Tainted turkey is the likely source of the latest salmonella outbreak. An antibiotic–resistant strain of
salmonella has made its way into at least 26 states, killing one person and sickening 77. On
Wednesday, the U.S. health officials were investigating the source of the outbreak, which they
believe is tied to tainted ground turkey. The probe so far points to a single facility. The location of
which is being withheld? That has produced three of four salmonella–infected ground turkey
samples taken from four stores. The salmonella strain involved worries officials because it is
resistant to common antibiotics, raising the risk of hospitalization and treatment failure, the CDC
says. It is estimated that 1 of 6 Americans or 48 million people (roughly) get sick from food borne
illnesses, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die from food borne illnesses. When they find out that
someone has come in contact with a food borne illness they try to alert the rest of the U.S and
remove that food from the selves, so that no one else comes in contact with the infectious disease.

groups showing heart wrenching abuse. One example of this is an undercover video released by the
HSUS, which shows severe animal abuse at the Hallmark Meat Packing factory. According to

Salmonella thyphi is a gram–negative bacterium, which causes systemic infections and Typhoid
fever in human beings. It is rod shaped and is flagellated and inhabits the lympathic tissues of the
small intestine, liver, spleen, and bloodstream of infected humans. This bacterium belongs to the
family Enterobacteriaceae. There have been typhoid fever outbreaks in many different countries
including United States of America, Canada and Uganda. Being Uganda the most recent place to
have an epidemic for typhoid, I will discuss about this particular outbreak in detail.
The incubation period of this infection is 1 to 3 weeks. It is more likely for the infection to spread in
developing countries due to insanitary environment. Typhoid fever is usually transmitted through
contaminated food and water, and uncooked food. The bacterium cells undergo gradual genomic
changes, which allows Salmonella to thrive in undercooked meat. It is also able to adapt and to
survive the cooking process; therefore, can cross the gastric acid barrier. A high–fat matrix protects
Salmonella against these stressful environments. Symptoms of Typhoid fever may be mild or severe
and include high fever, malaise, headache, constipation or diarrhea, rose–colored spots on the chest,

high–speed centrifugation and other modern purification. Besides, we also can use advanced
purification techniques to purify phages and to ensure that they are free form unwanted bacteria. We
