• To understand academic writing and what is not.
• To connect how academic/critical reading is connected to writing

3. Academic writing
• A genre that is used for writing research, at college or university
• Has a specific convention, audience, and style.
• Narrower audience compared to journalistic or fiction writing
• Evidence-based
• Argument as the bases of writing NOT writer’s opinion
• Not subjective but verifiable evidence

4. Academic writing
• Formalized prose style
• Specialized disciplinary language
• Citation, reference and acknowledgment to earlier work
• Publication: peer-reviewed journals, mongraphs, edited volumes, and
handbooks.
