2. The masthead is central and spreads across the top of the magazine. It
uses a sans serif fading red to black front and is the only font like that on
the cover because it has to be unique. Part of the masthead is covered
by the image of Eminem. This is because it is a well known magazine
brand so the audience should already know what the magazine is called.
The image of Eminem is celebrity endorsement and helps promote the
magazine because he is so well known which will increase sales of the
magazine because his fans will more than likely be attracted to this
magazine and buy it .
The main cover line is linked to the main image because it denotes the
famous rappers name “Eminem”. It is written in a capital letter font like
the rest of the writing on the cover which gives it uniform.
The colour scheme if the cover is red black and grey which is simple and
doesn’t confuse the eyes of the audience.
The way that Eminem is stood represents his attitude and reflects the
stereotypes of a rap artist being quite serious and intimidating. The
eyelevel shot helps with this feeling of intimidation because he is
looking straight at the audience. He is also wearing black which ties in
with the colours scheme. He is also stood in a studio for the mid shot
which means that the lighting can be controlled and this makes it easier
to direct the focus on the star on the image because the light can be
adapted to highlight them and draw focus to them.
The positioning statement is above the masthead and asks a
(rhetorical) question which entices the audience to want to know
more.
the cover lines are all rap artist related because it is a rap
magazine.
3. The masthead here is aligned left because it can’t stretch across
the whole top of the magazine with it being only 1 letter.
Because it is only one letter, it is on a background which overlaps
the main image. This is so its legible and the audience aren’t left
to guess the name of the magazine. The white font is backed on
red so it stands out and is one of the first things to be read.
The main image is of Liam Gallagher who is the most
recognisable member of the band Oasis. He is captured in a
medium close up with the rest of the band members reflected in
his sunglasses. He is front man because the audience are most
likely to see him and know who he is and want to buy the
magazine. He is not smiling which conveys attitude and rebellion
which he is known for.
The Main cover line highlights Liam's name in red and reads
“beady eye kick off” in smaller font of a different colour
underneath because the most important part of it is his name to
entice the audience.
He colour scheme is red white and black but also includes a
couple of cover lines in a gold colour which links to what Liam is
wearing. This ties the image more to the magazine cover because
there's a link.
The barcode is in the bottom right corner so it doesn’t distract
the audience from the rest of the magazine.
The cover lines are written in roughly 3-4 different fonts so it
does look slightly confusing but they do frame Liam's face so we
see him clearly.
4. This is a pop magazine and the masthead is in a contrasting colour-
white- which stands out on the blue background. This is so the
audience can read it clearly. The masthead is quite largely covered
by Justin Biebers head.
The main image is of Justin Bieber, who is a very famous pop artist.
This will not only direct the attention of billboard magazine fans,
but Justin Bieber fans, which will boost the sales dramatically. The
photo was taken in a studio which meant the background colour
could be manipulated to suit the colour scheme and allow the
cover lines to be read on top of it. Justin is conveying attitude
through his body positioning, the way he is holding is very
expensive neck chain and not smiling.
Because he is so well-known, Bieber’s name is partially covered by
a quote by him. His name (the main cover line) is in the same
colour as the masthead, which highlights his high status.
The colour scheme is bright and fun- through the use of yellow,
blue and red- which reflects the pop genre.
The main image is a mid shot and his face is the focus . He is
looking straight into the camera, which makes the audience feel a
sense of relatability because he is looking at them essentially. With
this being said, he is still of higher status and this is shown through
his body positioning. His is bending down to look into the camera
and it almost looks like he's looking down on the audience as if
they’re on a lower level to him.
The cover lines are all pop artist related because of the genre of
music the magazine is and the less important parts are written in
smaller font so the audience isn’t bored from the first impressions.
5. Because the audience for this type of magazine is
expected to be quite young, they need directing and
they’re easily directed also. The contents title would be
too boring if it was just “contents” so instead they’re
faced with an opinion which they’ll most likely follow-
“We love this” this directs their attention to the most
important articles which will keep their attention fixed
and help them to not become distracted or bored.
The articles are organised simply by being boxed and
listed. The more important articles are listed along the
side and have a brief description next to them along with
a large picture, which keeps the page interesting to the
eye. There are 4 columns on this page which helps keep
the organisation but allows for lots of images.
The main image is of one direction and they’re all looking
at the camera, smiling which keeps the mood of the
magazine happy and slightly informal.
The colour scheme is blue yellow, black and white. Its
very organised but fun.
The page is prominently images which is typical of a
music magazine because it keeps the attention of the
audience.
6. The issue of the magazine is made clear at the
top of the page and the colour scheme from the
front is reiterated with the strip of red and white
font.
The regulars are listed under categories along
the right side of the page with a brief description
of each article.
The images are yet again, the most prominent
part of the page with no particular order
regarding page numbers. However, they are
organised into 2 columns.
The page numbers are on a contrasting colour
background so u can read them easily.
The page number is at the bottom along with
the date and magazine name.
A picture of the front cover is on this page also.
7. This is a VIBE magazine contents page. It
uses a simple colour scheme of white and
red.
The letter V is visible in the background to
reiterate the name of the magazine. The
name of the magazine is also in the top
corner for reference.
The colour scheme is quite sophisticated
yet simple which I think works well with
the type of music that it is promoting
because the rap artist here looks very rich
and the colour scheme doesn’t distract you
from that, infact it compliments it.
The image takes up the whole page and
the title is in a contrasting colour to the
background so it is easy to read.
The articles on this page frame the image
and stay aligned left.
