2. PLOT
I found this short film on YouTube. Its all about a woman who is
preparing to go on a date with a man. It starts with her trying on
different clothes and realizing that none of them fit her, she then gets a
phone call form the man saying he is coming in half an hour. She rushes
to the bathroom to discover that her face seems to be able to be pulled
around and moved to however she wants. She makes herself into the
perfect model. The camera then pans to a photo of her old self which
makes her realize that she needs to be herself because that’s the best
she can be.
3. MISE-EN-SCÈNE: SETTING
/LOCATION
The setting is all around her bedroom. It looks like a typical girls
bedroom with a girly bed and girly clothes around her. Her
bathroom looks more rundown and untouched, to maybe show that
she doesn't often get ready for dates and doesn't often need to put
all of this makeup on. I think its made to look like she doesn't really
do much with her life which might make the audience feel sorry for
the character.
4. MISE-EN-SCÈNE:
ICONOGRAPHY AND PROPS
The iconic place in this film is probably the skyline at the end
which might attract a specific audience. The other parts of
the film are just the girl in her room which isn't iconic as
much. The props she uses are things like magazines and
nice clothes which could relate to a more girly audience, as
girls know the struggle of finding nice outfits and clothes.
5. MISE-EN-SCÈNE:
COLOUR AND
LIGHTING
I think the director has set this short film in the early evening to
get the most realistic lighting as the girl was going on a date for
dinner at 6:30. if it was really bright it wouldn't’t look as romantic
as the couple where setting off into the city on there date.
6. MISE-EN-SCÈNE: MAKE
UP AND COSTUME
The make up and clothes where very important in this short film
because of how she pretended herself. She seemed like she didn’t
have much clothes that actually fit her, which could imply that she
doesn't really care what she thinks about herself. Also when she
made herself up to look like a model, the director would have put
loads of makeup onto the model to show that this is fake and not who
she actually is. Its also shows girls that loads of makeup and a
skinny face isn't always the best.
7. EDITING: SOUND AND VISION
There was no background song or anything going on in the
begging of the short movie. But after the phone call music
starts to play when she is getting ready. It sounds like music
that makes you feel pressured and rushed. Its jolly and
happy music which matches her excitement for the date.
There is dialog from the two characters on the phone and
also when they walk off into the city. The cuts of this film are
very clever because it almost tells you what she's thinking
without her saying it. My favorite is when she finds out she
can change her face then she glances over to the magazine.
8. CINEMATOGRAPHY
This film is clever because it speaks for you with the shots
and with what the girl is thinking.
9. TITLES AND CREDITS
There where a lot of credits for this film which surprises me
as I didn’t think that It would use that many people
