The document analyzes the film techniques used in the opening scene of a film. It summarizes that realistic sound effects were used to match the scene and intensify the impact. A bird's eye view shot captured the crowd of party youths to establish the setting. Close up shots of characters smoking weed and a mid-shot portraying a character's relaxed body language were used to depict the type of people and atmosphere. Low key lighting, point of view shots, and costumes were employed to set the scene of a street party and portray the street life of youths.
2. Sound
The opening scene starts with silence which is
effective because it creates anticipation for the
audience.
They have used realistic sound effects to
match what is in the scene and create more
powerful impact and adds intensity to the
scene.
There is a use of non-diegetic sound to
connote the theme of youths in the scene.
At the start of the sequence sound was loud
but when dialogue comes into it the sound has
been tuned down so they can hear the
characters voice and dialogue.
3. Cinematography
They got an establishing shot of the cars coming down the main
road to show the setting the opening sequence.
The used a bird eyes view shot to capture the crowd of party
youths, this show the audience where the party is and the
people involved in the scene.
The used a close up shot of youths smoking weed to show the
audience what kind of people they are, their reaction when they
inhale the weed and also their facial expression.
The use of a mid-shot was to portray the body language of the
character, in this case the shot showed the character to be
relaxed and lean which is a component of a gangsta look.
The use of the point of view shot of the man looking into the
mirrors make the audience feel like they are in this situation of
gangsta looking to cause trouble.
The close shot of the gun shows the audience the importance of
the gun in this scene and amount of impact it will cause.
4. Editing & lightning
The low key lighting in the street party is used to first
show the setting is in the dark and also to build up
suspense to what could be happen later on in the
scene.
The focused point of view shot of the mirror
symbolises the importance of the reflection of the
two characters because it focuses on the mirror
ignoring out anything else in the scene.
The cross fading between scenes at the start shows
us that it’s a sequence and gives us a summery of
the previous plot because it allows the plot to be
summarised in a short time period because the fade
overlays the less important scenes.
The use of edit to out focus the street light creates a
background effect for the ‘six years later’ title scene.
5. Mise-en-scene
Because the characters are based in the youth world
most male characters wore urban outfits such as
hoodies, tracksuit bottoms and accessories like
watches and hats. These costumes are used to
portray the street life of the youths nowadays.
Girls in the street party wore revealing clothes to
show that females who are involved in the streets
are often there for male satisfaction.
The male in the car wore a outfit which is not street
clothing, this was used to portray the difference
between the youths that hanged around the street
and youths that partied a lot to the normal middle
class people
