Finpecia (Generic Finasteride 1mg Tablets) is used to
treat male pattern hair loss. This medicine increases
hair growth while at the same time prevents further hair
loss.
Finasteride 1 mg specifically lowers the levels of DHT in
the scalp, thus helping to reverse the balding process.
Finpecia does not affect hair on other parts of the body.
Men with mild to moderate, but not complete, hair loss
can expect to benefit from the use of Finpecia tablets.

Finpecia Tablets are manufactured by
Cipla Limited, India in the strength of 1 mg.

Chemical Structure - Finasteride

The active ingredient contained in Finpecia tablets is
Finasteride.
Each Finpecia tablet contains 1 mg of Finasteride.

Uses of Finpecia 1 mg Tablets:
Finpecia tablets are indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss
(androgenetic alopecia) in adult men only. Safety and efficacy have been
demonstrated in men between the ages of 18 to 41 years with mild-to-
moderate hair loss of the vertex and anterior mid-scalp area. Finpecia
Tablets are not indicated in women and children.
When using Finpecia for male pattern hair loss, it may take at least 3
months to see an effect. The medicine will not cure hair loss, but it will
cause scalp hair to grow. The hair growth will only last as long as the
medicine is used. The new hair will be lost within 1 year after the
medicine is stopped. Finasteride is also used to treat men with benign
prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Recommended Adult Dosage
The dose of Finpecia (Generic Finasteride 1 mg Tablets) is
1 mg orally once a day, with or without meals. In general,
daily use for 3 months or more is necessary before benefit is
observed.
Continued use of this medicine is recommended to sustain
benefits, which should be re-evaluated periodically.
Withdrawal of treatment leads to a reversal of effect within
12 months.

Finpecia Tablets - Contraindications

Finpecia tablets are contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity
to Finasteride or any component of the tablet.

Finpecia (Generic Finasteride 1mg Tablets) Tablets is not indicated for use in
women or children and adolescents.

Finasteride use is contraindicated in women when they are or may potentially
be pregnant. Because of the ability of Type II 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors to
inhibit the conversion of testosterone to 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT),
Finasteride may cause abnormalities of the external genitalia of a male fetus of
a pregnant woman who receives Finasteride. If Finpecia is used during
pregnancy, or if pregnancy occurs while taking this medication, the pregnant
woman should be apprised of the potential hazard to the male foetus.

Finpecia Tablets - Contraindications

Crushed or broken tablets of Finpecia should not be handled
by women when they are or may potentially be pregnant
because of the possibility of absorption of Finasteride and the
subsequent potential risk to a male foetus.

Finpecia tablets should not be taken by men who are taking
Finasteride 5 mg or any other 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor for
benign prostatic hyperplasia or any other condition.

Storage Instructions
Finpecia Tablets (Generic Finasteride 1 mg Tablets)
have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e.
from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with excursions
permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines away from
children and pets.

Warnings
Finasteride 1mg (Finpecia Tablets) should not be used in children. There
are no data demonstrating efficacy or safety of Finasteride in children
under the age of 18.
During clinical studies with Finasteride 1mg in men 18 to 41 years of age,
the mean value of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) decreased from
0.7 ng/ml at baseline to 0.5 ng/ml at month 12. Doubling the PSA level in
men taking Finasteride 1mg should be considered before evaluating this
test result.
The effect of hepatic insufficiency on the pharmacokinetics of Finasteride
has not been studied. Caution must be exercised for the administration of
Finpecia Tablets in patients with liver function abnormalities, as
Finasteride is metabolized extensively in the liver.

Warnings
Breast cancer has been reported in men taking Finasteride 1 mg during the
post-marketing period. Physicians should instruct their patients to promptly
report any changes in their breast tissue such as lumps, pain, gynaecomastia
or nipple discharge.
Mood alterations including depressed mood, depression and, less frequently,
suicidal ideation have been reported in patients treated with Finasteride 1 mg.
Patients should be monitored for psychiatric symptoms and if these occur,
treatment with Finasteride should be discontinued and the patient advised to
seek medical advice.
Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp
lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this
medicine.

Finpecia Tablets and Alcohol
Finasteride has been shown to reduce alcohol intake and
suppress alcohol preference in male mice. For men receiving
placebo, there was no relationship between alcohol use and
low-grade prostate cancer. But for those receiving Finasteride,
drinking 50 g or more of alcohol daily almost doubled the risk for
low-grade disease. Because the results of mixing alcohol with
Propecia are not exactly known, it is best to keep your drinking to
a minimum or avoid it altogether.

Possible Finpecia Tablets Side Effects
Most common side effects reported in 1% or
more of patients treated with Finasteride 1mg
(Finpecia Tablets) and greater than in patients
treated with placebo are decreased libido,
erectile dysfunction and ejaculation disorder.

Possible Side Effects
The following side effects have been identified during post approval use
of Finasteride 1mg (Finpecia Tablets).
Hypersensitivity Reaction: hypersensitivity reactions including rash, pruritus,
urticaria, and swelling of the lips and face;
Reproductive System: sexual dysfunction that continued after
discontinuation of treatment, including erectile dysfunction, libido
disorders, ejaculation disorders, and orgasm disorders; male infertility
and/or poor seminal quality (normalization or improvement of seminal
quality has been reported after discontinuation of Finasteride 1mg
tablets); testicular pain.
Neoplasms: male breast cancer;
Breast disorders: breast tenderness and enlargement;
Nervous System/Psychiatric: depression

Finpecia Tablets Overdosage
In clinical studies, single doses of Finasteride (Finpecia 1 mg
tablets) up to 400 mg and multiple doses of Finasteride up to
80 mg/day for three months did not result in adverse reactions.
Until further experience is obtained, no specific treatment for an
overdose with Finasteride can be recommended.
Significant lethality was observed in male and female mice at single
oral doses of 1500 mg/m2 (500 mg/kg) and in female and male rats at
single oral doses of 2360 mg/m2 (400 mg/kg) and 5900 mg/m2 (1000
mg/kg), respectively.

Finpecia Tablets During Pregnancy
Finasteride (Finpecia tablets) has been classified by the US FDA
as Pregnancy Category X.
Finasteride (Finpecia 1 mg tablets) is not indicated for use in
women. Women should not handle crushed or broken Finpecia
tablets when they are pregnant or may potentially be pregnant
because of the possibility of absorption of Finasteride and the
subsequent potential risk to a male foetus.
If a pregnant woman comes in contact with crushed or broken
Finpecia tablets, the contact area should be washed immediately
with soap and water.

Finpecia Tablets During Nursing
Finpecia tablets (Finasteride 1mg Tablets) is not
indicated for use in women. It is not known whether
Finasteride is excreted in human milk.
