In early period people lived in caves.
After agricultural revolution they started cultivation.
As a result they settled nearby of his agricultural fields.
5. Settlements are those places where human
beings live permanently.
They can be divided as:
Rural settlement
Compact settlement
Dispersed settlement
Urban settlement
6. Majority of the population depend directly or indirectly on
agriculture for livelihood.
They build settlements making use of locally available raw
materials.
Hamlet, Village etc. are some type of rural settlements.
7. Compact settlements are seen very close together.
They formed on the bank of rivers or on fertile plains.
Common worship and social law are the peculiarities.
8. In place where physiographic features are not favourable
for people, they find out suitable places and build scattered
settlement.

• Majority engaged in non – agricultural activities.
• Commerce, industry and various sectors are the
peculiarities.

earning sectors.
They are engaged in agriculture, fishing, mining,

formed.
