SCENE 1: INT. INSIDE THE MAIN CHARCATERS HOME – MORNING
Jack is coming down the stairs as he sorts what he is
wearing out, he has just gotten out of bed and is headed
outside to do his usual Saturday morning schedule.
JACK LODGE (VOICE OVER):
Smiling is great! As soon as someone
starts to smile others notice and can
become happier themselves, even if your
sad smiling is the best option to make it
seem that you’re happy.
Jack puts on his shoes and bends down to tie the laces.
JACK (VOICE OVER):
That’s why I’m always smiling, not because
I’m always sad but because I love to make
others feel happy even if there not.
Scene 2: Ext. Jack leaves his front door locking it behind
him. - Morning
NEXTDOOR NEIGBOUR:
Mornin’ Jack. How’s everything with you
today then?
Jack with a huge smile on his face,
JACK:
I’m doing great Phil, where you off to
this morning.
NEXTDOOR NEIGBOUR:
You know, the usual morning shop for me
Jack.
JACK:
Well have a good day Phil and keep safe
for me will you.
Jack gives a small chuckle.
3
NEXTDOOR NEIGBOUR:
Will do.
He waves and walks off; Jack nods and smiles back.
JACK (VOICE OVER):
I fact I’ve even got quite the name for
myself around here because of my outgoing
happiness. All the locals say hello when
they walk by and ask how everything is and
I even get those old ladies from down the
road come up to me and give me their
sloppy kisses on the cheek from time to
time. (Chuckle)
Jack leaves his front gate out onto the street and starts
to dig around in his pocket. He pulls out a small black
note pad and a pen from the opposite one. He opens the
notepad and riffles through a few pages until landing on
one that he quickly scribbles something out on. (We won’t
see what it is). He carries on walking.
JACK (VOICE OVER):
Although I get quite a bit of nice
attention, I don’t really have many
friends. The only two I do have are my
mates Sam and Lewis, they’ve been my
friends since I started school here and
are truly good ones at that.
As Jack is walking, another teenage boy runs out of a
separate street and jumps on his back with another boy
close behind him.
LEWIS:
Oi you creepy fuck, you just gonna walk
past us without even stopping to say
hello.
JACK:
(Laughing) Hi Lew, sorry about that I
didn’t even see you. To busy daydreaming,
I guess.
4
SAM:
Hiya jack, you alright?
JACK:
Yeah, I’m not too bad Sam, how about
yourself.
SAM:
I’m good, me and Lewis where just off to
the shops actually, you wanna join us?
They all start to head off together down the road in a line
of three. We focus on Lewis who’s on the right.
JACK (VOICEOVER):
So that’s Lewis. If you couldn’t tell he’s
the much livelier one out the three of us.
He’s a great laugh and someone you’d
always want to stick around with. He never
lets someone be unhappy and if he sees you
are, he will always cheer you up somehow.
In that respects we are much similar.
And the other one is Sam. (We now focus to
Sam) He is the adult out of us three and
will always keep us in check if we’re
being too stupid. He is always very
sensible and calm and he’s also the person
I go to if I need help with any issues as
I know he will always give me helpful and
sound advice.
The three walk off joking around and laughing about with
each other.
Scene 3: EXT. Outside Jacks house with Sam, Lewis and Jack.
A casual uplifting type song plays – Afternoon
JACK:
I’ll see you guys later yeah.
5
SAM:
See ya Jack, thanks for the help with our
shop this morning mate.
LEWIS:
Yeah see ya later Jack. We all still
meeting tomorrow for the day just to have
a piss about down at the park.
JACK:
Course we are. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.
Jack waves whilst opening his front gate and walking in,
the others wave back and walk away with each other.
Scene 4: INT. Jack opens his door walks into his house and
shuts the door behind him, with this the song suddenly
stops. He starts to un-lacing his shoes. He takes them off
and very carefully places them next to each other with the
fronts touching the wall (whilst this happens all we can
hear is what’s happening, no music or dialogue). He walks
into his house and then into what seems to be his living
room, he slumps into a chair and reaches into his pocket to
retrieve his notepad and pencil which he again places very
carefully onto the table next to his chair. We focus on the
notepad as he places it onto the table, it’s battered and
worn and the pencil is dirty with the lead broken at an
angle. Jack turns the T.V on and changes the channels to
the news.
Scene 5: INT. newsroom with two reporters reporting the
news – Afternoon/early evening
NEWS REPORTER 1:
Good afternoon everyone this is LFZ news
and we are coming to you today with a very
urgent news story. 3 people have been
reported missing within the last week and
no sign of them have been found.
NEWS REPORTER 2:
Yes, the people reported were Suzan Dike,
Harry Wenlock and Josh Harvard. The three
were said to be missing around 10pm on
Sunday evening around the local area.
6
The news report proceeds as we zoom in on the T.V the sound
gets more and more muffled the closer we get until we
eventually cut to black with all audio stopping.
Scene 6: INT. We come back in from the black to a close-up
Jack staring forward and the noise of the T.V still
playing, but no longer on the news. The room is dark, and a
small side table lamp is on. – Evening
JACK:
Television is always a great way to
distract us from what’s happening in
reality. I guess that’s why I can sit and
watch it for hours on end. And the news
reports of what’s happening scare me, the
news never reports the good, only the bad,
you can never smile whilst watching the
news. It only presents grief.
Jack gets up whilst turning the T.V and lamp off, he grabs
his notepad and heads up stairs. He enters his room and
undresses down to his pants. He then enters his bed and
falls asleep.
Scene 7: INT. We see Jack down on his knees closing his
washing machine and twisting the crank turning it on. He
walks off to the front door putting on his jacket and
sliding his feet into his shoes one at a time then kneeling
down to tie his laces. There’s a knock at the door, to
which Jack opens the door. – Morning
LEWIS:
Come on man lets goooo!
JACK:
Hiya mate, yeah I’ll be out in one mo let
me just grab some stuff real quick.
Jack quickly heads into the room with the washing machine
clanking around. He grabs his notepad and pencil and stuffs
them into his pockets. He walks past the camera and it
transitions into him leaving his house closing the door
behind him. Scene 8: EXT – morning
Jack and his two friends are walking down the street into
their local hang out, the park.
7
SAM:
Did you guys here about the people going
missing lately?
LEWIS:
Yeah I heard about that from my dad, it’s
creepy as shit!
JACK:
Yeah it said on the news that even that
Suzan girl has gone missing, she was what…
15?
LEWIS:
Oooooooo I bet you did it Sam, knowing
that there’s a little girl involved.
Jack and Lewis start laughing.
SAM:
What the fuck, this isn’t funny Lew. What
if these people are hurt?
LEWIS:
Nahhh doubt it, I bet its some silly joke
people are on the police or something
JACK:
(finishing his giggles), nah come on Lew
Sam’s got a point. Although I wouldn’t
worry about it Sam, try ignore it, it’s
not good to think about that sort of stuff
too much.
SAM:
Guess so yeah, anyway let’s do something
fun and stop talking about this nonsense
LEWIS:
That’s more like it
8
Jack, Sam and Lewis get up and start to play with a
football between them, laughing and pushing each other
about.
Scene 9: EXT. The three are heading home and are standing
by the gate to the park. Sam and Lewis stand on the
opposite side of the road to Jack
LEWIS:
See you guys later
Lewis waves at the two and walks off down the pavement
SAM:
Yeah see ya guys soon, don’t go missing
The three laugh and walk their separate ways home each
waving as they turn back to say goodbye again.
Scene 10: INT. we arrive at Jacks front door as he places
his hand on the doorknob and opens the door entering his
home. He does his seen before routine of very carefully
taking his shoes off and placing them perfectly by the wall
and very neatly hanging his coat up on the back of his
door. He heads over to his washing machine and takes out
his washed clothes and cautiously places them on a drying
rack whilst removing any noticeable creases he sees. He
then goes to his living room towards his chair and turns on
his side table lamp slumping down onto the cushion and
again placing his battered pencil and note pad down beside
it. He switches the TV on - Evening
(for this part on the TV I don’t want the screen to play
anything to the audience, just a blue light as jack watches
what we cannot see, whilst the dialogue will still be
detectable).
NEWS REPORTER:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen this is
LFZ news coming to you with an update on
the recent top news report. The victims of
last weeks missing reports have been found
dead in black head industrial green, all
three have been confirmed as murders as
police describe the bodies as being
mutilated by what seems to be most likely
that of a blade. More have been reported
9
missing in this area and the case is being
dealt with caution and speed by local
authorities. This is a great tragedy, one
that rivals any before in this town and we
urge residence to be careful around the
local area at this time of horror.
Jack takes the remote and changes the channel to standard
television and leans back in his chair watching with no
expression.
JACK:
See, all it gives is grief and panic. No
one can smile knowing the realities of
what’s happening around the world, so why
show it.
Scene 11: INT. We see Jack getting up from his bed and
starting to put clothes on. He heads downstairs and makes
himself some cereal, he then walks to his dining room table
placing the bowl of food gently down onto it. He sits and
eats staring off into the distance again with no expression
to his face. He puts the spoon down and carries on looking
into nothingness.
JACK:
I have to keep Sam and Lewis safe from
this upset. I would hate to not see them
smile.
Scene 12: INT. Jack gets up from the table emptying what
remains into the bin, he then rinses the bowl, dries it and
places it back very neatly with the others. He walks to his
front door putting on his shoes in his normal manner and
leaves. - Moring
Scene 13: EXT. He exits his gate and walks off down the
road.
Scene 14: EXT. The same shot continues but it suddenly
changes to Sunset/evening time (with a sound that works
with the change). Jack re-enters his gate and walks up to
his front door, he opens the door and enters after a small
pause. When he gets in, he takes his shoes off but this
time not to his normal routine, he strips down to his pants
in the hallway, scrunches them into a ball and heads to the
washing machine. In quick succession he puts the clothes
in, closes the door, puts powder in and turns it on. He
10
leaves the washing machine, but we stay fixated onto it
watching it go around. With no pauses Jack heads straight
to bed, he turns his light out and falls asleep. – Evening
Scene 15: INT. Jack is sat in his chair with his notepad
open on his lap and pencil in his hand, he’s watching TV
(the screen is just blue again for us). – Morning
NEWS REPOTER:
We have an upsetting update on the recent
tragedies that have been occurring within
the local village. Two more bodies have
been found dead with similar wounds to the
rest that have been found, the two
identified were the teenage boys Sam
Locksmith and Lewis Edmunds.
As the names are announced we see over Jack’s shoulder, in
his notepad he again is crossing something out but this
time we can see. We see a list of names of those who have
been either found dead or said to be missing, however this
time he is crossing the names Sam and Lewis.
Jack closes the note pad and places it back onto the table
and leans over to place his pencil next to it. He falls
back into the chair and faces towards the ceiling, with a
slight grin on his face.
JACK:
Smiling is great, you can fool others to
think your happy when you’re not, you can
make others feel better with it and you
can hide the darkest of secrets and
desires behind it. Although smiling can’t
always protect the people you know from
those secrets and desires…I guess it’s
time to smile somewhere else.

Facade script (1)

  • 1. “FACADE” By James Morris James Morris Ringwood school sixth form 01425 475000
  • 2. 2 SCENE 1: INT. INSIDE THE MAIN CHARCATERS HOME – MORNING Jack is coming down the stairs as he sorts what he is wearing out, he has just gotten out of bed and is headed outside to do his usual Saturday morning schedule. JACK LODGE (VOICE OVER): Smiling is great! As soon as someone starts to smile others notice and can become happier themselves, even if your sad smiling is the best option to make it seem that you’re happy. Jack puts on his shoes and bends down to tie the laces. JACK (VOICE OVER): That’s why I’m always smiling, not because I’m always sad but because I love to make others feel happy even if there not. Scene 2: Ext. Jack leaves his front door locking it behind him. - Morning NEXTDOOR NEIGBOUR: Mornin’ Jack. How’s everything with you today then? Jack with a huge smile on his face, JACK: I’m doing great Phil, where you off to this morning. NEXTDOOR NEIGBOUR: You know, the usual morning shop for me Jack. JACK: Well have a good day Phil and keep safe for me will you. Jack gives a small chuckle.
  • 3. 3 NEXTDOOR NEIGBOUR: Will do. He waves and walks off; Jack nods and smiles back. JACK (VOICE OVER): I fact I’ve even got quite the name for myself around here because of my outgoing happiness. All the locals say hello when they walk by and ask how everything is and I even get those old ladies from down the road come up to me and give me their sloppy kisses on the cheek from time to time. (Chuckle) Jack leaves his front gate out onto the street and starts to dig around in his pocket. He pulls out a small black note pad and a pen from the opposite one. He opens the notepad and riffles through a few pages until landing on one that he quickly scribbles something out on. (We won’t see what it is). He carries on walking. JACK (VOICE OVER): Although I get quite a bit of nice attention, I don’t really have many friends. The only two I do have are my mates Sam and Lewis, they’ve been my friends since I started school here and are truly good ones at that. As Jack is walking, another teenage boy runs out of a separate street and jumps on his back with another boy close behind him. LEWIS: Oi you creepy fuck, you just gonna walk past us without even stopping to say hello. JACK: (Laughing) Hi Lew, sorry about that I didn’t even see you. To busy daydreaming, I guess.
  • 4. 4 SAM: Hiya jack, you alright? JACK: Yeah, I’m not too bad Sam, how about yourself. SAM: I’m good, me and Lewis where just off to the shops actually, you wanna join us? They all start to head off together down the road in a line of three. We focus on Lewis who’s on the right. JACK (VOICEOVER): So that’s Lewis. If you couldn’t tell he’s the much livelier one out the three of us. He’s a great laugh and someone you’d always want to stick around with. He never lets someone be unhappy and if he sees you are, he will always cheer you up somehow. In that respects we are much similar. And the other one is Sam. (We now focus to Sam) He is the adult out of us three and will always keep us in check if we’re being too stupid. He is always very sensible and calm and he’s also the person I go to if I need help with any issues as I know he will always give me helpful and sound advice. The three walk off joking around and laughing about with each other. Scene 3: EXT. Outside Jacks house with Sam, Lewis and Jack. A casual uplifting type song plays – Afternoon JACK: I’ll see you guys later yeah.
  • 5. 5 SAM: See ya Jack, thanks for the help with our shop this morning mate. LEWIS: Yeah see ya later Jack. We all still meeting tomorrow for the day just to have a piss about down at the park. JACK: Course we are. I’ll see you guys tomorrow. Jack waves whilst opening his front gate and walking in, the others wave back and walk away with each other. Scene 4: INT. Jack opens his door walks into his house and shuts the door behind him, with this the song suddenly stops. He starts to un-lacing his shoes. He takes them off and very carefully places them next to each other with the fronts touching the wall (whilst this happens all we can hear is what’s happening, no music or dialogue). He walks into his house and then into what seems to be his living room, he slumps into a chair and reaches into his pocket to retrieve his notepad and pencil which he again places very carefully onto the table next to his chair. We focus on the notepad as he places it onto the table, it’s battered and worn and the pencil is dirty with the lead broken at an angle. Jack turns the T.V on and changes the channels to the news. Scene 5: INT. newsroom with two reporters reporting the news – Afternoon/early evening NEWS REPORTER 1: Good afternoon everyone this is LFZ news and we are coming to you today with a very urgent news story. 3 people have been reported missing within the last week and no sign of them have been found. NEWS REPORTER 2: Yes, the people reported were Suzan Dike, Harry Wenlock and Josh Harvard. The three were said to be missing around 10pm on Sunday evening around the local area.
  • 6. 6 The news report proceeds as we zoom in on the T.V the sound gets more and more muffled the closer we get until we eventually cut to black with all audio stopping. Scene 6: INT. We come back in from the black to a close-up Jack staring forward and the noise of the T.V still playing, but no longer on the news. The room is dark, and a small side table lamp is on. – Evening JACK: Television is always a great way to distract us from what’s happening in reality. I guess that’s why I can sit and watch it for hours on end. And the news reports of what’s happening scare me, the news never reports the good, only the bad, you can never smile whilst watching the news. It only presents grief. Jack gets up whilst turning the T.V and lamp off, he grabs his notepad and heads up stairs. He enters his room and undresses down to his pants. He then enters his bed and falls asleep. Scene 7: INT. We see Jack down on his knees closing his washing machine and twisting the crank turning it on. He walks off to the front door putting on his jacket and sliding his feet into his shoes one at a time then kneeling down to tie his laces. There’s a knock at the door, to which Jack opens the door. – Morning LEWIS: Come on man lets goooo! JACK: Hiya mate, yeah I’ll be out in one mo let me just grab some stuff real quick. Jack quickly heads into the room with the washing machine clanking around. He grabs his notepad and pencil and stuffs them into his pockets. He walks past the camera and it transitions into him leaving his house closing the door behind him. Scene 8: EXT – morning Jack and his two friends are walking down the street into their local hang out, the park.
  • 7. 7 SAM: Did you guys here about the people going missing lately? LEWIS: Yeah I heard about that from my dad, it’s creepy as shit! JACK: Yeah it said on the news that even that Suzan girl has gone missing, she was what… 15? LEWIS: Oooooooo I bet you did it Sam, knowing that there’s a little girl involved. Jack and Lewis start laughing. SAM: What the fuck, this isn’t funny Lew. What if these people are hurt? LEWIS: Nahhh doubt it, I bet its some silly joke people are on the police or something JACK: (finishing his giggles), nah come on Lew Sam’s got a point. Although I wouldn’t worry about it Sam, try ignore it, it’s not good to think about that sort of stuff too much. SAM: Guess so yeah, anyway let’s do something fun and stop talking about this nonsense LEWIS: That’s more like it
  • 8. 8 Jack, Sam and Lewis get up and start to play with a football between them, laughing and pushing each other about. Scene 9: EXT. The three are heading home and are standing by the gate to the park. Sam and Lewis stand on the opposite side of the road to Jack LEWIS: See you guys later Lewis waves at the two and walks off down the pavement SAM: Yeah see ya guys soon, don’t go missing The three laugh and walk their separate ways home each waving as they turn back to say goodbye again. Scene 10: INT. we arrive at Jacks front door as he places his hand on the doorknob and opens the door entering his home. He does his seen before routine of very carefully taking his shoes off and placing them perfectly by the wall and very neatly hanging his coat up on the back of his door. He heads over to his washing machine and takes out his washed clothes and cautiously places them on a drying rack whilst removing any noticeable creases he sees. He then goes to his living room towards his chair and turns on his side table lamp slumping down onto the cushion and again placing his battered pencil and note pad down beside it. He switches the TV on - Evening (for this part on the TV I don’t want the screen to play anything to the audience, just a blue light as jack watches what we cannot see, whilst the dialogue will still be detectable). NEWS REPORTER: Good evening ladies and gentlemen this is LFZ news coming to you with an update on the recent top news report. The victims of last weeks missing reports have been found dead in black head industrial green, all three have been confirmed as murders as police describe the bodies as being mutilated by what seems to be most likely that of a blade. More have been reported
  • 9. 9 missing in this area and the case is being dealt with caution and speed by local authorities. This is a great tragedy, one that rivals any before in this town and we urge residence to be careful around the local area at this time of horror. Jack takes the remote and changes the channel to standard television and leans back in his chair watching with no expression. JACK: See, all it gives is grief and panic. No one can smile knowing the realities of what’s happening around the world, so why show it. Scene 11: INT. We see Jack getting up from his bed and starting to put clothes on. He heads downstairs and makes himself some cereal, he then walks to his dining room table placing the bowl of food gently down onto it. He sits and eats staring off into the distance again with no expression to his face. He puts the spoon down and carries on looking into nothingness. JACK: I have to keep Sam and Lewis safe from this upset. I would hate to not see them smile. Scene 12: INT. Jack gets up from the table emptying what remains into the bin, he then rinses the bowl, dries it and places it back very neatly with the others. He walks to his front door putting on his shoes in his normal manner and leaves. - Moring Scene 13: EXT. He exits his gate and walks off down the road. Scene 14: EXT. The same shot continues but it suddenly changes to Sunset/evening time (with a sound that works with the change). Jack re-enters his gate and walks up to his front door, he opens the door and enters after a small pause. When he gets in, he takes his shoes off but this time not to his normal routine, he strips down to his pants in the hallway, scrunches them into a ball and heads to the washing machine. In quick succession he puts the clothes in, closes the door, puts powder in and turns it on. He
  • 10. 10 leaves the washing machine, but we stay fixated onto it watching it go around. With no pauses Jack heads straight to bed, he turns his light out and falls asleep. – Evening Scene 15: INT. Jack is sat in his chair with his notepad open on his lap and pencil in his hand, he’s watching TV (the screen is just blue again for us). – Morning NEWS REPOTER: We have an upsetting update on the recent tragedies that have been occurring within the local village. Two more bodies have been found dead with similar wounds to the rest that have been found, the two identified were the teenage boys Sam Locksmith and Lewis Edmunds. As the names are announced we see over Jack’s shoulder, in his notepad he again is crossing something out but this time we can see. We see a list of names of those who have been either found dead or said to be missing, however this time he is crossing the names Sam and Lewis. Jack closes the note pad and places it back onto the table and leans over to place his pencil next to it. He falls back into the chair and faces towards the ceiling, with a slight grin on his face. JACK: Smiling is great, you can fool others to think your happy when you’re not, you can make others feel better with it and you can hide the darkest of secrets and desires behind it. Although smiling can’t always protect the people you know from those secrets and desires…I guess it’s time to smile somewhere else. THE END
