Betaloc Tablets
 Betaloc Tablets are used to treat several
 symptoms including high blood pressure,
 hypertension, angina, acute myocardial
 infarction, supraventricular tachycardia,
 ventricular tachycardia, congestive heart
 failure, treat or prevent heart attacks and
 prevention of migraine headaches.

Betaloc Tablets
              Active Ingredient
 The active pharmaceutical ingredient in
 Betaloc Tablets is metoprolol tartrate.
 Betaloc is available as 50 mg and 100 mg
 tablets.

Betaloc Tablets
                    Indications
 Hypertension. To reduce blood pressure
 and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular and
 coronary mortality (including sudden
 death), and morbidity
 Angina pectoris.
 Symptomatic mild to severe chronic heart
 failure as an addition to other heart failure
 therapy to increase survival, reduce
 hospitalisation, improve left ventricular
 function, and improve quality of life.

Betaloc Tablets
                    Indications
 Cardiac arrhythmias, especially
 supraventricular tachycardia, reduction of
 ventricular rate in atrial fibrillation and
 ventricular extrasystoles.
 Maintenance treatment after myocardial
 infarction
 Hyperthyroidism.
 Functional heart disorder with palpitations.
 Prevention of migraine headaches.

Betaloc Tablets
   Recommended Adult Dosage
 Hypertension:
 The recommended dose in patients
 with mild to moderate hypertension is
 47.5 mg given once a day
 Angina Pectoris:
 95-190 mg daily given as a single dose
 in the morning.

   Recommended Adult Dosage
 Chronic Heart Failure:
 The dose of Betaloc has to be
 individually adjusted in patients with
 chronic heart failure stabilised on other
 heart failure treatment. A recommended
 initial dose during the first two weeks is
 a 23.75 mg tablet once daily.

   Recommended Adult Dosage
 Cardiac Arrhythmias:
 95-190 mg daily, given as a single dose
 once daily.
 Functional Heart Disorder With
 Palpitations:
 The recommended dosage is 95 mg
 once daily. If necessary, the dose may
 be increased to 190 mg.

 Migraine Prophylaxis:
 The recommended dosage is 95-190
 mg once daily.
 Hyperthyroidism:
 95-190 mg daily, given as a single dose
 in the morning. If necessary, the dose
 may be increased.

Missed Dose
  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as
  you remember.
  However, if you remember when it is
  almost time for your next dose, take
  only your usual dose at that time.
  Do not take two doses at once.

Betaloc Tablets
        Contraindications
Betaloc Tablets are contraindicated in the
following cases:
Known hypersensitivity to to metoprolol
tartrate or any other component of the
medicine or to other beta-blockers.
Bronchial asthma or other obstructive lung
disorders.
 Grade 2 and 3 A-V block and intranodal A-V
block.

Betaloc Tablets
        Contraindications
 Patients with unstable decompensated
 cardiac heart failure (pulmonary oedema,
 hypoperfusion or hypotension), and
 patients with continuous or intermittent
 inotropic therapy acting through beta-
 receptor agonism.
 Marked clinically relevant sinus
 bradycardia.

Betaloc Tablets
        Contraindications
Sick-sinus syndrome.
Cardiogenic shock.
Severe peripheral arterial circulatory
disorder.
Patients with suspected acute myocardial
infarction and the heart rate is <45
beats/minute, the P-Q interval is > 0.24
seconds or the systolic blood pressure is
<100 mmHg.

  Side Effects of Betaloc Tablets
The common side effects are usually mild and are
mentioned below:
Headache, tiredness, drowsiness, weakness, or lack
of energy, aches and pains, painful joints, nausea
(feeling sick), vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea or
constipation, weight gain, dry mouth, changes in
taste sensation, difficulty sleeping, nightmares,
mood changes, confusion, short-term memory loss,
inability to concentrate, increased sweating, runny
or blocked nose and hair loss

  Side Effects of Betaloc Tablets
Tell your doctor immediately if you
notice any of the following serious side
effects:
Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
especially on standing up
Tingling or "pins and needles"
Skin rash or worsening of psoriasis
Sunburn happening more quickly than
usual

  Side Effects of Betaloc Tablets



Abnormal thinking or hallucinations
Buzzing or ringing in the ears, deafness
Irritated eyes or blurred vision
Sexual problems

Betaloc Tablets
             Warnings And Precautions

 Intravenous administration of calcium antagonists
 of the verapamil-type should not be given to
 patients treated with beta-blockers.
 The anaesthetist should be informed that the
 patient is receiving Betaloc prior to surgery.
 Betaloc may aggravate the symptoms of
 peripheral arterial circulatory disorders, mainly
 due to its blood pressure lowering effect.
 Abrupt withdrawal of beta-blockers is hazardous
 especially in high risk patients.

             Warnings And Precautions

Betaloc should not be given during
pregnancy and lactation unless its use is
considered essential.
Patients should know how they react to
Betaloc before they drive or use machines
because occasionally dizziness or fatigue
may occur.

Overdosage Symptoms
 The symptoms of Betaloc overdosage
 can include bradycardia, hypotension,
 acute cardiac insufficiency and
 bronchospasm.

Betaloc Tablets
Overdose Treatment
 Overdose treatment should include
 close supervision, treatment in an
 intensive care ward, the use of gastric
 lavage, activated charcoal and a
 laxative to prevent absorption of any
 drug still present in the gastrointestinal
 tract, the use of plasma or plasma
 substitutes to treat hypotension and
 shock.

  • 16. Betaloc Tablets Warnings And Precautions Intravenous administration of calcium antagonists of the verapamil-type should not be given to patients treated with beta-blockers. The anaesthetist should be informed that the patient is receiving Betaloc prior to surgery. Betaloc may aggravate the symptoms of peripheral arterial circulatory disorders, mainly due to its blood pressure lowering effect.
