Introduction
The upsurge in the incidents of violence in schools indicates that all is not well with
the learning environment in schools. When the sociological foundation of the school
is weak, both the teacher behavior and the student behavior deteriorate leading to
inter-personal conflicts. Thus, there is a need to restore the school and classroom
environment conducive to the development of pro-social skills of mutual concern,
cooperation, caring and sharing.
Schools need to become social institutions conducive to learning and, for this, the
learning environment in schools needs to planned, structured and mobilized so that
the schools become an extended larger family of teachers and students both
creating social environment conducive to learning is a complex task and requires
hard work on the part of all school personnel.
ABC of learning Environment
If schools are to brush their learning environment, here is the A-B-C to a better
environment for teachers to learn and create:

Affection-Acceptance
The teachers need to accept children as they are and build affectionate relationships
with them. The children to feel wanted in the school. The school needs to be treated
a web of pro-social relationships among students, among teachers, between
teachers and students; between teachers and school management; between the
school and parents; and between the school and the neighborhood. Furthermore,
every child’s uniqueness needs to be respected and healthy relationships come from
equitable acceptance of diversity.
2. Believe-Buoyancy
Believe in the innate learning potential of human beings and treat children as the
constructors of knowledge. If children are not learning and it is an indication of bad
learning environment or bad pedagogy. If these are improved, learning well happen.
Cheer up children; celebrate their learning accomplishments and encourage them to
keep the learning environment. The children and the school need to treat as co-
partners in the process of learning and continuous improvement.
Compatibility-Compensation
The ability of teachers to be flexible and fit into the learning need to be felt and seen
create opportunities for to know each other well and climb down the level of your
students. Relate learning to their past experiences and present context. The conflicts
and contentions are undertaken to induct children into the school. The affirmative
actions or compensatory activities taken up by teachers can bridge the social and
value gaps between the schools and homes.
Wake-up Call
So, wake up teachers! Learn the A-B-C of learning environment and put your school
a firm sociological foundation to make learning and social behavior happen. The
teacher’s illiterate in the creation of a conducive learning environment breed social
conflicts in schools.
