4. Vibe magazine is a magazine which mainly
covers rap, hip hop and R&B genres of music.
The target audience is likely to be more of a
teenage audience but could appeal to people
in their 20’s. 15-25 would be the most likely
target audience, they are the the type of
people who listen to rap, hip hop and R&B.
The total circulation of Vibe in 2011 was
301,408. The magazine is distributed every
other month. It includes things such as stories
about music artists connected with those
genres of music and has lot’s of lists/top 50’s
about things related to those genres.
5. Masthead & Selling Line
The masthead says “VIBE” in large capital
letters to help it stand out. The colours used
in the masthead are usually different on other
magazines but here we can see it’s a mix of
dark and light colours but the kind of colours
which appeal more to the target audience.
There is no selling line used for Vibe
magazine, perhaps there used to be a selling
line which was removed but I’m unsure, on
most Vibe magazines there is no selling line.
6. Main Image
The main image of the magazine is a picture
of Eminem. Eminem is one of the most
influential people in rap music and is one of
the most successful, using him as the front
cover will attract people to buying the
magazine because he is so popular
particularly with the target audience. It is a
large picture of him to stand out and catch
people’s eye and his name is even written
next to him in large letters to help it stand out.
It is probably one of the best selling points of
the front cover.
7. Cover Lines & Main Sells
The main coverline is talking about Eminem,
accompanied by a large picture of Eminem
to help catch the eye. People may buy it for
the Eminem story alone because of how
large his fan base is. The other coverlines
on the left hand side talk about “50 hottest
rap blogs” which may cause people to be
intrigued by it and want to read it. On the
right hand side, they list some big names in
rap such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West and
Jay-Z which can also be a selling point
because they also have large fan bases and
will help sell the magazine because of the
names alone. Also there is a coverline at
the bottom which says “Who is the best
rapper ever?” which may intrigue people
again and make them want to read it.
