, a paper that was the Soviet Party's official voice in the 1930's. Propaganda
was widely used during the Russian Revolution. Its purpose was to spread ideas through

Orwell shows the dangerous power of propaganda in the Russian Revolution, and how it can control

Pi Animal Symbolism
Meaning Behind Animal Story/Human Story in Life of Pi Life often presents individuals with
situations that go beyond the literal meaning associated with such events. A person, an object, or
even an action can take upon itself an entirely different idea than what meets the idea. Writers may
employ such symbols to convey various themes in a work. For example, the storyline in The Life of
Pi presents many connections between animals and humans. The animals on the life raft are
believed to be human survivors that Pi had been with. Throughout the novel, there are many signs of
connections between these characters and why each one was assigned to that animal. In developing
such connections between the animals and the humans, the author delves ... Show more content on

One connection is the fact that the Bengal Tiger only makes one kill yet is the most feared animal by
humans (Life of Pi Novels for Students Milne). The Tiger killed the hyena because it killed Orange
Juice. This would make sense in the human version of the story that Pi would only kill once he has
the anger and energy to kill his mother's murderer. The tiger is symbolized as courageous and
ferocious which Pi sees himself both as which is why he chose the Bengal Tiger. The tiger is very
focused on survival such as eating and drinking, Pi has mastered this on his 227 day journey just
like a tiger does in the wild. The tiger also symbolizes Pi's inner animal coming out when his mom
is attacked and is a turning point that shows what he must do to survive (Life of Pi Novels for
Students Milne & Constantakis). Survival is one of the many themes in the Life of Pi showing what
must be done in order to live on the life raft. Pi must do things he never thought he would ever have
to do to continue living. For example he had to kill the cook to protect himself and to avenge his
mother's death. He also must learn that he has to keep his distance from Richard Parker and how to
keep him satisfied so that he will not eat Pi. He also learns to provide food not only for protection
from Richard Parker but also to feed himself so that he can survive on the raft. Another theme that

Life Of Pi Symbolism Essay
Due to Pi's devotion to all of his faiths, particularly Hinduism, not only changed how he thought
about his current situation, but also changed how he would think about every single situation after in
Martel's Life of Pi.
Hinduism deeply changes Pi for the good, although people don't believe his story, Pi is convinced
that through his faith, he survives crossing the Pacific Ocean. There is also a great amount of
symbolism in Martel's novel, from the Tiger, to even the travel itself, symbolism plays a great deal
in the Book.

One of the biggest parts of the symbolism is the tiger, Richard Parker. He could be compared with
many things, but I like to compare Richard Parker to Pi himself, with Richard Parker being a direct
link to Pi's sanity and wellbeing. Hindu belief includes the transferring of the soul to new bodies,
and I think that perhaps Richard Parker is Pi's soul, reincarnated into the form of a tiger. What better
to symbolize Pi than a tiger? Tigers live in harsh environments that hold no remorse for them, as
does Pi, living in the harsh waters of the Pacific Ocean for two hundred and twenty seven days. As it
is not real reincarnation being depicted in the novel, as they both exist at the same time, it can still
be used as a representation of reincarnation. The other animals the beginning may also symbolize
other objects. I think that the other animals may symbolize the conflicting emotions inside of Pi.
The hyena, the part of Pi that wanted to eat the other animals for food. The zebra, symbolizing the
hurt part of Pi, wanting to give up. The orangutan, the part of him that wanted to defend himself and

The Themes Of Symbolism In George Orwell's Animal Farm
George Orwell's allegory of the farm animal's triumph in Animal Farm to the Russian Revolution in
both totalitarian manner and results exposes how absolute power destroys equality and results in
unfettered totalitarian rule. Orwell's satire of equality demonstrates a leader's methods of
ostracization of opposing parties and use of propaganda to dominate a society, self–interest
infiltrating a role of leadership causing a polity to turn totalitarian, and ability to force harsh
conditions on the working class. George Orwell's Animal Farm unveils the reality of spiteful human
nature and corrupt societies through insightful characterizations and conveys negligent leaders'
oppression of oblivious followers through apprehensive moods and interwoven symbolism.
George Orwell's deliberate contrast of characters through details of the animals' dialogue and
actions provides evidence as to why human nature does not allow for a utopian society. The distinct
disparity among Napoleon and Snowball causes them to engage in conflict and create a divide in
their developing nation. Orwell portrays Napoleon's selfish methods as nefarious, which causes the
audience to feel uneasy about his morality and the future of the farm under his supervision: "
[Napoleon] walked heavily round the shed, looked closely at every detail of [Snowball's] plans and
snuffed at them once or twice, then stood for a little while contemplating them out of the corner of
his eye; then suddenly he lifted his leg, urinated over the plans, and walked out without uttering a
word" (Orwell 55). As Napoleon sabotages the gracious flow of improvements to Animal Farm, he
poses an explicit distinction between Snowball's efforts to improve Animal Farm, and his goal of
authority over the farm. Animal Farm's narrator provides insight on how Napoleon, a totalitarian
leader, manipulates the other farm animals in his rise to power:
"By the time [Snowball] had finished speaking, there was no doubt as to which way the vote would
go. But just at this moment Napoleon stood up and, casting a peculiar sidelong look at Snowball,
uttered a high–pitched whimper of a kind no one had ever heard him utter before. At this there was a
terrible baying sound outside, nine enormous dogs

Symbolism In Animal Farm
Pigtatorship The story, Animal Farm, portrays a significant amount of symbolism. The book itself is
representing symbolism throughout the entire story. Animal Farm, or Manor Farm, delineates the
Soviet Union. The author, George Orwell, wrote this book during the time when dictators were

major political movements of his times, including imperialism, fascism, and communism." ("George

he wrote Animal Farm. He uses symbolism with the moral of the story and with the characters as
well. Animal Farm represents the Soviet Union by becoming a government that uses a dictatorship

Russian Revolution because communist rule started coming into control. The characters of Animal

Boxer Symbolism In Animal Farm
Animal Farm Essay
Animal Farm is an allegory of the Russian Revolution. It is an ironic story written in the form of a
fairy tale. By writing Animal Farm as a fable, George Orwell is able to demonstrate the corruptivity
of communism during the Russian Revolution and the effects it had on all the people in simple
symbolic terms by using the growth and expansion of communism as a story that is taking place on
a farm with talking animals. One of the most important symbols in the novel is Boxer, the horse.
Boxer is an important symbolic character because he represents the working class of Russia, his role
on the farm is a work horse, and he threatens Napoleon's power by being strong, kind, and relatable
to the other working farm animals. Boxer is a significant character throughout the novel ... Show

Orwell illustrates Boxer's lack of intelligence, even giving an example in which Boxer cannot
memorize the alphabet past the letter 'd'. Boxer decides to ignore the difficulty of learning the
alphabet by saying that the first three letters were enough so that he had more time to work. Orwell
symbolizes the proletariat by saying that the working class cannot grasp the understanding of basic
things, so they just ignore it and keep working. He displays the way that the working–class people
thought by making "I will work harder!" (Orwell 25) his simple motto. He says this in instances
when he does not get the desired result he wants, and works that much harder in order to achieve his
goal. An example of this is shown when the first windmill the animals had completed had been torn
apart by a storm and he declared that he would work harder so that all of the animals that were
distressed would want to work harder and so things would get done. This relates to the people
because they had given up their lives to laboring. Orwell uses Boxer's statement and overall
mentality to show that the proletariat are at least partially at fault for

Examples Of Symbolism In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Within the book animal farm, there are several examples of symbolism that represents our history.
George Orwell created this book to represent idols from the Soviet Union. One of the main
characters, Napoleon, from the book is a direct symbol of Stalin and Tyranny. Another account is
Snowball who is directly connected to Trotsky and is a common of scapegoats politicians use. The
last example is of Boxer the work horse who represents the working or peasant class. Orwell
depicted the character Napoleon to closely resemble the tyrannical leader Stalin. Within the book,
Napoleon made several choices that were parallel to those of what Stalin did when he was rising to
power. When Stalin came to power, he was ruthless and took as much power as he wanted to and
kept it to himself, Napoleon does the same thing by exiling a political opponent and "announced that
from now on the Sunday–morning Meetings would come to an end" and everything "would be
settled by a special committee of pigs, presided over by himself" (Orwell 38). This was Napoleons
first steps to power as were the same for Stalin. Stalin said that he was improving the workers
conditions however in secrecy, he was hoarding all the luxury for himself and his closest comrades.
This goes the same way for Napoleon, he kept the milk and apples produced by the farm to himself
and "it was mixed everyday into the pigs' mash" (Orwell 25). Orwell used these specific examples
to directly portray and symbolize him as Stalin. The last

Political Symbolism In George Orwell's Animal Farm
George Orwell's classic emblematic novella "Animal Farm" is a political satire in which he criticises
Josef Stalin and Stalinism. He felt that the Soviet Union, under Stalin, was starting to turn into a
dictatorship, and that many people were holding Stalin under high reverence. It is a chilling story
that besides symbolizing Russia, also conveys many important messages, one of the major ones
being how power can corrupt people. Rather than using humans as characters in his story, Orwell
uses different animals of different personalities to symbolize actual historical figures in Russia and
their roles. Initially, seduced by the idea of a communist government, the animals worked to drive
out their cruel master Mr. Jones. Life without Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, Napoleon told them that he would deal with the milk, and sent them to follow Snowball and
do the harvest. Later, it was found that the milk was gone when the animals returned. In addition,
the apples that were supposed to be for all the animals ended up being mixed in with the pigs' mash
only. In explanation for this, Napoleon got Squealer to speak to the animals and tell them that milk
and apples contained nutrients that were essential to a pig's well–being. If the pigs did not get these
foodstuffs, Squealer said, then they would be unable to prevent Mr. Jones from taking over the farm
again. The animals did not want this to happen at all, so they readily agreed with Squealer.
Continually in the story, Squealer continues to make use of this point in order to make the animals
agree with him. The animals continued to live life happily, except that there were now several some
signs indicative that something bad might occur. Snowball and Napoleon were always found to be in
disagreement with each other, even over the most insignificant matters. One issue they argued over
was education for all versus education for the young only. Snowball worked to set up reading and
writing classes for all the animals, whereas Napoleon took it upon himself to educate the newly born
puppies, keeping them in such seclusion that everyone forgot their existence. This was not the most
troubling issue though. Their biggest debate

In the graphic novel "Macbeth," by William Shakespeare, the symbolism of animals and nature is
common and readers can often find it. Shakespeare's plays are often confused within its complex
language use but by applying reference to the creatures, it can help the readers to understand the
play better. In this particular play, both picture and quote have been skillfully distributed to
emphasize the relationship between characters and the events occurring. On page 33, top left panel,
Lady Macbeth says "it was the owl that shriek'd, the fatal bellman, which gives the stern'st good–

Introduction
The Mayor of Casterbridge is one of the masterpieces and the imperishable novel of Thomas Hardy,
although it has never enjoyed the popularity of Tess and Jude. Hardy was at the height of his
creative powers when he began work on it at the age of forty four. Initially, the novel appeared
serially, in twenty installments, in 1886 in an English periodical, The Graphic, and was published in
book form in 1886 after revising for two or three times. The book appeared as soon as the serial
publication was complete but it differs a lot from the serial novel. It is a magnificent novel, although
Hardy himself was not entirely happy about it.
It was a story which Hardy fancied he had damaged more recklessly as an artistic whole, in the
interest of the newspaper in which it appeared serially, than perhaps any other of his novels, his
aiming to get an incident into each week's part causing him in his own judgment to add events to the
narrative somewhat too freely.1
On the first reading of the book, it seems to be a straightforward story but on deeper analysis one
can see that it is replete with symbols which have their own significance and that can be interpreted
variously if we analyze them as Thomas Hardy himself wrote while The Mayor of Casterbridge was
coming out serially that, "My art is to intensify the expression of things...so that the heart and inner

Symbolism Of Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm
Which mechanisms of power that are portrayed in Orwell's 1945 Animal Farm do the pigs use to
gain authority over the other farm animals?
An idealistic utopia cannot become reality, because political and social revolutions rarely manage to
hold onto the original purpose of the revolution. This idea is represented in Orwell's Animal Farm,
which serves as a literary parallel to the Russian Revolution ("Animal Farm"). Animal Farm
revolves around a group speaking animals, led by pigs, who revolt against their owners and attempt
to create a utopia following "animalism", where every animal is equal and does not follow any of
the habits possessed by humans. However, the pigs rise to a state of dictorialship, intentionally

In the case of Animal Farm, Squealer, who is good at communicating with the other animals with
his cunning words, often makes excuses for the pigs choice. This is visible, when the pigs seize the
apples and milk. "'The whole management and organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and
night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those
apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Yes, Jones would come
back! Surely, comrades,' cried Squealer, 'surely there is no one among you who wants to see Jones
come back?' Now if there was one thing that the animals were completely certain of, was that they
did not want Jones back." (Animal Farm 14) Squealer refers to the pigs' job as their duty, and says
that they work hard for the good and welfare for the other animals, therefore suggesting that more
food is required for the pigs. By stating this, he is luring the animals into a guilty conscience and
attempts to connect with them on an emotional level. The pigs generate the entire narrative in order
to achieve a luxurious and comfortable life by using a large portion of other animals' resources. By

construction represents Stalin's five–year plans for industrialization. The windmill construction is
constantly delayed and extended just like Stalin's five–year plans. The plot of Animal Farm is made
of many events. There is the initial rebellion of the animals against Farmer Jones. This rebellion
begins the rest of the story and struggles that come along. The animals are left having to figure out
how to run the farm themselves while also keeping law and order. The pigs, Napoleon and

Uses Of Symbolism In Maus By Vladek Spiegelman
The Holocaust was a horrible atrocity. This event killed six million jews and seventeen million
victims overall, but many jews survived to tell the story of how it was inside the camps and how
they were treated. One was Vladek Spiegelman, a resourceful man that had it rough during the
Holocaust. His son, Artie Spiegelman, wrote the book Maus which he tells the story of his father
when he was in Auschwitz and tells about his life in the time Artie is writing the book. In Artie's
book, Maus, he uses a lot of symbolism in his work to get his point across. In Maus, Art Spiegelman
uses symbolism to help the readers understand his characters and the conflicts they face, along with
much more. To find symbolism, one must first know the meaning of the term. Symbolism is defined
as the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Symbolism is used all the time to help the
audience understand what they are reading or seeing. Artie uses symbolism to define the characters
he put in the book by drawing them as animals instead of humans. He also had different examples of
symbolism like the conflict on the character's mask, his father's resourcefulness, his mother's

Symbolism In Animal Farm
Everyday symbols can be found almost anywhere. In the novel, Animal Farm by George Orwell,
symbols are ubiquitous. Three of the major symbols in Animal Farm are the windmill, Animalism,
and the pig named Napoleon. A line from the text reads, "All animals are equal, but some are more
equal than others" (Orwell #). This proves the allegory of the story, which is that the whole book
represents communism in the Russian Revolution. Orwell carefully embodied small symbols that
added to the effect of the biggest one. How he intricately paints the picture is how an artist paints a
portrait, including all the smallest details, in the case of Animal Farm it would be down to the
smallest symbols.
One of the major significant symbols in Animal Farm is the windmill. Orwell writes, "The animals
were somewhat surprised to hear Napoleon announce the windmill was to be built after all... he
merely warned this extra task would mean very hard work; it might even be necessary to reduce
their rations" (Orwell #). The quote above proves that the windmill represents government
manipulating their people. Within the government at Animal Farm the pig Napoleon was the leader
and he had all the animals work on the windmill while he sat back and gave orders. Most of the
animals were working very hard and were getting less food due to the time spent on the windmill.
Furthermore, while everyone else was getting less food, barely enough to keep them going, he was
manipulating them. He convinced them he needed food because he used his brain to keep them all
alive. Additionally, this clarifies that the windmill represents how government manipulates their
people because Napoleon was head of the government and basically the whole government. This
means he was the mastermind and manipulated everyone into benefitting him in someway. In the
end, Napoleon is the government who manipulates their people in the Russian Revolution.
Another example to support this claim is Animalism. An example from the text says, "Whatever
goes upon two legs is an enemy. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. No animal
shall wear clothes. No animal shall sleep in a bed. No animal shall drink alcohol. No animal shall
kill any other animal. All

Symbolism of Animals in Charlette's Web
In E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, E.B. White introduces a few farm animals and some farm pests. In
this story a blood–thirsty spider turns out to be the best friend that anyone could ever have. The
stubborn pig ends up being very dynamic and lucky by narrowly escaping death multiple times with
the help of his friends. The last character is commonly symbolized as selfish and uncaring and
Templeton the rat matches his symbolism, although he does not learn morals in the story, he teaches
them. E.B. White uses the opposite of the characters symbolism to learn and teach morals
throughout the novel. In Charlotte's Web E.B. White makes all the characters not act how they are
depicted in society, and she shows this most with Charlotte. When ... Show more content on

Pigs are sometimes compared to how stubborn people can be. Pig–headed is a term people use to
describe people that do not listen to advice and are very stubborn. ("Merriam–Webster".)Wilbur
shows that he is not stubborn by listening to the goose. "' One of the boards is loose, push on it,
push–push–push on it, and come on out,"' (White 17.) Despite the goose's speech problems Wilbur
listened to the goose and escaped the pen for a short while. Gluttony is pretty commonly associated
with pigs mainly because of their ability to consume massive amounts of slop in one sitting. They
also symbolize gluttony in society and overeating. People sometimes call one another pigs when
they eat a lot. Even though these are pretty common traits for pigs, Wilbur is neither a glutton in real
life nor does he symbolize gluttony. He was fed only a little scraps from the family, and that makes
it impossible for him to be a glutton. He showed not being a glutton by giving Templeton food. "He
planned to leave half a noodle and a few drops of milk," (White 75.) To me this shows that Wilbur
was not just thinking about himself. The last characteristic about a pig is their laziness. A pig lying
in a mud puddle sums up what laziness is. Wilbur may have to live in a pen filled with manure, but
he is constantly getting active, conversing with farm animals, and trying to save his life. He also had
to be extra mobile whenever Charlotte spelled radiant in her web. "He would spring into the

Animal Farm Symbolism

  • 1. Animal Farm Symbolism In the novella, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, symbolism plays a great role. Symbolism plays part in how the novel corresponds to the Russian Revolution. Throughout the novel you can see how George Orwell uses symbolism to draw readers in and look for the true meaning in his statements. All though, Animal Farm, is suppose to be about animals it's actual meaning holds so much more. Animal Farm, is a clear symbol of the Russian Revolution in many forms, that can be easily spotted throughout the book. "The true tarot is symbolism; It speaks no other language and offers no other signs." –Arthur E.Waite. One of the strongest and most upright symbol swept throughout the novel would be Manor Farm/ Animal Farm. Animal Farm also known by it's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The barn is a symbol of the seat of the government, the barn is where authority is held. Throughout the novel the animals tend to use the barn for their meetings and where they make rules. The animals use the barn as if it were a courthouse it holds higher purpose than what it shows. The seven commandments were printed on the walls of the barn, "The commandments were written on the tarred wall in great white letters that could be read thirty yards away." They used the barn to keep authority in place, but after the downfall by Napoleon the barn lost it's true purpose. The barn simple in looks and complex in meaning held justice and ... • 2. Symbolism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is all about symbolism. In this book it symbolizes the Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin, an older dictator of Russia. This book symbolises so many different things that some people can call bad. The main character, a pig named Napoleon symbolises a dictator or leader, and no one wants a leader to be a dictator. A leader is supposed to lead and follow the same directions he's giving but in this case, instead of following his direction, he is sitting around doing nothing and watching everyone else do his job. By making everyone else do his stuff, can symbolise someone hungry for power, or someone who thinks they're entitled to certain things. The author uses something called syntax in this book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of how the author uses these literary devices is when Minimus wrote Napoleon a poem. This poem read "Friend of Fatherless!.. Lord of the swill–bucket! Calm and commanding eye, like the sun in the sky, Comrade Napoleon" (Orwell 65). This is comparing him to something he's not, Napoleon is not a Lord, he is a pig. This book also uses this in the whole entire book. Animals do not talk, they can not read and write and they can't build things. A reason the author did this was to tell the story because its easier by using animals rather than humans. This is because humans don't think that animals have feelings, so by giving animals a few feelings it makes it easier to write and tell the story. It also is a way for people to learn about the dictatorships, a different way than flat out saying Hitler was bad. This book uses symbolism to symbolise Napoleon as a dictator, but it also symbolises a system of government. A way this book shows a system of government is by the use of the seven commandments. These commandments can symbolise equal rights, and rules. In the American Constitution, it reads "All persons born and naturalized in the U.S... are citizens of the U.S... nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property" (14th Amendment). This is the fourteenth amendment which symbolises equal protection in a government system, that everyone is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does George Orwell Use The Symbolism Of Animals In... Who would have thought that animals, yes I mean animals, could drink whisky and get drunk? Or stand on two feet? Or even learn how to read and write? Forget that. Who could possibly imagine a farm, that was completely ran by animals? Some may think it's dumb, others may think its brilliant. Animal Farm written by George Orwell perfectly uses symbolism to tell a story. Now, did Orwell use symbolism to simply protect him from outing the historical figures disguised in the book? Or did he use it to solely to turn it into an easy read. In my opinion, he used symbolism to enrich the central message. Each character, prop, action, and idea, resembled every bit and piece of the Russian Revolution. All the way from the beginning, when the animals decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. Jones was the owner or Manor Farm and he represents the last Tsar of Russia, Czar Nicholas, as Mrs. Jones represents his wife, Alexandra. The pigs however were the communists. Old Major was known to be the father of animalism, as he represents Karl Marx. Napoleon is Joseph Stalin, who has been leading the farm from the beginning of the revolution. Squealer is not a representation of a person, but is actually thought of as the Russian Media, which spread Stalin's version of the truth to the animals. And Snowball was Leo Trotsky, whom was one of the original revolutionaries, soon to be one of Stalin's biggest enemies, leaving him to be exiled from the farm. Orwell made sure to include the communists as well as the workers, which were symbolized by the horses. Boxer exemplifies the average working class, as he is dedicated, but not quite as intelligent. Mollie was also a horse but who represents the members of the working class that remained loyal to Mr. Jones. All these representations amplify the central message, but there are more then just the characters and who they represent in real life. • 4. Symbolism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell Animal farm is a story of animals rebelling against their harsh human owner, Mr. Jones. The revolution starts by a ig named old Major giving them the idea for the revolution, and the idea of an equal society through animalism. Old Major dies, but the animals finally do rebell, and turn their farm, known as Manor farm, into Animal farm. The farm is lead by the pigs, mainly Snowball and Napoleon, because the pigs are smarter. They begin to learn and read and write the six commandments to protect the animals and the equality. They promise to never become like the evil humans. As the book continues, Napoleon and Snowball butt heads and argue. This leads to Napoleon chasing snowball off the farm with his killer dogs and assuming all power. Continuously, the pigs take more and more power from the other animals. Napoleon kills anyone who opposes him with his dogs. One of Napoleon's most faithful workers, a horse named Boxer, got injured. Napoleon promised to send him to the hospital but instead sent him to the slaughterhouse to be turned into glue. The pigs start walking on two legs, wearing clothes, and become harsh leaders. By the end of the book, the animals cannot tell the difference between a pig and a human (Orwell) (Stephenson). George Orwell's book animal farm, uses large amount of symbolism. One popular interpretation is that Animal farm is an allegory for the Russian revolution with the events and characters relating to real life events, historical figures, and idea. Many ... • 5. Symbolism In Animal Farm And The Lives Of Others Animal Farm by George Orwell and The Lives of Others by Florian von Donnersmarck have highlighted the dangers inherent in a Totalitarian society by using stylistic features. The stylistic features used include, symbolism of art, and themes of corruption and hope. Animal Farm is an allegory for communism, specifically the 1917 Russian Revolution the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union and reflects on many of the events that lead up to the revolt. The Lives of Others is an allegory for socialism, specifically the German Democratic Republic during the Second World War. And although both focus on different times, both Orwell and Donnersmarck have used the power of artistic expression in their respective works. The two texts use the symbolism of artistic expression to show how totalitarian societies can use art to manipulate and control. In Animal Farm, Orwell uses the song of 'Beasts of England' to show how the animals were easy to encourage to rebel, whereas in Donnersmarck's The Lives of Others, Dreymann's plays are used to glorify the status quo, which, throughout the film, change to show how the society is changing. This change of status quo is evident at 006:46 at the beginning of the film where it is 'for the people' and very realistic by being set in an actual workhouse, and again at 154:20 towards the end of the film where the play is no longer realistically set in a workhouse and toned with shades of brown, instead, it's more 'western' and abstract. • 6. Symbolism In George Orwell's Animal Farm 149,469,610 people have been killed by their own communist government. Scary statistic isn't it? But what's more scary is how many people have been hurt by communism. If you want to see what it's like to live in that kind of government you must read Animal Farm. George Orwell's book Animal Farm is an interesting story of how animals create a communist government to survive after taking over the farm from their farmer, Jones. Animal Farm is a must read because these animals' struggles will cause it's readers look at governing in a different light and also because it has an interesting use of symbolism. The struggles the animals face with their government can help readers connect this to real people. This book can help the readers see the problems people face under communist rule. On page 125 it is stated,"... animals on Animal Farm did more work and received less food..." The animals can work as hard as they want, but they will still receive the same or less than everyone else, just like the people in communist governments. The book shows readers that the only people that ever gain anything in this kind of society is the government. People are kept in the dark because their government withholds information from them, and Animal Farm is no exception to this. Furthermore, the animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Animals And Animal Symbolism In The Wars By Timothy Findley Of the many important themes that appear throughout Timothy Findley's novel The Wars, the loss of innocence is undeniably one of, if not the, most significant. When central character Robert Ross goes off to fight in the War to end all Wars, the traumatic events he experiences strip him of his docile nature. It should be noted that this loss of innocence in Robert Ross cannot be pinned down to a single, sudden event or specific battle – rather, it is a process that unfolds slowly over the course of the novel, and it is devastating. Perhaps more significantly, however, is that the loss of innocence is strongly tied to another theme central to the novel – animals and animal symbolism. In The Wars, animals and the natural world represent something pure and untainted by the war; whereas the world of humans is war–torn and brutal. Robert himself appears to feel more at home with animals, and is timid, fumbling, and awkward in front of other humans – at least in the early parts of the novel. It is noteworthy, then, that in most landmark scenes in which some innocence is lost, an animal is always present. At the beginning of the novel, Robert Ross comes across as timid and uncomfortable around others, as well as a little naïve– his impressions of the world and its hardships are boyish and altogether idealistic. When it comes to sea travel, Findley writes, "Calmer waters on earlier voyages had given him [Robert] a false impression: the sea was... temperate. It rolled to your ... • 8. Symbolism In Animal Farm More Intelligence can make someone more equal than someone with less intelligence. George Orwell creates characters, which are animals, to create a good story and also discuss a real life global issue thus making Animal Farm an Aesop fable. Reading the book literally the animals rebel against the farm owner because he did not treat the animals equally, but after the rebellion the pigs put themselves in power and did the exact same as Mr. Jones. Thematically the novel was inspired by the Russian Revolution of 1917. Just like in the novel the Russian citizens felt unequally treated, so they overthrew Tsar Nicholas II. Vladimir Lenin put himself in charge also treating people unequally using propaganda to stay in charge. In Animal Farm, a political allegory, George Orwell, the author, uses symbolism by introducing characters like Napoleon, sheep, and Boxer to show how different levels of intelligence can establish different levels of equality. Boxer, a strong horse, had a low overall intelligence level which made him only good for labor therefor his character symbolizes a low working class in the real social world. Boxer was unaware and not able to realize how Napoleon was misusing his power. Boxer just went along with the things he though were right because he could not think as much as other animals on the farm. Boxer creates slogans such as, "If comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right" and "I will work harder" which he put to use in his everyday life (Orwell 51). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Symbolism Of Clover In George Orwell's Animal Farm Clover– Animal Farm The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is one to mock Communist Russia. In the book Clover is meant to represent a common citizen who is having their doubts about what is going on. The first time Clover is mentioned she is described as one of "two cart horses" (4). One of her best friends is the second cart horse Boxer. They are together many times and have many conversations. In multiple conversations Clover is motherly towards Boxer. The three main characteristics of Clover are that she is caring, doubtful, and loyal. First off a characteristic of Clover is caring. The book shows this by writing "Clover administered the medicine to boxer. In the evenings she lay in his stall and talked to him" (11). Clover is caring for Boxer by giving him medicine and by keeping him company. My symbol for this will be a heart. This works because a heart represents love and care and that is what Clover shows in Animal Farm. When you are caring for someone you usually love them or are a loving person which Clover is. These are my reasons for choosing a heart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book shows this by writing "Clover who thought she remembered a definite ruling against beds. She is doubting her own memory because it is written up on the wall and she is illiterate so she can't read on her own. My symbol for this is a broken magnifying glass. • 10. What Is George Orwell Use Of Symbolism In Animal Farm Animal farm Used Everything About The Jungle Except the Meat George Orwell's use of symbolism and character development with conjunction of imagery in Animal Farm made his message very clear to the reader. Animal farm is most famous for being a critique of the Russian Revolution; telling the development of Soviet communism in the form of an animal fairy tale. Orwell achieved this by having every setting and every character being a symbol for a class and the power that they hold. It enables the author to demonstrate reality, while giving the reader the opportunity to conclude and analyze. Thus it adds depth to the meaning of the literary work. It functions as pictures and colors in art that represent thoughts and emotions. Animal Farm is a fable. Considered as an internationalist, he was exiled in 1928 by Stalin: the last major character in the story, who is Napoleon. Napoleon used studded dogs with collars to spread fear among animals and exile Snowball. A similar power was used by Stalin, in which he used the secret police. Napoleon also followed snowball's schemes, but he put animals under harsh working conditions. Such conditions were common among the Soviet Union, where ten million workers died, due to starvation. Even though, growth was apparent in both the Soviet Union and Animal Farm, workers' conditions didn't improve. Soviet economy posted an estimated average annual growth rate in gross national product (GNP) of 5.8% from 1928 to 1940, 5.7% from 1950 to 1960, and 5.2% from 1960 to 1970 (Investopedia). George orwell fills this story with symbolic figures and events to depict the development and history of the soviet revolution. manor farm where the story takes place symbolizes russia under the control of mr. jones who symbolizes Tsar Nicholas ii. Orwell uses symbolism to depict Mr. Jones as a farm owner because farm owners have many responsibilities in order to take care of animals, just like tsar nicholas ii who had many responsibilities for his people. Manor farm is a place of misery and injustice because it was controlled by mr jones who doesn't know how to successfully run his farm. Crows represent ominous events that are to come and for some Eagles are American patriotism. The novel The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and the graphic novel Maus by Art Speigleman are popular examples of animal symbolism. In The Metamorphosis, Gregor Samsa awakes one morning to find that he has become a bug while in Maus there are multiple examples of animal symbolism from the Nazi Cats to the Jewish Mice during the Holocaust. Both Speiglman and Kafka use animals to symbolize certain groups of humans, if animals were portrayed as humans or different animals the effect of the symbolism would not invoke such a serious response to the audience. The Jews are portrayed as vermin, like Gregor in The Metamorphosis, who the Nazi's believe need to be exterminated. Which is why the Nazi's are portrayed as cats. Stanislav Kolář makes the same conclusion in their essay Animal Imagery in Kosinski's The Painted Bird and Spiegelman's Maus. Mice are vulnerable victims, cats embody aggressive perpetrators (how many animated cartoons are based on these antagonistic characters, e.g. 'Tom & Jerry'!) and pigs may evoke dirt, laziness, a liking for comfort, and indifference. Symbolism and Allegory in Animal Farm Symbolism and allegory in three aspects of Animal Farm : Old major, The Windmill and The Seven Commandments George Orwell uses symbols throughout the novel Animal Farm to show how the upper class groups use manipulation to their advantage. Animal Farm in simple terms is the allegory of a revolution gone sour. Animalism, Communism, and Fascism are all the symbols which are used by the pigs as a means of satisfying their greed and lust for power. As Lord Acton wrote: "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" which is definitely the case. Old Major leaves his animals with a similar message for revolution and to remind them of this goal, he teaches them the anthem Beasts of England which is continued to be sang for years after his departure. The animals willingly embrace Major's visionary ideals of socialism (animalism), but the pigs themselves gradually twist the meanings of his words through their regime. This is a symbol of the abuse in power from Stalin. Lastly Orwell makes the death of Major more realistic by adding elements from Lenin's death ; the same way in which Lenin's remains were put on show, Major's skull is also displayed to all the animals. The Windmill is a powerful object that is a symbol of both industry and the manipulation that existed by the pigs. Secondly the windmill is a symbol for Stalin's(Napoleon's) 'Five–Year plan'. Just as The Windmill was promised to make the animal's life easier, the 'Five–Year Plan' was supposed to improve industry and in turn the working class's lives by increasing production and allowing the soviets to shorten the work–week. The author uses something called syntax in this book. ... Their hard work towards their dream of a better life was put to shame by their once companion, turned leader, Stalin. The leader who the people of Russia believed, and were told, could be their equal and lead Russia to the glory of guaranteed jobs, food, hospitalisation, education, housing, and pension plans through Communism. Of course, as history would have it, this glory was short lived. The author, George Orwell, does this by using animals on a farm as the pawns of the Russian Revolution. This novel shows the results of what can happen when too much trust in given to one individual without being judged and held against his/her actions accordingly. • 26. The Themes Of Symbolism In George Orwell's Animal Farm George Orwell's allegory of the farm animal's triumph in Animal Farm to the Russian Revolution in both totalitarian manner and results exposes how absolute power destroys equality and results in unfettered totalitarian rule. Orwell's satire of equality demonstrates a leader's methods of ostracization of opposing parties and use of propaganda to dominate a society, self–interest infiltrating a role of leadership causing a polity to turn totalitarian, and ability to force harsh conditions on the working class. George Orwell's Animal Farm unveils the reality of spiteful human nature and corrupt societies through insightful characterizations and conveys negligent leaders' oppression of oblivious followers through apprehensive moods and interwoven symbolism. George Orwell's deliberate contrast of characters through details of the animals' dialogue and actions provides evidence as to why human nature does not allow for a utopian society. The distinct disparity among Napoleon and Snowball causes them to engage in conflict and create a divide in their developing nation. Orwell portrays Napoleon's selfish methods as nefarious, which causes the audience to feel uneasy about his morality and the future of the farm under his supervision: " [Napoleon] walked heavily round the shed, looked closely at every detail of [Snowball's] plans and snuffed at them once or twice, then stood for a little while contemplating them out of the corner of his eye; then suddenly he lifted his leg, urinated over the plans, and walked out without uttering a word" (Orwell 55). As Napoleon sabotages the gracious flow of improvements to Animal Farm, he poses an explicit distinction between Snowball's efforts to improve Animal Farm, and his goal of authority over the farm. Animal Farm's narrator provides insight on how Napoleon, a totalitarian leader, manipulates the other farm animals in his rise to power: "By the time [Snowball] had finished speaking, there was no doubt as to which way the vote would go. "He was a man of strong opinions who addressed some of the major political movements of his times, including imperialism, fascism, and communism." ("George Orwell"). Orwell was passionate about talking about the events going on in his time, which is why he wrote Animal Farm. He uses symbolism with the moral of the story and with the characters as well. • 29. Examples Of Symbolism In Animal Farm By George Orwell Within the book animal farm, there are several examples of symbolism that represents our history. George Orwell created this book to represent idols from the Soviet Union. One of the main characters, Napoleon, from the book is a direct symbol of Stalin and Tyranny. Another account is Snowball who is directly connected to Trotsky and is a common of scapegoats politicians use. The last example is of Boxer the work horse who represents the working or peasant class. Orwell depicted the character Napoleon to closely resemble the tyrannical leader Stalin. Within the book, Napoleon made several choices that were parallel to those of what Stalin did when he was rising to power. When Stalin came to power, he was ruthless and took as much power as he wanted to and kept it to himself, Napoleon does the same thing by exiling a political opponent and "announced that from now on the Sunday–morning Meetings would come to an end" and everything "would be settled by a special committee of pigs, presided over by himself" (Orwell 38). This was Napoleons first steps to power as were the same for Stalin. Stalin said that he was improving the workers conditions however in secrecy, he was hoarding all the luxury for himself and his closest comrades. This goes the same way for Napoleon, he kept the milk and apples produced by the farm to himself and "it was mixed everyday into the pigs' mash" (Orwell 25). • 30. Political Symbolism In George Orwell's Animal Farm George Orwell's classic emblematic novella "Animal Farm" is a political satire in which he criticises Josef Stalin and Stalinism. He felt that the Soviet Union, under Stalin, was starting to turn into a dictatorship, and that many people were holding Stalin under high reverence. It is a chilling story that besides symbolizing Russia, also conveys many important messages, one of the major ones being how power can corrupt people. Rather than using humans as characters in his story, Orwell uses different animals of different personalities to symbolize actual historical figures in Russia and their roles. Initially, seduced by the idea of a communist government, the animals worked to drive out their cruel master Mr. Jones. Life without Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, Napoleon told them that he would deal with the milk, and sent them to follow Snowball and do the harvest. Later, it was found that the milk was gone when the animals returned. In addition, the apples that were supposed to be for all the animals ended up being mixed in with the pigs' mash only. In explanation for this, Napoleon got Squealer to speak to the animals and tell them that milk and apples contained nutrients that were essential to a pig's well–being. If the pigs did not get these foodstuffs, Squealer said, then they would be unable to prevent Mr. Jones from taking over the farm again. The animals did not want this to happen at all, so they readily agreed with Squealer. Continually in the story, Squealer continues to make use of this point in order to make the animals agree with him. The animals continued to live life happily, except that there were now several some signs indicative that something bad might occur. Snowball and Napoleon were always found to be in disagreement with each other, even over the most insignificant matters. One issue they argued over was education for all versus education for the young only. Snowball worked to set up reading and writing classes for all the animals, whereas Napoleon took it upon himself to educate the newly born puppies, keeping them in such seclusion that everyone forgot their existence. This was not the most troubling issue though. Their biggest debate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Animal Symbolism In Macbeth In the graphic novel "Macbeth," by William Shakespeare, the symbolism of animals and nature is common and readers can often find it. Shakespeare's plays are often confused within its complex language use but by applying reference to the creatures, it can help the readers to understand the play better. In this particular play, both picture and quote have been skillfully distributed to emphasize the relationship between characters and the events occurring. On page 33, top left panel, Lady Macbeth says "it was the owl that shriek'd, the fatal bellman, which gives the stern'st good– night." Since the owl's cry has been believed to be a sign of death in many cultures, it foreshadows the approaching death of King Duncan. Moreover in the same panel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Mayor Of Casterbridge, Symbolism, Animal Kingdom,... Keywords: Thomas Hardy, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Symbolism, Bird Imagerey, Animal Kingdom, Philosophy Introduction The Mayor of Casterbridge is one of the masterpieces and the imperishable novel of Thomas Hardy, although it has never enjoyed the popularity of Tess and Jude. Hardy was at the height of his creative powers when he began work on it at the age of forty four. Initially, the novel appeared serially, in twenty installments, in 1886 in an English periodical, The Graphic, and was published in book form in 1886 after revising for two or three times. The book appeared as soon as the serial publication was complete but it differs a lot from the serial novel. It is a magnificent novel, although Hardy himself was not entirely happy about it. It was a story which Hardy fancied he had damaged more recklessly as an artistic whole, in the interest of the newspaper in which it appeared serially, than perhaps any other of his novels, his aiming to get an incident into each week's part causing him in his own judgment to add events to the narrative somewhat too freely.1 On the first reading of the book, it seems to be a straightforward story but on deeper analysis one can see that it is replete with symbols which have their own significance and that can be interpreted variously if we analyze them as Thomas Hardy himself wrote while The Mayor of Casterbridge was coming out serially that, "My art is to intensify the expression of things...so that the heart and inner ... • 34. Symbolism Of Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm Which mechanisms of power that are portrayed in Orwell's 1945 Animal Farm do the pigs use to gain authority over the other farm animals? An idealistic utopia cannot become reality, because political and social revolutions rarely manage to hold onto the original purpose of the revolution. This idea is represented in Orwell's Animal Farm, which serves as a literary parallel to the Russian Revolution ("Animal Farm"). Animal Farm revolves around a group speaking animals, led by pigs, who revolt against their owners and attempt to create a utopia following "animalism", where every animal is equal and does not follow any of the habits possessed by humans. However, the pigs rise to a state of dictorialship, intentionally gaining power over the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of Animal Farm, Squealer, who is good at communicating with the other animals with his cunning words, often makes excuses for the pigs choice. This is visible, when the pigs seize the apples and milk. "'The whole management and organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Yes, Jones would come back! Surely, comrades,' cried Squealer, 'surely there is no one among you who wants to see Jones come back?' Now if there was one thing that the animals were completely certain of, was that they did not want Jones back." (Animal Farm 14) Squealer refers to the pigs' job as their duty, and says that they work hard for the good and welfare for the other animals, therefore suggesting that more food is required for the pigs. By stating this, he is luring the animals into a guilty conscience and attempts to connect with them on an emotional level. The pigs generate the entire narrative in order to achieve a luxurious and comfortable life by using a large portion of other animals' resources. By seizing the rations of the animals and making ... Napoleon and his crew bring in animals one by one and interrogate them about whether they are helping Snowball come into the farm at night and tear down the windmill. All those who are found guilty are murdered. The windmill construction represents Stalin's five–year plans for industrialization. The windmill construction is constantly delayed and extended just like Stalin's five–year plans. The plot of Animal Farm is made of many events. There is the initial rebellion of the animals against Farmer Jones. This rebellion begins the rest of the story and struggles that come along. • 37. Symbolism In Animal Farm The Animal Revolution The story, Animal Farm, portrays a significant amount of symbolism. The book itself is representing symbolism throughout the entire story. Animal Farm, or Manor Farm, delineates the Soviet Union. The author, George Orwell, wrote this book during the time when dictators were taking over and war was uprising. "He was a man of strong opinions who addressed some of the major political movements of his times, including imperialism, fascism, and communism." ("George Orwell"). Orwell was passionate about talking about the events going on in his time which is why he wrote Animal Farm. He uses symbolism with the moral of the story and with the characters as well. Animal Farm represents the Soviet Union by becoming a government that uses a dictatorship and rebelling against their former "leader" and driving him out. Animal Farm marked the start of the Russian Revolution because communist rule started coming in control. The characters of Animal Farm all represent an important figure in the Russian Revolution or symbolized something relating to the Revolution. In the beginning of the book, Old Major was the head animal on the farm. He symbolizes Karl Marx. Old Major was very old and gave a speech to the rest of the farm before his passing. Like Marx, he delivers a speech that sparks a rebellion. They had the same feelings and thoughts about communist rule. They led their followers to start a rebellion. After Old Major's passing, the animals followed his wishes and led their leader, Mr. Jones, out of the farm. Mr. Jones symbolizes Russia's last tsar, Nicholas II. Nicholas II was not a great leader and was forced to concede his throne. This matches Mr. Jones leadership completely. He didn't care for the animals on the farm, feeding them the bare minimum and taking advantage of them for their labor. Russia's tsar was overthrown, as well as Mr. Jones. Their people weren't happy with their leader's actions and the way they handled things so they did something about it and changed how things were going to be from there on. A quote from George Orwell, "One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution. One makes the revolution in order to establish dictatorship." A ... • 38. Uses Of Symbolism In Maus By Vladek Spiegelman The Holocaust was a horrible atrocity. This event killed six million jews and seventeen million victims overall, but many jews survived to tell the story of how it was inside the camps and how they were treated. One was Vladek Spiegelman, a resourceful man that had it rough during the Holocaust. His son, Artie Spiegelman, wrote the book Maus which he tells the story of his father when he was in Auschwitz and tells about his life in the time Artie is writing the book. In Artie's book, Maus, he uses a lot of symbolism in his work to get his point across. In Maus, Art Spiegelman uses symbolism to help the readers understand his characters and the conflicts they face, along with much more. To find symbolism, one must first know the meaning of the term. Symbolism is defined as the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. Symbolism is used all the time to help the audience understand what they are reading or seeing. Artie uses symbolism to define the characters he put in the book by drawing them as animals instead of humans. He also had different examples of symbolism like the conflict on the character's mask, his father's resourcefulness, his mother's journal, and the swastika pathway that he put in the book to help readers understand. The first example of symbolism that caught reader's attention was the characters in his book. Artie depicted them as animals and not just any animals, animals that described their ethnicity. • 39. Symbolism In Animal Farm Everyday symbols can be found almost anywhere. In the novel, Animal Farm by George Orwell, symbols are ubiquitous. Three of the major symbols in Animal Farm are the windmill, Animalism, and the pig named Napoleon. A line from the text reads, "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" (Orwell #). This proves the allegory of the story, which is that the whole book represents communism in the Russian Revolution. Orwell carefully embodied small symbols that added to the effect of the biggest one. How he intricately paints the picture is how an artist paints a portrait, including all the smallest details, in the case of Animal Farm it would be down to the smallest symbols. One of the major significant symbols in Animal Farm is the windmill. Orwell writes, "The animals were somewhat surprised to hear Napoleon announce the windmill was to be built after all... he merely warned this extra task would mean very hard work; it might even be necessary to reduce their rations" (Orwell #). The quote above proves that the windmill represents government manipulating their people. Within the government at Animal Farm the pig Napoleon was the leader and he had all the animals work on the windmill while he sat back and gave orders. Most of the animals were working very hard and were getting less food due to the time spent on the windmill. Furthermore, while everyone else was getting less food, barely enough to keep them going, he was manipulating them. He convinced them he needed food because he used his brain to keep them all alive. Additionally, this clarifies that the windmill represents how government manipulates their people because Napoleon was head of the government and basically the whole government. This means he was the mastermind and manipulated everyone into benefitting him in someway. In the end, Napoleon is the government who manipulates their people in the Russian Revolution. Another example to support this claim is Animalism. An example from the text says, "Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. No animal shall wear clothes. No animal shall sleep in a bed. No animal shall drink alcohol. No animal shall kill any other animal. All ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pigs are sometimes compared to how stubborn people can be. Pig–headed is a term people use to describe people that do not listen to advice and are very stubborn. ("Merriam–Webster".)Wilbur shows that he is not stubborn by listening to the goose. "' One of the boards is loose, push on it, push–push–push on it, and come on out,"' (White 17.) Despite the goose's speech problems Wilbur listened to the goose and escaped the pen for a short while. Gluttony is pretty commonly associated with pigs mainly because of their ability to consume massive amounts of slop in one sitting. They also symbolize gluttony in society and overeating. People sometimes call one another pigs when they eat a lot. Even though these are pretty common traits for pigs, Wilbur is neither a glutton in real life nor does he symbolize gluttony. He was fed only a little scraps from the family, and that makes it impossible for him to be a glutton. He showed not being a glutton by giving Templeton food. "He planned to leave half a noodle and a few drops of milk," (White 75.) To me this shows that Wilbur was not just thinking about himself. The last characteristic about a pig is their laziness. A pig lying in a mud puddle sums up what laziness is. Wilbur may have to live in a pen filled with manure, but he is constantly getting active, conversing with farm animals, and trying to save his life. He also had to be extra mobile whenever Charlotte spelled radiant in her web. "He would spring into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
