What is Inclusion?
• What does it mean to be inclusive or to have inclusion?
• Is the practice of fully bringing value to the diverse backgrounds,
characteristics and skills inherent in everyone person with the
organizations.
Diversity and Inclusion at OCTC
• Through the implementation of a comprehensive diversity
plan, we seek to provide a campus environment that
promotes and celebrates multiculturalism and provides
members of the campus community with the opportunity
to contribute and participate in the enrichment of the
multicultural experience on the OCTC campus.
Exercise
• Look at the picture pictures and think about your first
impression of the photo you see. Is it positive? Negative
or neutral?

the feelings of another by imagining his or her
perspective (not by assuming the person’s
position).
• Intercultural experience: An interaction with
an individual or groups of people whose
culture is different from yours.

• Intercultural/cultural differences: The
differences in rules, behaviors, communication,
and biases, based on cultural values that are
different from one's own culture.
• Worldview: The cognitive and affective lens
through which people construe their experiences
and make sense of the world around them.

• Suspend judgment in initial interactions with
culturally different others, postponing an
assessment or evaluation (positive or
negative) of interactions with people
culturally different from one self.
• Disconnect yourself from the process of
automatic judgment and take time to reflect
on possible multiple meanings.
