6. Director’s message… Student achievement is our core business… “I challenge us to think of student achievement as being a reflection of both academic success and personal well being.” Academic success and personal well-being should not be in competition with each other. In fact, they are synergistic and integrated.
8. Role of the Board, schools, students, parents, family and community… The saying, ‘It takes a community to raise a child’, is perhaps even more a necessity that it was years ago. Together we are preparing our children and youth for life in a complex, and changing world community. To do this requires that they feel supported and connected through relationships that are equitable and inclusive. Parent, family and community engagement in the education of children and youth is necessary to support the achievement and well being of each of our students. This is our collective responsibility.

When these relationships are founded in mutual acceptance and inclusion, and modelled by all, a culture of respect becomes the norm.” The Ministry of Education has mandated that each school have a team responsible for developing a positive climate for learning. In York Region, each school has a Positive Climates for Learning and Working Team. These teams will work collaboratively with other school-based teams, students and the community in the creation of safe, caring, equitable, inclusive, and respectful learning and working environments.
10.
