Lijiang Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Spot is a 5A national scenic
spot officially approved by the National Tourism Administration.
Located in the Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, it is the
southernmost snowy mountain in the northern hemisphere. It is 35
kilometers long from north to south, 13 kilometers wide from east to
west, and covers an area of 960 square kilometers. The main peak fan
is 5596 meters above sea level. The scenery of the alpine snowy area
is more than 4,000 meters above sea level. It has a dangerous,
strange, beautiful and beautiful scenery.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is called “Oulu” in Naxi, meaning silvery
mountain rock. Its silver-packed, 13 snow peaks are endless, just like
a “dragon” flying over the clouds, it is called “Jade Dragon.”
Historical evolution
In 1988, Yulong Snow Mountain and Lijiang Ancient City, Tiger
Leaping Gorge and Ninglang Lake formed the Yunnan Lijiang Yulong
Snow Mountain Scenic Spot, which was approved by the State Council
to be included in the second batch of national-level scenic spots.
On May 8, 2007, the Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Spot in Lijiang
City was officially approved by the National Tourism Administration
as a national 5A-level tourist attraction.
On August 27, 2009, the Ministry of Land and Resources issued a
document agreeing to grant the qualification of the National Geopark
of Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Spot in Jiangcheng.

3. Geographical environment
Location horizon
Yulong Snow Mountain is located in the Yulong Naxi Autonomous
County between 100°4′2′′～100°16′30′′ east longitude and 27°3′2′′～
27°18′57′′ north latitude. It is the southernmost snowy mountain in
the northern hemisphere, north and south. It is 35 kilometers long, 13
kilometers wide from east to west, and covers an area of 960 square
kilometers. The scenery of the alpine snowy area is 4,000 meters
above sea level, and the scenic area is 415 square kilometers.

4. Topography
The Yulong Snow Mountain is a fault-folded mountain formed by a
large uplift in the Quaternary. The mountain is mainly composed of
carbonate basins of the Devonian and Carboniferous, with a thickness
of more than 3,000 meters, and some have been metamorphosed into
marble. The main peak fan is composed of the Carboniferous jade
dragon limestone. In the south of the mountain, there are
Carboniferous, Permian basalt and limestone interbeds. There are
Baishuihe and Heishuihe wonders in the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
One riverbed of these two rivers develops in the limestone layer and
the other develops in the basalt. The former river bottom is all white
gravel, the water quality is clear; the latter is just the opposite, the
stone gravel is black and yellow. The two rivers are white and black,
forming a special landscape.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is also the most remote mountain with
maritime glaciers in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The climate snow line
is about 5,000 meters above sea level, and the topographic snow line
is about 4000~4500 meters. The main peak fan is steeply developed
with hanging glaciers. There are ice bucket glaciers at an altitude of
4500 to 5000 meters above sea level. There are 19 glaciers in total,
with a total area of 11.61 square kilometers. Among them, “White
Water No. 1” is the most visited glaciers. In addition, Jade Dragon
Snow Mountain has many ancient glacial relics, including the dry
river dam below the main peak fan. The bottom of the dry dam is
3,300 meters above sea level. The valley mouth is facing southwest
and the valley is 300 meters wide. The relative height difference
between the limestone steep walls on both sides is more than 1000
meters, and the valley slope is 65~70 degrees. It is a typical alpine-
style large glacial valley.

5. Climate characteristics
Yulong Snow Mountain, the annual average temperature is 11.3 ° C,
the coldest month average temperature of 3.0 ° C, the hottest month
average temperature of 17 ° C. The annual rainfall of Lijiang Yulong
Snow Mountain is about 1000-1200 mm, and the rainfall is mainly
concentrated in June-October. The rainfall from June to October
accounts for 80% of the total rainfall; from November to April, there
is very little rainfall.

Plant resources
From the bottom to the top, Yulong Snow Mountain is distributed

more than 20 species of lichens in 17 families, bryophytes have 45

composed of yellow-backed and long-eared alpine ridges; the altitude
is 3200~4200 meters, which is a dark coniferous forest belt in the
mountains. The climate here is cool and humid, and the main
vegetation is alpine pine forest, Lijiang spruce forest and long fir
forest. The altitudes of 3700~4300 meters and the altitudes of
4300~5000 meters are the azalea shrub meadow belt and the sparse
vegetation belt of the alpine flowing rock beach, respectively, which
is permafrost. This has spawned thousands of plants, including 20
national protected plants.
Main Attractions
Steep fan
The fan steep peak is located 15 kilometers north of Lijiang City,
Yunnan Province, at an altitude of 5,596 meters. The Yulong Snow
Mountain Range belongs to it. It is the highest peak in the northern
hemisphere and the highest altitude in the world. It is located in the
northwest of Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China. It is a north-south

9. Impression Lijiang
Impression Lijiang Theater is located at the altitude of 3,100 meters
above sea level in the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, with the
Xiongfeng of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as the natural
background. The actors are composed of 500 farmers from 10 ethnic
groups. Impression Lijiang is an original daytime live performance
program directed by directors Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan

Yunshanping
Yunshanping, also known as “the third country of lyrics”, is an alpine
meadow with a steep mountainside of the main peak of the Yulong

elevation of 3,240 meters. The language is called “You Wu Ge” or

Glacier Park
The glaciers of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain belong to the
temperate oceanic glaciers. Due to the influence of the maritime
monsoon, they have the characteristics of large cumulative ablation,
high ice temperature, obvious bottom sliding, fast movement and
sensitivity to climate change. There are 19 modern glaciers in the
Yulong Snow Mountain. The largest glacier, the Baishui No. 1 Glacier
(the Glacier Park), is located just below the main peak of the fan and
has a total length of 2.9 kilometers. The end of the glacier is a variety
of ice towers, because the sun reflects the blue-green color, known as
the “green snow peak.” The Glacier Park is 4,680 meters above sea
level and has a cableway leading to the Glacier Park.

11. Blue Moon Valley
The Lanyue Valley Scenic Spot is the former “Whitewater River”
scenic spot, located in the valley north of the Ganhaizi in the east of
the Yulong Snow Mountain and on the south side of the Yunshanping.
After the melting of the snow-capped glaciers, the ice and snow
flowed down the cliffs, and they gradually merged into mountains
and streams. Finally, in the deep valleys of the upper reaches of the
Blue Moon Valley, a river with crystal clear and sweetness was
formed. The riverbed was composed of white limestone. The whole
river has a white luster and is exceptionally pure, hence the name
“Whitewater River”. The reason why it is called “Blue Moon Valley” is
because the color of the water is blue on a sunny day, and the valley

12. Maoniuping
Located in the north end of Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Spot, Li
Niuping is an important part of Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Area. It
starts from Liming Highway in the east, Heishui River in the south,
Yulong Snow Mountain in the west, and the upper part of Snowflake
Village in the north. It covers an area of 16.6 square kilometers.
Living in the Yi and Tibetan villages. The villagers make a living from
animal husbandry, the folk customs are complemented, and the
