This document summarizes a research paper that developed a wheelchair control system using hand gestures recognized by MEMS accelerometers. The system is intended to help quadriplegics navigate wheelchairs without assistance. MEMS accelerometers are attached to the fingers and back of the hand to detect gestures. The sensor values are sent to a microcontroller which controls the wheelchair's movement in different directions depending on the detected gesture. The aim is to allow disabled people to control wheelchair movement through intuitive hand gestures.
