The Genre that I will base my music magazine of
will be as shown above, ‘Hip Hop’ as this is the
type of music I am interested in the most. I can
relate to this type of music as it is urban just like
me, I have lived up with this kind of music
throughout my life so it would be more suitable if
I choose this genre for my initial magazine.

Hip Hop is a subculture that originated from the
fusion of African American and Latino American
communities during the 1970s, in New York City,
specifically within the Bronx. While the term is
often used to refer to hip hop music, in its
broader sense hip hop culture is characterized by
the four elements of rapping, DJing, breaking and
graffiti.

Why they listen to hip hop – they listen to it
as it reflects the black prospective of life; it
deals with problems and aspects which the
audience can relate to. It also gives them
hope into achieving more in life.
                                                                                              music magazine preferences
How often – they listen to the music very Clothes:
likes music magazines that look quite
frequently, as it can be away to relax them. Likes to keep up to date with the style.
attractive and eye catching, he prefers it
                                                   Likes wearing baseball caps
What they would like in magazines – they Likes wearing loose clothes as they
to be very masculine and include many
would the magazines to contain current artist images of different artists.
feel more comfortable and relate to
Also would like the latest news, trends,
who refer to the genre, interviews, latest his favorite music artist
and gigs, very bold and bright colors.
news of the stars, gigs and current trends.
As you can see straight away the front cover
image is of a black artist which is the
stereotype hip hop rappers, in this case the
social group who would mainly be black afro
Caribbean's (others will vary) can relate to this.
There is also his style in which he is wearing
earphones to represent music and his pose
makes him look ‘cool’. Another thing is his age,
he looks quite young, the artist is 17 years old
as the social group are near the same age as
well since hip hop is a young genre just like its
fans. So the artist himself represents the social
group’s age, dress code, ethnicity, etc.

Another way in which the front cover
represents my social group is through the cover
lines such as ‘2 Pac’, ‘black power’. These are all
topics which my social group would be typically
interested in.
The main way my contents page
represents my social group is through the
main image. In this case I decided to go
with a female artist so I can represent the
females in my social group as well, this
way both females and males can refer to
my magazine. Her style in clothes also
conveys to my social group – very stylish,
etc. They can relate to her dress
code/style therefore finding the magazine
very interesting.
In my article, its an
interview about the hip
hop artist shown in the
front cover, he already
represents my social
group therefore they can
refer and appeal to what
he is saying.

The colours used are very
masculine, aggressive but
also eye catching just like
my social group so they
can relate to this as well
as finding it appealing.
