• Science – Scott Foresman
My job is to…
First graders will be taught using direct instruction
with a lot of opportunities to practice with
partners and independently.
GRADING POLICY
Reading, Mathematics, Writing, and Grammar are
graded using the following scale:
5 = Advanced/ Exceeds Standards
4 = Proficient/Meets Standards
3 = Basic/Approaching Standard
2 = Below Basic/Not Meeting Standard
1 = Far Below Basic/Not Meeting Standard
Effort grades will be assigned to all other subjects.
HOMEWORK Students homework is practice of what they have
been taught in class and includes:
* Sight word list
*Spelling words
*Math
*10 - 20 minutes of reading nightly
No more than 45 minutes daily! Homework should be
in a quiet place with limited distractions and
access to a parent for help.
Students will receive their homework packets on
Friday and it is due on the following Friday. They
may need help with reading directions. Please
check your child’s work before they turn it in.
Remember! Students need to turn in their
homework. This is part of being “All Clear” which
qualifies them for Fun Friday.
Conference Dates
• Fall conferences for all – October
24, 25, 27 and 28
• Spring conferences for “at risk”
students – March 20, 21 and 22
• Dismissal is 1:30 during conferences
SNACKS
• Snacks may be eaten during the
morning recess.
• Healthy snacks and water bottles are
encouraged.
• Please put your child’s name on the
snack daily.
BIRTHDAYS
• If you would like to celebrate your
child’s birthday with the class please
let me know a few days ahead of
time.
• It is school policy to limit the
celebration to the end of the school
day.
Attendance
• Roosevelt’s attendance expectation is
3 or fewer absences for the entire
school year. Please call the office at
276-5257 to report any absences.
Communication
We value communication with families.
• Weekly feed back via the homework folder
Here are a few ways to keep the lines of communication going:
• E-mail addresses are:
• swhitehead@centralusd.k12.ca.us
• sawtrey@centralusd.k12.ca.us
• ggarcia@centralusd.k12.ca.us
• Call the school at 559-276-5257
• Have your child deliver a note/letter
• Homework folder
• Stop by the classroom - you are always welcome
SUPPLIES
• Classroom supplies are always needed.
• Items such as Kleenex, pencils, copy paper and,
dry erase markers, hand sanitizer, etc. are
greatly appreciated!
• Please have your child keep personal school items
and toys at home.
First Grade Musts
Please label lunchboxes, backpacks and jackets.
Make sure your child can tie their own shoes.
No school boxes, please.
Class Rules & Consequences
Rules
• The children are taught the 3 Be’s – Be Respectful,
Be Responsible and Be Safe
• Use of clip chart – all children
start the day on green
Consequences for Poor Choices:
• Step 1 – Think about it
• Step 2 – Teacher’s Choice –
Loss of a recess, Apology letter
• Step 3 – Parent Contact
FIELD TRIPS
• Due to the high cost of
transportation for field trips, first
grade will not be leaving school for
field trips. Instead, we will invite
education experts to bring the field
trip to Roosevelt’s campus!
PARENT HELPERS
• Parent helpers are an important part
of our classroom. If you can help,
please let me know which day and
time you are available.
• Sign up sheet is on the back table.
