3:25-3:30 Celebrations (All)
3:30-3:50 Professional & Personal Relationships (Camacho)
3:50-4:05 Study Island (Huisinga)
4:05-4:10 PYP Update (Perez & Kuester)
4:10-4:20 PBIS Celebrations (Johnson/PBIS Team)
4:20-5:00 Belief Statement: Discipline Concrete Practices (All)
 The focus on students who misbehave should be to support them in making
better decisions through social-emotional instruction in core classrooms,
PBIS, restorative practices, restitution, and peer mediation; “punishment”
should be a secondary consideration as punishment alone is ineffective in
leading to behavior change
 We learn by doing the work. As a learning organization, we are committed to
developing our practice. Collaboration is essential and no staff member is an
independent contractor working in isolation but instead every staff member
is willing to work in a community of practice where ideas are developed,
challenged, and refined
 Education is a civil right supported through a collective commitment to social
justice andequity
“Miss Atkins…felt it was her duty to punish children in her classroom. The most popular method of
punishment at that time was called ‘ferrule discipline’- a wooden ruler was used to repeatedly beat
the inside of a child’s hand. If the child moved, the discipline would start over. Just about every day I
witnessed children squirming in pain as tears rolled down their cheeks.”
“I remember sitting between Mrs. Blue and my mother as Mrs. Blue bragged about how smart I was.
Her words were like sweet droplets of honey poured down my throat. Encouragement was an
element I didn’t receive enough of in my life.”
-Stanley Tookie Williams/ Blue Rage, Black Redemption
