The Scarlet Pimpernel
The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy is an adventurous novel about Sir Percy
Blakeney, a wealthy Englishman who disguised himself under the false pretence of The Scarlet
Pimpernel, a brave and clever man who used preposterous disguises to free innocent French
aristocrats that had been convicted and were waiting to be put to death under the wrath of Madame
Guillotine. Sir Blakeney was married to Marguerite St. Just, known to be the most beautiful and
smartest women in Europe, but in France she was considered a traitor for revealing the Marquis de
St. Cyr and his whole family to the bloody guillotine to help her brother Armand get revenge for
almost being killed for loving the daughter of an aristocrat. This act of hers disgusted ... Show more

She believed that there was more to him than what he showed everyone, but he wouldn't open up to
her and reveal himself as the intelligent Scarlet Pimpernel that lived inside of him. The time period
of The Scarlet Pimpernel was during the French Revolution, around 1792. This was a key factor in
the novel, developing the story significantly. The "Scarlet Pimpernel," the alibi used by Sir Percy
Blakeney, and his league saved innocent French aristocrats from their terrible fates of death by
guillotine during the French Revolution, a violent revolt of the peasants against the aristocrats. This
ties into the course content because it shows a different side of the French Revolution. As with A
Tale of Two Cities, it shows perspective from only one of the sides of the French Revolution, but
The Scarlet Pimpernel shows the aristocratic pain and suffering, and the bravery of a man and his
league to save innocent lives. It further demonstrates the hurt inflicted to all the citizens of France
during the French Revolution, and the bloodthirsty others who relished the daily guillotine death
rolls and despised all aristocrats. Sir Blakeney especially tried to save families, mostly women and
children if the men couldn't be saved. This book left the reader wondering what happened next with
Percy and Marguerite, and if their marriage was as happy as it had once been. Overall, The Scarlet
Pimpernel was an excellent portrayal of the pain of the French

Architecture, Engineering, And Golf Course Design
In 1574, the home of golf opened becoming the most iconic golf course known well by golfers, the
home of golf, St. Andrews. The evolution of the game has been advanced and completely renewed
from where the game started to present day. This evolution can be considered partly due to the role
architecture has influenced golf course design. So what is the difference between architecture,
engineering, and golf course design? The classic definition of engineering is the application of a
system to a specific situation. In golf architecture, this would be the application of the game of golf,
with all its complexities and varying appeals, to each individual piece of land (Doak). So what
makes a golf course truly incredible? The answer is quite simple the imagination and creativity of
one's mind: a golf course architect.
The mindset of building golf courses has changed due to the fact of the rapidly evolving education
system. If one wants to become a golf course architect before the 1970's he/she didn't have receive
any college course work to be an architect. Many older golf course architects are former PGA
professionals, retired professional's golfers, or greenkeepers. Between the 1970's and 2000, most
golf course architects went to school for four years to get their bachelor's degree in Landscape
Architecture. Also most retired PGA golfers have started to create their own masterpieces.
However since there are so many different parts of golf course architecture there are multiple

St. Andrews And The Royal And Ancient Golf Course
The next day left the hotel and drove about 15 miles to St. Andrews and The Royal and Ancient golf
course. Compared to the all the other places where we stayed on the trip, the hotel where we stayed
just outside of St. Andrews could at best be described as so–so. It was sort of like an older motel in
the USA, but it was clean and reasonably comfortable and the dinner that night and breakfast the
next morning were good. Well, I should preface the latter comment and say I tried the Scottish
traditional breakfast of "haggis", and I could not swallow the first bite. No one told me it was made
primarily with lamb, and I will not eat lamb under any circumstances.
After breakfast, we headed out to St. Andrews and the Royal and Ancient Club – the Mecca of golf.
When we arrived at the clubhouse, we found out they were having a board meeting that day and we
would not be able to play on the "Old" course, but we could go to the "New" course and not have
any problem getting on at that course. The first thing we had to do was rent some clubs because
neither brought clubs on the trip. So, we went to a small shop not far from the course and rented
some clubs. Playing golf in Scotland is a little different from playing golf in America. The
noticeable differences are the height of the rough and the depth of the sand bunkers. The rough is
almost knee high and sand traps and bunkers are about 6 or 7 feet deep and reinforced with a brick
retaining wall. Well, we got to the club, the

Hippocrates Research Paper
The Father of Medicine
Hippocrates became the "father of medicine" when he transformed the path of Greek medicine. He
showed his beliefs on how to fight infections, and the correct way to practice medicine. Andrew
Fleming also transformed medicine by discovering an antibiotic, penicillin. Formerly there were no
other studies that showed someone else successively produced penicillin. Without Hippocrates
previously sharing his knowledge of all diseases, Fleming would not have gotten so far that easily.
Also, in the event that Fleming would have not stopped and seen the mold on his dirty dish, he
would have missed his chance for discovery. Hippocrates single handedly transformed medicine
forever. Andrew is equally as important, but without Hippocrates ... Show more content on

Hippocrates taught it was important to keep a record of the patient's conditions and their symptoms.
His name is associated with the Hippocratic Oath; 70 works ascribed to him in the Hippocratic
Collection; six of them he actually wrote himself. The Hippocratic Oath is a document on medical
practice, ethics, and morals; the most famous document of the Hippocratic Corpus. He collected
data, and conducted experiments to show disease was a natural process of the body. Hippocrates,
countering the Cnidian School, believed the human body functioned as one unified organism, and
must be treated in health and diseases as a whole. As his main unifying theory for the holistic
understanding of the human organisms and how they function in health and disease, Hippocrates
used the Four Humors. He was a great believer in dietary measures in the treatment of diseases.
Prognostic, Coan Prognosis, and Aphorisms– advanced and the then– revolutionary idea that, by
observing cases, a physician can predict a course of disease. Hippocrates life was a constant and
enduring source of inspiration for doctors and healers throughout the years. Alexander's
contributions were minor and major all in one. Andrew established that antiseptic agent (Boric Acid
& Hydrogen Peroxide) used to treat wounds and prevent infection were actually killing more of the
white blood cells, or soldiers, then the infections were. Later on, he

The Night Of Search Of Human Blood

Essay #2 If you were to ask people 10 years ago what came to mind when they thought about
vampires, you would probably get answers that described frightening creatures that lurk in the night
in search of human blood. These perceptions are usually brought on from one of the most famous
vampire stories ever written; Dracula. Bram Stoker's Dracula tells the story of Count Dracula and
his bloodthirsty journey from his castle in Transylvania to the shores of London. Where he searches
for blood from both men and women, while his enemies seek to destroy him and rid the world of his
evil. In more recent years the tables have turned due to the widespread popularity of the Twilight
series novels as well as the film adaptions. The Twilight series originally written by Stephanie
Meyer, recounts the love story of Isabella Swan a human teenager who risks it all when she falls for
Edward Cullen a vampire forever frozen at the age of 17. Due to its popularity, lots of people
visualize the main vampire in the series, Edward Cullen, when they think of the undead. With his
devilishly handsome features, bad boy allure, and ability to make all the girls of Forks high school
swoon, Edward Cullen and his family of "vegetarian vampires" are redefining the modern view of
vampires. One of the most prominent things that sets the two vampires apart is the way they are
perceived by other characters in their respective mediums. We

Lady Diana was always close to her younger brother, Charles. Diana loved her family because her
parents always wanted her to be safe and happy and have a good life. Diana always had nannies

Why The Golf Industry Helps Increase Participation Essay
Just a decade ago, it looked like the golf industry had the world at its feet. Interest in the game was
surging, and consumers snapped up equipment and booked tee times. These days, though, the sport
is caught in an extreme decline. Golf is losing more players than it 's gaining, as 4.1 million people
left the sport outpacing the 3.7 million who picked it up last year. With an overall decline in the
number of players, that 's causing a ripple effect in the golfing world: Sales of clubs and other
equipment are plunging, while some courses are pulling up their tees and calling it a day. This Case
Study will look into the reasons why the Golf Industry declined and how the Golf Industry is
working to increase participation.
I. Golf A. History
Almost all modern sports have origins in earlier games, as far back as thousands of years golf is no
different. Most modern games then eventually developed into a more recognizable version in the last
200 years or so. Golf differs from its sporting counterparts. In its early days, Scottish Kings – James
II and James IV – actually outlawed the game, believing the popularity of the sport conflicted with
military training. However, King James IV himself became enamored with the sport by the 1500s,
and in the early 1500s, in a short peace with England, the game became popular there as well,
though when the two countries were back at war with each other, golf receded in England again.
When James VI of Scotland took the

their fingers at not only ISIS, but all Muslims as well. According to Andrew Roth in an article

pretty much the one many Russians expected it to be: a young man with a long, thick beard, wearing

Even today, this method is still used, especially when it relates to racial profiling in the police force.
Many examples of this have happened throughout the latter half of the twentieth century and much
of the twenty–first century. Edmund Andrews from the news website of Stanford University wrote
in an article that, "By analyzing data from 4.5 traffic stops in 100 North Carolina cities, Stanford
researchers have found that police in that state are more likely to search black and hispanic
motorists, using a lower threshold of suspicion, than when they stop white or Asian drivers. The
empirical study found that while blacks and hispanics are more likely to be searched, those more
numerous searches are less likely to uncover illegal drugs or weapons than searches of vehicles with
white or Asian drivers." Andrews further writes, "Police searched 5.4 percent of blacks and 4.1
percent of the Hispanics they pulled over, but only 3.1 percent of whites." What with these given
statistics, it's only understandable that this may lead to polarized opinions. One side may argue that
this is the result of such ethnic minorities as the aforementioned blacks and Hispanics presenting
themselves as morally nihilistic savages willing to kill anyone at a moment's notice. The national
Gang Center reported, "The most recent figures provided by law enforcement

Russian Orthodox Religion
The denomination that I have chosen to research is Russian Orthodox. The reason that I chose to
write on this religion is because I have been interested in learning about the Russian Orthodox
religion and all that it entails. The main points of this research paper is a quick history, some of their
beliefs, and how does their cross compare to the Roman Catholic cross.
The first point of Russian Orthodox is their history. The Russian Orthodox Church was founded in
988 AD, thus, being in existence for a little over one thousand years. According to tradition, St.

Marriage in the Orthodox Church is forever. It is not reduced to an exchange of vows or the
establishment of a legal contract between the bride and groom. In the Orthodox marriage ceremony,
the bride and groom offer their lives to Christ and be willing to die for Christ first then for each
other. The Church extends their mercy to divorcees, the Orthodox Church is grieved by the loss of
the marriage and the pain divorce causes. Marriage is understood as a sacrament in the Church. The
Church does not deal with divorce legal side of divorce. The Church will give with compassion and
the grace of god. After appropriate pastoral counsel, divorce may be allowed when reconciliation
have been tried and nothing else has worked. If people want a remarriage there are some service that
they have to go through for a second marriage includes prayers of repentance over the earlier
divorce, asking God's forgiveness and protection for the new union. A third marriage is generally not
granted. Clergy who are divorced may be removed at least for a short period of time from active
ministry, and are not permitted to remarry if they want to remain in the ministry. In the Catholic
Church they have the same idea about marriage but they have different idea about divorces.
Divorces in the Catholic Church are a little bit different: people can get an annulment. If they do get
the divorce in the Catholic Church people cannot receive Communion

Comparing the Love of Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night and...
No emotion has such universal meaning as love. It is an integral part of the human condition. Love
is the basis for by which all other emotions can be gauged. Friendship and even grief are steeped in
love. Love is so central to our lives that it is fitting and proper that it should be the topic of so much
discussion. Every culture and every writer has some commentary or evaluation of love. The New
Testament has its share of love commentary. The entire basis of the Christian tradition is God's love
for humanity. "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son." (John 3:6) Jesus preached a great

Among the multitudinous biblical references to love, the most comprehensive and decisive
assessment of true love comes in St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians. He begins by stating that
despite all of his faith and gifts from God, "if I have no love, I am nothing." (I Cor. 13:2) Clearly,
Paul recognizes the importance of love. He goes on to define love in very explicit terms, telling both
what love is and what it is not. Paul begins, "Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited
or proud; love is not ill–mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs." (I
Cor. 13:4–5) The Apostle continues with the declaration that "love is not happy with evil, but is
happy with the truth." (I Cor. 13:6) Recall here the biblical prohibition of cross–dressing (Deut.
22:5) and lying (Deut. 5:20) Disguise and deceit are far from the truth that makes love happy. The
exhortation continues:
Love never gives up; and its faith, hope and patience never fail. Love is eternal... when what is
perfect comes, what is partial will disappear... Meanwhile, these three remain: faith, hope and love;
and the greatest of these is love. (I Cor. 13:7–8, 10, 13)
Paul's letter provides a comprehensive basis

The Life Of The Beach
NOT for nothing did the Beach Boys produce all that wonderful music in the 1960s. If you have

inspired those great sounds. It is the state of the beautiful people. Everybody seems to be laidback

and I 've got to tell you that it is something you have to experience. There is very little rain in this
part of the world but it is the greenest state in America, with everybody who lives there into

most of the golf courses use either reconstituted water or water that has gone through a desalienation

rises from deep within a person's character. The true courage these two people had to stand up
against the odds, and to strive for what is right and necessary is astonishing. Joan of Arc and Sam
Houston had many similarities and differences defining their courage. Both led an army with

Joan of Arc grew up as a peasant but by the end of the war, she earned her family a striking coat of
arms signifying her ascent into nobility. She came from an unknown village and rose to greatness
when she was a mere teenager, and as an uneducated peasant. She had the heart of a warrior, not of a

shoulders. Sam Houston grew up very different. He grew up as a well–off child and his calling did

something no other man in his position could do. He stood up even though other people strongly

This brings us to the second issue to be outlined, that is Mr Hughes crimes. Aside from a charge of

On April 15, 1894 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a baby girl named Elizabeth Smith was born. Her

Elizabeth went by the nickname 'Bessie.' In 1904, Bessie's oldest brother, Clarence, left home and

The True Hero:
The Superior Character in Romeo and Juliet The play of Romeo and Juliet is different from William
Shakespeare's other tragedies in that there is not a clear distinction of individual heroes. The two
protagonists are more passive than active; both are naïve and lacking understanding. The hero is
often thought to be the romantic, yet often hysterical, Romeo. But Romeo's immoral background,
emotional outbursts, mishap murders, and foolish actions make him a poor candidate for a hero.
Juliet proves to be more innocent than Romeo because she possesses more rigorous moral ethics.
Juliet is also more successful in overcoming the obstacles that she is faced with throughout the play.

But she refuses to turn back; she won't forget about Romeo and embrace Paris in marriage as her

all that is needed in order to have her love, but because of his lack of experience in life, Romeo is
not at all faultless. Perhaps the most notable act that sabotaged his relationship with Juliet was his
slaying of Tybalt. However honorable and necessary it may have seemed to him at the time,
Romeo's rashness once again rears its ugly head after Mercutio foolishly brings about his own
demise. Of course, Romeo immediately regrets his impetuous actions after the grave mistake had

What Makes A Company Global?
1. If you were to take your company global, which 3 countries would be your first targets, and why?
What products fit with those countries' segments of customers?
If I was an owner of a company it would most likely be a company that is associated with the game
of golf. Golf is a sport that I love to play and I know a lot about the game. The first country that I
would pick to penetrate the market of sporting goods in would be Scotland. Scotland is known to be
the home of golf. Scotland has the most golf courses in the top 100 than any other country in the
world. This is where golf originated and the history has carried on through generations. The
popularity of the sport and the history of the game being from Scotland would make it almost ...

England's market is very similar to the one in the United States with young professionals taking over
the game, such as Rory McIlroy. Growing in popularity and so much history in the country makes
the market very valuable. England holds one of the oldest golf courses in the world known as St.
Andrew's Course or "The old course".
The products that would fit these countries and fit these market segments would be enhancement in
clubs and more stylish apparel. Tradition, golf has the stereotype of professional players wearing
slacks and collard shirts for every tournament. While in the official rules players must wear slacks
and collared shirts, nowhere in the rules does it state the color schemes that may be used. One player
that has pushed the limits with their apparel is Rickie Fowler. Rickie is known to wear bright orange
pants with an orange shirt to match his orange shoes and orange flat bill. The youth of the sport that
are falling in love with the game are leaning towards more vibrant apparel colors and like to get
away from the traditional white, black, and red. The advancement of technology will also make the
business need to constantly be researching golf equipment to enhance the ability to hit longer drives
and more accurate shots. The business will be very successful in these countries with providing
quality golf equipment and also having a more modern style in golf clothing products.

Andrew Jackson: A Man of Contradition Essay
Andrew Jackson has been described as a great hero of his time and a man who was atrocious and
would destroy the Union. Andrew Jackson accomplished a great number of things during his life but
some of his actions were quite questionable. Looking from the present to the past gives insight into
areas where the events can be examined more objectively. However, it is vital when examining past
events to keep in mind the mindsets of the past. People had a different point of view and a different
perspective than the current one. This must be kept in the forward part of the mind to understand the
actions of those in the past. This paper will serve as a guide into the life of Andrew Jackson, his
trials and tribulations, decisions and contradictions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The officer raised his sword and aimed for his face, Jackson blocked with an arm and would carry
that scar with him forever. After the war, Jackson began looking for his own way and jumped on the
westward expansion toward Kentucky and Tennessee. Jackson apprenticed under a lawyer and later
became a lawyer himself. While this might lead one to believe that he was becoming a calm man,
this just was not true. Andrew Jackson was a wild child, complete with duels and gambling. He
engaged in a duel with Charles Dickinson where he was shot but mortally wounded his opponent.
Jackson was not without a heart. He fell in love with a woman who was already married to another
man. Her name was Rachel Donelson. It is important to remember that women of this time, could
not just divorce their spouses as they had no rights or property. The two young lovers ran away for
six months and returned home and were married in the eyes of most. Except for her former spouse,
who went to the courts and sued her for divorce, the first in Kentucky history. Rachel was the love
of Andrew Jackson's life and she kept him centered. The next period of his life would involve more
war and Jackson would become "Old Hickory" to his men and the world. "His men could think of

the ability of incorporating mother nature into the round. No two holes are the same. Each course

played on the same style court or field. Many sports are beginning to be played inside, including
some professional football and soccer games. Golf is for the nature seeker, the architect, the
designer, and the creative person. Golf Courses are like paintings, they are works of art. Today, an

One of the most popular of these shows, I Love Lucy, continues to appeal to both young and old

The four co–stars had an innate ability to evoke laughter; behind the set a bulletin board listed the

Andrew Jackson's Unruly Rise to the Presidency
In what many have called the dirtiest presidential election ever, Andrew Jackson reigned supreme
over John Quincy Adams in the election of 1828. For the first time in a political campaign, the main
focus was to slander the reputation of the opponent. Issues seemed to be disregarded in favor of
personal attacks upon the individual. The days of standing for office and remaining silent towards
the American public before elections took place were over. The election of 1828 focused on insults,
name calling, and heckling between the candidates and their parties. The War of 1812 threatened to

had failed to determine President James Monroe's successor because the electoral ballots were split
among four candidates, none of whom had a majority. According to the Twelfth Amendment to the
Constitution, the House of Representatives was required to select the chief executive from among
the three men with the highest electoral count. In 1824 these three included the Senator from
Tennessee, Andrew Jackson, who had 99 electoral votes; the Secretary of State, John Quincy
Adams, with 84 electoral votes; and the Secretary of the Treasury, William H. Crawford, who
received 41 electoral votes. Henry Clay, who was the fourth candidate, was eliminated since this
total electoral count reached only 37 votes. Jackson also took a commanding 40,000 popular vote
lead over the second highest candidate, John Adams. According to the followers of Adams,
Jackson's candidacy was a terrible judgment in that an uneducated, untrained, uninformed, and
inexperienced Indian fighter would attempt to challenge governmentally established gentlemen for

Biography of Andrew Carnegie Essay
Biography of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was born into a poor working class family living in the town of Dunfermline,
Scotland, in 1835. His father operated a small hand looming business located in the family home.
The Carnegies was literate, well read, and active in the politics of the day. It was a time of
repression of the Scottish worker by the Government, the employers, and the culture. Rebellious in
thought as well as actively participating in protests was part of the Carnegie family life style. He
was exposed to all of Scotland's dramatic portrayal of Scottish Heroes. He learned the poetry and
songs that were filled with the heroics of the underdog and their fight for equality.

He had been offered free tickets which enabled him to become acquainted with Shakespeare's plays.
While other young men lives were filled with work, pleasure, and home, Andrew's life was filled
with work, school, drama, and reading. He took advantage of the chance to study in a private library
and then he encouraged other young men to join him. He said, "I knew nothing of the base and vile.
I had always been brought in contact with good people. This was the world in which I dwelt with
my companions, all of them refined young men, striving to improve themselves and become
respected citizens" (Carnegie 65). "I went to school at night and read history and classics on
weekends. Every step of the way–factory drudge, office boy, messenger, I pushed myself hard,
mastered my duties, maximized opportunities, and waited with self–assurance the arrival of the next
chance".
There are many theories on why this Scottish immigrant succeeded in the "land of opportunity". It
couldn't be based solely on the fact he spoke English and was literate. He was one of among
thousands of other Scottish immigrants who came to this country searching for economic
opportunity. Louis Hacker expounds on one theory on what drove him,
Because of his father's failure, because of his deep devotion to a mother . . . perhaps more because
of the unequal society from which he had come and which had squandered talent so stupidly,

History of Golf
There is general agreement that the Scots were the earliest of golf addicts but who actually invented
the game is open to debate. We know that golf has existed for at least 500 years because James II of
Scotland, in an Act of Parliament dated March 6, 1457, had golf and football banned because these
sports were interfering too much with archery practice sorely needed by the loyal defenders of the
Scottish realm! It has been suggested that bored shepherds tending flocks of sheep near St. Andrews
became adept at hitting rounded stones into rabbits holes with their wooden crooks. And so a legend
that persists to this day was born!

In 1848, a golfing clergyman from St. Andrews, the Reverend Adam Paterson, experimented with a
substance from India called gutta–percha. It had been sent to him as padding covering a gift and he
found that the material could be softened with heat and then molded into a hard ball. The gutty as it
was known was not an instant success as the smooth ball tended to duck in flight. Players soon
found that its performance improved at the end of a round when the ball received some nicks and
scratches. Therefore, newly molded balls were scored all over with a saddler 's hammer with such
good playing results that the demise of the feathery was certain.
The gutta–percha ball lasted for approximately 55 years until succeeded by the Haskell ball in 1903.
An American dentist, Dr. Coburn Haskell, ran some experiments by tightly wrapping a liquid filled
rubber core with strips of elastic then covering it with a gutta–percha casing. North American
golfers began to take the new ball seriously when Walter Travis, originally from Australia, won the
1901 United States Amateur Championship using the Haskell ball. When Alex Herd won the 1902
British Open Championship again using the Haskell ball, golfers everywhere dropped the gutty and
clamoured for the Haskell!
Modern balls have a more durable cover of balata or surlyn and various solid core balls with new
synthetics have become popular. As well, we have seen the art of club making go from the original
wooden clubs, to forged irons,

The Early History of Golf in the U.S. Essay
The game of golf is one of the oldest of today's modern sports. Its exact beginnings are not known;
however, some historians trace golf back to the Stone Age while others claim it originated from the
"idle antics of shepherd boys knocking small stones into holes in the ground with a crook while their
flocks grazed nearby" (Peper 1). Researched back to the time of the Roman Empire, it is also
believed the sports–oriented Romans played a forerunner of the game of golf called paganica. This
sport involved the use of a bent stick and a ball stuffed with wool played in the open countryside.

'Singing Sin: An Analysis Of Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool'

"Singing Sin: An Analysis of Gwendolyn Brooks' 'We Real Cool'"
In life, it is best to find beauty in the simple things. There is a time and a place to make situations
more complex, but it is generally easier to take a simpler, more direct approach to a task whether it
be repairing a car or writing a poem. The latter is certainly the case with, "We Real Cool," by
Gwendolyn Brooks. The poem, consisting only of two lines of introduction followed by eight lines
of couplets, seems so simple that it should most certainly have been overlooked. However, the
poem's popularity shows that quality, not quantity, sometimes wins the day. This is because of the
poem's unique construction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the lines are short, declarative sentences, and every line except for the first one is only three
short, one syllable words. These short lines are intentional but not based on mimicking any other
poet like T. S. Eliot or Ezra Pound. To quote Brooks, "When I start writing a poem, I don't think
about models or about what anybody else in the world has done." (Stavros). The poem is structured,
so to speak, in free verse, and it is unique in the way the lines interact. The "We" at the end of each
line is meant to be said softly, and the lines are written so the reader takes a pause after "we." At the
same time, the "we" acts as the subject of the next line as the poet uses enjambment to keep the
rhythm of the poem going. Both of these things create the sense of uncertainty Brooks was
attempting to convey in the poem. The rhyme scheme of the couplet lines in the poem, ignoring the
"we" is AABBCCDD. The poem is simple and repetitive, much like the repetitive sound of a pool
cue hitting a ball and pool balls hitting off of each other, and Brooks gives the impression that the
boys in the pool hall do the same thing every day, repeating the actions of playing pool and
attempting to look cool, continuously creating a false sense of importance that masks a deeper

Analysis Of Andrew Carnegie 's The Gospel Of Wealth
Old Money Spoils There are many dangers of leaving great sums of inheritance money to the
children of those who accumulated their own fortunes. Andrew Carnegie, a self–made philanthropist
millionaire who gave away $350 million and built 2,509 libraries before his death in 1919, sees this
as a great problem as well and writes about it in "The Gospel of Wealth;" along with how he
believes that the highest obligation of those who have amassed a great fortune is to return their
money to the societies where they made it (Jacobus 481–83). Some of the dangers of handing
fortunes directly down to kin instead of donating or investing it back into the community, include
generating spoiled children and an unproductive hereditary class whose extreme wealth exacerbates
the inequality of wealth throughout the nation. Consequently, leaving children hereditary fortunes
not only spoils them, but is also economically inefficient, politically troublesome, socially
destructive, environmentally caustic, and simply unethical.
Carnegie writes a great deal about how individual children are often spoiled and therefore harmed
by wealth. He states that one reason estates and wealth is left to children is so that "the vanity of the
parent may be gratified by the thought that his name and title are to descend to succeeding
generations unimpaired" (489). Doing so is injudicious because it is simply the egotism of that
parent which then leaves unearned and undeserved wealth and estate to their

There currently is a controversy about the use of the belly putter. By January 1st, 2016, the
USGA, (United States Golf Association) will put a ban on how the belly putter can and cannot be

evolved into something great and it would not be the way it is today without people in Scotland back
in the 15th¬century.
In 1457, James II put a ban on the game of golf. The game of golf in the mid fourteen hundreds was
completely different than what we think of it today. They played the game with a ball and a stick,
but hit the ball to short distances rather than longer ones. Back then, many people did archery for

ANDREW JACKSON: CONQUEROR OF FLORIDA

HIUS 221–B19
9 October 2017 ANDREW JACKSON: CONQUEROR OF FLORIDA
Introduction
America is one country that has been built through conquests and wars due to its rich geography and
lands which attracted many powerful nations like Britain and Spain. One of these conquests took
place in the nineteenth century where an American general took siege of Florida, a Spanish territory
by then. Andrew Jackson was the man whose mission was to seize Florida in the year 1818 after
agitations from the various attacks that were carried out by the Seminoles to the American people,
the latest being the Fort Scott attack on November 21, 1817. These events and the siege is tackled in

This made it difficult for the diplomatic strategies to succeed, and America had another strategy
which was to seize the Spanish territory. The government knew of only one person who was capable
of carrying out such attacks, and that was Andrew Jackson due to his victories over the British in the
Battle of New Orleans in 1812. He was a successful warrior who defeated both the British in
different places including Georgia and the present day Alabama and these earned him several
nicknames such as Old Hickory, sharp knife, and fearless Indian fighter. The general seemed to be
immortal as he lived his life with a bullet lodged in his chest from a close–range shooting. The bullet
was too deeply embedded to be removed surgically.
According to the narrator, the defeated Indians merged with other tribes to form what he refers to
like the Seminoles, and they vowed to continue fighting Jackson until he is defeated. President
Monroe gave Andrew Jackson a vague order, and it was so ambiguous that it left the general a
chance for his interpretation. What he came up with was an assault on Florida, and could justify
himself through the call of the president which stated, "You have to go down there, and when you
are there you may find that there are other objectives for you to accomplish for your country." The
president later refuted the claims that he ordered the siege of Florida and said he was misinterpreted.

man laughed and still had me he tried to run with me in a headlock! "You asked for it!" Justin
shouted as he threw the vase at the man and he ran. I was still trapped and punched him in the head.
He let go and I ran faster than I'd ever ran.

Kolf Research Paper
The Culture trait of Scotland is golf. "The term "kolf" came from the Dutch." (Cultural Diffusion –
Andrew Scottish Culture. n.d.) It was brought over to Scotland from the major trading that those two
countries did. Kolf was a sport with characteristics of golf and ice hockey played in the Netherlands.
It was played with a stick and a ball on frozen canals in the winter times. In this game, players took
turns using iron–headed clubs to strike a small ball toward a target, which was typically a stake or a
hole. During the winter, kolf was typically played on ice, though it took place on city streets and
courts for the rest of the year. Kolf was a short game and took as long as a game of putt putt. "When
the game was brought over to the east

The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith
In Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations, four laws were set out to keep a successful economy; "The
Freedom to try; The Freedoms to buy; The Freedom to sell; and The Freedom to fail"(5000 year
leap). Through this plan and minimal government interaction, the U.S in 1905 was the richest nation
in the world. Also, the Declaration of Independence concentrates on this point, "... with certain
unalienable rights, that AMONG the things are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Other
unalienable rights that weren't listed includes, "the right to make personal choices, the right to
choose a profession, the right to enjoy the fruits of one's labor, and the right to improve one's
position through barter and sale"(5000 year leap). The freedoms given to the people by the
Constitution and the Declaration of Independence influenced immigrants to come and enjoy the
fruits of their labor. Also, the freedom of religion, the right to provide nature's necessities, and the
joy of peace sealed the deal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In America, immigrants were given the freedom and liberty they so desperately craved. Benjamin
Franklin once said, "A Bible and a Newspaper in every house, a good school in every district–all
studied and appreciated as there Merritt–are the principal support of virtue, morality, and civil
liberty." According to Benjamin Franklin, the three keys to a good life are the freedom of
religion(Bible), freedom of free speech(Newspaper), and a Public Schools System(a good

History of Golf Essay
History of Golf
Imagine the sun bursting through the trees for the first time of the new day, the smell of freshly cut
grass still potent to your nose as you tee the ball up for a round of golf in the cool mist of a spring
morning. "That is what brings you back every time, the smell of the air, the coolness of the whether
and the beautiful surroundings that make every shot enjoyable." (Suess, PI) This is the game of golf
in its finest and most exquisite time to many people and many people it has touched in its long
history. Golf is a lifestyle and not just games to people that are avid in playing. The game of golf has
a history that is rich in technological advances and personal accomplishments, which through time
has shown to shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Scots state the case of organ because they are the home of St. Andrews, which was the first golf
coarse with eighteen holes. There are also stories of men from medieval times trading supplies that
could be used for golf between the shores of Holland and Scotland. This new game that people were
beginning to play in Scotland, seemed to take a hold of the people. At the time, the sport was open
to all people– no fees to pay, no starting times– just a short game of golf that would always be
followed by a trip to the local mead hall. Most golf played was on bets and times have not changed
on that fact. Men would go and bet that they could beat the man next to them on the links, which at
the time were only sandy, hilly pastures. It was because this game was at such a simple stage in its
history; it required skill and finesse that almost all people could do. So, to meet the demand of the
people, many courses were built along high bluffs on the eastern coastline in Scotland. It is here that
nature developed dunes, ridges, gullies and hollows that would challenge the best of golfers.
Through the years there have been many forms of golf clubs used to strike to object used as a ball.
Because of the increase in technology the tools of golf have been defined and redefined over and
over again. The very first types of clubs that were used were just regular sticks that a person would
find. These clubs were fashioned

The Tragic Death of Princess Diana

  • 1. The Scarlet Pimpernel The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy is an adventurous novel about Sir Percy Blakeney, a wealthy Englishman who disguised himself under the false pretence of The Scarlet Pimpernel, a brave and clever man who used preposterous disguises to free innocent French aristocrats that had been convicted and were waiting to be put to death under the wrath of Madame Guillotine. Sir Blakeney was married to Marguerite St. Just, known to be the most beautiful and smartest women in Europe, but in France she was considered a traitor for revealing the Marquis de St. Cyr and his whole family to the bloody guillotine to help her brother Armand get revenge for almost being killed for loving the daughter of an aristocrat. This act of hers disgusted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She believed that there was more to him than what he showed everyone, but he wouldn't open up to her and reveal himself as the intelligent Scarlet Pimpernel that lived inside of him. The time period of The Scarlet Pimpernel was during the French Revolution, around 1792. This was a key factor in the novel, developing the story significantly. The "Scarlet Pimpernel," the alibi used by Sir Percy Blakeney, and his league saved innocent French aristocrats from their terrible fates of death by guillotine during the French Revolution, a violent revolt of the peasants against the aristocrats. This ties into the course content because it shows a different side of the French Revolution. As with A Tale of Two Cities, it shows perspective from only one of the sides of the French Revolution, but The Scarlet Pimpernel shows the aristocratic pain and suffering, and the bravery of a man and his league to save innocent lives. It further demonstrates the hurt inflicted to all the citizens of France during the French Revolution, and the bloodthirsty others who relished the daily guillotine death rolls and despised all aristocrats. Sir Blakeney especially tried to save families, mostly women and children if the men couldn't be saved. This book left the reader wondering what happened next with Percy and Marguerite, and if their marriage was as happy as it had once been. Overall, The Scarlet Pimpernel was an excellent portrayal of the pain of the French ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Architecture, Engineering, And Golf Course Design In 1574, the home of golf opened becoming the most iconic golf course known well by golfers, the home of golf, St. Andrews. The evolution of the game has been advanced and completely renewed from where the game started to present day. This evolution can be considered partly due to the role architecture has influenced golf course design. So what is the difference between architecture, engineering, and golf course design? The classic definition of engineering is the application of a system to a specific situation. In golf architecture, this would be the application of the game of golf, with all its complexities and varying appeals, to each individual piece of land (Doak). So what makes a golf course truly incredible? The answer is quite simple the imagination and creativity of one's mind: a golf course architect. The mindset of building golf courses has changed due to the fact of the rapidly evolving education system. If one wants to become a golf course architect before the 1970's he/she didn't have receive any college course work to be an architect. Many older golf course architects are former PGA professionals, retired professional's golfers, or greenkeepers. Between the 1970's and 2000, most golf course architects went to school for four years to get their bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture. Also most retired PGA golfers have started to create their own masterpieces. However since there are so many different parts of golf course architecture there are multiple ... • 5. St. Andrews And The Royal And Ancient Golf Course The next day left the hotel and drove about 15 miles to St. Andrews and The Royal and Ancient golf course. Compared to the all the other places where we stayed on the trip, the hotel where we stayed just outside of St. Andrews could at best be described as so–so. It was sort of like an older motel in the USA, but it was clean and reasonably comfortable and the dinner that night and breakfast the next morning were good. Well, I should preface the latter comment and say I tried the Scottish traditional breakfast of "haggis", and I could not swallow the first bite. No one told me it was made primarily with lamb, and I will not eat lamb under any circumstances. After breakfast, we headed out to St. Andrews and the Royal and Ancient Club – the Mecca of golf. When we arrived at the clubhouse, we found out they were having a board meeting that day and we would not be able to play on the "Old" course, but we could go to the "New" course and not have any problem getting on at that course. The first thing we had to do was rent some clubs because neither brought clubs on the trip. So, we went to a small shop not far from the course and rented some clubs. Playing golf in Scotland is a little different from playing golf in America. The noticeable differences are the height of the rough and the depth of the sand bunkers. He showed his beliefs on how to fight infections, and the correct way to practice medicine. Andrew Fleming also transformed medicine by discovering an antibiotic, penicillin. Formerly there were no other studies that showed someone else successively produced penicillin. Without Hippocrates previously sharing his knowledge of all diseases, Fleming would not have gotten so far that easily. Also, in the event that Fleming would have not stopped and seen the mold on his dirty dish, he would have missed his chance for discovery. Hippocrates single handedly transformed medicine forever. His name is associated with the Hippocratic Oath; 70 works ascribed to him in the Hippocratic Collection; six of them he actually wrote himself. The Hippocratic Oath is a document on medical practice, ethics, and morals; the most famous document of the Hippocratic Corpus. He collected data, and conducted experiments to show disease was a natural process of the body. Hippocrates, countering the Cnidian School, believed the human body functioned as one unified organism, and must be treated in health and diseases as a whole. As his main unifying theory for the holistic understanding of the human organisms and how they function in health and disease, Hippocrates used the Four Humors. • 9. The Night Of Search Of Human Blood Kia Frazier–Humphrey Professor Livanis English 17 November 11th 2016 Essay #2 If you were to ask people 10 years ago what came to mind when they thought about vampires, you would probably get answers that described frightening creatures that lurk in the night in search of human blood. These perceptions are usually brought on from one of the most famous vampire stories ever written; Dracula. Bram Stoker's Dracula tells the story of Count Dracula and his bloodthirsty journey from his castle in Transylvania to the shores of London. Where he searches for blood from both men and women, while his enemies seek to destroy him and rid the world of his evil. In more recent years the tables have turned due to the widespread popularity of the Twilight series novels as well as the film adaptions. The Twilight series originally written by Stephanie Meyer, recounts the love story of Isabella Swan a human teenager who risks it all when she falls for Edward Cullen a vampire forever frozen at the age of 17. Due to its popularity, lots of people visualize the main vampire in the series, Edward Cullen, when they think of the undead. With his devilishly handsome features, bad boy allure, and ability to make all the girls of Forks high school swoon, Edward Cullen and his family of "vegetarian vampires" are redefining the modern view of vampires. One of the most prominent things that sets the two vampires apart is the way they are perceived by other characters in their respective mediums. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Why The Golf Industry Helps Increase Participation Essay Just a decade ago, it looked like the golf industry had the world at its feet. Interest in the game was surging, and consumers snapped up equipment and booked tee times. These days, though, the sport is caught in an extreme decline. Golf is losing more players than it 's gaining, as 4.1 million people left the sport outpacing the 3.7 million who picked it up last year. With an overall decline in the number of players, that 's causing a ripple effect in the golfing world: Sales of clubs and other equipment are plunging, while some courses are pulling up their tees and calling it a day. This Case Study will look into the reasons why the Golf Industry declined and how the Golf Industry is working to increase participation. I. Golf A. History Almost all modern sports have origins in earlier games, as far back as thousands of years golf is no different. Most modern games then eventually developed into a more recognizable version in the last 200 years or so. Golf differs from its sporting counterparts. In its early days, Scottish Kings – James II and James IV – actually outlawed the game, believing the popularity of the sport conflicted with military training. However, King James IV himself became enamored with the sport by the 1500s, and in the early 1500s, in a short peace with England, the game became popular there as well, though when the two countries were back at war with each other, golf receded in England again. The empirical study found that while blacks and hispanics are more likely to be searched, those more numerous searches are less likely to uncover illegal drugs or weapons than searches of vehicles with white or Asian drivers." Andrews further writes, "Police searched 5.4 percent of blacks and 4.1 percent of the Hispanics they pulled over, but only 3.1 percent of whites." What with these given statistics, it's only understandable that this may lead to polarized opinions. One side may argue that this is the result of such ethnic minorities as the aforementioned blacks and Hispanics presenting themselves as morally nihilistic savages willing to kill anyone at a moment's notice. He goes on to define love in very explicit terms, telling both what love is and what it is not. Paul begins, "Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill–mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs." (I Cor. 13:4–5) The Apostle continues with the declaration that "love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth." The first course I am going to talk about is a more modern golf course with a lot of edginess, Whistling Straits. When the course was first being erected, everyone knew that it was going to be something special because of the world renown designer undertaking the project, Pete Dye. Nonetheless there was skepticism about the potential of the golf course, considering they were going for a rugged and a sloping style course and it was being constructed from a low lying, pancake flat, ... The Show I Love Lucy Essay We are all here for a spell, get all the good laughs you can. –– Will Rogers Television's rise in popularity throughout the fifties saw the emergence of the situation comedy, a style that captivated audiences by presenting a story with a beginning, a middle, and a happy end. Andrew Jackson's Unruly Rise to the Presidency Essay Andrew Jackson's Unruly Rise to the Presidency In what many have called the dirtiest presidential election ever, Andrew Jackson reigned supreme over John Quincy Adams in the election of 1828. For the first time in a political campaign, the main focus was to slander the reputation of the opponent. Issues seemed to be disregarded in favor of personal attacks upon the individual. The days of standing for office and remaining silent towards the American public before elections took place were over. According to the Twelfth Amendment to the Constitution, the House of Representatives was required to select the chief executive from among the three men with the highest electoral count. In 1824 these three included the Senator from Tennessee, Andrew Jackson, who had 99 electoral votes; the Secretary of State, John Quincy Adams, with 84 electoral votes; and the Secretary of the Treasury, William H. Jackson also took a commanding 40,000 popular vote lead over the second highest candidate, John Adams. We know that golf has existed for at least 500 years because James II of Scotland, in an Act of Parliament dated March 6, 1457, had golf and football banned because these sports were interfering too much with archery practice sorely needed by the loyal defenders of the Scottish realm! It has been suggested that bored shepherds tending flocks of sheep near St. Andrews became adept at hitting rounded stones into rabbits holes with their wooden crooks. And so a legend that persists to this day was born! Various forms of games resembling golf were played as early as the fourteenth century by sportsmen in Holland, ... It had been sent to him as padding covering a gift and he found that the material could be softened with heat and then molded into a hard ball. The gutty as it was known was not an instant success as the smooth ball tended to duck in flight. Players soon found that its performance improved at the end of a round when the ball received some nicks and scratches. Therefore, newly molded balls were scored all over with a saddler 's hammer with such good playing results that the demise of the feathery was certain. The gutta–percha ball lasted for approximately 55 years until succeeded by the Haskell ball in 1903. An American dentist, Dr. Coburn Haskell, ran some experiments by tightly wrapping a liquid filled rubber core with strips of elastic then covering it with a gutta–percha casing. North American golfers began to take the new ball seriously when Walter Travis, originally from Australia, won the 1901 United States Amateur Championship using the Haskell ball. When Alex Herd won the 1902 British Open Championship again using the Haskell ball, golfers everywhere dropped the gutty and clamoured for the Haskell! 'Singing Sin: An Analysis Of Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool' Nathan Turley Critical Reading Dr. White 4 December 2015 "Singing Sin: An Analysis of Gwendolyn Brooks' 'We Real Cool'" In life, it is best to find beauty in the simple things. There is a time and a place to make situations more complex, but it is generally easier to take a simpler, more direct approach to a task whether it be repairing a car or writing a poem. The latter is certainly the case with, "We Real Cool," by Gwendolyn Brooks. The poem, consisting only of two lines of introduction followed by eight lines of couplets, seems so simple that it should most certainly have been overlooked. However, the poem's popularity shows that quality, not quantity, sometimes wins the day. This is because of the poem's unique construction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the lines are short, declarative sentences, and every line except for the first one is only three short, one syllable words. These short lines are intentional but not based on mimicking any other poet like T. S. Eliot or Ezra Pound. To quote Brooks, "When I start writing a poem, I don't think about models or about what anybody else in the world has done." (Stavros). The poem is structured, so to speak, in free verse, and it is unique in the way the lines interact. The "We" at the end of each line is meant to be said softly, and the lines are written so the reader takes a pause after "we." At the same time, the "we" acts as the subject of the next line as the poet uses enjambment to keep the rhythm of the poem going. Both of these things create the sense of uncertainty Brooks was attempting to convey in the poem. The rhyme scheme of the couplet lines in the poem, ignoring the "we" is AABBCCDD. The poem is simple and repetitive, much like the repetitive sound of a pool cue hitting a ball and pool balls hitting off of each other, and Brooks gives the impression that the boys in the pool hall do the same thing every day, repeating the actions of playing pool and attempting to look cool, continuously creating a false sense of importance that masks a deeper ... • 64. Analysis Of Andrew Carnegie 's The Gospel Of Wealth Old Money Spoils There are many dangers of leaving great sums of inheritance money to the children of those who accumulated their own fortunes. Andrew Carnegie, a self–made philanthropist millionaire who gave away $350 million and built 2,509 libraries before his death in 1919, sees this as a great problem as well and writes about it in "The Gospel of Wealth;" along with how he believes that the highest obligation of those who have amassed a great fortune is to return their money to the societies where they made it (Jacobus 481–83). Some of the dangers of handing fortunes directly down to kin instead of donating or investing it back into the community, include generating spoiled children and an unproductive hereditary class whose extreme wealth exacerbates the inequality of wealth throughout the nation. Consequently, leaving children hereditary fortunes not only spoils them, but is also economically inefficient, politically troublesome, socially destructive, environmentally caustic, and simply unethical. Carnegie writes a great deal about how individual children are often spoiled and therefore harmed by wealth. He states that one reason estates and wealth is left to children is so that "the vanity of the parent may be gratified by the thought that his name and title are to descend to succeeding generations unimpaired" (489). Doing so is injudicious because it is simply the egotism of that parent which then leaves unearned and undeserved wealth and estate to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of these conquests took place in the nineteenth century where an American general took siege of Florida, a Spanish territory by then. Andrew Jackson was the man whose mission was to seize Florida in the year 1818 after agitations from the various attacks that were carried out by the Seminoles to the American people, the latest being the Fort Scott attack on November 21, 1817. This made it difficult for the diplomatic strategies to succeed, and America had another strategy which was to seize the Spanish territory. The government knew of only one person who was capable of carrying out such attacks, and that was Andrew Jackson due to his victories over the British in the Battle of New Orleans in 1812. He was a successful warrior who defeated both the British in different places including Georgia and the present day Alabama and these earned him several nicknames such as Old Hickory, sharp knife, and fearless Indian fighter. The general seemed to be immortal as he lived his life with a bullet lodged in his chest from a close–range shooting. The bullet was too deeply embedded to be removed surgically. According to the narrator, the defeated Indians merged with other tribes to form what he refers to like the Seminoles, and they vowed to continue fighting Jackson until he is defeated. President Monroe gave Andrew Jackson a vague order, and it was so ambiguous that it left the general a chance for his interpretation. What he came up with was an assault on Florida, and could justify himself through the call of the president which stated, "You have to go down there, and when you are there you may find that there are other objectives for you to accomplish for your country."
