Turning Points In The Last Supper
Since the beginning of time, whether we practice religion or not, there seems to be a leader that the people in general follow or look up to bring
comfort in our existence to society. The Last Supper was created by an Italian artist by the name of Leonardo Da Vinci in the fifteenth century. It is
quite a distinctive piece and has a great deal of detail for it being a fresco. More than half of the world is familiar with The Last Supper. With
Christianity being a dominant religion throughout the world, the painting connects with the bible noting that some of the major turning points took
place during The Last Supper. It would be depicted as Jesus' final dinner with his disciples. Liberty Leading the People was created in 1830 by an artist

Hundreds of years apart and yet the two paintings have so much in common as well as their differences. No matter the date of the work the quality
and meaning will always stand the test of time. The Last Supper may not have had death painted, but the sorrow that the disciples told the story of
their leader coming in the near future. In the end victory would be in the death of Jesus as he was put here to die for man. Lady Liberty presents
death, defeat, glory, and accomplishment at the same time. Eugene Delacoix presented Liberty Leading the People it a dark way to show what had
to take place in order to get the victory. In the Last Supper Judas shows how hard it is to resist the temptation of overturning his Lord and Savior for
the bearings of silver and gold, while at the same time Lady Liberty brings temptation of murder to fight for what we believe is right. Two different
day in ages as well as two different cultural background shows the instilment of human nature and what we have used to progress as a

Examples Of The Eucharist New Covenant Of Non-Violence
"The Eucharist's New Covenant of Non–violence" Christian theology insists upon the notion of a non–violent communal bond. For most Christians,
this defining rite is communion or the Eucharist. Outside of Jesus, the Eucharist would have no Christian meaning. It is the bread and wine that gives
us such a beautiful opportunity to come before Him and feel his presence whenever we want. When our hearts are pure, we get to experience the most
perfect union with God through the sacrament of the Eucharist. The Last Supper was a gathering for Christ to fellowship with His disciples one last time
prior to His arrest and crucifixion. This final meal contains many significant principles, and continues to be an important part of Christian life
throughout the world. The Eucharist represents a covenant of non–violence. To participate in Christ's body in the Eucharist means, in part, to recognize
the nature of sin and atonement. This example of sacrifice is not about battling external enemies. The root of peacemaking is understanding that we
are all members of God's Kingdom and when one suffers, we all suffer together, and when one rejoices, we all rejoice. War divides up the world, like
friends and enemies. Christians who epitomize non–violence are accused of trying to impose it on sinful human beings. It is ironic that killing is
considered heroic, while refraining is not. Peacemaking requires a humble commitment to caring for others, such as feeding the hungry, giving to

Overlapping Stories of Osiris and Jesus Essay
This is a comparative essay of Osiris and Jesus. In this essay I will compare the two stories on 8 points that I found kind of overlap on one another.
It should be pointed out that the Egyptian myth came around more than 2000 years before Jesus was even said to be born. The first topic is the
Birth of the two Gods and the signs given as to when they came. When Osiris was born To Geb the Egyptian Earth God and Nut the Sky goddess a
voice came to Pamyles to spread the good word and Pamyles attended him for life. When Jesus was born in Jerusalem he was born of the Virgin Mary
and of the father Joseph. The night he was born a voice came down from heaven and a shepherd tending his flock heard it and went to see the child,

The Pharisee's plotted to get Jesus killed because of what he taught and how it affected the church controlled state. While Osiris did not have jealous
outsiders, the jealousy that would eventually kill him was within his own family, his brother Seth who wanted the crown and Isis his wife for his very
own. Both Jesus and Osiris had a "last supper or Feast". Osiris had one with his family when he returned from his travels. Seth and 72
coconspirators tricked him and locked him in a coffin and threw it into the Nile. Jesus had a last supper with his 12 disciples taking bread and
wine and giving Christians the tradition of communion. After the last supper Jesus went to the gardens to pray and was betrayed by Judas and
given to the Roman soldiers, like Osiris was betrayed by his brother Seth as Jesus's disciples were like his family. The next point is that both died of
wood. Jesus died on a wooden cross after he was beaten and tortured by the roman soldiers. Osiris died of wood also in his story his coffin floats down
the Nile until it got stuck on a great tree and was encased by the tree. The tree was then cut down by a used as a great pillar in a palace. The annual
flooding of the Nile is supposed to represent this story as the flood come from the tears after Osiris died much the same way Christians follow the
Easter Story every year. In Jesus's story after he died on the cross he was taken down and buried

Analysis Of The Art Piece Name Yo Mama 's Last Supper By Cox
In this essay I am going to conduct an "Australian Bushman" approach to analyze the art piece name Yo Mama's Last Supper by Cox. Later on in the
essay, I will include contextualization of the analysis.
This art piece portrays a darker colored woman in the middle with twelve men sitting at the table, six men on each side. She is not wearing any sort of
garments except for a simple white cloth around her spread out arms. All men are divided into three–men group based upon similar actions. The man
immediate right to the woman is the only man with paler skin color. On the table, there are feast of fruits, vegetables, bread, and drinks.
Now, I must conduct a conceptualization in this analysis. The combination of nakedness and white cloth that are worn around her arms could be to
symbolize the purity and holiness of female body, or, it could be a symbolism for the persisting sexism in the world. It highlights the fact that women
are only seen as a mere sex object from men in the world. This can be seen from the gaze and expression of other man at the table.
From the title of this art piece, it tells us that this woman is posing as Jesus Christ; she is spreading her arm out like Jesus depicted in the iconic
painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. Instead of Jesus being a man, Cox used herself, a woman, to represent Jesus. The fact that the Bible is based upon
Jesus and his twelve disciples, which all are male, tells us that there is a patriarchal and sexist sense embedded within the

The Meaning Of The Lord Supper
The meaning of the Lord's Supper, in the Greek term from the Old and New Testament. There will be biblical exegesis on the passages and the
research will show how the literary context reflects the discourses of the passages, through grammar and liturgical context, for instance, how other
scholars reviewed the books of the Lord Supper. The comparison and contrast of the Lords Supper throughout the synoptic gospels, such as Luke,
Matthew, Mark Acts and 1 Cor.15:33 The thesis will prove to you that the Lord's Supper and the Resurrection are connected toJesus Christ and the
believer for today's society through unity.
In the book Old Testament, according to Exodus 6:6–71.the Lord's Supper was the deliverance of Israel from Egypt. The New Testament explains, it is
through grace in the New Covenant for God's people through Jesus Christ blood redemptive and salvation we are unity. Unity what is unity: According

The New American Standard Bible
Scripture quoted in this paper is from the New American Standard Bible (NASB), as it appears in the Comparative Study Bible, for the purpose of
compliance with Bacone College's Christian Ministry Degree program.
The Lord's Supper
14 В¶ When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him.
15 And He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."
17 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves;
18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes."
19 And when He had taken some bread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another translation problem is the mention of the cup twice. As explained in the NIV Archaeological Study Bible, "The "cup" refers either to the first
of the four cups shared during the regular observance of the Passover meal or to the third cup." Stein explains the four cups in a Passover meal and
suggests that "[i]t may have been the third of these cups that Jesus used in the Last Supper" while referencing Luke 22:20. Although these are
explanations, they do not necessarily prove or disprove Jesus eating at a Passover meal.
A third translation problem is the word "bread". The word "bread" in this verse comes from the Greek word "artos", meaning "bread (as raised) or a
loaf" , which is not an unleavened bread. The obvious translation problem is the conflict between the Feast of Unleavened Bread and eating bread that
is raised. Although many Christians in this modern age might find great inspiration in connecting the Risen Christ with raised bread, the meaning of
the word only adds to the translation dilemma. The counter argument to raised bread being a symbol of the Risen Savior is found in the instructions
given to Moses, which state, the blood of God's sacrifice must not be mixed with leaven bread. That could apply literally to the Passover meal and
figuratively to Christ as the bread.
Fourth, was the Last Supper the Passover meal, a

Essay on The Doctrine of the Lord's Supper
The Doctrine of the Lord's Supper
Introduction
I think that no doctrine inside Christianity was as arguably and problematic as the doctrine of the Lord's Supper (Eucharistic). Not only that
century–old fighting's is going on around the text: "This is my body" (1.Cor.11:24) between Roman Catholics and Protestants, but there is
nonconformity regarding the question among Protestants themselves. The first notification of the Lord's Supper set a division among Christ's disciples,
as they were shocked when Christ told them about the suffering that He must go through, so they said: "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
(John 6,60). The cause of this fighting is based on a question of understanding the nature of Christ's presence in ... Show more content on

The church itself, which participates sacramentaly in making individuals into Christians, realizes its own being as church in the Eucharist."
To this statement I would add the words of professor Janos Pasztor: "The sacrament of Lord's Supper is not only an addition to the Church, but it is an
energy of the Church" that binds a humanity with the Kingdom of God that will come.
In order to understand the meaning of Lord's Supper when we talk about Eschatology we will talk about the Passover because Lord's Supper lies on
its grounds. We will see what was the goal in Christ's choosing the Passover to establish the Lord's Supper. First part of this paper will talk about
Passover in the Old Testament (its establishment, celebration and meaning) and in the New Testament. In the second part we will talk about the Lord's
Supper, its establishment, meaning, names and connection with the Kingdom of God. Since the relationship between Lord's Supper and Kingdom of
God is faintly investigated, it would require much more space then we are able to use in this paper, so because of the limited space we will concentrate
on the, in my opinion, most important elements.
The Passover in the Old Testament
The Passover is for the first time mentioned in the Bible in Exodus 12. In this chapter one event is described which is placed before the Israelis
coming out from the Egyptian bondage. In the Bible we read (Genesis 46) that Jacob on a call of his son Joseph came to Egypt and

Can Literature Spark Cultural Difference?
Can literature spark cultural difference? "A Little child with such a big heart that will be broken en crumbled everything falls apart". A literature
poem that is beautifuly and creatvly assembled using words. This poem has a deap meaning about out society and how we indivaduals are so
influnced by it. Eventually, society corruptes our purity and made us crumble until everything falled apart. In this world, literature is used and seen in
many different forms, and through this forms we see profound effects in their time and even after that. We can see how literature influences modern
society, and how most of the ideas were spread through some kind of literature form. We see the spark of cultural change through influential works of
literature, and these works take the forms of writings, movies, or songs. These forms go on to change the core of culture, so we can see a different world
every time. It causes us to be very manipulated by the message it spreads out. Literature does spark cultural change using influential works like the Bible
, or the song 'Fireworks' by Katy perry and even poems like 'Still I Rise' by Maya Angelou. These kinds of influntial works tend to spark cultural
change throught inspiration and knowledge.
One of the ways literature sparks cultural change would be, by the inspirational works that have formed into songs and poems. A poem, for example,
tends to give people the strength they need to overcome a problem, reach a goal, or let go of their

Count's Last Supper
The Count's Last Supper: La Gran Granja
Throughout the film, the Count seeks to be recognized as a kind of Christ figure, identifying with the slaves as his loyal disciples. In this way, he
deliberately chooses to overlook the relationship of labour with his slaves, created by the same economic necessity he claims to abhor. He cloaks the
slaves in the assumption of their apostleship but addresses them as slaves and grants one of them his "freedom", seemingly ignoring their awareness of
the difference between instrumental and absolute freedom. He justifies their enslavement on the basis of their own "animal natures", and seeks to
convince himself that their labour is an instinctual, almost animal labour. But the slaves are aware, to varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It draws the viewer beyond questions of individuality and identity formation, reflecting upon the political consciousness for the conditions of work
in Cuba in the 1970s. These are symbolized by the relationship between slave and master, ideology and its instrumentalization respectively. The
interventions to Christ's Last Supper shape The Last Supper into a revisionist Marxist text that reflects upon the ills of the culture of the sugar
plantations. Alea's desire is to make a film on Cuba's slave history in order to know and understand the past: '[...] we needed (and are going to
continue to need for some time) to know how we were, how we lived, and how we fought in order to recover the broken temporal thread of our
traditions, and to enrich it in this new historical epoch' (Alea cited in Mraz 1993). In this context, the film moves beyond the Marxist critique of slavery,
as it was constructed in Fraginales's original text on which the film was based, offering instead a "parallel project of national awareness and
recognition for the history and culture of Afro–Cubans, a project with a long and venerable history" (Schroeder 2002, 78). Alea did not craft The Last
Supper as just a composite element of an incomplete historical jigsaw. The history is recuperated, aiming to foreground the inversions that take place
during the supper, which then serve as glyphs to read the inversions of socialism happening in Cuba at the time. After the success of the Revolution,
the Cuban government ensured the nationalization of commercial USA assets in Cuba, which resulted in the freezing of Cuba's financial assets in the
USA and the breaking up of diplomatic ties between them. The imposition of the trade embargo by the USA resulted in the increasing trading of Cuba
with its Soviet allies. The growth of this trade led to the ambitious target of La Gran Granja, ten million tons of sugar

The Last Supper
The Last Supper – Research Essay
The Last Supper is a religious scene in the Catholic bible, which tells the story of the last meal the night before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. An
important role in its religion, the Last Supper scene has been recreated by artists many times. These visual interpretations of the event generally show
Jesus, surrounded by his disciples. During the meal, Jesus breaks the bread and serves the wine accompanied with the command "Take this all of you
and eat it... this is my body... do this in remembrance of me". Three artists who have produced paintings of the Last Supper include Leonardo DaVinci,
Jacopo Tintoretto and Salvador Dali. Each of these artists interpreted the religious event and recreated it in terms ... Show more content on

In contrast to the physical reaction of the disciples, Jesus is calm with a peaceful equilibrium and a dignified strength. He sits with his palms upturned
to form a triangle with his arms and head, which again refers to the number three symbolising the Holy Trinity.
By choosing this part of the story; he also chooses to leave out the bread and the wine normally sitting on the table in visuals of the Last Supper.
Leonardo's version is also the first to have Judas sitting on the same side of the table as Jesus. Judas is identifiable by the symbols employed by
Leonardo, such as the money bag clutched tightly in Judas' hand and the difference in his gesture and facial expression to the other disciples. Although
this painting breaks conventions, the realism used by Leonardo helped the paintings function of conveying a "true" story to its audience to inspire them
to be more faithful.
Perceptions of this artwork will have changed over time, as today's audience is far less religious and would therefore be more likely to see 'The Last
Supper' as an aesthetic piece of artwork rather than a narrative of a biblical story or connection to God.
After the ride and fall of High Renaissance came the style known as Mannerism. This style involved developing artist individual style, artificial,

Assemblage Art And The Arts At Ohio State University
Assemblage art is the process of an artist creating a piece of work out of objects and materials rather than just paints and brushes. Assemblage art
interests me more because of the history of the materials before it was created into a work being displayed. The specific artist used other's scraps
and "trash" to assemble a piece of art greater than both people combined and the ending product comes out to be something a lot more significant
than "trash". Although I don't know much about assemblage art and the process of it, I can interpret it for hopefully what the artist wanted me to and
I can find the significance within it. The piece of work I chose to analyze comes from the Wexner Center for the Arts here at Ohio State University.
This piece of art was made in 1988 and comes from the Terri and Michael Smooke Collection, its name is TheLast Supper. Though I didn't learn about
assemblage, I was exposed to the relevance of one of the most historically significant paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper. This late
15th–century painting is a religion icon and depicts Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples at their last supper before Jesus was sent off to get crucified. I
believe the piece of art I analyzed was clearly inspired by Leonardo's The Last Supper due to the same name and key similarities I found in the
painting. For starters, my painting doesn't have any human figures represented in it but instead just silverware, "plates", and sardine cans. The sardine

Passover Lord's Supper
Biblical and historical testimony confirm the day on which the disciples met to participate in the Lord's supper, but the evidence weighed does not
speak to frequency. It is commonplace in Christian–oriented circles to observe the supper monthly, quarterly, or annually (Miller, Sunday and the
Lord's Supper). In support of these frequencies, one could argue that since Passover was a yearly observance, the Lord's supper should be also (Ex.
12:14; Deut. 16:1). He may also argue that frequent participation in the supper cheapens the occasion. Do either of these claims satisfy the question of
frequency? Several Scriptural inferences, and some direct statements, indicate otherwise. History also lends assistance on this point. First, the
Scriptures directly speak to a weekly assembly on Sunday (1 Cor. 16:1–2). The Greek preposition translated "on" has the force of "every" (Thiselton
1321). Thus, the Christians in Corinth assembled together every Sunday in one place to participate in the Lord's supper and lay aside funds for the
needy saints in Jerusalem (1 Cor. 11:20). Paul also implies frequent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sabbath has not become Sunday contrary to the claims of many Christian–oriented people (Carson 133–34, 136). However, many of the principles
from the Sabbath do apply to Sunday. In God's command to observe the Sabbath, He did not mention that it had to be kept every week (Ex. 20:8–11).
Yet, a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath was seized and stoned by God's command (Num. 15:32–36). This seems like a harsh penalty for picking up
sticks, but it was just because the man violated God's command to do no work on the Sabbath day. The man may have been able to argue that he kept
the previous Sabbath and intended to keep the next, but God clearly wanted it observed every week, not just when people fancied it. Likewise, Sunday
assemblies are intended to participate in the Lord's supper weekly (Miller, Sunday and the Lord's

the narrator's father, a cold, stern man who is very proud of his noble samurai blood that begins softening up in old age in effort to reconnect with his
family after losing them all to different causes. One example of this is the narrator and the father reflecting on their past, with the fathering admitting

Jesus's Last Supper
Jesus's last supper with his disciples has been a prominent story within the New Testament. At Jesus's last supper, he delivers a speech on how to
remember him once he is gone. Within the gospels of Matt, Mark, Luke, and John much is communicated within just a few verses; unfortunately, these
accounts differ so much that it is difficult to know exactly what happened at this supper. The earliest witness of the synoptic gospels are Mark and
Matthew (Marks first). You can say the accounts of Mark and Matthew are nearly identical. This is due to the fact that Matthew originates from the
same cultural background of Mark. Matthew has a tendency of mirroring Marks work and adding his own stuff to his narrative. They wrote their

Power In One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Throughout time ancient civilizations have almost always imposed certain guidelines upon people under their control. Very few people are able to
be the spark or catalyst to change everything around. Only a man who stands up for his personal ideals and refuses to walk in line with others, can
overcome the imposed beliefs and will be able to obtain freedom from the shackles of society's imposed ideals. Throughout history men and women
have tested societal boundaries and challenged authority even inspiring others to follow and turning them into freedom fighters. Ken Kesey examines
how a single person can impact the repressed in society with his critically acclaimed "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." The novel is a story of a
battle for power between a mischievous yet intelligent leader and a crooked head nurse. This battle infinitely changes the patients of a mental hospital.
In his novel, Ken Kesey uses religious imagery to show that when a superior force implements behaviors on those within its power, it can motivate a
revolution, which often results in change. In the first excerpt of the novel, power is dominated by Nurse Ratched, a former military nurse who has a
strong hunger for power. Her work place and the setting for the book takes place in the mental ward. The ward is initially portrayed as a society to help
patients, but in reality the nurse manipulates patients and breaks them down mentally. Patients are shaved daily,... Show more content on

including the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. He was not only an Italian painter, but he also was a sculptor, inventor, architect, and mathematician
among other things. DaVinci also designed the calculator and the helicopter.
The Last Supper was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1495. The Last Supper shows the itelligence and artistic side of him. The painting is simple in
style compared to the other painting of this era. Da Vinci's mural painting, "The Last Supper," was painted in Milan. (Art E. o.) The painting is now
hung in the dining hall at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. The painting shows the dramatic movement and depiction of light and shade. The
painting was painted on a dry wall rather then on wet plaster. Leonardo sealed the stone with a layer of pitch, gesso, and mastic. He then painted over
it with tempera paint. (Art E. o.)As a result of painting with tempera

"A Family Supper" emphasizes the value of family through the portrayal of a struggling Japanese family seeking to overcome obstacles preventing

Essay on Why the Christian Ritual of Communion is So Special
As a Christian, there are many different rituals that many different denominations of Christianity follow. One common ritual among most
denominations of Christianity is partaking in communion together as a church on Sundays. This ritual holds a special place in my heart. It is
important to me because every time I take communion I am reminded of who put me here. I am also reminded of what Jesus did to save me for my sins
and why I am here on this Earth. Communion begins with the presentation of the bread and the wine. The bread represents the body of Jesus, broken
and put on a cross to forgive us for our sins. The wine represents the blood of Jesus, spilt while he was on the cross to once again forgive us of our
sins on this Earth. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The priest begins by talking about how on the night Jesus was betrayed, he called his disciples to a room to have dinner. To start off dinner, Jesus
took the bread, gave thanks to God, and told his disciples, "Take this, all of you, and eat of it. This is my body, which will be given up for you."
After saying this, the priest lifts up the bread while one of the altar servers rings a bell three times. After laying the bread down, the priest picks up
the chalice of wine. The priest tells the church that after supper was over Jesus took a chalice of wine and told his disciples "Take this, all of you,
and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be
forgiven. Do this in memory of me." The priest lifts up the wine while the same altar server rings the same bell three times. After laying down the
goblet of wine, the priest kneels, says a small prayer, and proclaims the mystery of faith. There are many different mysteries of faith that he may
proclaim. One popular mystery states, "Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again." After proclaiming the mystery, the priest picks up
the bread and says, "This is the lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper." The members of the
church reply, saying, "Lord, I am not worthy to receive you. But only say the word and I shall be healed." The priest takes a piece of

Throughout The Bible, Jesus Is Known For Eating With The
Throughout the bible, Jesus is known for eating with the marginalized people in the society. To save the sinners Jesus had to have contact with them.
Through these meals, Jesus created a connection with the marginalized groups and spread the word of God. The last supper was the last meal that
Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion. In my essay, I will discuss the painting The Sacrament of theLast Supper by Salvador DalГ. I will
discuss how the painting shows the divinity of Jesus, displays Jesus, and interprets the last supper.
The Sacrament of the Last Supper by Salvador Dali is a large painting in the National Gallery of Art. In the painting there a twelve sided, windowpane.

Additionally, just like the second tallest man on the right of Jesus, a small portion of his neck is visible. The next man, the shortest of the three men,
has white hair and is wearing a white cloak. He is in the same position as the shortest man on the right side of Jesus. His hands are visible and clasped.
On the right side, the width, of the table there are two men. The first man has brunette hair, is wearing a white cloak, and has his head bowed. The
second mad is also a brunette. He is wearing a white cloak. On the left side, the width, of the table there are two men. Both men are brunette and
have their heads bowed. On the length of the table, with their backs to the viewer, there are two men. The two men are sitting with a large space
between them. They are both wearing long white cloaks. On the table between these two men there are two small circular loaves of bread. On the
opposite side of the table, in front of Jesus, there is a cup of red wine.
To properly understand the painting, the viewer must understand what the painting is depicting. Matthew 26:17–30 describes the last supper Jesus
shared with his disciples. The Gospel starts off with Jesus sitting at the table with his twelve disciples, just like the painting depicts. Jesus tells his
disciples that one man will betray him.

Last Supper Tintoretto
The early years of the Italian Renaissance paintings focuses on a naturalistic stand point whereas the late Renaissance years merge into mannerism
introducing an idealistic stand point. Mannerism acts as a gateway into the Baroque style of art parting way with scenes of tranquility with earth tone
colors and realistic aesthetics and drawing closer to exaggerated scenes with vibrant colors and melodramatic atmospheres. The two "Last Supper"
paintings by Leonardo Da Vinci and Jacopo Tintoretto illustrate perfect examples of the transition from the realism of earlyRenaissance art into the
later Renaissance styles of mannerism and shows a hint of what's to come in Baroque style art. Leonardo Da Vinci investigates a naturalistic approach in
his painting to portray an intimate religious experience without needing excessive emotion whereas Tintoretto uses dramatic light ... Show more content

Analysis Of The Last Supper
The Last Supper by leonardo da vinci, This is a significant piece of italian high renaissance artwork (This artwork is known as the first high
renaissance aesthetics) and is still known as one of the best works of christian art. This scene by leonardo depicts the last days of jesus christ on
earth. In the gospel of John 13:21 it states "Verily I say unto you: one of you will betray me". Though this artwork may look like a strong biblical
depiction on first take. It is a much more complex piece of artwork. To analyze this painting we will first take a look at the apostles themselves.
Starting from the left and working to the right. There are four easily recognisable groups of three. The first group Bartholomew, James and Andrew,
Their reactions to the news shocked. The group to the right of Andrew is Judas iscariot who is taken back at this, beside him is peter who is clenching
a knife and looks blustery. The youngest of the apostles John is overcome by the news and faint. The third group is Thomas is simply upset,
Followed by james who is very shocked almost as if he has been slapped. Philips is looking around and wanting an explanations as to why. For the
final group Jude along with Mathew look towards simon asking for some type answers. This paintings is even unique just for the placement of one
apostles in particular this being judas. In many past portrayals of this scene Judas is the only one not wearing a halo or instead is put alone of to the

Paper On The Last Supper
As we near the end of the semester, it is important to reflect back on what was discussed and learned. We have viewed many pieces of work over
the last few months including relatively old pieces as well as modern ones. With everything in life, one will develop their personal opinion on the
matter. With that being said, I have chosen two pieces of work to contemplate: one being positive and one being negative. There were many pieces
throughout the semester that I could develop a positive or even a negative response to, however, the following are my top two pieces in each
aspect. The Last Supper, which was created by Leonardo da Vinci in 1498, can easily be considered as one of the most famous paintings to this day. I
chose this work to serve as my positive response simply because in my opinion there is not a single... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The painting is absolutely beautiful in terms of visual aspects. Leonardo used a one–point perspective to effectively accentuate the center of the
painting, which is most obviously Jesus Christ. Not only does he put the vanishing point at Christ's head, but he creates a triangle with his body
that no other object overlaps. He uses contrast to light up the middle of the painting while making the edges much darker. All of these create a
powerful image of Jesus. Not only do I like the painting for it's beautiful visual aspects but it's emotional beauty. It doesn't necessarily make me sad.
It more so opens my eyes to the reality of the story. The painting was designed to be different from the previous depictions of the last supper.
Leonardo has given his take on the psychology of each of the figures in the painting. The emotions of each of the apostles is overwhelming and
ultimately give off the affect of a subtle chaos due to the fact that Christ has just told them one of them will betray him.

The Prayer Of An Ecumenical Worship
An ecumenical worship strives to unify people of a specific church. On campus, there is a group called Common Ground which offers a weekly
ecumenical worship on Sundays at 8pm in the Clock tower lounge. The service that I attended lasted for an hour and included Communion. Also, two
students read from the scriptures: John 20:19 to John 20:30 relating to "An Empty Tomb" and dealing with doubt. An activity being included during
the service surprised me. I knew at some churches there was time for reflections and moments to speak with a neighbor, but the activity was
connected to Matthew 26:36 to Matthew 26:56. The symbolism of taking a cup and helping to ease one's troubles was especially calming at this time

Some believe that the bread and wine are a literal representation of Christ's body. Others partake of Communion as a way to recreate a version of the
Last Supper. Not to say that is a wrong way of interpreting the bible, but that the practice fails to understand the historical–critical perspective of what
Communion is. The original symbolism of Communion was meant to help unify the church. However, in today's society, there are different
versions of Communion that actually separate the church into who is able or allowed to partake in the bread or the wine and who is not. There are
closed and open Communions which undermines the original intent of a Communion by limiting who is allowed to take in the bread and the wine.
That is not to say that Communion has been corrupted everywhere, but the fact that these terms exist exemplify that in some places, it has lost the
original meaning. At the service I attended the Communion was passed around and each person served their neighbor after their turn. I was in the
front row and would have been the last one to receive Communion. However, I was never baptized and do not believe in God. I didn't want to step
on anybody's toes, so I asked my friend who was next to me to bring it back to the front because I was nervous. She still offered it to me when my turn
for communion came along, and after I shook my head no, she brought it back to the front.
One of the difficulties the sermon I attended dealt with

I am going to discuss the representation of humans and the reflection of Renaissance themes in the following paintings; Caravaggio's 'The Taking of
Christ,' 'The Entombment of Christ,' 'Supper at Emmaus.' I will also be looking at DГјrer's 'Melencholia I.'
The most common themes featured in Renaissance art; classicism, individualism, secularism, nudes, nature, youth and religion.
Caravaggio's 'Supper at Emmaus' has been constructed according to Luke's narrative in the bible 24:28–32. Dramatic theatrical lighting surrounding
the figures in the painting is used to create a sense of surprise that would be appropriate for a sense of miracle. The themes of religion/ biblical art are
the most prevalent in this painting. There is also a symbolic meaning to the choice of fruit featured in this painting. The apple is significantly associated

Each garment or item in the painting that is coloured seems consistent and stable despite the juxtaposition between lightness and darkness. The
central figure, Christ, is portrayed as both youthful and beardless. With this portrayal of Christ comes a sensuality and sense of ambiguity. This is
not unlike figures shown before in Caravaggio's paintings of boys and angels. In the 'Supper at Emmaus,' Caravaggio employed several different
techniques for the positioning of the figures, for example the use of 'abbozzo.' Abbozzo is rapidly executed, diagonal brushstrokes used as a rough
guide to the placing of forms. He also used 'rilievo.' This is a sculpture consisting of shapes carved on a surface so as to stand out from the surrounding

The Renaissance took place from the 14 century through the middle of the 17 century. It was a time of social rebirth in Italy and the mid west of

Multiple years of restoration attempts finally resulted in a restoration of the painting, but there were very few original strokes left of the mastery behind
Leonardo Da Vinci's paintbrush.
In relation to the story that the picture told, it was an interpretation of the supper which Jesus had before his hanging on the cross. The painting also
represents the moment after Jesus reveals that one of His own disciples will betray Him, leading to His capture before crucifixion. It truly captures
the distress amongst the disciples and the confusion, anxiety, and worry in their hearts. While in this moment of commotion, Jesus is found in the
center of it all in a state of acceptance and found reaching for the bread and wine that He uses to show His love and sacrifice to the disciples. It is a
painting that represents a turning point in the life of Jesus and these men.
Within in the painting, is there a sign of Anger? Confusion? Peace? Debate? As the men turn to converse with each other, appearing to fall victim of
doubt and questioning toward the leader whom they had been following for years now and given their whole life to, they were experiencing multiple
emotions. They wondered why He told them that He was going to let one of them betray him as He could just snap his fingers and prevent any event

Reflection Of The Last Supper
The Last Supper The Last Supper was painted by da Vinci between 1495 and 1498. It is 15 feet wide by 29 feet long and it is not in a museum, it is
in a church. This painting depicts the last supper that was celebrated by Jesus and his disciples, as told in the Gospel of John, and the reactions given
by each disciple when Jesus reveals to them that one of them would betray him. Starting from the left and moving to right the each individual figure is
as follows:
Furthest to the left is Bartholomew. Next to him is James, son of Alphaeus, and Andrew. These three men appear to be surprised. Next to Andrew
is Judas Iscariot, Peter and John who formed the next group of three. Judas is holding a small bag in his right hand which could mean two things;
either as a symbol of silver that was given to him as a payment for betraying Jesus, or could be a reference of him as the treasurer of the twelve
disciples. Peter, who is next to Judas, looks angry and he is holding a knife and this could in a reference where Jesus was arrested and he cut off one
of the guard's ears, which was later restored by Jesus. And then there is the youngest apostle John. In the center ... Show more content on

What is The Eucharist?
The Eucharist is a sacrament that gives expression to our faith. Sacraments are a sign of our intimate unity with God. There is a rich, deep connection
between what the Church is and what sacraments are that is profoundly evident in the celebration of the Eucharist. God's presence is mediated by the
Church and its' sacraments "to an unseen reality and ... [makes] that reality "present" to us."
"The church is impossible without the Eucharist" , the centre of our Christian lives.
Memorial is an integral part of Eucharist. With origins in the Passover meal, we cannot understand Eucharist without knowledge of Passover. The
symbolism of both rituals is deeply entwined; we remember, give thanks, worship, and renew our covenant with God.
Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Although scholars are uncertain as to whether the Last Supper was the Passover meal, it "took
place in the atmosphere of the Passover" . The Last Supper added a new dimension to the Jewish ritual meal, "in terms of what (or better who) was
celebrated" . Jesus asked the disciples to "do this in memory of me" (1 Cor 11:24, The NIV study Bible). It is not merely a memorial recalling past
covenants and sacrifices, but central to the Church, acting powerfully in the present and opening out towards the future. Denis Edwards says we often
forget that "every Eucharist has a thanks giving memorial for God at work in creation as well as in redemption." Early Christian Eucharistic prayers,

Compare And Contrast The Spirit Of Detroit And The Last...
The two totally different pieces of art, "The Spirit of Detroit" and "The Last Supper" both symbolize the same meaning, religion and human feelings.
"The Spirit of Detroit" and "The Last Supper" took three years to create their piece of art. "The Last Supper" was started in 1495 and was finished in
1498. "The Spirit of Detroit" shows symbolism by holding a bronze sphere that represents religion in his right hand, in his left–hand sits figures of a
small family. "The Last Supper" shows their symbolism of religion and family by coming together all as one religion for a dinner on the eve of Jesus's
crucifixion. Even though one is a sculpture and one is a painting made by two different people, they both symbolize the same thing.
Marshall Fredrick created a very beautiful piece of art called "The Spirit of Detroit". This sculpture was created in 1958. This piece of art was
made to represent the city of Detroit, it became a Detroit symbol and landmark. Its name came from the people of Detroit themselves, likely
inspired by the biblical verse behind the figure Corinthians 3:17: "Now the Lord is that Spirit, and where The Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty"
(Spirit of Detroit). The statue sits in the core of downtown Detroit in front of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. The sculpture was 26 feet tall
and weighs sixty ton of marble. The sculpture costed $58,000 when it was first built. In 2013, they reappraised the statue and it is now worth at least
$1,000,000. When "The Spirit of Detroit" was first built, it was the largest cast iron bronze statue since the renaissance. "The Spirit of Detroit" is a
man with his arms outstretched, holding a bronze sphere symbolizing religion in his right hand, and in his left–hand sits figures of a small family. The
statue's plaque reads, Through the Spirit of man is manifested in the family, the noblest human relationship" (Sternberg, Laura). "The Spirit of Detroit"
was given a nickname, "The Jolly Green Giant" because the bronze statue tarnished and weathered green over the years of sitting outside. Throughout
the different sport seasons, they would put a Detroit Jersey on "The Spirit of Detroit" during playoffs. "The Spirit of Detroit" reminds me a

Film Analysis Of Christian Symbolism In The Last Supper
This film begins in a remote 19th–century Danish village where a Lutheran minister and his two daughters reside. Early in the movie, both daughters
have the option to leave their home and venture off into different parts of the world: one with a young Swedish military man named Lorens and the
other with a French opera singer who attempts to take one of the sisters as his protГ©gГ©. Both politely reject the offers to escape their pious
village, choosing to stay with their father instead. Years later, after the father's passing, a young French woman by the name of Babette arrives at
their door with a note. The note is addressed to the sisters from the Frenchman, begging them to provide refuge for Babette as she just escaped the
French Civil War. The sisters take her in and put her to work as their servant. Soon after, the sisters want to host a celebration for what would have
been their father's 100th birthday. Babette, who recently won the French lottery offers to cook a full French meal for the celebration. The sisters

Raphael's Last Supper
Art is a beauty that can capture the essence of something, but also can be interpreted differently depending on an individual's perspective. Art can be
expressive, but it takes an artist to create their own definition of beauty while the audience interprets it. By using the year that Raphael's School of
Athens was created as a mark for artwork that was created before and after that time frame, I have chosen the Last Supper as a piece that was created
before and the Mona Lisa as a piece that was created after. Each individual piece of art expresses a different idea and belief, sometimes with a common
or sometimes without a common broader significance.

This is an oil painting that was also created by Leonardo da Vinci, however, it is determined that is was created between the year 1503–1506, but was
continued and was entirely finished by 1517. For certain, it has been painted during 1503–1506, but an art historian, Martin Kemp, said there was an
uncertainty with confirming the actual date of when Leonardo's piece was actually completed. Giorgio Vasari, Leonardo's contemporary, had
mentioned how it has been apiece left unfinished and was regretted that it was never been completed in one sitting. As King Francois I invited
Leonardo to work near the king's castle, it is believed that during that time, he continued to work on this Mona Lisa piece until 1516 or 1517. Mona
Lisa is an oil painting on a poplar wood panel and it is believed that the subject of the portrait is possibly Lisa Ghenardini the wife of Francesco del

general position is vertical, with her arms folded as a sign of a reserved posture, with a gaze only towards to her observer, with a warm, silent, look

connecting humanity and nature. Aside from that, it is also believed that the smile is an indication of a hidden secret. Due to the expression of the
subject in the portrait, it is a continuing fascination and is a great influence to many other paintings. Additionally, the Mona Lisa is one of his most

The Last Supper By Sebastiano Ricci
Art is a particular form of social consciousness and of human activities, an important way for people to perceive, discover and improve life: according
to the laws of beauty. It is the creation of tangible or intangible products containing great values of thought–aesthetics, cultural character, and emotions.
In this sense, there are numerous types of art. Painting is one of the oldest forms of art on earth. From prehistoric times, artists not only used it to
communicate, but they also used painting to entertain the viewers. Painting can be transformed, eliminating the tedium, fatigue, and stress in daily
tasks to bring the joy. Fun in life or silence for the soul. In other words, painting is a language that communicates an artist 's ideas ... Show more content

In the visual arts, composition is the way to build a work to communicate the intent of the art in the brightest and most persuasive way. The most
important thing in composition is the creation of the artistic image. The Last Supper's composition is very ingenious. Sebastiano arranges the disciples
into groups of three, each side of Jesus has two groups. All lines and gestures are centered toward Jesus. From one group to the other, the artist makes
an effort to connect with one another in a very natural way; the example of the guy stands on the opposite side of the table on Jesus's right is putting his
hand on the guy's shoulder that sits next to him to connect the two right–wing groups, and between the two groups on the left, they were making eye
contacts.
As we all know, color is the voice for the artist 's sentiment. It makes up the appearance of a picture. Color is the decisive factor in depths of the
two–dimensional plane of the artwork, making the viewer feel physically and mentally attracted, or the context of things – the phenomenon the author
wants to present. Colors have been around for a long time, but there is not a common definition for colors. And perhaps humans are one of the
luckiest creatures that can identify colors. Often, the recipient 's eye knows a myriad of colors and colors that always change based on the
relationship between light and perspective. In art, color creates a sense of

A Tale of Two Last Suppers Jesus's Last Supper, as detailed in the Gospels, was vital to the story of Christ. At this supper, there was a major
development – one that would shape Jesus's life and shape Christianity itself. It is at this final supper where Jesus announces to all of his apostles that
one of them will betray him. This is, of course, in reference to Judas, who would turn Jesus into the authorities in return for a reward. The apostles were
shocked and confused. This major development is at the core mythology of Christianity, and it is why the Last Supper has been so frequently painted by
artists throughout the centuries. Two of the most famous paintings of the Last Supper are by Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Castagno.... Show more

It is naturally one of the first things that we see when we look at the different renditions of the famous scene, and this makes sense. Typically, Jesus is
in the middle of the painting, while flanked by the 12 apostles on either side of him. Naturally, then, our eyes will focus on the center of the painting –
Jesus. However, in Castagno's painting, Jesus is not quite at the center of the painting, as pointed out by Joseph Polzer (15). He notes that John's body
and not Christ's is the one that connects with the center of the painting. John's head is face down on the table, leaned toward Jesus (15–16). While John
is at the exact center of the painting, Jesus has the same number of people on either side of him. Polzer points out that Judas' dark head is vertically
above every other character in the painting, including Christ (16). Polzer argues that this is meant to emphasize the role of evil in humanity (16). The
composition of Castagno's work was also unique in how he used contrast throughout the painting. He was one of the pioneers of using contrasting light
to further amplify the drama of "mighty" events

Turning Points In The Last Supper

  • 1. Turning Points In The Last Supper Since the beginning of time, whether we practice religion or not, there seems to be a leader that the people in general follow or look up to bring comfort in our existence to society. The Last Supper was created by an Italian artist by the name of Leonardo Da Vinci in the fifteenth century. It is quite a distinctive piece and has a great deal of detail for it being a fresco. More than half of the world is familiar with The Last Supper. With Christianity being a dominant religion throughout the world, the painting connects with the bible noting that some of the major turning points took place during The Last Supper. It would be depicted as Jesus' final dinner with his disciples. Liberty Leading the People was created in 1830 by an artist by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hundreds of years apart and yet the two paintings have so much in common as well as their differences. No matter the date of the work the quality and meaning will always stand the test of time. The Last Supper may not have had death painted, but the sorrow that the disciples told the story of their leader coming in the near future. In the end victory would be in the death of Jesus as he was put here to die for man. Lady Liberty presents death, defeat, glory, and accomplishment at the same time. Eugene Delacoix presented Liberty Leading the People it a dark way to show what had to take place in order to get the victory. In the Last Supper Judas shows how hard it is to resist the temptation of overturning his Lord and Savior for the bearings of silver and gold, while at the same time Lady Liberty brings temptation of murder to fight for what we believe is right. Two different day in ages as well as two different cultural background shows the instilment of human nature and what we have used to progress as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Examples Of The Eucharist New Covenant Of Non-Violence "The Eucharist's New Covenant of Non–violence" Christian theology insists upon the notion of a non–violent communal bond. For most Christians, this defining rite is communion or the Eucharist. Outside of Jesus, the Eucharist would have no Christian meaning. It is the bread and wine that gives us such a beautiful opportunity to come before Him and feel his presence whenever we want. When our hearts are pure, we get to experience the most perfect union with God through the sacrament of the Eucharist. The Last Supper was a gathering for Christ to fellowship with His disciples one last time prior to His arrest and crucifixion. This final meal contains many significant principles, and continues to be an important part of Christian life throughout the world. The Eucharist represents a covenant of non–violence. To participate in Christ's body in the Eucharist means, in part, to recognize the nature of sin and atonement. This example of sacrifice is not about battling external enemies. The root of peacemaking is understanding that we are all members of God's Kingdom and when one suffers, we all suffer together, and when one rejoices, we all rejoice. War divides up the world, like friends and enemies. Christians who epitomize non–violence are accused of trying to impose it on sinful human beings. It is ironic that killing is considered heroic, while refraining is not. Peacemaking requires a humble commitment to caring for others, such as feeding the hungry, giving to ... • 3. Overlapping Stories of Osiris and Jesus Essay This is a comparative essay of Osiris and Jesus. In this essay I will compare the two stories on 8 points that I found kind of overlap on one another. It should be pointed out that the Egyptian myth came around more than 2000 years before Jesus was even said to be born. The first topic is the Birth of the two Gods and the signs given as to when they came. When Osiris was born To Geb the Egyptian Earth God and Nut the Sky goddess a voice came to Pamyles to spread the good word and Pamyles attended him for life. When Jesus was born in Jerusalem he was born of the Virgin Mary and of the father Joseph. The night he was born a voice came down from heaven and a shepherd tending his flock heard it and went to see the child, also three wise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Pharisee's plotted to get Jesus killed because of what he taught and how it affected the church controlled state. While Osiris did not have jealous outsiders, the jealousy that would eventually kill him was within his own family, his brother Seth who wanted the crown and Isis his wife for his very own. Both Jesus and Osiris had a "last supper or Feast". Osiris had one with his family when he returned from his travels. Seth and 72 coconspirators tricked him and locked him in a coffin and threw it into the Nile. Jesus had a last supper with his 12 disciples taking bread and wine and giving Christians the tradition of communion. After the last supper Jesus went to the gardens to pray and was betrayed by Judas and given to the Roman soldiers, like Osiris was betrayed by his brother Seth as Jesus's disciples were like his family. The next point is that both died of wood. Jesus died on a wooden cross after he was beaten and tortured by the roman soldiers. Osiris died of wood also in his story his coffin floats down the Nile until it got stuck on a great tree and was encased by the tree. The tree was then cut down by a used as a great pillar in a palace. The annual flooding of the Nile is supposed to represent this story as the flood come from the tears after Osiris died much the same way Christians follow the Easter Story every year. In Jesus's story after he died on the cross he was taken down and buried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Art Piece Name Yo Mama 's Last Supper By Cox In this essay I am going to conduct an "Australian Bushman" approach to analyze the art piece name Yo Mama's Last Supper by Cox. Later on in the essay, I will include contextualization of the analysis. This art piece portrays a darker colored woman in the middle with twelve men sitting at the table, six men on each side. She is not wearing any sort of garments except for a simple white cloth around her spread out arms. All men are divided into three–men group based upon similar actions. The man immediate right to the woman is the only man with paler skin color. On the table, there are feast of fruits, vegetables, bread, and drinks. Now, I must conduct a conceptualization in this analysis. The combination of nakedness and white cloth that are worn around her arms could be to symbolize the purity and holiness of female body, or, it could be a symbolism for the persisting sexism in the world. It highlights the fact that women are only seen as a mere sex object from men in the world. This can be seen from the gaze and expression of other man at the table. From the title of this art piece, it tells us that this woman is posing as Jesus Christ; she is spreading her arm out like Jesus depicted in the iconic painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. Instead of Jesus being a man, Cox used herself, a woman, to represent Jesus. The fact that the Bible is based upon Jesus and his twelve disciples, which all are male, tells us that there is a patriarchal and sexist sense embedded within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Meaning Of The Lord Supper The meaning of the Lord's Supper, in the Greek term from the Old and New Testament. There will be biblical exegesis on the passages and the research will show how the literary context reflects the discourses of the passages, through grammar and liturgical context, for instance, how other scholars reviewed the books of the Lord Supper. The comparison and contrast of the Lords Supper throughout the synoptic gospels, such as Luke, Matthew, Mark Acts and 1 Cor.15:33 The thesis will prove to you that the Lord's Supper and the Resurrection are connected toJesus Christ and the believer for today's society through unity. In the book Old Testament, according to Exodus 6:6–71.the Lord's Supper was the deliverance of Israel from Egypt. The New Testament explains, it is through grace in the New Covenant for God's people through Jesus Christ blood redemptive and salvation we are unity. • 6. The New American Standard Bible Scripture quoted in this paper is from the New American Standard Bible (NASB), as it appears in the Comparative Study Bible, for the purpose of compliance with Bacone College's Christian Ministry Degree program. The Lord's Supper 14 В¶ When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God." 17 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes." 19 And when He had taken some bread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another translation problem is the mention of the cup twice. As explained in the NIV Archaeological Study Bible, "The "cup" refers either to the first of the four cups shared during the regular observance of the Passover meal or to the third cup." Stein explains the four cups in a Passover meal and suggests that "[i]t may have been the third of these cups that Jesus used in the Last Supper" while referencing Luke 22:20. Although these are explanations, they do not necessarily prove or disprove Jesus eating at a Passover meal. A third translation problem is the word "bread". The word "bread" in this verse comes from the Greek word "artos", meaning "bread (as raised) or a loaf" , which is not an unleavened bread. The obvious translation problem is the conflict between the Feast of Unleavened Bread and eating bread that is raised. Although many Christians in this modern age might find great inspiration in connecting the Risen Christ with raised bread, the meaning of the word only adds to the translation dilemma. The counter argument to raised bread being a symbol of the Risen Savior is found in the instructions given to Moses, which state, the blood of God's sacrifice must not be mixed with leaven bread. That could apply literally to the Passover meal and figuratively to Christ as the bread. Fourth, was the Last Supper the Passover meal, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on The Doctrine of the Lord's Supper The Doctrine of the Lord's Supper Introduction I think that no doctrine inside Christianity was as arguably and problematic as the doctrine of the Lord's Supper (Eucharistic). Not only that century–old fighting's is going on around the text: "This is my body" (1.Cor.11:24) between Roman Catholics and Protestants, but there is nonconformity regarding the question among Protestants themselves. The first notification of the Lord's Supper set a division among Christ's disciples, as they were shocked when Christ told them about the suffering that He must go through, so they said: "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" (John 6,60). The cause of this fighting is based on a question of understanding the nature of Christ's presence in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The church itself, which participates sacramentaly in making individuals into Christians, realizes its own being as church in the Eucharist." To this statement I would add the words of professor Janos Pasztor: "The sacrament of Lord's Supper is not only an addition to the Church, but it is an energy of the Church" that binds a humanity with the Kingdom of God that will come. In order to understand the meaning of Lord's Supper when we talk about Eschatology we will talk about the Passover because Lord's Supper lies on its grounds. We will see what was the goal in Christ's choosing the Passover to establish the Lord's Supper. First part of this paper will talk about Passover in the Old Testament (its establishment, celebration and meaning) and in the New Testament. In the second part we will talk about the Lord's Supper, its establishment, meaning, names and connection with the Kingdom of God. Since the relationship between Lord's Supper and Kingdom of God is faintly investigated, it would require much more space then we are able to use in this paper, so because of the limited space we will concentrate on the, in my opinion, most important elements. The Passover in the Old Testament The Passover is for the first time mentioned in the Bible in Exodus 12. In this chapter one event is described which is placed before the Israelis coming out from the Egyptian bondage. In the Bible we read (Genesis 46) that Jacob on a call of his son Joseph came to Egypt and

A literature poem that is beautifuly and creatvly assembled using words. This poem has a deap meaning about out society and how we indivaduals are so influnced by it. Eventually, society corruptes our purity and made us crumble until everything falled apart. In this world, literature is used and seen in many different forms, and through this forms we see profound effects in their time and even after that. We can see how literature influences modern society, and how most of the ideas were spread through some kind of literature form. We see the spark of cultural change through influential works of literature, and these works take the forms of writings, movies, or songs. These forms go on to change the core of culture, so we can see a different world every time. It causes us to be very manipulated by the message it spreads out. Literature does spark cultural change using influential works like the Bible , or the song 'Fireworks' by Katy perry and even poems like 'Still I Rise' by Maya Angelou. These kinds of influntial works tend to spark cultural change throught inspiration and knowledge. One of the ways literature sparks cultural change would be, by the inspirational works that have formed into songs and poems. • 10. Count's Last Supper The Count's Last Supper: La Gran Granja Throughout the film, the Count seeks to be recognized as a kind of Christ figure, identifying with the slaves as his loyal disciples. In this way, he deliberately chooses to overlook the relationship of labour with his slaves, created by the same economic necessity he claims to abhor. He cloaks the slaves in the assumption of their apostleship but addresses them as slaves and grants one of them his "freedom", seemingly ignoring their awareness of the difference between instrumental and absolute freedom. He justifies their enslavement on the basis of their own "animal natures", and seeks to convince himself that their labour is an instinctual, almost animal labour. But the slaves are aware, to varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It draws the viewer beyond questions of individuality and identity formation, reflecting upon the political consciousness for the conditions of work in Cuba in the 1970s. These are symbolized by the relationship between slave and master, ideology and its instrumentalization respectively. The interventions to Christ's Last Supper shape The Last Supper into a revisionist Marxist text that reflects upon the ills of the culture of the sugar plantations. Alea's desire is to make a film on Cuba's slave history in order to know and understand the past: '[...] we needed (and are going to continue to need for some time) to know how we were, how we lived, and how we fought in order to recover the broken temporal thread of our traditions, and to enrich it in this new historical epoch' (Alea cited in Mraz 1993). In this context, the film moves beyond the Marxist critique of slavery, as it was constructed in Fraginales's original text on which the film was based, offering instead a "parallel project of national awareness and recognition for the history and culture of Afro–Cubans, a project with a long and venerable history" (Schroeder 2002, 78). Alea did not craft The Last Supper as just a composite element of an incomplete historical jigsaw. The history is recuperated, aiming to foreground the inversions that take place during the supper, which then serve as glyphs to read the inversions of socialism happening in Cuba at the time. After the success of the Revolution, the Cuban government ensured the nationalization of commercial USA assets in Cuba, which resulted in the freezing of Cuba's financial assets in the USA and the breaking up of diplomatic ties between them. The imposition of the trade embargo by the USA resulted in the increasing trading of Cuba with its Soviet allies. The growth of this trade led to the ambitious target of La Gran Granja, ten million tons of sugar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Last Supper The Last Supper – Research Essay The Last Supper is a religious scene in the Catholic bible, which tells the story of the last meal the night before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. An important role in its religion, the Last Supper scene has been recreated by artists many times. These visual interpretations of the event generally show Jesus, surrounded by his disciples. During the meal, Jesus breaks the bread and serves the wine accompanied with the command "Take this all of you and eat it... this is my body... do this in remembrance of me". Three artists who have produced paintings of the Last Supper include Leonardo DaVinci, Jacopo Tintoretto and Salvador Dali. In contrast to the physical reaction of the disciples, Jesus is calm with a peaceful equilibrium and a dignified strength. He sits with his palms upturned to form a triangle with his arms and head, which again refers to the number three symbolising the Holy Trinity. By choosing this part of the story; he also chooses to leave out the bread and the wine normally sitting on the table in visuals of the Last Supper. Leonardo's version is also the first to have Judas sitting on the same side of the table as Jesus. Judas is identifiable by the symbols employed by Leonardo, such as the money bag clutched tightly in Judas' hand and the difference in his gesture and facial expression to the other disciples. Although this painting breaks conventions, the realism used by Leonardo helped the paintings function of conveying a "true" story to its audience to inspire them to be more faithful. Perceptions of this artwork will have changed over time, as today's audience is far less religious and would therefore be more likely to see 'The Last Supper' as an aesthetic piece of artwork rather than a narrative of a biblical story or connection to God. After the ride and fall of High Renaissance came the style known as Mannerism. This style involved developing artist individual style, artificial, aesthetically fantastic images and breaking away from tradition including Renaissance. Mannerism was inspired by the ... • 13. Assemblage Art And The Arts At Ohio State University Assemblage art is the process of an artist creating a piece of work out of objects and materials rather than just paints and brushes. Assemblage art interests me more because of the history of the materials before it was created into a work being displayed. The specific artist used other's scraps and "trash" to assemble a piece of art greater than both people combined and the ending product comes out to be something a lot more significant than "trash". Although I don't know much about assemblage art and the process of it, I can interpret it for hopefully what the artist wanted me to and I can find the significance within it. The piece of work I chose to analyze comes from the Wexner Center for the Arts here at Ohio State University. This piece of art was made in 1988 and comes from the Terri and Michael Smooke Collection, its name is TheLast Supper. Though I didn't learn about assemblage, I was exposed to the relevance of one of the most historically significant paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper. This late 15th–century painting is a religion icon and depicts Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples at their last supper before Jesus was sent off to get crucified. I believe the piece of art I analyzed was clearly inspired by Leonardo's The Last Supper due to the same name and key similarities I found in the painting. For starters, my painting doesn't have any human figures represented in it but instead just silverware, "plates", and sardine cans. The sardine cans near ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Passover Lord's Supper Biblical and historical testimony confirm the day on which the disciples met to participate in the Lord's supper, but the evidence weighed does not speak to frequency. It is commonplace in Christian–oriented circles to observe the supper monthly, quarterly, or annually (Miller, Sunday and the Lord's Supper). In support of these frequencies, one could argue that since Passover was a yearly observance, the Lord's supper should be also (Ex. 12:14; Deut. 16:1). He may also argue that frequent participation in the supper cheapens the occasion. Do either of these claims satisfy the question of frequency? Several Scriptural inferences, and some direct statements, indicate otherwise. History also lends assistance on this point. First, the Scriptures directly speak to a weekly assembly on Sunday (1 Cor. 16:1–2). The Greek preposition translated "on" has the force of "every" (Thiselton 1321). Thus, the Christians in Corinth assembled together every Sunday in one place to participate in the Lord's supper and lay aside funds for the needy saints in Jerusalem (1 Cor. 11:20). Paul also implies frequent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Sabbath has not become Sunday contrary to the claims of many Christian–oriented people (Carson 133–34, 136). However, many of the principles from the Sabbath do apply to Sunday. In God's command to observe the Sabbath, He did not mention that it had to be kept every week (Ex. 20:8–11). Yet, a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath was seized and stoned by God's command (Num. 15:32–36). This seems like a harsh penalty for picking up sticks, but it was just because the man violated God's command to do no work on the Sabbath day. The man may have been able to argue that he kept the previous Sabbath and intended to keep the next, but God clearly wanted it observed every week, not just when people fancied it. At Jesus's last supper, he delivers a speech on how to remember him once he is gone. Within the gospels of Matt, Mark, Luke, and John much is communicated within just a few verses; unfortunately, these accounts differ so much that it is difficult to know exactly what happened at this supper. The earliest witness of the synoptic gospels are Mark and Matthew (Marks first). You can say the accounts of Mark and Matthew are nearly identical. Very few people are able to be the spark or catalyst to change everything around. Only a man who stands up for his personal ideals and refuses to walk in line with others, can overcome the imposed beliefs and will be able to obtain freedom from the shackles of society's imposed ideals. Throughout history men and women have tested societal boundaries and challenged authority even inspiring others to follow and turning them into freedom fighters. Ken Kesey examines how a single person can impact the repressed in society with his critically acclaimed "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." The novel is a story of a battle for power between a mischievous yet intelligent leader and a crooked head nurse. This battle infinitely changes the patients of a mental hospital. In his novel, Ken Kesey uses religious imagery to show that when a superior force implements behaviors on those within its power, it can motivate a revolution, which often results in change. In the first excerpt of the novel, power is dominated by Nurse Ratched, a former military nurse who has a strong hunger for power. Not to say that is a wrong way of interpreting the bible, but that the practice fails to understand the historical–critical perspective of what Communion is. The original symbolism of Communion was meant to help unify the church. However, in today's society, there are different versions of Communion that actually separate the church into who is able or allowed to partake in the bread or the wine and who is not. There are closed and open Communions which undermines the original intent of a Communion by limiting who is allowed to take in the bread and the wine. I will also be looking at DГјrer's 'Melencholia I.' The most common themes featured in Renaissance art; classicism, individualism, secularism, nudes, nature, youth and religion. Caravaggio's 'Supper at Emmaus' has been constructed according to Luke's narrative in the bible 24:28–32. Dramatic theatrical lighting surrounding the figures in the painting is used to create a sense of surprise that would be appropriate for a sense of miracle. The themes of religion/ biblical art are the most prevalent in this painting. There is also a symbolic meaning to the choice of fruit featured in this painting. The apple is significantly associated with the 'Temptation' and 'The Fall of Man.' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each garment or item in the painting that is coloured seems consistent and stable despite the juxtaposition between lightness and darkness. The central figure, Christ, is portrayed as both youthful and beardless. With this portrayal of Christ comes a sensuality and sense of ambiguity. This is not unlike figures shown before in Caravaggio's paintings of boys and angels. In the 'Supper at Emmaus,' Caravaggio employed several different techniques for the positioning of the figures, for example the use of 'abbozzo.' Abbozzo is rapidly executed, diagonal brushstrokes used as a rough guide to the placing of forms. He also used 'rilievo.' • 31. Renaissance : The Last Supper Renaissance Art CP The Renaissance took place from the 14 century through the middle of the 17 century. It was a time of social rebirth in Italy and the mid west of the world. It reconstructed the political, social, and religious status of society in this area. It was a revival to follow the learning and values of Greece and Rome once again in a world ruled by political stability and the desire for development and prosperity. This was majorly reflected by the artists of this time presenting the mysteries and wonders of the natural world in their work. During this time there were multiple artists of professional status, whom we still remember today and honor for their expertise. These individuals were the forefront of the Renaissance and ... Multiple years of restoration attempts finally resulted in a restoration of the painting, but there were very few original strokes left of the mastery behind Leonardo Da Vinci's paintbrush. In relation to the story that the picture told, it was an interpretation of the supper which Jesus had before his hanging on the cross. The painting also represents the moment after Jesus reveals that one of His own disciples will betray Him, leading to His capture before crucifixion. It truly captures the distress amongst the disciples and the confusion, anxiety, and worry in their hearts. While in this moment of commotion, Jesus is found in the center of it all in a state of acceptance and found reaching for the bread and wine that He uses to show His love and sacrifice to the disciples. It is a painting that represents a turning point in the life of Jesus and these men. Within in the painting, is there a sign of Anger? Confusion? Peace? Debate? As the men turn to converse with each other, appearing to fall victim of doubt and questioning toward the leader whom they had been following for years now and given their whole life to, they were experiencing multiple emotions. They wondered why He told them that He was going to let one of them betray him as He could just snap his fingers and prevent any event of the sort from occurring. They were of the human mind and ... • 32. Reflection Of The Last Supper The Last Supper The Last Supper was painted by da Vinci between 1495 and 1498. It is 15 feet wide by 29 feet long and it is not in a museum, it is in a church. This painting depicts the last supper that was celebrated by Jesus and his disciples, as told in the Gospel of John, and the reactions given by each disciple when Jesus reveals to them that one of them would betray him. Starting from the left and moving to right the each individual figure is as follows: Furthest to the left is Bartholomew. Next to him is James, son of Alphaeus, and Andrew. These three men appear to be surprised. Next to Andrew is Judas Iscariot, Peter and John who formed the next group of three. Judas is holding a small bag in his right hand which could mean two things; either as a symbol of silver that was given to him as a payment for betraying Jesus, or could be a reference of him as the treasurer of the twelve disciples. Peter, who is next to Judas, looks angry and he is holding a knife and this could in a reference where Jesus was arrested and he cut off one of the guard's ears, which was later restored by Jesus. And then there is the youngest apostle John. In the center ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. What is The Eucharist? The Eucharist is a sacrament that gives expression to our faith. Sacraments are a sign of our intimate unity with God. There is a rich, deep connection between what the Church is and what sacraments are that is profoundly evident in the celebration of the Eucharist. God's presence is mediated by the Church and its' sacraments "to an unseen reality and ... [makes] that reality "present" to us." "The church is impossible without the Eucharist" , the centre of our Christian lives. Memorial is an integral part of Eucharist. With origins in the Passover meal, we cannot understand Eucharist without knowledge of Passover. The symbolism of both rituals is deeply entwined; we remember, give thanks, worship, and renew our covenant with God. Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Although scholars are uncertain as to whether the Last Supper was the Passover meal, it "took place in the atmosphere of the Passover" . The Last Supper added a new dimension to the Jewish ritual meal, "in terms of what (or better who) was celebrated" . Jesus asked the disciples to "do this in memory of me" (1 Cor 11:24, The NIV study Bible). It is not merely a memorial recalling past covenants and sacrifices, but central to the Church, acting powerfully in the present and opening out towards the future. Denis Edwards says we often forget that "every Eucharist has a thanks giving memorial for God at work in creation as well as in redemption." Early Christian Eucharistic prayers, with origins in ... • 34. "The Last Supper" was started in 1495 and was finished in 1498. "The Spirit of Detroit" shows symbolism by holding a bronze sphere that represents religion in his right hand, in his left–hand sits figures of a small family. "The Last Supper" shows their symbolism of religion and family by coming together all as one religion for a dinner on the eve of Jesus's crucifixion. Even though one is a sculpture and one is a painting made by two different people, they both symbolize the same thing. Marshall Fredrick created a very beautiful piece of art called "The Spirit of Detroit". This sculpture was created in 1958. This piece of art was made to represent the city of Detroit, it became a Detroit symbol and landmark. Its name came from the people of Detroit themselves, likely inspired by the biblical verse behind the figure Corinthians 3:17: "Now the Lord is that Spirit, and where The Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (Spirit of Detroit). The statue sits in the core of downtown Detroit in front of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. The sculpture was 26 feet tall and weighs sixty ton of marble. The sculpture costed $58,000 when it was first built. In 2013, they reappraised the statue and it is now worth at least $1,000,000. When "The Spirit of Detroit" was first built, it was the largest cast iron bronze statue since the renaissance. "The Spirit of Detroit" is a man with his arms outstretched, holding a bronze sphere symbolizing religion in his right hand, and in his left–hand sits figures of a small family. The statue's plaque reads, Through the Spirit of man is manifested in the family, the noblest human relationship" (Sternberg, Laura). "The Spirit of Detroit" was given a nickname, "The Jolly Green Giant" because the bronze statue tarnished and weathered green over the years of sitting outside. Throughout the different sport seasons, they would put a Detroit Jersey on "The Spirit of Detroit" during playoffs. "The Spirit of Detroit" reminds me a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Last Supper The Last Supper, by Leonardo da Vinci, is one of the most famous works of art in the world. This painting represents the religious ceremony with Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples. When I see the painting the shape is symmetric in the sense that there are the same amount of people on both sides of Jesus. The genre of this painting is Christian art. There are also four panels on both sides of the walls. In my opinion, the target audience that this painting was intended for are those who are believers of Christ. I feel this way because I think that this painting portrays the event that is talked about in the bible in the scripture Matthew 26, verse 21 where Jesus says "..."Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.". He then continues in verse 23 saying, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me". In the painting, you can clearly see the man two seats away from his right reaching for the bowl at the same time as Christ. • 36. Film Analysis Of Christian Symbolism In The Last Supper This film begins in a remote 19th–century Danish village where a Lutheran minister and his two daughters reside. Early in the movie, both daughters have the option to leave their home and venture off into different parts of the world: one with a young Swedish military man named Lorens and the other with a French opera singer who attempts to take one of the sisters as his protГ©gГ©. Both politely reject the offers to escape their pious village, choosing to stay with their father instead. Years later, after the father's passing, a young French woman by the name of Babette arrives at their door with a note. The note is addressed to the sisters from the Frenchman, begging them to provide refuge for Babette as she just escaped the French Civil War. The sisters take her in and put her to work as their servant. Soon after, the sisters want to host a celebration for what would have been their father's 100th birthday. Babette, who recently won the French lottery offers to cook a full French meal for the celebration. The sisters reluctantly accept her offer and she prepares a meal that would change the lives of her and those enjoying her meal. Upon analysis of the film, it is obvious that Christian symbolism in laced throughout. From the opening scene of the hanging cod to the feast that could be compared to portrayals of The Last Supper, the film has obvious ties to Christianity, but these ties may go further than the common viewer might see. Art can be expressive, but it takes an artist to create their own definition of beauty while the audience interprets it. By using the year that Raphael's School of Athens was created as a mark for artwork that was created before and after that time frame, I have chosen the Last Supper as a piece that was created before and the Mona Lisa as a piece that was created after. This is an oil painting that was also created by Leonardo da Vinci, however, it is determined that is was created between the year 1503–1506, but was continued and was entirely finished by 1517. For certain, it has been painted during 1503–1506, but an art historian, Martin Kemp, said there was an uncertainty with confirming the actual date of when Leonardo's piece was actually completed. Giorgio Vasari, Leonardo's contemporary, had mentioned how it has been apiece left unfinished and was regretted that it was never been completed in one sitting. As King Francois I invited Leonardo to work near the king's castle, it is believed that during that time, he continued to work on this Mona Lisa piece until 1516 or 1517. Mona Lisa is an oil painting on a poplar wood panel and it is believed that the subject of the portrait is possibly Lisa Ghenardini the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. The painting illustrates a woman in a half–body portrait, with a distant landscape backdrop. In the painting, it is noted that the sitter's general position is vertical, with her arms folded as a sign of a reserved posture, with a gaze only towards to her observer, with a warm, silent, look of communication. Her face appears to be brightly lit, whereas her hair, veil, and shadows were slightly darker. With Leonardo's soft blending; it had created two main, well–known features. This portrait is well known for the sitter's faint smile, which is believed to reflect Leonardo's idea and vision of connecting humanity and nature. Aside from that, it is also believed that the smile is an indication of a hidden secret. Due to the expression of the subject in the portrait, it is a continuing fascination and is a great influence to many other paintings. The Last Supper By Sebastiano Ricci Art is a particular form of social consciousness and of human activities, an important way for people to perceive, discover and improve life: according to the laws of beauty. It is the creation of tangible or intangible products containing great values of thought–aesthetics, cultural character, and emotions. In this sense, there are numerous types of art. Painting is one of the oldest forms of art on earth. From prehistoric times, artists not only used it to communicate, but they also used painting to entertain the viewers. In the visual arts, composition is the way to build a work to communicate the intent of the art in the brightest and most persuasive way. The most important thing in composition is the creation of the artistic image. The Last Supper's composition is very ingenious. Sebastiano arranges the disciples into groups of three, each side of Jesus has two groups. All lines and gestures are centered toward Jesus. From one group to the other, the artist makes an effort to connect with one another in a very natural way; the example of the guy stands on the opposite side of the table on Jesus's right is putting his hand on the guy's shoulder that sits next to him to connect the two right–wing groups, and between the two groups on the left, they were making eye contacts. As we all know, color is the voice for the artist 's sentiment. It makes up the appearance of a picture. Color is the decisive factor in depths of the two–dimensional plane of the artwork, making the viewer feel physically and mentally attracted, or the context of things – the phenomenon the author wants to present. Colors have been around for a long time, but there is not a common definition for colors. And perhaps humans are one of the luckiest creatures that can identify colors. Often, the recipient 's eye knows a myriad of colors and colors that always change based on the relationship between light and perspective. In art, color creates a sense of ... • 40. Jesus's Last Supper A Tale of Two Last Suppers Jesus's Last Supper, as detailed in the Gospels, was vital to the story of Christ. At this supper, there was a major development – one that would shape Jesus's life and shape Christianity itself. It is at this final supper where Jesus announces to all of his apostles that one of them will betray him. This is, of course, in reference to Judas, who would turn Jesus into the authorities in return for a reward. The apostles were shocked and confused. This major development is at the core mythology of Christianity, and it is why the Last Supper has been so frequently painted by artists throughout the centuries. Two of the most famous paintings of the Last Supper are by Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Castagno.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is naturally one of the first things that we see when we look at the different renditions of the famous scene, and this makes sense. Typically, Jesus is in the middle of the painting, while flanked by the 12 apostles on either side of him. Naturally, then, our eyes will focus on the center of the painting – Jesus. However, in Castagno's painting, Jesus is not quite at the center of the painting, as pointed out by Joseph Polzer (15). He notes that John's body and not Christ's is the one that connects with the center of the painting. John's head is face down on the table, leaned toward Jesus (15–16). While John is at the exact center of the painting, Jesus has the same number of people on either side of him. Polzer points out that Judas' dark head is vertically above every other character in the painting, including Christ (16). Polzer argues that this is meant to emphasize the role of evil in humanity (16). The composition of Castagno's work was also unique in how he used contrast throughout the painting. He was one of the pioneers of using contrasting light to further amplify the drama of "mighty" events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
