Narrative
Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
This scene is of the main character John Marston and a woman named Bonnie
speaking together outside her house. Her house is in front of the lawman’s office
and her back garden leads on to a large farm. The town in which this is; is
Macfarlane’s Ranch.
There are a few different mood types developed in this cut scene as conversation
based on many different things can alter the mood. E.g. John mentions that he lost
his dad at 8 years old which is sad, and in some areas they have a joke e.g. Bonnie
says, “you do like to talk in riddles” with a sarcastic voice. Furthermore, the music
changes mood from a feeling of being safe to a of feeling of tension; making you feel
as if there is something not right. I believe the music is a computer generated sound
to make the music eerie and sound like it’s from an instrument used years ago e.g.
1911. The music cuts out in certain areas allowing you to hear animals in the
background such as horses and birds. However the music changes notes
This game is an adventure game as you can play Poker travel across the border from
USA to Mexico and even camp out for the night. During the cut scene, John
mentions how his life has been, how he has changed and what things he has done,
This speech includes him travelling with his old gang.
Considering MacFarlane’s Ranch has a large farm,
the distant sound of animals such as horses and
birds can be heard.
John talks to Bonnie about how he feels the need to kill a former brother (a friend)
so that his family will be safe as the threat of his family being hurt terrifies him. His
former fiend who is Bill Williamson, is still a murderer and does not see the point in
changing to a better man like John.
The soundtrack holds sadness and a short burst of that
you are safe but the sadness held in the sound of the
soundtrack seems to overlap the safety of you. The
music links to the story as the story is quite sad as even
though he has tried to stay alive and do the best for his
family, he ends dead
The soundtrack is computer generated and
sounds like an old instrument from many years
ago. It gives the feeling of that you are now safe
but also the feeling that danger will soon be
applied to you as the story John is telling is about
trying to kill a former brother.
Considering that the `theme of the game is based
on cowboys the music in this cut scene is cowboy
based e.g. wild west music. The computer
generated soundtrack makes it sound more
clearer.
