THE BEHAVIOUS OF
AUDIENCE
By Tammy Rudd
Maslowe’s hierarchy of
needs
According to Abraham Maslowe’s theory audience’s have
individual needs which are all structured in this pyramid above.
The things at the bottom are all things that are essential to
surviving. Things like breathing and having food and water.
Maslowe understood that self actualization needs can only be
met if these bottom needs (physiological) needs are met.
Models of audience behavior
The media effects the model as audiences as they are seen to be:
- passively led
- gullible
- influenced and manipulated by all that they consume
- impressionable
Blumler and Katz think that these needs are for:
- entertainment
- escapismo
- seeking information
- distraction
- social relationships
- person identity
Two Step Flow
Paul lazarsfeld, Benard Berelson and Hazel Gaudet
all found that the information doesn't flow directly
from the text into the mind of the audience. They
published there results showing this in a paper
called peoples choice.
