2. Initial Responses and Idea Generation
Log your initial thoughts regarding the set brief in this document
What stories could you use? How do you feel about the different potential
formats? What are the positives about this project? What could be some difficult
aspects? Etc
Use the format on this document to guide this response – some are set as a
question on one slide, but you should look to add further slides as necessary
3. Which stories have you researched and looked
as potential starting points?
• This house plays host to the spirits of a small group of roman soldiers. According
to the account, those who witness the soldiers are first greeted with a slow
crescendoing chorus of trumpet blasts, before a group of solders led by an officer
in a plumed hat and riding a cart horse, emerge from one of the walls.
• Though one of the walls is all that remains of the original construction,
Treasurer’s House, just north of York’s minster, was first established way back in
the 1090s, for the minster’s first treasurer. It survived mostly untouched until the
reformation, when the position of treasurer to the minster was brought to an
end. In 1897, a wealthy industrialist took it upon himself to restore the house, a
project that was finished in 1900. There’s also a number of ancient roman ruins
uncovered in and around the house.

4. Which stories have you researched and looked
as potential starting points?
• There was much stress and strife in the house, which poltergeists seem to feed on – the more
stress, the more activity. Things started off relatively benignly, with a beer mug moving of its own
accord. Soon, an ornament moved and smashed to the ground while all three women were on a
different floor of the house, they decided they’d be better off spending the night elsewhere.
When they returned and were running errands in the upstairs of the home, they heard crashes
and noises downstairs, only to discover glassware and crockery smashing to the ground. The
police and paranormal experts were called and although the paranormal expert was bruised
during his visit to the home, no source could be found for the activity. The women in the house
were covered in scratches and bruises, and although Linda’s mum was eventually arrested for
throwing some stuff around the house – it seems much of the activity still has no explanation.

5. Which stories have you researched and looked
as potential starting points?
• The Black Monk of Pontefract is a legendary Poltergeist haunting that occurred in the late 1960s
and early 1970s in the home of Joe and Jean Pritchard on 30 East Drive Chequerfield Estate in
England.
• Inexplicable events; green foam appearing from taps and toilet even after the water was turned
off, the tea dispenser being activated resulting in all the dried tea cascading onto the work
surface, lights being turned off and on, plants leaping out of their pots and landing on the stairs,
cupboards shaking violently, photographs being slashed with a sharp knife and an endless list of
levitating and thrown objects.
• Dubbed ‘Mr Nobody’ by the local press in 1968, the family preferred to refer to the poltergeist
simply as ‘Fred’, perhaps as a way of normalising ‘It’
• In fact, many of Fred’s antics were both amazing and often highly amusing, like when he calmly
poured an entire jug of milk he removed from the fridge over a sceptical aunt, leaving the kids in
stitches.

6. Which research into existing products has been the
most useful? Includes examples and explanations
• The research into the existing products that have been the most useful would definitely have to
be a user on Spotify called Dr.Nosleep who tells horror stories which last around 20 minutes
depending on what the story is. I would say these episodes are very useful as this was exactly
what I had thought of when I heard we were going to be doing a horror themed audio piece. So to
hear the project was a horror themed audio I immediately thought of these Spotify stories as they
were perfect to take inspiration from.
7. Which production format [drama, narration,
etc] do you feel fits your idea best and why?
• The production format that I feel best fits my idea would most definitely
have to be an audio narration. The reason for this is because of the fact
that I have listened to many horror audio narrations and feel as if I could
potentially create one myself as I have many ideas that I feel would be very
interesting to explore in the narration area of horror.
8. Which story have you settled on and why?
• I have settled on a story In which a person moves from a large city and into
a more remote area of the country as they have been having troubles with
a stalker, however on arrival to this new home the person learns many new
dark and creepy things about the place they have just moved to and from
hearing this news more strange things start to occur. The reason I settled
on this story was because I felt as if I could create a really scary story using
just my voice and some music I create which would add even more
suspense.
9. If you had to sell your story quickly, what is the
title and the logline?
Title - All Eyes On Me
Logline – A woman escapes the big city to start a new life in a remote part of the
country, however all is not what it seems when she arrives.
10. What ideas have you had for sound effects,
narration and storytelling?
• For my own audio piece I wasn’t actually planning on having any sound effect as I
felt that I just want a narrated piece and then some music playing In the
background. The reason I did not want any sound effects is because of the fact
that I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could create the same level of
suspense with just words rather than adding sound effects to create intensity.
11. Initial feelings…how do you feel about the
project currently?
• I would say that I am excited about doing something that I have never done
before and pushing myself to create a good piece of work that hopefully I
will be happy about by the time it is finished. Another thing I would say I
am excited for when it comes to this project would have to be creating
music to go with my narration as I am a massive fan of music it will be
interesting to see how I can create a horror music track. Some things that I
would say is a worry would be it not turning out how I want it to, not end
up creating the right piece of music that I had planned.
12. What other research do you think you need to
do?
• I don’t really think I need to do any more research on this project apart
from maybe trying out a few experiments to see how the audio quality
would sound as I plan on recording it on my phone.
Editor's Notes
Think about creative and technical elements, it could be you like the idea of evoking a sense of place or you have the perfect person in mind as a narrator? Or are you keen to start writing a story and take it from there? Ideas and development are personal, try and get across where your idea is and what has got you to that point.
Add as many slides as needed from the work you did on Urban Legends, York Ghost stories and other inspirations you have considered. Which story have you gravitated toward and why?

Think about why this idea rather than any other…is it because it has the best scope for sfx, narration, etc. Reasons can be personal, but you need explain them.
A logline is a one sentence description or summary of the audio story. Loglines distill the important elements of your script/story—main character, setup, central conflict, antagonist—into a clear, concise teaser. The goal is to write a logline so enticing that it hooks the listener into your idea

Consider pros and cons here, what are you excited about, what is a worry…
This could be audio recording, post-production, getting cast/narrator, etc…it might be just organising your idea into a workable project…
