3. Definition :-
Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of
solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements
sliding against each other.
OR
Force of friction is the Force which opposes the
motion of an object over a surface.
The force of friction act between the object and
the surface
4. Example:-
1) A ball rolling on ground gradually slows down and comes to rest due to force of
friction between the ball and the ground.
2) If we stop pedaling a bicycle, it gradually slows down and comes to stop due to
friction between the wheel and the road

Friction depends upon two factors. They are :
1) Nature of the surface in Contact (They are smoothness of the Surfaces)
Friction is less on Smooth Surface
