Senator Harry Reid Is A Democratic Senator
In the United States Senate, many senators gather to discuss policies and whether to vote on laws elected by the House of Representatives. The Senate
provides each states with two votes; ergo there are two Senators that represent each state. The duties include writing and passing laws, approving many
presidential appointments, and ratifying treaties with other countries. This allows each state to have equal representation regardless of their
population, which in turn grants each Senator with great power and responsibility. A model Senator is one who accurately projects the views of his or
her state and tries their best to act on those views in the Senate. Such a senator can be found in Nevada; Senator Harry Reid is a democratic Senate ...

It's very clear that Harry Reid works very hard in order to position the values of Nevada in front of him. So, in order to see whether or not Senator
Reid has been correctly advocating for those in Nevada, this paper will outline Harry Reid's stances on Immigration and Health Care Reform. These
two topics remain has some of the hottest and most popular contentions of debate; and its important to know every political figures stance on these
points.
People come to the United States for the promise of freedom and opportunity. But the current immigration system in the United States is broken
families are separated, immigrant workers are exploited, people die trying to cross the border, and there is rampant discrimination against immigrants.
Senator Reid wants to change that. Senator Reid believes tin reuniting and keeping families together. He has fought to eliminate the long backlogs that
keep families apart while they wait to reunite in a legal standard. This concept brought in the first issue of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act
of 2007. This was a bill that the sole sponsor was Senator Harry Reid, (and supported by President George W. Bush at the time) a bill that would
have provided a legal status and a path to citizenship for the approximately 12 million illegal immigrants resident in the United States. This
comprehensive reform act would have done a lot for guest work and legalization programs. Some of these reforms include increases in border patrol,

Senator Victor-Brrr Quotes
Senator Victor – Brrr..... it sure is cold here.
Hunter – Obviously it's cold here. This is Alaska. *haughty laugh*
Senator Ella – Cut the chit chat. Let's get down to business!
Senator Victor – We are here to discuss the purchase of Alaska. Secretary Seward– We are offering 5 million US dollars.
Emperor – No we want 10 million.
Hunter – Our land has an abundance of exotic furs, minerals, and wildlife. 5 million is too measly of an offer.
Senator Jocelyn – Taking that into account, we will consider raising the offer to 6.5 million.
Emperor – *hesitates* On second thought, we probably shouldn't sell Alaska.
Senator Victor – *gasp*
All Americans – *in unison* WHATTT?!
Emperor – Well we would be losing land & if we sell Alaska, America would have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This deal is the greatest offer that you could ever receive! If you're not going to give it to us the easy way, we'll have to take Alaska by force!
Secretary Seward – Settle down, Victor. What he means is, are you sure? I don't think you're making the right decision. Alaska could benefit greatly
from this offer, as well.
*Victor sits back in his seat and slowly regains his composure & pride* *Everyone dismisses Victor's outburst and carries on*
Senator Jocelyn – In fact, you were the one to initiate this proposal.
Senator Ella – That may be true, but how would we benefit from this deal?
Secretary Seward– Well, once Alaska joins the US, Alaskans will be able to enjoy the rights and advantages of being an American citizen.
Emperor– So you are claiming that how I rule Alaska isn't good enough for my citizens?
Senator Jocelyn– No, no. That's not what we're saying. Let's just not discuss this topic & focus on the main prospect of why we are all gathered here.
Secretary Seward – I agree. We mustn't stray away from the conflict at hand. Anyways, if we purchase Alaska, the tariffs on trade, between Alaska and
the rest of the US, will be

Senator Lindsey Graham: A Brief Biography
Senator Lindsey Graham was born in Central, South Carolina on July 9, 1955. His parents were the owners of a local bar and liquor store in the town
of Central and after high school he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina, which made him the first person in his family to
attend college (McNamee). His childhood was somewhat tough because his family had money issues and because of that he had to do some local
odd jobs as a child to help support his family financially (Raju). During his time at college both of parents died around the same time of each other,
with his mother dying and then his father dying a year later (Raju). As a result, of these sudden tragedies, Graham, who is nine years older than his
sister had to take greater responsibilities in terms of supporting his sister while attending college at the same time (Raju). He went on to graduate from
the University of South Carolina in 1977 and from law school in 1981 (McNamee). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Study Of Senator Sanders
TAIWO OLADUNNI. The two potential reasons why Senator Sanders supports increasing top tax rates is so as discourage 'greed' which is broadly
defined as extracting income at the expense of the rest of the economy as opposed to real productive behavior. This plan would result in an all–in tax
rate of over 65% on income between $500,000 and $2 million which would definitely push rates near the revenue maximizing level. Mr. Sanders tends
on counting on those high incomes to generate the high receipts needed to fund his single–payer health plan which is a problem. The other reason is
that higher tax rates on the highest earners can generate revenue to pay for new programs, and they can encourage a more equal distribution of pretax

State Senators Responsibilities
As the election approaches, it's significant to understand the responsibilities of state senators. A conscientious senator can bring numerous remarkable
prospects for the state and people. Otherwise, people will suffer from various inconveniences. In the United States, state senators are officials who
represent their own districts within the states. In most states, state senators are required to serve in the house of the state government's legislature and
one role in common is state senators must represent their districts' residents. For representing the constituents, the state senators need to listen and read
the emails and letters which express the constituents' opinions. Next, the state senators should attend to constituents. They can talk to constituents, give
public speeches and provide official updates. Although state senators are not required to propose legislation, they treat it as their responsibilities in
order to benefit the constituents. Considering with the basic benefits and future of the state and people, I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Pentadic Analysis Of Senator Kennedy's 'Indefensible'
When we think about a true leader of the United States of America, we clearly believe that a leader must have a greater action and accepts the
reality to solve the situation. In the article, "A Pentadic Analysis of Senator Edward Kennedy's Address to the People of Massachusetts July 25,
1969" Ling analyses that Senator Kennedy's speech shows "indefensible"(Ling, 1970) because of the tragedy, and feel particular guilty from the
accident. Moreover, Ling explains how Kennedy's speech intended to "minimize his responsibility for his actions after the death of Miss Kopechne"
(Ling, 1970). The research question of this will be what kind of descriptions effectively apply to build credibility? Ling explains, "the Pentad, it is

State Senator Reflection
On February 16, 2016, I traveled to Lansing, Michigan, to job shadow State Senator Coleman A. Young II. I emailed one of his assistants, Jewell
Gillespie, and we set up a meeting on the 16th. I wanted to see what the job of a politician was like. I thought a State Senator would be a great
starting point. It was also close to my home. Each Senator has an office, which are all in a building close to the Michigan State Capitol. Some days
in the week, they walk down to Michigan State Capitol, where the senators and representatives have a session. On the day I job shadowed, the
session started with a recess. The senators did work on their laptops or met in small groups. I watched from above in a balcony. Elementary classes
were also touring the building; the recess would stop to recognize them. Before recess ended, I was also acknowledged and given a round of
applause. Then, they put to vote a few bills. The senators voted by pushing a button for yes or no. One senator gave a speech for firemen hospitalized
because of inhaling smoke. After a few more votes, the session was adjourned.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the sessions, there are ceremonies and events that senators attend. Young says that as a senator you can make change and you need to find

community and have the ability to make great changes. I plan to major in political science to learn more about

Senator Rubio Case Study
Descriptive representation may not have a positive and significant impact on a politician's agenda. This case study is on Republican U.S. Senator
Marco Rubio. He was born on May 28, 1971 in Miami, Florida. His parents were born in Cuba, which makes Senator Rubio a Cuban American. He
makes a great case study to reflect on the opposite idea of descriptive representation in the political system. It is essential to talk about his parents'
history with immigration in order to understand why he does not correctly represent Latinos, especially Cuban–Americans or other minority groups
that he should be representing. His parents immigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1956 before the rise of Fidel Castro, which was in January
1959. When Senator Rubio was born, neither of his parents were U.S. citizens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

According to McClain & Johnson Carew, "Cubans entering the United States after Castro's rise to power in 1959 generally enjoyed handsome financial
support from the US government and were encourage to seek US citizenship" (17). His grandfather ended up applying for a permanent resident status in

certain circumstances. There were other relatives of Senator Rubio, who immigrated to the U.S. as refugees as

United States Senator for Florida, Marco Rubio once stated, "The Hispanic community understands the American Dream and have not forgotten what
they were promised – that in the U.S., a free market system allows us all to succeed economically, achieve stability and security for your family and
leave your children better off than yourselves." Every year Hispanics search the regions of Texas in search of this very opportunity to better themselves
and especially their youth. One such region is the poverty stricken region that is the Rio Grande Valley. It is a region that has begun to accept its current
role as nothing more than a region of widespread poverty and undervalued skill, but there is one man who will not sit idly by and watch as this
region and the Hispanics who inhabit it are characterized by benighted stereotypes and filled with cruel insults. There is one man who will work
diligently to better the region. That man is Eric Garza. Garza believes, "Future opportunity exists for Hispanics to excel and advance themselves and
their families" (Garza). He sees that a disheartened culture has suddenly sprung up and is on the cusp of something greater than what people believe
they can achieve. Eric Garza, a prominent figure in the RGV and State of Texas, has been working to better the welfare of Hispanics since he was a

You wear boots? You're a communist. You walk straight? You're a communist. You winked at me? You're a communist. These are examples of saying
that might be said by Senator Joseph McCarthy during the 1950's when McCarthyism was going on. There are many ways that Joseph McCarthy does
not meet the responsibilities of a U.S. senator because he doesn't effectively represent the people that voted for him, be truthful toward thoughts, or
have positive attitudes toward people especially the people that criticize him. Some responsibilities of a U.S. Senator are writing and passing laws,

If I were to choose a figure in the government who I admire the most, that person would be Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. Ever since I began
to take an interest in politics, I always leaned towards the conservative side of the spectrum but everyone else around me identified as a liberal. As an
African–American male, it is hard to come out as a black republican, especially when you attend a Historically Black College. For the last couple of
decades, the black community has tended to vote Democrat and when they see one of their own come out as a republican, they reject that person and
instantly decry them. So many blacks who do share conservative views choose not to come out as republican, partly because of the backlash they

The Stereotype For A United States ' Senator
The stereotype for a United States' Senator is often the same stereotype associated with the Republican Party: wealthy, white, older male. While
Senator Elizabeth Warren is not a spring chicken and is white, that is where the similarities end. The following information is from "Elizabeth
Warren" (2015). Senator Warren came from a struggling middle class family, the youngest of four. Her father suffered from a heart attack and the
family began to accumulate medical bills. Warren started working at the age of 13 to help pay the bills. Graduating high school at the age of 16,
Warren attended George Washington University on a full ride debate scholarship, a skill she would use periodically throughout her life. Graduating
the University of Houston with a speech pathology degree she became the first person in her family to graduate college. After two children, a divorce
and earning her law degree Warren began to develop an interest in bankruptcy and how it particularly plagued middle class families. Thanks to this
interest and a tap from Senator Harry Reid, Warren chaired the Congressional Oversight Panel in 2008. Warren and the panel investigated the financial
crisis as well as the banks that contributed to the economic downfall. Three years later Warren designed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to
protect consumers from signing risky loans and to watch the credit bureaus. Later that year Warren became special assistant to President Obama, she

Senator Felix Grundy Of Kentucky
Senator Felix Grundy of Kentucky urged for war in his appeal to the Speaker in 1811 because he believed that the British were infringing on the
maritime rights of Americans, suddenly and without reason. He believed it was a violation of personal liberty that the government should not
stand for. On the opposition, Senator John Randolph of Virginia opposed the war and he did not believe Grundy 's appeal. In his appeal to the
Speaker in 1811, he said that the war was not for maritime rights, but for greed. He believed those in favor of the war saw land they could win
from the war and wanted to claim it as their own. He states in his speech that he did not hear a call for rights, but a chant for Canadian lands. In the
chance that I had been a part of the decision of going to war with Britain, I would have supported the war. Although nobody doubted British actions
against American shipping as crimes, the motives of the War Hawks were continually questioned. The War Hawks are a group of young congressmen
that were the new generation of political leaders. They are ardent nationalists that called for war with Britain. They spoke of defending honor against
British insults and in support of the annexation of Canada and the conquest of Florida, which is owned by the British ally, Spain (Foner 242). Despite

Creating A Coalition : Senator Smith
COURSE OF ACTION: Creating a Coalition Senator Smith should create an extensive network among interest groups in favor of changing the status
quo to bring different sides into an agreement and to create a stronger communication. The biggest allies to the climate change are political appointees,
such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and interest group, such as environmentalists, academic professionals, and clean energy industires.
While EPA has influence over the decision from the executive branch, most of the allies do not have a direct influence over agenda setting or
alternative specification. However, these groups have closer connection to the general public within states and local communities. The problem is that

Becoming A Texas Senator Essay
Texas Senator
If I were to become a senator of Texas I would have to be at least thirty years of age, have been a citizen for nine years, and live within the state of
Texas. Since the Senate consists of a hundred members, two per state, I would be one of two people to be elected for Texas State Senator.I would be
active six terms and would make $174,00 a year. A Congressional Session usually last most of the year. The Senate met 136 days through the course of
ten months according to Congress.gov.
As a Senator of Texas I would like more strictgun laws. I know that this issue has been brought up over the past few years and that it didn't do so well
with texans, but I do believe that a better gun control plan would benefit the state. Statistics state that the United States has over three hundred million
civilian firearms in circulation and twenty times the homicide rate than all other western nations combined. And recent practices conducted in other
countries have proven that the restriction of guns has had a dramatic impact on the death rate. For example, Japan passed a law in 1958 prohibiting the
possession of firearms. Since then Japan has become the country with the second–lowest death rate in the world. Similarly, after passing strict gun laws
in the 1990's, Australia and the United Kingdom have noticed a drastic decrease in gun–related deaths. Don't get me wrong I like the sense of security

The Teams From Western Canada For The Stanley Cup
HL, the Canadiens played two teams from Western Canada for the Stanley Cup. They defeated the Vancouver Maroons of the Pacific Coast Hockey
Association (PCHA) in two games of a best–of–three series and then faced the Calgary Tigers of the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL).[22] In
the first game against Calgary, Morenz scored a hat trick as the Canadiens won by a score of 6–1. He scored another goal in the second game, as
Montreal defeated the Tigers 3–0 to win their second Stanley Cup championship and Morenz 's first with the team.[22]

The following season, Morenz scored 28 goals and 11 assists for 39 points, placing second on the Canadiens and fourth in the NHL in scoring. That
was followed with seven goals and eight points in six playoff games, as Montreal lost in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Victoria Cougars of the WCHL.
Morenz tied with linemate AurГЁle Joliat in leading the Canadiens in scoring in 1925–26 with 26 points, finishing fifth in the league. In 1926–27 he
finished third in the league in goals, with 25, and points, with 32, to again lead the Canadiens. The one goal he scored in four playoff games was a

The Senator And The Sharecropper Summary
The story shows the social difference of the two round the same time in the same environment. The book The Senator and the Sharecropper give
the history and life of the two around the civil rights movement. Hamer is thee sharecropper and Eastland the senator. In this essay I will describe
the impact of the environment, how they viewed world and my opinion about understanding their story. The environment of the Mississippi Delta
played a huge role of the lives of Hamer and Eastland. Hammer life was not as great as Eastland going up in the Delta. The Mississippi Delta
climate was warm and humid great spot for soil and growing cotton. For Harmer life was hard such as living, shelter and safety. Growing up as a
sharecropper poor and work in cotton fields was not so nice her family could not afford food or clothing every day for the family. She didn't have
enough clothing for to attend school and she could not finish school because she had to work to help her family. Having to give up school at the six

Interview : Senator Flake 's Office
When signing up for an internship in Senator Flake's office, I did not know what to expect. I did not know the type of work I would be doing. I
hardly knew who Senator Flake was. It sounded like an interesting opportunity that I learned about at the job fair, and I thought it would be fun. It was
far more than fun though–I learned so much from my internship, researching for the office, attending meetings, writing letters, and staying up–to–date
on current events. More than anything else, though, I learned from the constituents themselves.
I started the internship quite liberal–minded, like many students at the University. My roommate joked with me that I would leave my internship at the
Senator's office a hard–core Republican, but I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After speaking to people, I often had a time to reflect on what I heard. The product was a much greater understanding of the complexity of the
American political system. I grew up thinking that that one side was right, and the other was full of irrational arguments. However, people sharing
bits of their lives with me taught me that is not true. The support and opposition for every policy makes sense, and deciding which is right is far more
of a value judgment than a facts–based judgment than I could have imagined. I feel less sure about what I believe politically after the internship, but
again, I do not think that is a bad thing. For the first time, I know how to enter into a thought process without a bias, and able to listen to both sides.
This skill is critical for any studies or career in the social sciences.
Talking to constituents, I also learned how to read the news. It requires a lot more critical thinking than I had imagined.
One day in Senator Flake's office, I received a phone call about the Senator wasting time at Neil Gorsuch's hearing by asking irrelevant questions. I
could not believe the comment–I had gained respect for the Senator, but I did not think it was right for him to use up valuable time in a hearing that
democrats and republicans around the country deserved to hear. After the phone call was finished, I looked up information about the scenario, and I
saw it lined up on Google, half a dozen sites

Impeachments For Senators
The requirements for Senators are an interesting point in the Constitution, and it surprises me that they remain identical to this day. Each senator serves
for six years. It's interesting that each elected Senator serves for three times as long as a Representative and for two years more than the President,
without re–election of course. Senators are required to be five years older than Representatives, but five years younger than the president, and they are
also responsible for the Impeachment process. It's interesting that Treason requires at least two eye–witness to overt treason, or open admission within
court, and the punishment can only be against the person who committed the crime, and not their associates or family. George Mason,

Senators Should Be Elected
Ruaa 9W
Oct.30 /2016
Senators should be Elected "When they call the roll in the Senate, the senators do not know whether to answer present or not guilty" (Theodore
Roosevelt/Google Images.) The Senate plays an important role in the Canadian government. Canada's Senate today is made up of a variety of
backgrounds such as different cultures and religions. It also includes both men and women. The Senate looks at the different issues that individuals or
groups might have. They look at the children, veterans, the poor, the elderly and much more. Senators look at issues in more depth. When the House
of Commons passes a bill, it must also pass a vote in the Senate before it becomes a law. Canada's Senate consists of one hundred five politicians, ...

People believe that senators should be elected not appointed. In Canada, the members that work in the Senate are all established by the Prime
minister. This system has been going on for many years but Canadians think that the senators should be elected because many of the members lack
their jobs and many don't put their best effort into it. The Senate is run differently than the House of Commons. In the Senate, there is no time limit
for when the bill is do which gives senators the freedom to take as much time needed to study the bill but sometimes senators take advantages of
that by not spending enough time on the bill and by not doing the best work. If senators get elected they would be representing the people which
means have bigger responsibilities toward the people. Senators would want to do really good and work more efficiently because they would want to
be elected again in the next election. Senators jobs are based on the different groups in society senators take a look at issues and bills that come from
the House of Commons in more depth. Canadians think that if senators were elected their main goal would be pleasing the people which mean that

always did what he thought to be right, and never cared what other people thought of him for it. He made it his goal to make the world a better place
for his, and our, ancestors to live, by fighting for the little man through things like Antitrust Laws, Civil Rights Laws, and the Voting Rights Act of
1964. Another thing that he strived to do was make the environment better. Some national parks are here because of him and they are greatly appreciated

Martin tentatively walked up to the senator, maneuvering through the crowds and asked him, "Mr. Senator, may I have your attention?" Martin

tone of such familiarity, and spun around quickly to address Martin. "Could you repeat that?" he asked. "There is a problem," Martin repeated with a
sense of urgency, "we are running out of provisions for the community, and the land is becoming too poor for us to produce more." Cray sighed, "The
is debated on as you are speaking, and the answer will come soon." Whispers drifted around them and through the crowd, anxious to find out if the

Requirement Of A Senator Essay
The requirement that you must be at least thirty years of age to sit as a senator is beyond unreasonable in terms of representation in current day Canada.
The Canadian voter turnout ages eighteen to twenty four was in the range of thirty– eight percent of the population as of 2011, with 2.9 million voting
in the federal election (Elections Canada, 2012). This number is staggering and proves that not only are more young Canadians interesting in democracy
and governmental affairs but that a large portion of Canadians are under the age of thirty and those diverse needs are not being met or addressed in
the Senate because of the age requirement. Those who serve as a Senator and are at the age of requirement or over cannot feasibly understand and
correlate with such a large demographic if they are not directly part of that age group. With the numbers of people under the age of thirty rising as

there is little room for remarkably consideration and acknowledgment for the changing societal and political environment of youth (Boyer, 2014). An
older senator may have more experience in the Senate and be a political and economic elitist but they may also be reluctant to recognize new and
innovative change. Today's youth have adapted so drastically to technological advances and innovation and are more susceptible to consider different

If it is already legal in one state it should be legal in all states, it is only fair. Marijuana is legal in a few states such as Colorado and Washington.
These are the only two states that have legalized it for "recreational" use, for ones enjoyment. According to the Governing the States and Localities
website, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, and of course, California are just some of the states that have legalized the use of medical marijuana
(Governing the States and Localities).
As an American citizen, I believe if it is "right" or "legal" in one state it should remain as it is on the other states. Therefore, since it is legal for
recreational use in Colorado and Washington, it should be available to all of the states in America, including the states with legal medical use. I
believe it definitely needs to be a federal issue; it isn't fair for the drug to be handed in some states and prohibited in others. American citizens should
have the right to obtain marijuana regardless of what state they live in, it should be legal for all states!
Either way, it will happen illegally if we do not legalize it. The federal government doesn't realize that people are and will still be doing or having a
way of obtaining marijuana regardless of it being legal or illegal. This is valuable time and money we (and the federal government) are wasting

The Senate provides each states with two votes; ergo there are two Senators that represent each state. These two topics remain has some of the hottest and most popular contentions of debate; and its important to know every political figures stance on these points. People come to the United States for the promise of freedom and opportunity. But the current immigration system in the United States is broken families are separated, immigrant workers are exploited, people die trying to cross the border, and there is rampant discrimination against immigrants. Senator Reid wants to change that. Senator Reid believes tin reuniting and keeping families together. Alaska could benefit greatly from this offer, as well. *Victor sits back in his seat and slowly regains his composure & pride* *Everyone dismisses Victor's outburst and carries on* Senator Jocelyn – In fact, you were the one to initiate this proposal. • 4. Senator Lindsey Graham: A Brief Biography Senator Lindsey Graham was born in Central, South Carolina on July 9, 1955. His parents were the owners of a local bar and liquor store in the town of Central and after high school he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina, which made him the first person in his family to attend college (McNamee). His childhood was somewhat tough because his family had money issues and because of that he had to do some local odd jobs as a child to help support his family financially (Raju). During his time at college both of parents died around the same time of each other, with his mother dying and then his father dying a year later (Raju). As a result, of these sudden tragedies, Graham, who is nine years older than his sister had to take greater responsibilities in terms of supporting his sister while attending college at the same time (Raju). • 5. Case Study Of Senator Sanders TAIWO OLADUNNI. The two potential reasons why Senator Sanders supports increasing top tax rates is so as discourage 'greed' which is broadly defined as extracting income at the expense of the rest of the economy as opposed to real productive behavior. This plan would result in an all–in tax rate of over 65% on income between $500,000 and $2 million which would definitely push rates near the revenue maximizing level. Mr. Sanders tends on counting on those high incomes to generate the high receipts needed to fund his single–payer health plan which is a problem. The other reason is that higher tax rates on the highest earners can generate revenue to pay for new programs, and they can encourage a more equal distribution of pretax income ... A conscientious senator can bring numerous remarkable prospects for the state and people. Otherwise, people will suffer from various inconveniences. In the United States, state senators are officials who represent their own districts within the states. In most states, state senators are required to serve in the house of the state government's legislature and one role in common is state senators must represent their districts' residents. For representing the constituents, the state senators need to listen and read the emails and letters which express the constituents' opinions. Next, the state senators should attend to constituents. • 8. State Senator Reflection On February 16, 2016, I traveled to Lansing, Michigan, to job shadow State Senator Coleman A. Young II. I emailed one of his assistants, Jewell Gillespie, and we set up a meeting on the 16th. I wanted to see what the job of a politician was like. I thought a State Senator would be a great starting point. It was also close to my home. Each Senator has an office, which are all in a building close to the Michigan State Capitol. Some days in the week, they walk down to Michigan State Capitol, where the senators and representatives have a session. On the day I job shadowed, the session started with a recess. The senators did work on their laptops or met in small groups. I watched from above in a balcony. Elementary classes were also touring the building; the recess would stop to recognize them. Before recess ended, I was also acknowledged and given a round of applause. Then, they put to vote a few bills. The senators voted by pushing a button for yes or no. • 10. Senator Rubio Case Study Descriptive representation may not have a positive and significant impact on a politician's agenda. This case study is on Republican U.S. Senator Marco Rubio. He was born on May 28, 1971 in Miami, Florida. His parents were born in Cuba, which makes Senator Rubio a Cuban American. He makes a great case study to reflect on the opposite idea of descriptive representation in the political system. It is essential to talk about his parents' history with immigration in order to understand why he does not correctly represent Latinos, especially Cuban–Americans or other minority groups that he should be representing. United States Senator For Florida United States Senator for Florida, Marco Rubio once stated, "The Hispanic community understands the American Dream and have not forgotten what they were promised – that in the U.S., a free market system allows us all to succeed economically, achieve stability and security for your family and leave your children better off than yourselves." Every year Hispanics search the regions of Texas in search of this very opportunity to better themselves and especially their youth. One such region is the poverty stricken region that is the Rio Grande Valley. It is a region that has begun to accept its current role as nothing more than a region of widespread poverty and undervalued skill, but there is one man who will not sit idly by and watch as this region and the Hispanics who inhabit it are characterized by benighted stereotypes and filled with cruel insults. There is one man who will work diligently to better the region. That man is Eric Garza. Garza believes, "Future opportunity exists for Hispanics to excel and advance themselves and their families" (Garza). He sees that a disheartened culture has suddenly sprung up and is on the cusp of something greater than what people believe they can achieve. Ever since I began to take an interest in politics, I always leaned towards the conservative side of the spectrum but everyone else around me identified as a liberal. As an African–American male, it is hard to come out as a black republican, especially when you attend a Historically Black College. For the last couple of decades, the black community has tended to vote Democrat and when they see one of their own come out as a republican, they reject that person and instantly decry them. So many blacks who do share conservative views choose not to come out as republican, partly because of the backlash they expect to face. However, this is not the case of Senator Tim Scott. While Senator Elizabeth Warren is not a spring chicken and is white, that is where the similarities end. The following information is from "Elizabeth Warren" (2015). Senator Warren came from a struggling middle class family, the youngest of four. Her father suffered from a heart attack and the family began to accumulate medical bills. Warren started working at the age of 13 to help pay the bills. Graduating high school at the age of 16, Warren attended George Washington University on a full ride debate scholarship, a skill she would use periodically throughout her life. Graduating the University of Houston with a speech pathology degree she became the first person in her family to graduate college. • 20. Senator Felix Grundy Of Kentucky Senator Felix Grundy of Kentucky urged for war in his appeal to the Speaker in 1811 because he believed that the British were infringing on the maritime rights of Americans, suddenly and without reason. He believed it was a violation of personal liberty that the government should not stand for. On the opposition, Senator John Randolph of Virginia opposed the war and he did not believe Grundy 's appeal. In his appeal to the Speaker in 1811, he said that the war was not for maritime rights, but for greed. He believed those in favor of the war saw land they could win from the war and wanted to claim it as their own. He states in his speech that he did not hear a call for rights, but a chant for Canadian lands. In the chance that I had been a part of the decision of going to war with Britain, I would have supported the war. Although nobody doubted British actions against American shipping as crimes, the motives of the War Hawks were continually questioned. The War Hawks are a group of young congressmen that were the new generation of political leaders. They are ardent nationalists that called for war with Britain. They spoke of defending honor against British insults and in support of the annexation of Canada and the conquest of Florida, which is owned by the British ally, Spain (Foner 242). Despite their concentration on practical goals, like the expansion of America, these young men upheld principles of free trade and wanted to liberate the United States from European ... I come before you all today, humbled by all that God has blessed me with. I am a first generation college student, I come from a single parent household and I understand how hard it was for some of us to reach this far. Although this class has not been with each other for an extended period of time, I have been able to shake some your hands, hear some of your stories, and understand how we could improve this school together. On today I think back on the rich history of Texas SouthernUniversity. I think about all that this institution and its student have had to endure over time. Creating A Coalition : Senator Smith COURSE OF ACTION: Creating a Coalition Senator Smith should create an extensive network among interest groups in favor of changing the status quo to bring different sides into an agreement and to create a stronger communication. The biggest allies to the climate change are political appointees, such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and interest group, such as environmentalists, academic professionals, and clean energy industires. While EPA has influence over the decision from the executive branch, most of the allies do not have a direct influence over agenda setting or alternative specification. However, these groups have closer connection to the general public within states and local communities. The problem is that while these interest groups share similar opinions about the need to address the climate change issue, they have different alternative policies that they advocate. The first step is to push up the climate change higher on the agenda, and working together is essential to achieve this goal. The Senator Smith should contact interest groups in each state to find an agreement among different interest group and to create a coalition.
