"EDM is a $7B Industry, but how did Electronic Dance Music Get So Popular?"
For those whom are interested in music and want to know what kind of music most teenagers
around the world are listening to, this article written by EDM Ranks can be absorbing. The article
"How Did Electronic Dance Music Get So Popular" informs people and gives an idea of how it all
started. A lot of things in life has its story and some people, mostly teenagers can be interested in
learning a little of the background of the music they listen to. Music and its popularity change every
year. There are more fans of the genre Rap in one year, and for the next year more Rock fans can be
found. People like to sing and most of them dream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article does not specify how and where EDM started exactly, but it is giving a theory that it
might have started in Germany, London or in Chicago and Detroit. Little by little, Electronic Dance
Music is becoming a new trend and many festivals have been created. EDM Rank is being clear and
tells the reader how EDM has grown and how it is becoming important for those music lovers.
Percentages of its success over the last couple of years are given, as well as information on how
much money famous DJs make in a year. "Artists have produced a combined $268 million this year,
That's 11% more than 2013". It is said that electronic music is making a big impact in today's
society, those electronic tracks have started to break records and by the looks of it, it will still be
rising. Nowadays, Social media helps to make things popular, Facebook, Twitter, and Spotify have a
special role for EDM because people have more access to music. "EDM is a $6.2 billion global
industry. Very well close to 7–billion–dollar mark" By giving all those percentages, amounts of
money that DJs have earned and told the ways EDM is getting popular, EDM Rank have given
accurate information and somewhat sufficient evidence of how EDM is getting

Essay On Youtube
If someone had told me five years ago that I would be a YouTube junkie and Facebook addict, I
would have told them they were insane! I mean, YouTube used to be mostly used only by people
posting embarrassing family videos, as well as by wannabe singers and musicians, posting their
latest accomplishments in the far–fetched hope of being discovered. There was absolutely nothing
about it that interested me. Similarly, while originally created as a study tool for college students,
Facebook has morphed into the largest and most influential social media tool in the world; but at 12
years old, I did not want to be "friends" with adults – especially my parents! Shortly thereafter, I
was required to create a Facebook account for marching band and ... Show more content on

As time passed, the academic demands and expectations of my curriculum intensified, and, so, too,
did my anxiety, .
I am not ashamed to admit using YouTube for entirely mindless entertainment, specifically for
watching a popular video game blogger named Markiplier. In addition to video game blogging,
Markiplier creates "Try Not To Laugh" videos, which are compilations of funny videos intended to
make the viewer laugh – while Markiplier tries not to laugh. It is understandable that some, may
find this to be a huge waste of time, but the videos have consistently made me laugh, which has
been especially useful in relieving stress and tension brought on by my anxiety.
The multiple clubs and organizations to which I belong have been a blessing and a curse, because
while they have provided untold opportunities for extracurricular growth, they have also been
responsible for the elimination of all free time.. I originally began using Facebook as a
communication and organizational tool for my extracurricular groups – especially marching band
and orchestra. It is an easy and efficient way for staff members and student leaders to post
information and updates to members of the group. Facebook also allows me to easily communicate
with friends and family, especially those in distant states (such as California) or in other countries
(such as our student exchange "sister" in Seville, Spain, and my sister's boyfriend and

The Electronic Dance Music Culture
"The first time when on the radio I listened to the remixed song Why Don't You?, I was quite of
surprised how DJ accessed to musical material from the past. The song affected me with a sense of
the past although it was skilfully woven and shaped into a new, very danceable sound of electronic
music" described Irina Cvijanović. (Cvijanovic) Electronic dance music, or better known as "edm",
has completely changed the music industry. Edm has now taken over radio and the mainstream, and
has become one of the main aspects of popular culture. (Tankel) The rise and popularity of edm
comes from it's unique and innovative sound that is based heavily on the idea of musical remixing
and the blending of genres. Bedroom producers have taken over the music industry by incorporating
old songs into brand new unique remixes that are being played and enjoyed all around the world.
(Väkevä) This electronic dance music culture has become one of the most popular and profitable
events in the United States, and they are only getting bigger and better. An important pioneer and
well recognized figure in this industry is Thomas Wesley Pentz or professionally known as "Diplo".
Diplo has not only become one of the world's most popular DJ's, but is known worldwide for his
hybridization of musical genres. Diplo was one of the first producers to incorporate dancehall and
reggaeton into popular music, and with his Top 40 charting tracks Lean on and Where Are U Now,
has become a key innovator in popular

The Music Of Electronic Dance Music
Tracing as far back as the 1940s when sound pioneers began their own movement known as
musique concrete, sampling, evolved from simple sound collage. Now it has evolved to the act of
taking a portion of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or sound recording in a
different song or piece. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples
often consist of one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat
for another song.
The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or
from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting
popular in hip–hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to
receive copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs were
experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time and
manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and picking
up on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock, contemporary
R&B, and industrial music.
The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of a
button, making sampling simpler. Typical sample instruments consist of grand pianos, pipe organs,
violins, cellos, wind and percussion instruments. This can include voices and non–traditional

Electronic Distribution And The Music Industry
Millions of Dollars are spent in the music industry everyday. Thousands of songs are being played
everyday in different parts of the world whether be on your phone, computer, TV, or radio. Behind
every song there is a lot of money, work and a marketing strategy. Strategies that have changed
throughout time because of the increasing advances in technology.
One of those technologies is the change of songs unto a digital format and online streaming against
the classical CD by CD sell and distributions technique. These changes created a huge change in the
music market. Are those changes in digital distributions and online streaming truly benefiting the
music industry and the Artists? Or is one swindling the other?"
This leads us to another issue that affects the music companies and record labels which is the
copyright infractions occasioned by the new access to digital material. The illegal practice of
copying music and sharing it has caused many problems to the music industry and artist not only for
the money aspect on side of the record labels but also to the musicians who spend many hours
composing to create a master piece and then these are download for free and re–distributed illegally
by web sites and apps such as LimeWire, Ares, BitTorrent, and many others.
Alan Greenblatt mentioned in his article "Future of the Music Industry", computer users illegally

The First Sfx Entertainment Was Formed By Robert F. X
History The first SFX Entertainment was formed by Robert F. X. Sillerman in the 1990s. Its
business model surrounded the acquisition and consolidation of regional concert promoters into a
single national entity. In 2000, Sillerman sold the company to the radio broadcasting company Clear
Channel Communications for $4.4 billion USD, which spun off in 2005 to form Live Nation, and
merged with Ticketmaster in 2009 to form Live Nation Entertainment. In June 2012, Sillerman
publicized his intent to focus on the growing electronic dance music market by reviving the SFX
brand to form a new conglomerate in the electronic music industry. Similarly to the past incarnation
of SFX, the company 's business model focuses on the consolidation and acquisition of independent
EDM promoters, along with an additional focus on providing digital platforms for fans to connect.
Sillerman expected to spend close to $1 billion on acquisitions within the first year of operations
alone. In June 2013, SFX announced an IPO and began trading on the NASDAQ. Following its IPO,
SFX also acquired companies more digital properties and promoters, but the stock price kept going
down due to the lack of income. On February, 2015, Sillerman announced a proposal to buy out
SFX 's public stock at $4.75 per–share to take the company private, and support exploring a
potential sale. By August 2015, the value of SFX stock had decreased considerably, going as low as
91 cents per–share. On August 14, 2015, the company

Electronic And Electronically- Altered Music
For this journal I found a playlist on the new sounds website, called Electronic and Electronically–
Altered Music. This was program number 3797 and it first aired on November 12, 2015. The artists
in this program all focused on creating intricate phrasing while using electronic sounds. The first
song I listened to was called Labyrinth VII by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. This song was written on the
Buchla Music Easel synthesizer. I have never heard of this instrument before and had to do some
research to find out exactly what it does. This instrument is a type of digital music system that you
can create different sounds from other types of electronic instruments and put them together. On this
system you can also change the pitch, vibrato, tempo, and notation of the sounds. This specific
synthesizer was created in 1963 by Don Buchla.
The piece started with a section of a scale that repeated for a couple of measures. The sound had the
same timbre of a xylophone. As the opening continued one note from the scale was taken out each
time it repeated. Creating rests within the phrasing and allowed the under tone noises to be heard of
another phrase. It was clear that this piece of music was in a 4/4. Right away, I was thinking about
how the musicians know what sound good, and how they know what will work when they are
playing this instrument. There are so many controls and options so it seems like it can be easy to
create music that does not flow well. I enjoyed the repetition in this

Technology In Electronic Music In The 20th And 21st Century
Discuss the development of musical form and its relation to technology in electronic music in the
20th and 21st centuries. Music has evolved a lot since when it was only orchestral and vocal, but in
the past 100 odd years music has really moved on. It has particularly been shaped by technology as
it grew more and more advanced. The most recent years of music have made a turn for, what some
people would say, the worse, but most people don't care about the reasons which I will mention
below and can still appreciate the music. This essay is going to cover what technology has done to
music and how it has created more freedom for most people when making music. "Evidence of
Egyptian musical instruments dates to the Predynastic period"[1], which is the late stone age, made
and presumably played by prehistoric people. They're most commonly discovered in the Swabian
Alb region of Germany. These are known as the earliest musical instruments which proves there was
prehistoric music, however nobody alive knows what it sounds like because it was never possible to
record sound back then. In prehistoric Egypt they invented whistles made out of shells. Clappers
were also found by archeologists. A clapper is a basic form of a percussion instrument. It consists of
two long solid pieces that are clapped together producing sound. Evidence of lyres and lutes and
metal cymbals were found. In Ancient Greece many other instruments were invented and we have
evidence of this. Over a huge amount

Apple, Inc., The Electronics And Beats Music
Apple acquires Beats. Apple, Inc., the electronics giant, has acquired Beats Music and Beats
Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough money to buy or build any
company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats
Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company "could
build about anything that you could dream of," adding that acquiring Beats would give them a "head
start" and add "kindred spirits" to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience
that both Dr. Dre, a well–known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the
Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip–
hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats
Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer
market for high–end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service.
The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards
streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads –– which iTunes dominates ––
dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of Pandora
and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of
America (CBS News/AP, 2014).

The Origins and Developments of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and Contemporary Nightlife
Musical Culture
The origins and developments of Electronic Dance Music initially started with the development of
the synthesizer. It was with these first uses of synthesized sounds that prompted the development of
sequencers, sampling, effects processing, musical instrument digital interface (MIDI), use of
computer technology, hard disk recording systems and modern day virtual studio technology
(VST's). These all fundamentally build the genre of electronic music, as we know it today. The
development of this new technology brought many new genres to music, mostly popular, Electronic
Dance Music being one of these.
The Moog Synthesizer was the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time, British inventor, Peter Zinovieff and American Composer, Raymond Scott were both
looking into basic electronic sequencing, however it was Buchla that had the initial breakthrough.
Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and
Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant that
artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for
sequencing. Buchla said," you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for
each interval. So that required, of course, a voltage–controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a
bunch of other ideas" (Pinch, 2004, p.40).
It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to
look at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic instrument,
and instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed duophony possible
on synthesizers. The APR odyssey mk I was released in 1972, and was an aesthetically pleasing
duophonic synthesizer, making it easy for a performer to tweak the parameters of the synthesized
sound with sliders. By the mid 1970's, well–known companies like Sequential Circuits and Yamaha
had developed more advanced keyboard matrices, allowing polyphony to be introduced to the
electronic music scene. One

Epicureanism Reflection
After class discussions, have you had any realizations or made any changes in regard to the
philosophies that influences your decisions, actions, or preferences? Has your level of conscious
choice to these philosophies changed? Why or why not?
Answer:
Before Humanities 210, my processes for decision–making and preference development were based
on more mental pleasure than physical pleasure. Happiness was the ideal feeling and I would try to
feel happy as long as possible. Having wonderful relationships with family and friends, making wise
decisions, and thinking of ways to improve life were the most important goals to achieve happiness.
However, when moments of extreme happiness emerged, great sadness followed. Although it was
unclear at the time, I was following the concepts of Epicureanism. Richard Paul Janaro and Thelma
C. Altshuler, authors of The Art of Being Human: The Humanities as a Technique for Living, say
that Epicureanism believes "complete happiness is a moderate amount of pleasure with freedom
from pain" (338). Thus, I realized moderation of pleasure regulates feelings of sadness. My belief in
Epicureanism developed as I recalled periods of suffering and realized I became happy as the
suffering subsided. Regarding religion, my parents and grandmother practice Buddhism, but they
never forced it on me and my sisters so the religion is not as familiar. However, learning about
Buddhism was interesting as it is applicable to everyday life. One salient

F-A-C-Electronic Music Research Paper
Teaching a children's choir requires a careful selection of music and educating the kids about music
notation. Kids need to have a basic understanding of note values and pitches and how to interpret
them into musical sounds. By teaching them how to read music first, future choir rehearsals will be
more productive. Many children's choir instructors will incorrectly assume that it takes too long to
teach a child how to read music. The reality is that by teaching these basics first it will allow the
choir to sing much more effectively in the future.
Step 1: Begin by teaching the children how to read rhythm aurally. Teach them only the most basic
rhythms: whole notes, half notes and quarter notes. Start a metronome and have them clap on each

half notes once they understand the quarter note, and finally, use whole notes. Make sure to teach
them about rests as well.
Step 3: Start teaching the children about pitch notation after the first week. Since they are children,
all of them will sing in the treble clef. Have them remember the spaces on the staff by using the
following trick: "If you look between the lines, you see your FACE." Explain that the spaces spell
the word F – A – C – E.
Step 4: Teach the names of the lines of the treble clef by using an acronym. A good acronym to use
is "Every Good Boy Does Fine." The first letter of each word is the name of a line.
Step 5: Explain that the correct way to breathe is through the diaphragm and that the children should
never force a note that is too high. If a child is having trouble singing a part, give them a higher or
lower part to sing.
Step 6: Perform musical scales with them. Start with major scales. Pass out sheet music that lists the
scales and have the children sing each pitch on a whole note. Practice the major scale until they can
sing it without the use of a

I believe that the impact generated by this element towards the entertainment industry is significant,
principally in music. As people may have witnessed, the music industry has been a direct victim of
the digital era and piracy, leaving many questions about what might happen and forcing industry
experts, labels, artists and entrepreneurs to re–think their marketing strategies and re–invent
themselves. As a result, Streaming services like Pandora, Apple ITunes Match or Spotify came to
the world as several options for music consumption, yet I believe they are artist–unfriendly,
especially for emerging acts. When a user wants to subscribe into any of these services, they are

Electronic Music And Its Effect On Human Behavior
Human Elements
There is an increasing mutual exchange as the synthetic and the human–made equally invades what
we once thought of as natural. In electronic music, the human element that people input in their
work is crucial to say the least. People provide the unpredictable pieces in their work to make it
stand out from the rest. Most robotic or technologic generated music often is in the form of a
pattern. Without human interface, electronic music, for the most part, is predictable. When
electronic music is played without the human element, a sense of something that is missing usually
occurs. Today, technological advances allow electronics to replace most of the human interactions.
Now technology can mimic the sounds of non–electronic instruments. Instruments such as the flute,
violin, and guitar are just some of these mimicked sounds that could be replaced. In this "genre" the
human body is often held as a relatable tool. The audience notices the human element and realizes
that they can create such works as well. Electronic music to some may feel that it is missing the
human component in the normalized concept of seeing the artist. However, when developing the art
itself, electronic music, whether it be in live performances, editing the material, or commercializing
the music for use, the human element is still very prominent. The human component is implicated in
music directly or indirectly.
The idea of any "live music" is hard to define, but there stubbornly remains much

Invention Of Electronic Music
One of the largest contributors to electronic music today is Thaddeus Cahill (Lejaren Hiller,
Electronic Music). His telharmonium was created with an assembly of rotary generators and
telephone receivers to convert electronic signals to into sound (Lejaren Hiller). He developed his
invention from 1895 and continued to work on it even though there were no ways for the sounds
being created from the electrical signals to be heard. Speakers or amplifiers were non–existent for
some time even after the development of Cahill's invention, and "his instrument was the ancestor of
present–day electronic music synthesizers" (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). Furthermore, Cahill's
invention spurred the development of other electric instruments such as the electronic organ. In the
1920s, more electronic instruments were invented, some of which being monophonic meaning that
only one note could be played at a time (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). One of the more
common monophonic electric instruments was the theremin invented by Russian scientist Leon
Theremin (Britannica, Theremin Musical Instrument). The theremin produces sine waves and is a"
box with radio tubes producing oscillation at two sound wave frequencies above the range of
hearing; together they produce a lower audible frequency equal to the difference in their rates of
vibration (Britannica, Theremin Musical Instrument)". By moving one's hand or a wand in front of
the antennas, one could control the pitch played by the

Raves and Ecstasy Rave. What does one think of the word rave? Does ranting and raving come to
mind as a way of communication or does flashing lights, dance music, and the use of drugs come to
mind? If the youth of society were to be asked this question, every single of one of them would refer
the word rave as a party filled with dance music and ecstasy. This youth movement has evolved into
an electronic music subculture known as rave (Morris 1). A subculture is a separate world within the
larger dominant culture that has the same values of the dominant culture but is different enough to
be classified as a subculture (Henslin 46). The rave subculture can be also be classified as ... Show

They will arrest and criminally prosecute rave promoters and mangers for ultimately making raves
readily available for the use of ecstasy (Karden 99). Rave promoters and managers are also at blame
for making the rave environment suitable for ecstasy users by selling things like pacifiers, light
sticks, and Vicks vapor rub (Kraden 99). Ecstasy users use these types of things to enhance their
high throughout the night. Rave promotors are well aware that pacifiers signify ecstasy use at a rave
and these promotors are going to be the ones at fault for providing a space knowing ecstasy use will
occur. The rave culture is the product of ecstasy. The reasoning behind all the norms of this
counterculture is ecstasy. Even if some rave goers are not using ecstasy, the environment at a rave
that results from ecstasy use can be jus as much considered deviant as actually taking ecstasy
(Tackaberry 1). Although ecstasy produces a congenial and compassionate state of mind, it also
causes a a heightened sense of sexual pleasure (Hess). Therefore, the user might be willing to get
intimate with anyone, girl or guy. According to society, having sexual intercourse with out love is
considered deviant and it is considered even more deviant to partake in same sex intercourse. At a
rave many delinquents can be seen partaking in sexual acts on the dance floor, in the bathrooms, or
even in corners. Another act of deviance that can be witnessed at a rave is nudity.

The Music And Its Influence On Society
To go against the "norm" at a rave is to go against the spirit of the music. The music itself inspires
everything that rave culture is. EDM focuses on the use of rhythm, an upbeat sound, and bass to
enable the listener to "feel" the music and have their body move to the beat. Slowly the music builds
up and then it drops, leaving the crowd reacting wildly to the change in beat and pace. Many people
view EDM as just being sound .The "club culture" or "subculture" of rave culture may influence
how people act in society and the values they carry, the people who do attend rave culture share
common traits. Professor Roman Horak from the University of Vienna comments on the similarities
amongst raves. Many of these people dress similarly, listen to the same music, visit similar places
(shops, locations, etc.), and even buy the same products all because they take part in this specific
"club culture" (Horak, 262). A raver from India and a raver from the United States may be
drastically different in how they grew up and the media they consume, but they share common traits
that are found with all ravers: the desire to be free and able to express who they are. At its core, this
music promotes freedom. Professor Horak views music as "an omnipresent aesthetic phenomenon
and an instrument for social and cultural exclusion and inclusion" (Horak, 265). Raves allows ravers
to bridge the traditional social confines (sex, race, class, wealth) that are set established by society
by providing a

Speech On Electronic Music
Electronic music is in most of the music that we hear today, and it's good. We hear it in cafes,
restaurants, clubs and even elevators. It's all over us and it surrounds us even if we don't realize it. It
is true that life performances is a really good way to communicate with music. Many people fall in
love with music because they can communicate anything with music, even sometimes without
words. Communication is the most important thing in music, and performing really helps
communicate the way you want. But knowing how to write electronic music will put you one or
many steps ahead of the curve. This knowledge will increase the output points with which you could
communicate your ideas. Because there is so much competition in the art world, it's really good to

You might not realize it but this is true. It is also true that singers use their voice in order to perform

bad when they are freshly recorded. Even if you record it with the most expensive microphone, you
would still end up with a recording that doesn't sound like most of the hits you hear on the radio or
any other platform. This is because your recording is not what is called "processed" with modern
audio tools. There are many tools that will greatly improve the sound of your song. It's generally
really good to know the basics of these tools. This knowledge would be good for any work with any
audio. For example you could use this knowledge to fix the audio in a film or a small video that you
made. It's doesn't take a long time to comprehend these basic tools. They will allow you to increase
the quality of any audio that you are working

Edm Culture
Yet the culture of college campuses throughout the country say otherwise to the accepting and
carefree domain that Coachella coincides with. The reason behind this stark difference in culture can
be derived from the need to have things or to be politically correct on these campuses. As this is a
drastic contradiction to Coachella and the dress at the festival that promotes one's own self ideals
and being, college campuses have become places of safe havens where the freedom of thought is not
always welcomed or received with respect. Valerie Strauss, who is an education writer for the
Washington Post, even said in article that "[she] agrees wholeheartedly with the argument that

While cultures cannot only be defined or understood with a single definition, certain cases allow us
to seek insight into pieces of what culture truly is and what it actually means in the bigger scheme. A
case such as Coachella allows us to explore how a society that is so broadly complex and interlaced
together, can be broken down into small little cases and complexities that tell us more about the
unity, beliefs, customs, and principles of the people within the United States and the world. Because
Coachella brings together such a mix of people throughout the world, not from just around Los
Angeles, a mix of music throughout the world, and a mix of different clothing styles, it gives us a
sense of how the globalization machine runs on a much larger scale. From EDM music and its
culture originating in the United Kingdom to the blending of bohemian style clothes, Coachella tells
us that culture is moving in a progressive manner towards a society, and a world, where it is okay to
be a free–thinker and different from the societal norms largely due to the fact that accepting one's
self and others as is, is a central figure throughout culture as a whole. Like Dr. Douglas Born said

Electronic Dance Music Analysis
Joo developed an early interest in music shortly after her mother put her through piano lessons at the
age of 5. She started performing vocally since elementary school and continued to hone her skills
throughout high school. As a sophomore in high school, she advanced from an intermediate choir
group to the chamber choir group within one semester. During her junior year of high school, she
sang the National Anthem in before her high school football games.
During that time period, she developed an interest in techno and electronic music. Growing up, she
listened to major Electronic Dance Music producers such as Crystal Method, Darue and Tiesto. At
the age of 18 years old, she watched her first EDM performance with Pretty Lights at the King Plow
Arts Center in 2009. That moment, she fell deeper in love with the production and performance side
of Electronic Dance Music. She was deeply intrigued by how the various technological sounds and
lights can work in conjunction to create a unique blend of set performance.
After high school, she got accepted to the University of Georgia. Like many college students, she
was indecisive about her future and career. But she always knew ... Show more content on

Drug And Music : The Effects Of Electronic Drugs And Drugs
Drugs and music have been closely tied together throughout much of history, with each particular
genre typically having a drug closely associated with it. For jazz music, we have musicians such as
Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk of the 1940s who brought upon the glorification of opium with
their music. Fast forward to the 60s when the rise of psychedelic rock bands such as The Grateful
Dead, The Doors, The Beatles and Pink Floyd attempted to replicate the effects of LSD within their
music. In the 80s, cocaine was linked to popular glam metal bands such as Van Halen and Motley
Crue. As the late 80s and early 90s came around, it was ecstasy's turn to take the spotlight. Techno,
House, Acid House, and rave culture were starting to burst into popularity within the underground
music scenes of Detroit, Chicago, and in various places within Europe. These DJs such as Nicky
Halloway and Phil Hartnoll, like the musicians of the past, were well aware of the rampant ecstasy
use at their performances and their music was often influenced by said drug use. However, what
they may not have been aware of was the sheer dependence of ecstasy on the music and the music
on ecstasy. Unlike times past where the music and the drug would have a seemingly superficial
bond, ecstasy and electronic dance music's bond extends far beyond any superficial barrier. Without
ecstasy, there would be no electronic dance music, no raves, and no PLUR (Peace. Love. Unity.
Respect) culture. Likewise, without

Electronic Music In The 1960s Essay
Before the 1960s, music was primarily listened to, not dance to. However, there was a dance craze
during the sixties due to the rock and roll influence, thus dance moves such as "The Twist," "The
Mashed Potato," and "The Swim" were created. In the late 1966s, the Theremin was used in the
number one trending song, "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys and also in the famous Star Trek
theme song. The Theremin was an instrument that produces sound when the musician moved their
hand by each antenna. Synthesizers are electronic instruments that is able to produce a variety of
sounds which are then transmitted to loud speakers. Though the synthesizer was used before the
Theremin, it was not common due to its bulky size. However, in the 1970s, the ... Show more

As mentioned before, the synthesizer was not commonly used in the 1960s but by 1970 the use of
synthesizers hit the scene, and many music group used it such as Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk, a German
experimental rock group, has the most influence on EDM as they are the group who is considered to
perfect electronic music and is the first fully electronic artists. Donna Summer's "I Feel Love"also
played a part in electronic music as it was one of the first records to utilize the potential of
electronics. Another contributor to the rise of EDM was at the dance scene: the clubs and the disc
jockeys. The Warehouse, a club in Chicago, was one of the two major club to help EDM's start, and
the dominant DJ in this club was Frankie Knuckles, the "Father of Chicago House." Paradise
Garage, a club in New York City, keep disco alive and started a new genre called "Garage House"
which was a subgenre of electronic music created by the main DJ in this club is Larry Levan. From
the 1980s to the present, EDM rests in the DJ's spinning and the clubs. Since the disco craze was
dying down with Disco Demolition Night, DJs struggled to make money, so they tried to make new
spinning techniques and make their records sound different. This struggle gave birth to many genres

Porter Robinson And Madeon Concert Report
On November 16th, I attended a Porter Robinson and Madeon concert at Echostage in Washington
D.C. Porter Robinson and Madeon are both electro house, dubstep, synthpop, and EDM (Electronic
Dance Music) music DJ's, who have decided to collaborate and tour together. Doors opened for the
concert at 9 PM, with DJ's Robotaki (Ro–bo–ta–key) and Danger opening for them. Robotaki
focused more on house music, while Danger was more heavy drum and bass electronic music.
Although, the opening DJ's varied in their style of music, they helped to set the mood and prepare
the crowd for the main event.
The concert began with Porter Robinson and Madeon performing live their hit song, Shelter.
Together they played the drums, remixed the set, and worked together ... Show more content on

A common theme throughout the show was the use of "the Wall of Sound," where many different
instruments and beats were being played simultaneously. This made the entire room fill with sound,
making it almost impossible to distinguish between the multiple layers of beats hitting you.
Although, this may have been true for much of the concert, the DJ's also incorporated the concepts
of minimalism into their work, by using very few instruments: drums, piano, a synthesizer, and
turntables. The tempo of the songs varied greatly throughout their performance, with some songs
being slowed down to incorporate new, unique sounds, and others being sped up to introduce the
next track. The canons of the songs vary greatly, with some sets of songs sounding very similar to
each other, then it will become quiet, and then the canon will change again as the concert progresses
into its next stages. Repetition also plays a major role in Porter Robinson and Madeon's music,
creating a steady beat that's easy to move to, with the rest of the song never deviating greatly from
the original beat. A great example of this is Porter Robinsons song, Divinity, where the initial beat
sets the theme for the rest of the song. In every song the musical elements build upon each other.
For example, in their song, Shelter, it starts with a beat and an electronic voice speaking. As the
song progresses these elements still exist, but other beats and sounds are

An incident that occurred in Randall Island, Manhattan is evidence of the danger substance abuse
can have. A handful of rave–goers of the popular Electric Zoo event were struck ill from the abuse
of ecstasy (MDMA, or Molly) and a number of them passed (Yee, par. 1). At the time it was
probably no big deal to see minor amount of people fall ill, but the use of recreational drugs ended
up hurting a lot people. People may use Molly occasionally just for the sake of a great rave
experience and may not have any troubles with their use, but some unfortunate souls may have an
experience on the opposite side of the spectrum. It is ironic how the same drug that can give a
person the greatest experience of their life can be the same drug that gives another person the worst
experience of their life. The fact that ecstasy is considered safe, along with its relaxing effects, is a
big factor in as to why EDM fans use it. However it can be extremely dangerous in a rave scenario
with plenty of vigorous activity going on. Many single mindedly think of the experience they could
have using ecstasy rather than the threat it possess to one's health. Unknowing rave–goers wander
around raves and get themselves into trouble everywhere. It is not just Randall City that has suffered
losses. At the venue Cow Palace in Daly City a similar incident with a similar outcome has caused a

Russolo Research Paper
Music has been around for a long time, and no one is really sure when it was invented; music has
always seemed to just be. But, since music has been given rules and explored as an art form, it has
been innovated and changed in ways that changed it forever. The invention and of electricity and
machines changed the way that music was approached, as much as exploring what a chord is.
Electricity also brought about a new, interesting genre of music; electronic music, which is any type
of music that is produced by a machine. By this definition, any sound that is run through a computer
or other machine is defined as electronic music if it was originally composed by that medium. The
development of this art form was interesting, as there were many ... Show more content on

They were "...a series of new instruments called intonarumori ('noise intoners'), divisible into six
timbral types: 'booms, whistles, whispers, screams, percussive sounds and vocal sounds (human and

variation of that speed was what made the tone and pitch of the sound change. Russolo created
several compositions for his instruments, which were received critically by the public. Although the
ideals of Russolo were very influential, neither his musical scores nor his intonarumori survived,
which means the assumption can be made that neither were of great interest to the musical world
(Morgan 116–117). Although Futurism did have a lasting impact in the world, as detailed in an
article about Russolo and his instruments, "[y]et Futurism stands in the history of twentieth–century
music as the first clear manifestation of a major and enduring concern: the relationship between new
music and modern technology. Although the Futurists apparently had no direct influence on
subsequent compositional developments, their wish 'to conquer the infinite variety of noise–sound'
has remained a reoccurring interest throughout the century" (Morgan 117). Russolo's idea of
combining noise into music was absolutely pivotal to the development of electronic music,

Technology In Music : Acoustic Vs. Electronic Music
Technology and music have always had a connection; a marriage. As one progresses, the other
progresses. What some people do not understand or do not think about, is the little differences
between the acoustic and the electric instruments. A person might pick one over the other without
having a full understanding of how that instrument works. Acoustic instruments are softer, less
perfected while electronic instruments can be manipulated and are manufactured in a way that
creates the "perfect" tone. These manufactured sounds are what created one of today's top genres in
music: Electronic Dance Music (EDM). There are also lots of ways that consumers themselves can
create their own music. There are numerous types of keyboards, microphones, and other recording
devices that can help digitize sounds. Technology is intertwined with music and in everyday life.
These technology and music industries are only just starting to break the surface of what people are
capable of creating and how.

Music Music is defined as, "vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to

Herbert Eimert stated in his classification of notes, "the pure tone (sine–wave tone), free of
overtones, which never appears in traditional music (or nature). It issues from the electronic
production of sound. The sinusoidal tone system must therefore simply be a system of virtual
relationship, from which a composer can create structures in the form of series, relationships, rows
and other forms of organization" (P.122 Karl H. Worner, 1973). Stockhausen's first electronic
compositions, Studie 1 (1953) being the first piece to be composed primarily with sinusoidal waves,
utilizing an sine–wave generator he was able to construct complex timbres in mathematical series
(the influence of integral serialism can be seen most here). This early experiment of what we now
know as, additive synthesis was extremely influential to electronic and synthesized music. Studie 2
(1954) was very similar but the spectra of pure tones were radiated into a resonance chamber and
re–recorded. The original sine waves were distorted to generate a similarity to noise occurrences.
The piece Gesang der junglinge (1955) was the first piece to combine music concrete with
electronic music. Stockhausen practised in this what we now would consider, subtractive synthesis.
With the use of noise generators a full frequency spectrum can be achieved, for example white
noise. The frequency bands can be filtered to produce a single band of frequency or even a

Music has always been seen as a way of entertainment. Throughout many eras musicians have kept
their ways to their traditions. From instrumentation to the composition itself. Throughout the ages,
music has mostly been a set in stone factor. But since the 20th century things have begun to change.
Musicians are breaking away from the traditions of the past and reaching new areas of music.

With his developments, the music world has heard a new sound. One of his major creations in music
is in fact a wire recorder. This machine may not seem like much but it has been able record then
playback music in your own home without the instruments themselves. This has truly become a
great breakthrough instead of needing a musician in the household to keep smaller gatherings
entertained. Now they can be entertained with only themselves. As said by brindle: "(One of the first
electronic music compositions – John Cage's Imaginary Landscape No. 1 (1939) – had oscillator
frequencies recorded on two 78 r.p.m. gramophone records, but normally such a system was too
expensive and inflexible to be practicable.) It took a world war to produce what was almost the right
instrument – the wire recorder – which was later replaced by the tape recorder, so manipulated,
made permanent, or discarded, with incredible ease and at negligible cost. Once the tape recorder
was perfected (about 1950), and its potentialities fully realized, other electronic sound equipment
(either already existing or suitably modified) could be assembled to form the first electronic music
studio" (99, Brindle). This development of the Wire recorder has lead to such great historical
developments. From the wire recorder lead to the tape recorder and soon music was able to be taken
anywhere anyone wished it to be. The development of the wire recorder was originally made by

Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, my audience will have a better understanding of EDM
culture.
Thesis Statement: Electronic Dance Music is more than just bops and scratching sounds; it's a way
of life.
Introduction: (Play YouTube video from 1:38 – 1:58). What you just heard were the sounds of
EDM. EDM stands for electronic dance music. Also you saw first–hand the inside of a rave called
Electric Daisy Carnival (a Las Vegas event famous for 'finding yourself under the electric sky').

free environment. Today, I am going to explain the history behind the top 3 most popular genres of
EDM, and the meaning behind rave culture.
I. The different types of EDM I will be talking about is Dubstep, House, and Trap A. The first genre
of music I will be talking about is Dubstep. 1. Dubstep originated in South London, and traced back

clubs. This genre was taboo to most people. 2. Dubstep was made popular in the United States by an

classified as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum
patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals" (Bush 2012). (Insert sound clip here) B. The
second genre of music I will be talking about is House. 1. The origination of house music in the
United States began in Chicago's Southside in 1977. a. A new type of club created, given the name
'The Warehouse.' 2. Frankie Knuckles is, "The Godfather of House." 3. Early DJ techniques seen in
the "The Warehouse" 4. House music was generally characterized by "repetitive 4/4 beats, rhythms
mainly provided by drum machines, off–beat hi–hat cymbals, and synthesized baselines" (Cambell

Poor blacks could also afford the phonograph, and in their minds it was a way to try and achieve
equalities among whites by listening and learning their culture. Repeatability was believed to serve
two main functions: to single out the good music versus the bad and to help listeners to appreciate
the art of the classics. Due to the fact that recording music had a maximum of three to four minutes,
Musicians had to drastically cut the time of their music to make more money. The phonograph was
later called a gramophone and then it was known as the wax cylinder. The phonograph went out of
"style" when the FM radio was invented and spread throughout American homes.
In 1933, what thought to be just a dream, becomes a reality. Edwin Armstrong invented the FM
radio, the first system to ever broadcast wirelessly was produced. The radio made music affordable
for the consumer, because who would say free music is expensive to listen to. It was also portable as
long as a person had a source of electric power, and it was repeatable because the stations got to
choose what they believed the best songs were. Later on there were the cassette tape, then compact
discs (CDs), and technology kept progressed wonderfully. The biggest invention that changed the
way music was listened to even more is in 1990, when Karlheinz Brandenburg invented the Mp3.

  • 2. Essay On Youtube If someone had told me five years ago that I would be a YouTube junkie and Facebook addict, I would have told them they were insane! I mean, YouTube used to be mostly used only by people posting embarrassing family videos, as well as by wannabe singers and musicians, posting their latest accomplishments in the far–fetched hope of being discovered. There was absolutely nothing about it that interested me. Similarly, while originally created as a study tool for college students, Facebook has morphed into the largest and most influential social media tool in the world; but at 12 years old, I did not want to be "friends" with adults – especially my parents! Shortly thereafter, I was required to create a Facebook account for marching band and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time passed, the academic demands and expectations of my curriculum intensified, and, so, too, did my anxiety, . I am not ashamed to admit using YouTube for entirely mindless entertainment, specifically for watching a popular video game blogger named Markiplier. In addition to video game blogging, Markiplier creates "Try Not To Laugh" videos, which are compilations of funny videos intended to make the viewer laugh – while Markiplier tries not to laugh. It is understandable that some, may find this to be a huge waste of time, but the videos have consistently made me laugh, which has been especially useful in relieving stress and tension brought on by my anxiety. The multiple clubs and organizations to which I belong have been a blessing and a curse, because while they have provided untold opportunities for extracurricular growth, they have also been responsible for the elimination of all free time.. I originally began using Facebook as a communication and organizational tool for my extracurricular groups – especially marching band and orchestra. It is an easy and efficient way for staff members and student leaders to post information and updates to members of the group. Facebook also allows me to easily communicate with friends and family, especially those in distant states (such as California) or in other countries (such as our student exchange "sister" in Seville, Spain, and my sister's boyfriend and ... • 3. The Electronic Dance Music Culture "The first time when on the radio I listened to the remixed song Why Don't You?, I was quite of surprised how DJ accessed to musical material from the past. The song affected me with a sense of the past although it was skilfully woven and shaped into a new, very danceable sound of electronic music" described Irina Cvijanović. (Cvijanovic) Electronic dance music, or better known as "edm", has completely changed the music industry. Edm has now taken over radio and the mainstream, and has become one of the main aspects of popular culture. (Tankel) The rise and popularity of edm comes from it's unique and innovative sound that is based heavily on the idea of musical remixing and the blending of genres. Bedroom producers have taken over the music industry by incorporating old songs into brand new unique remixes that are being played and enjoyed all around the world. (Väkevä) This electronic dance music culture has become one of the most popular and profitable events in the United States, and they are only getting bigger and better. An important pioneer and well recognized figure in this industry is Thomas Wesley Pentz or professionally known as "Diplo". Diplo has not only become one of the world's most popular DJ's, but is known worldwide for his hybridization of musical genres. Diplo was one of the first producers to incorporate dancehall and reggaeton into popular music, and with his Top 40 charting tracks Lean on and Where Are U Now, has become a key innovator in popular ... • 4. The Music Of Electronic Dance Music Tracing as far back as the 1940s when sound pioneers began their own movement known as musique concrete, sampling, evolved from simple sound collage. Now it has evolved to the act of taking a portion of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or sound recording in a different song or piece. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples often consist of one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat for another song. The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting popular in hip–hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to receive copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs were experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time and manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and picking up on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock, contemporary R&B, and industrial music. The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of a button, making sampling simpler. Typical sample instruments consist of grand pianos, pipe organs, violins, cellos, wind and percussion instruments. This can include voices and non–traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Electronic Distribution And The Music Industry Millions of Dollars are spent in the music industry everyday. Thousands of songs are being played everyday in different parts of the world whether be on your phone, computer, TV, or radio. Behind every song there is a lot of money, work and a marketing strategy. Strategies that have changed throughout time because of the increasing advances in technology. One of those technologies is the change of songs unto a digital format and online streaming against the classical CD by CD sell and distributions technique. These changes created a huge change in the music market. Are those changes in digital distributions and online streaming truly benefiting the music industry and the Artists? Or is one swindling the other?" This leads us to another issue that affects the music companies and record labels which is the copyright infractions occasioned by the new access to digital material. The illegal practice of copying music and sharing it has caused many problems to the music industry and artist not only for the money aspect on side of the record labels but also to the musicians who spend many hours composing to create a master piece and then these are download for free and re–distributed illegally by web sites and apps such as LimeWire, Ares, BitTorrent, and many others. Alan Greenblatt mentioned in his article "Future of the Music Industry", computer users illegally download more than 2.6 billion copyrighted files (mostly recordings) every month according to the Recording Industry ... • 6. The First Sfx Entertainment Was Formed By Robert F. X History The first SFX Entertainment was formed by Robert F. X. Sillerman in the 1990s. Its business model surrounded the acquisition and consolidation of regional concert promoters into a single national entity. In 2000, Sillerman sold the company to the radio broadcasting company Clear Channel Communications for $4.4 billion USD, which spun off in 2005 to form Live Nation, and merged with Ticketmaster in 2009 to form Live Nation Entertainment. In June 2012, Sillerman publicized his intent to focus on the growing electronic dance music market by reviving the SFX brand to form a new conglomerate in the electronic music industry. Similarly to the past incarnation of SFX, the company 's business model focuses on the consolidation and acquisition of independent EDM promoters, along with an additional focus on providing digital platforms for fans to connect. Sillerman expected to spend close to $1 billion on acquisitions within the first year of operations alone. In June 2013, SFX announced an IPO and began trading on the NASDAQ. Following its IPO, SFX also acquired companies more digital properties and promoters, but the stock price kept going down due to the lack of income. On February, 2015, Sillerman announced a proposal to buy out SFX 's public stock at $4.75 per–share to take the company private, and support exploring a potential sale. By August 2015, the value of SFX stock had decreased considerably, going as low as 91 cents per–share. On August 14, 2015, the company ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Electronic And Electronically- Altered Music For this journal I found a playlist on the new sounds website, called Electronic and Electronically– Altered Music. This was program number 3797 and it first aired on November 12, 2015. The artists in this program all focused on creating intricate phrasing while using electronic sounds. The first song I listened to was called Labyrinth VII by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. This song was written on the Buchla Music Easel synthesizer. I have never heard of this instrument before and had to do some research to find out exactly what it does. This instrument is a type of digital music system that you can create different sounds from other types of electronic instruments and put them together. On this system you can also change the pitch, vibrato, tempo, and notation of the sounds. This specific synthesizer was created in 1963 by Don Buchla. The piece started with a section of a scale that repeated for a couple of measures. The sound had the same timbre of a xylophone. As the opening continued one note from the scale was taken out each time it repeated. Creating rests within the phrasing and allowed the under tone noises to be heard of another phrase. It was clear that this piece of music was in a 4/4. Right away, I was thinking about how the musicians know what sound good, and how they know what will work when they are playing this instrument. • 9. Technology In Electronic Music In The 20th And 21st Century Discuss the development of musical form and its relation to technology in electronic music in the 20th and 21st centuries. Music has evolved a lot since when it was only orchestral and vocal, but in the past 100 odd years music has really moved on. It has particularly been shaped by technology as it grew more and more advanced. The most recent years of music have made a turn for, what some people would say, the worse, but most people don't care about the reasons which I will mention below and can still appreciate the music. This essay is going to cover what technology has done to music and how it has created more freedom for most people when making music. "Evidence of Egyptian musical instruments dates to the Predynastic period"[1], which is the late stone age, made and presumably played by prehistoric people. They're most commonly discovered in the Swabian Alb region of Germany. These are known as the earliest musical instruments which proves there was prehistoric music, however nobody alive knows what it sounds like because it was never possible to record sound back then. In prehistoric Egypt they invented whistles made out of shells. Clappers were also found by archeologists. A clapper is a basic form of a percussion instrument. It consists of two long solid pieces that are clapped together producing sound. Evidence of lyres and lutes and metal cymbals were found. In Ancient Greece many other instruments were invented and we have evidence of this. Over a huge amount ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Apple has enough money to buy or build any company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company "could build about anything that you could dream of," adding that acquiring Beats would give them a "head start" and add "kindred spirits" to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience that both Dr. Dre, a well–known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip– hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high–end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service. The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads –– which iTunes dominates –– dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of Pandora and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (CBS News/AP, 2014). The Origins and Developments of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and Contemporary Nightlife Musical Culture The origins and developments of Electronic Dance Music initially started with the development of the synthesizer. It was with these first uses of synthesized sounds that prompted the development of sequencers, sampling, effects processing, musical instrument digital interface (MIDI), use of computer technology, hard disk recording systems and modern day virtual studio technology (VST's). These all fundamentally build the genre of electronic music, as we know it today. The development of this new technology brought many new genres to music, mostly popular, Electronic Dance Music being one of these. The Moog Synthesizer was the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time, British inventor, Peter Zinovieff and American Composer, Raymond Scott were both looking into basic electronic sequencing, however it was Buchla that had the initial breakthrough. Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant that artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for sequencing. Buchla said," you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for each interval. So that required, of course, a voltage–controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a bunch of other ideas" (Pinch, 2004, p.40). It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to look at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic instrument, and instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed duophony possible on synthesizers. The APR odyssey mk I was released in 1972, and was an aesthetically pleasing duophonic synthesizer, making it easy for a performer to tweak the parameters of the synthesized sound with sliders. By the mid 1970's, well–known companies like Sequential Circuits and Yamaha had developed more advanced keyboard matrices, allowing polyphony to be introduced to the electronic music scene. One ... • 12. Epicureanism Reflection After class discussions, have you had any realizations or made any changes in regard to the philosophies that influences your decisions, actions, or preferences? Has your level of conscious choice to these philosophies changed? Why or why not? Answer: Before Humanities 210, my processes for decision–making and preference development were based on more mental pleasure than physical pleasure. Happiness was the ideal feeling and I would try to feel happy as long as possible. Having wonderful relationships with family and friends, making wise decisions, and thinking of ways to improve life were the most important goals to achieve happiness. However, when moments of extreme happiness emerged, great sadness followed. Although it was unclear at the time, I was following the concepts of Epicureanism. Richard Paul Janaro and Thelma C. Altshuler, authors of The Art of Being Human: The Humanities as a Technique for Living, say that Epicureanism believes "complete happiness is a moderate amount of pleasure with freedom from pain" (338). Thus, I realized moderation of pleasure regulates feelings of sadness. My belief in Epicureanism developed as I recalled periods of suffering and realized I became happy as the suffering subsided. Regarding religion, my parents and grandmother practice Buddhism, but they never forced it on me and my sisters so the religion is not as familiar. Many children's choir instructors will incorrectly assume that it takes too long to teach a child how to read music. The reality is that by teaching these basics first it will allow the choir to sing much more effectively in the future. Step 1: Begin by teaching the children how to read rhythm aurally. • 15. Electronic Music And Its Effect On Human Behavior Human Elements There is an increasing mutual exchange as the synthetic and the human–made equally invades what we once thought of as natural. In electronic music, the human element that people input in their work is crucial to say the least. People provide the unpredictable pieces in their work to make it stand out from the rest. Most robotic or technologic generated music often is in the form of a pattern. Without human interface, electronic music, for the most part, is predictable. When electronic music is played without the human element, a sense of something that is missing usually occurs. Today, technological advances allow electronics to replace most of the human interactions. Now technology can mimic the sounds of non–electronic instruments. Instruments such as the flute, violin, and guitar are just some of these mimicked sounds that could be replaced. In this "genre" the human body is often held as a relatable tool. The audience notices the human element and realizes that they can create such works as well. Electronic music to some may feel that it is missing the human component in the normalized concept of seeing the artist. However, when developing the art itself, electronic music, whether it be in live performances, editing the material, or commercializing the music for use, the human element is still very prominent. The human component is implicated in music directly or indirectly. The idea of any "live music" is hard to define, but there stubbornly remains much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His telharmonium was created with an assembly of rotary generators and telephone receivers to convert electronic signals to into sound (Lejaren Hiller). He developed his invention from 1895 and continued to work on it even though there were no ways for the sounds being created from the electrical signals to be heard. Speakers or amplifiers were non–existent for some time even after the development of Cahill's invention, and "his instrument was the ancestor of present–day electronic music synthesizers" (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). Furthermore, Cahill's invention spurred the development of other electric instruments such as the electronic organ. In the 1920s, more electronic instruments were invented, some of which being monophonic meaning that only one note could be played at a time (Lejaren Hiller, Electronic Music). One of the more common monophonic electric instruments was the theremin invented by Russian scientist Leon Theremin (Britannica, Theremin Musical Instrument). The theremin produces sine waves and is a" box with radio tubes producing oscillation at two sound wave frequencies above the range of hearing; together they produce a lower audible frequency equal to the difference in their rates of vibration (Britannica, Theremin Musical Instrument)". EDM focuses on the use of rhythm, an upbeat sound, and bass to enable the listener to "feel" the music and have their body move to the beat. Slowly the music builds up and then it drops, leaving the crowd reacting wildly to the change in beat and pace. Many people view EDM as just being sound .The "club culture" or "subculture" of rave culture may influence how people act in society and the values they carry, the people who do attend rave culture share common traits. Professor Roman Horak from the University of Vienna comments on the similarities amongst raves. Many of these people dress similarly, listen to the same music, visit similar places (shops, locations, etc.), and even buy the same products all because they take part in this specific "club culture" (Horak, 262). A raver from India and a raver from the United States may be drastically different in how they grew up and the media they consume, but they share common traits that are found with all ravers: the desire to be free and able to express who they are. At its core, this music promotes freedom. Professor Horak views music as "an omnipresent aesthetic phenomenon and an instrument for social and cultural exclusion and inclusion" (Horak, 265). Fast forward to the 60s when the rise of psychedelic rock bands such as The Grateful Dead, The Doors, The Beatles and Pink Floyd attempted to replicate the effects of LSD within their music. The fact that ecstasy is considered safe, along with its relaxing effects, is a big factor in as to why EDM fans use it. However it can be extremely dangerous in a rave scenario with plenty of vigorous activity going on. Many single mindedly think of the experience they could have using ecstasy rather than the threat it possess to one's health. But, since music has been given rules and explored as an art form, it has been innovated and changed in ways that changed it forever. The invention and of electricity and machines changed the way that music was approached, as much as exploring what a chord is. Electricity also brought about a new, interesting genre of music; electronic music, which is any type of music that is produced by a machine. The intonarumori made sound by vibrating a stretched diaphragm, and the variation of that speed was what made the tone and pitch of the sound change. Russolo created several compositions for his instruments, which were received critically by the public. Although the ideals of Russolo were very influential, neither his musical scores nor his intonarumori survived, which means the assumption can be made that neither were of great interest to the musical world (Morgan 116–117). Although Futurism did have a lasting impact in the world, as detailed in an article about Russolo and his instruments, "[y]et Futurism stands in the history of twentieth–century music as the first clear manifestation of a major and enduring concern: the relationship between new music and modern technology. Although the Futurists apparently had no direct influence on subsequent compositional developments, their wish 'to conquer the infinite variety of noise–sound' has remained a reoccurring interest throughout the century" (Morgan 117). Herbert Eimert stated in his classification of notes, "the pure tone (sine–wave tone), free of overtones, which never appears in traditional music (or nature). It issues from the electronic production of sound. The sinusoidal tone system must therefore simply be a system of virtual relationship, from which a composer can create structures in the form of series, relationships, rows and other forms of organization" (P.122 Karl H. Worner, 1973). Stockhausen's first electronic compositions, Studie 1 (1953) being the first piece to be composed primarily with sinusoidal waves, utilizing an sine–wave generator he was able to construct complex timbres in mathematical series (the influence of integral serialism can be seen most here). This early experiment of what we now know as, additive synthesis was extremely influential to electronic and synthesized music. Studie 2 (1954) was very similar but the spectra of pure tones were radiated into a resonance chamber and re–recorded. The original sine waves were distorted to generate a similarity to noise occurrences. The piece Gesang der junglinge (1955) was the first piece to combine music concrete with electronic music. Stockhausen practised in this what we now would consider, subtractive synthesis. With the use of noise generators a full frequency spectrum can be achieved, for example white noise. It took a world war to produce what was almost the right instrument – the wire recorder – which was later replaced by the tape recorder, so manipulated, made permanent, or discarded, with incredible ease and at negligible cost. Once the tape recorder was perfected (about 1950), and its potentialities fully realized, other electronic sound equipment (either already existing or suitably modified) could be assembled to form the first electronic music studio" (99, Brindle).
