Liquorice has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and can help heal tissues inside and outside the body similar to corticosteroids but without side effects. It can be used to treat sore throats, ulcers, wounds, joint pain, coughs, constipation, acidity, eye disorders, anaemia and more. Liquorice also improves sperm count and health of the reproductive system in males. As an antioxidant, it protects against cholesterol build up and delays lipid oxidation. It provides relief from stomach pains and irritations, and can help treat ulcers and digestive issues like IBS. Liquorice is also an emollient useful for respiratory conditions like coughs and asthma.

2. Liquorice is a very potent Anti
inflammatory agent heal irritated
tissue inside or outside the body. The
action is like a steroid - cortisone. With
these steroid-like actions with out any
immuno-suppressing side effects of
chemical steroids. People who need
the steroid may often use liquorice to
help in their bodies off the drugs.
Dose: children 2 g Adults 4 g twice/day

3. In hoarseness of voice, sore throat
feeble voice, chewing the sticks of
Yashtimadhu gives relief by soothing
the inflammation 3 times / day 5 days.
Powder of liquorice, curry leaves
and turmeric mixed with honey,
ghee tied over ulcers, wounds, scalds
cleanses them and facilitates easy
healing for 7 days.

4. Mixture of 5 g red sandal wood powder
liquorice powder has to be taken daily
with milk for epistaxis (nose bleed) other
bleeding disorders, for debility 3 times a
day for 7 days.
Varachurnam is liquorice and Triphala
churnam mixed together. Mix with honey
ghee consume regularly. Beneficial in
disorders of the eye (it increases vision)
also in acidity, peptic ulcer for 6 weeks.

5. Equal quantity of powdered liquorice,
giloy, dry ginger + katukarohini
mixed with honey take in arthritis for 4
months give very good results.
Lubricating the throat with a decoction
of liquorice mixed with honey brings
relief in dry cough in 3-5 days
Liquorice powder 3 gm + 5 gm jaggery
200 ml warm water for 40 days early
morning relieves constipation.

6. Liquorice is used in the treatment of
myopia (short sight) half a tsp. powder of
the root mixed with honey and ghee in
unequal amount can be given twice
daily with milk on empty stomach for 4-
6 months.
Taking an infusion of the roots soaked
overnight relieves any chronic joint
problems by alleviating muscular pains
for 4-6 weeks.

7. Tiny bits of liquorice stick with sugar
candy can be sucked to get relief in
oral inflammations or the infusion
can be used as a gargle daily 3 times
for 3 days.
A paste of liquorice sticks mixed with
sesame or mustard oil, if rubbed into
a newly appearing corn at bedtime,
softens the skin decreases in size for 4
weeks.

8. Mix a tsp. each of liquorice, sugar in
water drink from time to time to get
relieved of flatulence.
Make a decoction with a tsp. of liquorice
powder drink twice a day with some
honey in case of anaemia for 3 months.
1 tsp. liquorice powder with milk, sugar
twice / day by lactating mothers to
increase production of milk for 6 weeks.

9. Powder liquorice sticks, pepper, ginger
fill the teeth cavities with this. It can also
be used as a tooth powder.
Boil ½ tsp. of liquorice in milk add
sugar; make the child to drink this twice
a day for 4-6 months to improve overall
development + Immunity.
Take a tsp. of liquorice powder with the
juice of ash pumpkin for 3 days
consecutively in case of epilepsy/ fits.

Effects on Reproduction: Male reproductive
system consists of 8 related organs, viz. testes,
epididymides, deferent ducts, seminal vesicles,

root (Yastimadhu) is one of the best herbal

emollient hence used in cough,
asthma, hoarseness of voice. As
lozenges gives soothing effect on
throat, pharynx. Is a demulcent,
emollient, expectorant useful in
cough, chest afflictions. To treat
coughs, laryngitis, sore throat,
