4. Smart meter asset management
through the use of data
Workshop Leader:
John Cowburn, Owner/Director,
Smart Energy Networks
HALF-DAY POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP
Wednesday 22nd June 2016
08.30 – 12.30
Holiday Inn Kensington Forum, London, UK
Overview of workshop:
Smart Meters are provided with a communications
channel that will assist asset owners with their
management of them. The smart meter is far more
complex than previous generations; the physical
asset has become a platform on which to run
firmware applications. How will this be controlled
by the asset owner? Should the asset owner be
concerned? The data from the meters can be used
to monitor asset life – will the owner have access to
that data and if so – how?
Why should you attend this workshop?
• The need to monitor assets under the MID
is a legal requirement
• Data from smart meters can assist in asset
management
• Asset owners should be aware of what data
is available and how they can use it
• Control of metering firmware may be of concern
Programme:
08.30 Opening remarks
09.00 Session 1 – What are the legal
obligations under MID?
09.10 Session 2 – What data is available
to assist in in-service testing?
09.50 Coffee break
10.30 Session 3 – Data ownership:
Who has access to what?
11.00 Session 4 – Control of smart meter
configuration and firmware
11.40 Closing remarks
12.30 End of workshop
About the workshop leader:
John Cowburn is Chairman of the British Standards
group responsible for metering and convenor of
IEC TC13 WG15 – international standards for smart
metering functions & processes. He was employed
by Siemens, Landis + Gyr, Secure Meters and Bglobal
