• She got started through aerobics. She was doing
aerobics for 17 years and had to do workshops to stay
certified as a personal trainer. Zumba was one of the
workshops she took and she loved it.
• Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness
program created by dancer and
choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez in
Colombia during the 1990s.
• She is certified though AFAA (Aerobic Fitness
Association of America)
4. Successes and Challenges
• One of the more successful parts of her business is the
parties that she runs. The parties incorporate all five of
the places she works for one great party. Five different
groups of people all in one great party.
• Making the choreography is probably the most
challenging aspect of this business.
• It is all numbers. You need people to attend your
classes. You need to keep the numbers up to keep
revenue coming
• The downfall is that it can end at any time. You need to
keep people motivated enough to keep them coming
back. Word of mouth is huge. She doesn’t advertise at
all
5. The Future
• When asked how long she intends on running her
business, she replied, “As long as my creeky bones
allow me to”. Her future plan is to rent out another
facility close to the gyms she works at currently so she
can grow her profit.

A. She has a Thanksgiving shake-n-bake class.
Q. What is a shake-n-bake?
A. A cardio workout that is party based, and has a lot of
different groups of people to come and do zumba on
thanksgiving day before the cooking begins.

A. She is certified through ZIN for zumba, Les Mills for
body pump, she is CPR certified, and certified through
AFAA
7. Summary
• Her advice is to try and live healthy. The eating
habits of kids today are not good and the obesity
rate is much higher now than it ever has before.
She suggests that you stay on a fitness activity
and eat well. You will get much more out of life
this way.
• I learned that my mother’s business is actually a
very productive business and I also learned that
life is a lot more enjoyable when you love what
you do for a living.
