1 Overview
The RRU5508 is an outdoor remote radio unit that is powered by a power cabinet. It is the RF
part of a distributed base station and can be installed near the antenna. The RRU5508
performs modulation, demodulation, data processing, and combination and division of
baseband signals and RF signals.
With the software-defined radio (SDR) technology, the RRU5508 can work in multiple modes
through software configuration.
The RRU5508 adopts a 2T4R design.

 The GSM receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 51.021, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 13 kbit/s and the bit error rate (BER) is lower than
or equal to 2%.
 The UMTS receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 25.104, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 12.2 kbit/s and the BER is lower than or equal to
0.1%.
 The LTE FDD receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 5 MHz
bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
 The LTE NB-IoT receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 200
KHz bandwidth and a 15 KHz subcarrier spacing based on the FRC A14-1 in Annex A.14 (π/2
BPSK, R = 1/3, 1 RB) standard.
2.4 Typical Output Power
 The "Output Power per Carrier" in the output power tables indicates the maximum output power
supported by the network performance. The actually configured carrier power of GSM/UMTS/LTE
FDD/NB-IoT can be less than or equal to the output power per carrier in the tables.
 (a)
indicates that LTE NB-IoT cells can be deployed only in inband mode.
 The following inband & guardband table describes the total output power of LTE FDD+LTE NB-IoT.
For details about power configurations for LTE FDD and LTE NB-IoT, see the "L+M Configuration
Combination" sheet in NB-IoT Typical Power Configurations (RRU) or NB-IoT Typical Power
Configurations (RFU).
 When two LTE FDD carriers are configured, it is recommended that the power spectrum density
(PSD) of the two carriers be set to the same value. PSD = Carrier output power/Carrier bandwidth
(1.4 MHz and 3 MHz bandwidths are considered as 5 MHz bandwidth in this formula.)
 The output power is 1 dB less than the standard power when an RRU/RFU is located at a height of
3500 m to 4500 m; and is 2 dB less than the standard power when the RRU/RFU is located at a
height of 4500 m to 6000 m.
 For an RRU/RFU working in GSM mode, the maximum output power per TRX is 60 W when the
S1 or S2 configuration is used. If the output power of 60 W is required, the corresponding power
license must be purchased.
 Factors such as the inter-site distance, frequency reuse factor, power control algorithm, and traffic
model affect the gains of dynamic power allocation. In most cases, network plans are designed based
on the power specifications using dynamic power allocation.
 When the power sharing function is used:
 Assume that UEs in a cell are randomly distributed.
RRU5508 Description 2 Technical Specifications
Issue 04 (2019-01-30) Copyright © Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. 8
 Power sharing requires the DTX and power control functions. In GBSS8.1, the dynamic power
sharing feature is mutually exclusive with the GBFD-113201 Concentric Cell, GBFD-114501
Co-BCCH Cell, GBFD-118001 BCCH Dense Frequency Multiplexing, and GBFD-117501
Enhanced Measurement Report (EMR) features. In GBSS9.0 and later versions, the dynamic
power sharing feature can be used together with these features. However, the dynamic power
sharing feature currently cannot be used together with the GBFD-117002 IBCA (Interference
Based Channel Allocation), GBFD-117001 Flex MAIO, GBFD-118701 RAN Sharing, and
GBFD-114001 Extended Cell features in GBSS8.1, GBSS9.0, and later versions.
 On each channel of the RRU5508 (1800 MHz+2100 MHz), a maximum of eight carriers can be
received and a maximum of six carriers can be transmitted.

The actually configured carrier power of GSM/UMTS/LTE FDD/NB-IoT can be less than or equal to the output power per carrier in the tables.  (a) indicates that LTE NB-IoT cells can be deployed only in inband mode.  The following inband & guardband table describes the total output power of LTE FDD+LTE NB-IoT. For details about power configurations for LTE FDD and LTE NB-IoT, see the "L+M Configuration Combination" sheet in NB-IoT Typical Power Configurations (RRU) or NB-IoT Typical Power Configurations (RFU).  When two LTE FDD carriers are configured, it is recommended that the power spectrum density (PSD) of the two carriers be set to the same value. PSD = Carrier output power/Carrier bandwidth (1.4 MHz and 3 MHz bandwidths are considered as 5 MHz bandwidth in this formula.)  The output power is 1 dB less than the standard power when an RRU/RFU is located at a height of 3500 m to 4500 m; and is 2 dB less than the standard power when the RRU/RFU is located at a height of 4500 m to 6000 m.  For an RRU/RFU working in GSM mode, the maximum output power per TRX is 60 W when the S1 or S2 configuration is used. If the output power of 60 W is required, the corresponding power license must be purchased.  Factors such as the inter-site distance, frequency reuse factor, power control algorithm, and traffic model affect the gains of dynamic power allocation. In most cases, network plans are designed based on the power specifications using dynamic power allocation.  When the power sharing function is used:  Assume that UEs in a cell are randomly distributed.
