The art work from the 1400's to the 1600's showed a drastic change after 1520 when Mannerism was brought about. After a while the Mannerist style
was known to not be such a good thing. People saw the paintings as not classical and distorted or out of proportion. Mannerism seemed to coincide
with a period of political and religious unrest which lead to and age of anxiety and crisis where the clarity and confidence of the High Renaissance was

During the Renaissance it was all about the Church and representing it, once the sack of Rome happened in 1527 that is when everything went down
hill and people began to paint in the distorted, uneven manner of Mannerism. In both the Madonna of the Rocks and the Madonna of the Meadows
there is a sense of peace for them both being out in nature where everything is pure. Also they both seem happier; the expressions on the faces seem
less concerned as in Parmigianino's.

The Louvre:
'The Louvre' is the museum I researched, and 'Virgin of the Rocks' is the painting I decided to choose. The Louvre Museum is the largest in the
world, and is situated in Paris, France. Around 35,000 objects are exhibited over an area of around 40 square miles. The Louvre is also the second
most visited museum in the world, trailing only the Palace Museum in China. The louvre has more than 9 million visitors annually. (Louvre, 2016)
The museum opened to the public on August 10, 1793. At this point it only had a little over 500 paintings in its possession. Most of these works were
either royal art, or confiscated church property. During the years of 1796 until 1801, the Louvre was closed due to maintenance and construction.
Eventually, this collection was added to with contributions during the reigns of Louis XVIII and Charles X. Furthermore, the Second French Empire

have yet to even hear about. Admittedly, these works were not created with the intent of being seen outside the artist's studio, but rather to aid in his
critical thinking process. These works are mostly comprised of drawings. Studies for a Nativity is one such exquisitive yet commonly unrecognizable
drawing which greatly helped Leonardo da Vinci in his critical thinking process.
Studies for a Nativity is one of many drawings that can be found within Leonardo's hundreds of notebooks. Perhaps in this way Leonardo had an
advantage to past artists. To clarify, possessing such a large quantity of notebooks was almost unheard of a century prior. This is because paper had

The Renaissance was a new age in Europe. It means "rebirth', which was a demonstration of what was going on at the time. People began to explore
the world, develop new artistic styles, and make advances in math and science ("Renaissance"). Leonardo was the leader of the pack. He is the man
behind the brush of some of the most iconic paintings ever, including "The Last Supper", "Mona Lisa", and "Vitruvian Man." He was commissioned
by Ludovico in 1495 to begin the last supper. The painting took da Vinci nearly three years, and shows the moment went Jesus notifies his Twelve
Apostles that one of them would soon betray him. Da Vinci does an incredible job of capturing the intensity of the moment. He demonstrates his
brilliance with his masterful strokes that portray the facial expressions and body language of everyone in the room ("Leonardo da Vinci"). Leonardo
spent a lot of time examining the human body to try perfecting his art. He had an acute understanding of proportions and movements of the human
body. In his painting, "Vitruvian Man", it is clear that he understands more than most humans of that time period. "Vitruvian Man" states that the
average man is nearly two meters tall, and his outstretched arms are equal to the length of his body ("The Complete Works"). In the "Mona Lisa", uses
some of his own techniques to make the painting extremely realistic. He treated objects as 3–D figures, and used shadows, instead of lines, when
outlining figures. Nobody knows who "Mona Lisa" depicts, but that is beside the fact. It is easily one of the most famous paintings of all time. Using
his knowledge, da Vinci made his paintings more realistic and defined. He is also credited with developed the techniques known as "chiaroscuro" and
